That DCC BN is a beauty! Love the sounds, and the DCC wiring was cool to watch as well! I already can't wait for the next episode. Glad the episodes have been a bit longer now.
Wow, I been trying to find a very basic to the point yet so informative video on how to connect DCC. You sir are a genius and I appreciate someone like you making it very easy to understand and not bore you with so much additional info that’s not necessary. Cheers 🍻
This really helped my understanding of DCC. I have found it quite daunting.. seeing you use the tap splice seems to make the whole process much easier!
That GP40 sounded amazing. I've bought material to start modeling a HO rebuilt Super 7 23B and a battery electric locoomotive rebuilt from a retired B40-8. One section of my future layout will have a 3% grade that will serve a cement industry and if I have enough room another customer. Their should be, it's nearly 15 ft long. Thanks again for sharing this with us fellow modelers.
This has been the episode I’ve enjoyed the most as I recently also bought an NCE unit. And by the way, this is my favourite American model railroad channel, just much more chill and relaxed the way you present your videos, great enjoy them!
So glad you went with NCE, but you DO use the coiled cord. That goes from the front fascia jack to the handheld remote. The straight wire with jacks is for hooking up other NCE components. Boosters, more jacks, etc. have fun man
Nice video mate. I must say that BN GP40 is a beauty. And welcome to the world of DCC you will soon discover that you will have a lot more operational protentional with DCC so you can have a train running on the main line and another loco switching in the yard and they wont interfere with each other. Look forward to the next one. - Nicholas.
Good video. I use the Weller 7200 solder gun version. Its not as powerful, but the option of a trigger helps while soldering when not in use. I've learned that with NCE PowerCab, there is no "off" switch. I installed a rocker type into the power supply cord. That way, I don't have to keep unplugging the cable to turn it off. Over time, the cord's plastic head connection wears down and breaks. With the switch I can leave it plugged in. hope this helps.
Omg I cant thank you enough you are a life saver. You explained the wiring so simple to where I now understand how I can do it! You saved me so much hassle I cant thank you enough. Can you please link me those tap slices?
Great video TR I've got to purchase that DCC SOUND REMOTE! Seems pretty simple to run the wires and splice the track leads into them. And luckily all my locomotives were bought w DCC. I bought 8 different locomotives, 14 hopper cars, 12 boxcars and 6 tankers 3months ago. Why idk lol, and we're not moving into our new home til roughly April. I'm using a spare bedroom to build my layout and the rest will be pics of locomotives, reflective safety vests from 4 different railroads, Starlite 222 conductor's lanterns and whatever else I can add.
Wow beautiful locomotive! Reminds me of the Athearn SD-40 in this same livery i got at a train show this fall, it's just standard DC, but the model is really nice and I hope to convert to DCC sometime. Awesome that you got NCE Power Cab too! i just got the same system for Christmas, this video will be helpful for sure!
Ever hear of that foam insulation called Great Stuff... Its about 10 bucks a can and sprays out liquid Styrofoam..; then hardens. I found it to make some great mountain scapes .
Man oh Man do I love your presentations ... and that Burlington North is one of my favorite color scheme Loco but I am jealous because I dont have DCC and probably wont .. but thats ok I have sections i can turn off and on and its a challenge
Love your videos and look forward to them week after week, thanks for posting them. I am very impressed with the sounds that come out of the Locomotive! I was curious, just how many wires in total have to be soldered to the tracks in order to complete the Layout?
It depends on the size of the layout but what I did was do a pair of white and red feeders to every row of track. If that row of track was longer then 3 or 4 feet I put another pair of feeders to prevent voltage drops
Great video and that DCC Starter set looks good, I will check it out. One thing though. My HO layout is only 4x8 with an outer and inner oval loop all connected. With this size layout so I still need to do the bus wire and multiple soldered connections??? Would I be OK with just the terminal connections to the DCC controller?
You could probably get away with just the connecting of the DCC terminals but I would connect it and test it out all through the layout to see how to works
Love your videos! 2 questions, did you attach your MDF board to the benches or just the foam to the board and are you planning on adding scenery to the walls or sliding in a scene on cards? Wondering if you would slide behind your hill/rock in the corner?
Thank you! And no I don’t have anything attached to the benches and I’m not sure yet. I think I’ll end up going the scene cards though and they should be able to slide behind the hill
The controller doesn’t connect to the train itself but through readings through the tracks! There’s lots of buttons and some are self explanatory but you’ll have to check out the manual for a more in depth look into the buttons and what they do
Installing powercab NCE in the layout, DCC system. In my N scale layout DC and DCC. Rat tail switch for chamber DC to DCC in my N scale layout. I need locomotives DCC with sound.
Will this controller handle a big set ,? Mine is 12x20 with 3 main lines all the way around? I've heard people say you need a booster I don't know what that is
I did get to see the kitty cat in the video I have always like burlington northern I have three tyco chicago burlington and burlington northern all three 5628 gp-20 locomotive
Great video! Definitely makes setting up DCC less scary
Dunno why UA-cam recommended me a model train video, seeing as I've never clicked on anything related, but I'm enjoying it!
That DCC BN is a beauty! Love the sounds, and the DCC wiring was cool to watch as well! I already can't wait for the next episode. Glad the episodes have been a bit longer now.
Thanks man!

I’m glad I could be of help!

Sounds awesome! You got a great idea for the layout so far
Ah yes, my weekly dose of Top Railroad!
I think you did a great job on this video, keep up the good work!
Thank you Jack!
Awesome looking and sounding BN locomotive. I always loved that green paint scheme. Nice video and thanks for sharing. Dave

Love these videos man never stop posting!
Great job bro! I luv Lombard Hobbies!!!
Love your videos and you make it super simple to learn !

Great job! That diesel engine sure does sound like a beauty.
Awesome video say you should do a operation session or some switching
I’ll definitely do that once I get more scenery done!
thanks for this video, got to know so many things.
That BN locomotive looks nice!
Omg I cant thank you enough you are a life saver. You explained the wiring so simple to where I now understand how I can do it! You saved me so much hassle I cant thank you enough. Can you please link me those tap slices?
And those white clamps you used
I get them at Lowe’s! I can’t remember the numbers but just look up what I had on the video haha

I appreciate it! That’s awesome, you’ll be more then ready locomotive and freight car wise when you do get to that point. Thanks for a great comment
I have the same NCE power Cab unit. If it freezes up on you, pull the main chip and re-seat it. Nice looking build.
I appreciate the tip! Thank you 😁

The SD models are always great looking. Can’t wait for you to get that setup!

Very cool 😎 video think you 😀 👍
Thank you!
Good choice for a engine
I'm going to order myself a well car also. they are cool.
Nice loco! NCE for the win!!!
Man oh Man do I love your presentations ... and that Burlington North is one of my favorite color scheme Loco but I am jealous because I dont have DCC and probably wont .. but thats ok I have sections i can turn off and on and its a challenge
Thanks! I really like that color scheme as well. And you never know maybe you will someday 😁
Love the BN Loco
Nice work! How are you liking the DCC?
Eye screws are a good substitute for cable clamps
Keep up the vids man really doing a great job 👍
DCC locomotive.
👌.

yay!

I'm interested in how you attach. or connect the controller to the to the engine and what each of these individual buttons do
The controller doesn’t connect to the train itself but through readings through the tracks! There’s lots of buttons and some are self explanatory but you’ll have to check out the manual for a more in depth look into the buttons and what they do
What do the numbers mean when u introduced the train you used
Installing powercab NCE in the layout, DCC system.
In my N scale layout DC and DCC.
Rat tail switch for chamber DC to DCC in my N scale layout.
I need locomotives DCC with sound.

When connecting your feeders to the bus wire you don’t have to strip the bus wire to connect to the feeders?
Luckily you don’t need to do that if you’re using those suitcase connectors. It’s actually suggested that you don’t strip nothing just clamp it as is
oh my god I’m definitely using this! This would make my layout more active!! :)
this reminds me of that single rail that goes once a week or so and the rails arnt in very good shape
I’m curious why do you have to put a feeder wire every 3 or 4 feet on the main wire?
It’s just to prevent voltage drops so the train can run smoothly
@@TopRailroad ok thanks, just trying to get info because starting to get into the hobby
Could you use terminal tracks instead off soldering?
Did you have to put feeder wires on the main line ?
I did yeah. This will make sure there’s no power drops if and when trains are ran on there
@@TopRailroad thank you I needed to make sure
I never seen a dcc setup so simple like this
Yeah I’m somewhat new, especially when I filmed this so I wanted to make it as simple as I could haha
@@TopRailroad cool
These days, instead of a suitcase connector, I would use a WAGO.
Does your Dash 9 locomotive have loksound & dcc?
Sadly it does not but I might add that someday
@@TopRailroad Darn. That locomotive is awesome. Easy to add DCC I would assume?
I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t be bad but I’d have to do my research before anything
The correct horn
CV163=7 (Leslie RS3K)
The correct bell
CV164=1 (Default)
Alternate BNSF Horns
CV163=11 (Nathan K3LA)
CV163=9 (Nathan New Cast P3U)
Alternate bell (post rebuild)
CV164=2 (Slow EMD Bell)
I would try all 14 horns to see which one is your fav.
Someday I’ll have to mess with all those and see which I like. I appreciate the info 😁
Oh by the way i was looking at the wrong sound file, its actually CV163=0 to S3KR CV163=6 to K3LA and CV163=1 (Default) S3LR
Where can I buy the dcc system
I got mine at Lombard Hobbies! You can always try eBay as well
Why twist the buss wires?
It’s just what NCE recommend in there handbook
I did get to see the kitty cat in the video I have always like burlington northern I have three tyco chicago burlington and burlington northern all three 5628 gp-20 locomotive
Geeps are some of my favorite kinds of locomotives!
they are call suitcase faster
Badsss
What train set is this like the engine with the sounds what brand
