Screams Toronto, Canada loudly! Makes one proud to be Canadian! Definitely one of my all-time favorites. Once listened to a CBC radio DNTO piece about the making of the song and how integral Billy Bryant was to the whole arrangement. But didn't know that the great Daniel Lanois produced it. It couldn't possibly fail to become a Classic with the likes of Lanois, Segato and Bryant etc. behind it.
It's bands like Parachute Club that put Canada on the global map of independent musicians and artists. The 80's were a gigantic awakening for Canadian music. Thank you Lorraine
A timeless tune.If it's lasted this long it will last forever. It's an anthem for the gay community and it still plays on someone's float in the pride parade every year for the last 35(?) years in Toronto. This track came out at the perfect time for me as I was coming out and I remember dancing to it following a float at my first Pride Parade. It was pure magic. Everyone was beaming with Joy! I wonder how many people this song inspired to come out. It worked for me and still fills my heart when I hear it. Thank you, Lorraine. You rock!
I absolutely love Lorraine. I new Billy for a few years before he passed and I got him to open up about the very early days and his old bands before Parachute Club. Very interesting guy.
I was in Toronto on tour with my band. We were doing a sound check at the now defunct Bamboo Club and this song was being played to check the sound system. As a percussionist the rhythm track caught my ear but I also like the message of the lyrics. An anthem of hope and perseverance.
I always liked this song from the first time I seen the video on MTV back in the day. I still remember John Goodman introducing the song on the Top 20 Countdown.
1983 , I was 12 or 13 years old in elementary school it was played on every radio station CKOC, Chum AM/FM, cfny . Klite FM, chfi Maybe Q107. Talk about about a feel good tune.
I'm so lucky to have been a teenager when Rise Up was released. A song that inspires us to Rise Up in our own positive way, even if it's just to dance the night away...😎
Such a spiritually uplifting song which, through its positive rhythms and lyrics, gives one a sense of hope to see the goodness in people and gives rise for a better future world based on ❤️,equality, and respect for each other.
This is pretty cool. A song that never got out a lot. I have the LP....Dust off and play. But never heard the leader before.....This is archival worthy.
1983 was at the beginning of the AIDS epidemic. I remember it as a child as a very scary and confusing time. Much like 2020 is now. Not a lot was known about the disease a lot if theories and what not. Then this song came out and added some much needed energy and relief to the stress and pressure of the day.
This song always reminds me of Michael Ignatieff. He tried, and failed, to excite Canadians by saying “rise up Canada… rise up… rise up!”. Someone made a UA-cam video with song playing in the back.
I got so sick of this song, since it was overly played on MuchMusic, had better songs from other groups that seemed to appear a couple of times then disappeared! The Spoons were another band that got overplayed, with crappy songs, but oddly enough were on nearly every day!
With respect, MuchMusic was one of the greatest things that ever happened to Canadian TV. So many groups that never would have been heard otherwise...so much exposure to audiences that never would have heard the music (tourists and not the usual TV audience)...so much good music that never would have crossed the border (Moonquake anyone? Parachute Club? Rush? Loverboy? Triumph?) So what exactly is your gripe?
This song will NEVER grow old. An all time classic that always brings a smile to my face.

"Rise Up" is one of the best songs by the Parachute Club. The song never gets old. Thank you Lorraine!

No other song elicits stronger ‘Toronto in the 1980’s’ vibes than this. Classic!
I still love this song. Doesn't get old!!
This never gets old.. loved it then, still love it now.
Don't ever stop singing it Lorraine. 😎

This is SO Toronto to me. My cousin was a real Torontonian. I couldn't give up Montreal, but I LOVE this tune.
Somple yet complex song ..One of my favourites. 👍😎

Great song , we need this right now !!!!

Lorraine please write a "Rise Up Stories" book as you suggest in the video as it would be such a great Canadian book.
one of my favs during the best decade ever
Heard it for the first time at a Molson Beer tent at the CNE before the album came out. Fell in love with it then. Still gives me hope now.
To my Queen of Cdn Soca .... Great song ! Love ya @ the Chaud ..Rose Rm !

I'd read the "Rise Up Stories" book. You go girl!
Published on my birthday!
The first time that I've heard that song,I was serving in Germany in the early 80's.

"We want freedom".Damn right.
reminds me of summer.
Lorraine, the "Prophet -Five" sounded great, didn't it ? Cheers honey !!
why was it taken away from Spotify
Wow, why isn't this on Spotify or Tidal!
This was Jack Layton's favorite song
Apparently it was played at Layton and Chow's wedding?
What Canadian doesn’t know this awesome song
Today more than ever ... "We want freedom to love who we please." This should be the anti-hate anthem of 2016!
Amen bro!!!
I think you're mistaking the word "love" for something else. Everyone's free to love.
A call to action for American women in 2021!
This artist does see music.
I fist heard this song in a pizza commercial ! :)

The American women & men have finally risen up! Go figure!
Risen up to keep Trump in power?
And....I was in a car accident in 84? Flipped over 6 times, came up, right side up. You know what was in the tape-deck? Yep....
Some unvarnished optimism that echos for days after you listen to the song.
I was there. I don’t remember shit. Lol.
They did rise up but never did take power.
She looks like she has had a rough life
SOMEONE PLEASE PUT THIS SONG WITH A MONTAGE OF WHATS HAPPENING WITH THE TRUCKERS IN OTTAWA AND AROUND THE WORLD🙏🏻🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦💜💜💜

Father time has not been kind to her.
Nor to you, obviously....
gefilter2112 how does it feel to be an asshole?
Woman is beyond a legend in her own time, the way her spirit lives in the hearts of millions, forever giving hope, healing ,and overcoming. And you?
I tried gefilte fish once. It was terrible. You have chosen your name well.
Do people rise up against you?
