I’m new to this, and there’s SO much I don’t know! The problem is that when you buy your stuff, nobody gives you these tips and enlightens you as to HOW to do things and WHY. So how does somebody like me find out this important information? Find somebody who “knows how” and watch his videos! Thanks Dave - liked and subscribed!!!
super excited you found my channel and I'm sure you will find a great many very helpful videos here. I know you will enjoy owning a tractor and learning to properly use it with in its boundaries. if I can help you in any way just ask.
peace love and respect Dave in Virginia
Enjoyed the video. Appreciate your time, thoughts and sharing. Your description was helpful.
glad it helped, since this video I set this mower up for the harbor freight quick hitch and it works great!
Thank you for taking the time to post this video! Your video answers every question I had about the finish mower in addition to your great suggestion about floating.
glad you enjoyed it and hope you find many more useful videos here on the channel.
Thank you so much, Dave, for the video. I just did come upon a used finish mower and had no idea how to get this oriented and hooked up correctly. But, I did know where I was gonna go to find out how! I hope this finds you well. Thanks again.
awesome! you will love the finish mower. I just converted mine to be quick hitch ready. it is super awesome now! here is that video ua-cam.com/video/L8ZHfhS__bU/v-deo.html
I don't have a finishing mower, but my brother does, and he loves his, and good it only is used on mainly flat land where we live. I love what you said about how you use your mower and you must love it so much.
thank you it has been a joy to use. i used it for three hours yesterday and it still does a great job.
I purchased a used King Kutter finishing mower from Craigslist last year for a winter project. Worked on it today and ready to attach to tractor. I remembered this video from a year ago and revisited it again before heading out to mow. . . thanks for the tips!!!
awesome so glad that you found this helpful. King Kutter makes nice stuff and you will enjoy it greatly for many years. I got this one used from a guy for cheap. I had never heard of this brand " first choice" turns out its made in an Italian plant that makes a lot of implements and puts various names on them. so far its been a great mower. rear discharge is the way to go on these finish mowers.
Good information I learning we just bought one
Thank you. A very good explanation. I just got a finish mower and this gives me a lot of info I needed.
''THANKS!'' Best video on top link adjustment found in 10 years of Look~N.

Thanks, very helpful. We just got a finish mower last week
awesome I'm still using this finish mower. I did a few mods to make it quick hitch friendly and man is this thing nice! I may ever get it painted sometime in the future.
@@daveknowshow I have a quick hitch ordered but I have no idea when it’ll be in
@@FriendlyCleaningKC awesome I have the HF one it was only 89 bucks and what a bargain! I have a video on the mods I did to make my finish mower more QH friendly. it was well worth doing.
@@daveknowshow cool, I got a speeco so I wouldn’t have to mess with the bushings
Awesome tutorial Dave! Thanks much!!!
+ScoutCrafter thanks man! appreciate you watching and the comments.
So glad I watched this....much better than trial and error.....thanks Dave..:)
always glad to help thanks for stopping by
I hadnt thought of that for sure. I will try that next mowing season. The problem you talk about also happens if you are backing the mower off the lip of a hill that drops off pretty quickly.
yes having the chains and a hydraulic top link really helps with flexibility and being able to mow down hills across ditch lines as well as backing down ditch banks.
Hey Dave. Thanks again. Really great, informative video and helpful as I just got a rear finish mower and will be using it for the first time tomorrow. This really helped me understand it better. Have a great week !!
GP Outdoors thanks brother you have no idea how good that makes me feel to hear folks are getting some value from these videos. If I ever get my computer fixed I hope to post a few more videos this summer. Thanks again for watching.

Thanks...good video, much appreciated.
thanks so much FOR WATCHING I hope you will subscribe and share my video on your social media outlets. have an amazing weekend!
I bought a new 6’ LMC finishing mower in August of 2022. I love it! It is made by “Shaktiman” in India and imported/distributed by Lowery Manufacturing in Boaz, Alabama. Seems to be well built!
there are some well built imports out there. mine was made in Italy at a manufacturing plant to makes them and badges them under various names. I've had great success with mine.
@@daveknowshow What brand is yours?
@@travisricks3436 "first choice" brand
Very helpful, thank you very much
thank you for stopping by the channel
Great explanation, love your accent.
accent? what accent? lol joking thanks much appreciate the kind words.
@@daveknowshow haha, yeah I do not have an accent till someone from America points it out. We are planning to buy a finish mower to run behind our tractor so I really appreciate this tutorial. I especially like the idea of the mower in the float position, being towed by the tractor and following the bumps and dips of the land. Your explanation of the top link set up is invaluable. Thanks.
@@kdegraa awesome! thanks so much. since making this video I have actually converted this mower to be quick hitch ready. it works flawlessly now with a quick hitch. definitely worth doing
I get the feeling rear mounted finish mowers aren't the most common. Everybody tried to steer me toward either a brush hog or trading the tractor for a zero turn. I went with a CountyLine model from Tractor Supply. The top link frame design looks a bit different but at least now I have a better idea what it's supposed to do, thanks to this video. FYI, the wheels on mine don't have any kind of bearings. Not sure if that's normal but it ships from the factory dry, and takes a LOT of grease to fill that cavity between the wheel and bolt the first time.
yes they never grease them they hope you wont either resulting in a wore out wheel about the time the parts are no longer available. I just did a video on making this mower quick hitch friendly. yours may already be like that if not its worth a look at doing. so much easier to hook up now.
Good video. Thanks 🙏🏼
thank you for watching my video and thanks for the kind words. be blessed.
Good video 👍
thank you glad you enjoyed it!
good job man
+Bison Workshop thanks Bob only took 5 days to render and two days to upload. still having issues with this computer and my internet so cant get online. miss being able to upload videos and watch the videos others are posting. I know I'm missing a ton of good videos. looking at a new to me laptop which may help if I can get it.
Great explanation. Found little help even after reading the manual as a last resort.
glad you enjoyed it and got something out of it. be sure and check my many other tractor related videos.
This is the best video by far I've seen for setting a top link on a finish mower. I do have a question though, as I've only ever run bush hogs. Where do you set the 3 point lever on the tractor? Do you just push the lever all the way down so the finish more will follow the contours of the ground for an even cut?
if its a four wheel finish mower like this one all the way down works flawlessly. if it only has two wheels in the rear set it just like the brush hog or level.
daveknowshow That's what I thought. Thanks! You earned a new subscriber today
glad to have been able to help. thank you for your comments and subscription to my channel.
As usual, another very informative and educational video! Thanks for all the content you share with your UA-cam viewers.
Cliffside Acres thank you very much for taking the time to watch my videos
I have a new finish mower, gonna fix it like I did my bush hog,two shackles, one on tractor, one on mower/bush hog, heavy piece of adjusted chain with mower sitting level, big enough for the shackle pins to fit through,it can articulate all it wants too,no adjustable top link, just chain!
yes I did a video after this one where I modified this with chains to make it more quick hitch ready / friendly. it works great! you should check it out.

Great video Dave, answered many of my questions on finishing mowers. I just bought one (used) a 60 inch for my Kubota BX2670. I have a quick hitch on it, and having trouble connecting the top link, it does not reach the hook on QH. I have the flex link like yours, do I have to take the QH off or can I use an extension of some kind? Thanks again for a very detailed "operators guide".
the additional link helps which replaces the top hook on the quick hitch. however I recently did a mod on mine to make it quick hitch ready. you can see that video here. ua-cam.com/video/L8ZHfhS__bU/v-deo.html
Any chance you have a manual on that mower. I have the same one. But no book for part numbers or anything
no manual but a quick google search for parts for a " first choice gm 30-60 parts name " will render many results. I ordered new belts and blades that way for mine a few years back. if yours is a 6ft version just substitute 72 where the 60 is.
Answer me this...will my Kubota L34 HST 35 horse handle a 7 ft finish mower instead of just my 6 ft. finish mower.
yes in my opinion it will handle a 7ft finish mower because they are belt driven three blade design. get the rear discharge. it will NOT handle 7 foot brushhog very well though. of course the type of material being cut and the terrain you are cuting on plays a part as well. if its flat no problem at all with the 7ft finish mower. if its real hilly you may encounter some bogging up hill.
for people new to the PTO it may help to give some time to how dangerous it is and how to deal with the safety area. I try to use common sense but... enough said
yeah I tend to skip the safety stuff here and focus on helping people learn how to actually use the implements in a way to renders the best results with the least stress on the machine. plenty of safety videos on youtube but not many videos that actually show solid concrete techniques to use these tractors in a manner which they were intended that get the best results with the least stress on the tractor and operator.
but then you won't be able to lift the mower if you needed to
why cant you? I lift it all the time.
Save your money…. Don’t buy one.. Mine leaves clumps of grass. Zero turn is 1000% faster and better.
I been looking for a zero turn myself but way over priced on used ones and I cant afford a new one. if I could I would.
Zero turns are no good on hills.
