I’ve always been curious about the little flub with the bassline at 0:08. Almost sounds like the pluck is being pitchbent upward from E to G, but it could also be a misaligned lurch note.
@@iggystoneman2933 Yes! It's one of the few things that have some sort of deep effect on my mental state! Also, there's a part between the next 2 bars that is the point where the Doctor's face starts to morph in the titles. Think the Patrick Troughton titles. I absolutely adore that too. Apologies for the very loose description of what I'm trying to explain. Music is something I know very little about. Hopefully you get where I'm coming from.
Personally, I like Gold's take on the basslines. Some are worse than others, but generally I think he's done a pretty bang up job. I still don't think he's composed a bad theme for the show at all.
hello, what happened with your email? once I wrote you and you answered me and after a few years I wrote you again and you did not answer me, is it still the same email? Greetings.
It wasn’t played on any instruments. Delia had a string stretched across a base. Several different string plucks were recorded onto tape and copied over to another tape the required amount of times that they were needed. They were then cut up into specifically measured lengths and taped together in a particular order to create each unique portion, which were again copied over any time that they needed to repeat the same 3-4 notes. There’s a bit of harmonic manipulation also.
i Would've never thought i would ever hear the full plucked bassline.. this is beautiful Thank you !! more if possible!!
Oh, I'll just listen to this on repeat...
1:12 is my favorite part

my guess is delia had the tape speed knob set wrong when she was recording that note but decided to keep it cause it sounded nice
I've never actually noticed that before, but now I can not unhear it.
@@Doctor_Foreman_63 Lol, sorry for that! It’s usually covered by the sound effects, so hopefully it’s not too noticeable
I was always a huge fan of it, it gave me this huge dopamine spike. Hearing it isolated like this is the highlight of this video for me.

You are the best
it’s still so weird that a single guitar string (I think) made the bassline and Delia just repeated the same set of notes over and over
YES!!!!!!!!!
I’d love to have been there to see how ste did it
leak the howell sting
Do you already have it?
@@therestorationofdrwho1865
I have a heavily encoded, incomplete sample from a reconstruction
@@NatrollJM The one in my latest rebuild (May 2024) that sting was taken off the RL4.

Murray Gold should have a good listen because this is how it's done correctly. So in future, please don't debauch it. There's a good chap. Thank you.

@@Zepumpkineaterfor sure, gold's themes have all been phenomenal.
@@Zepumpkineater I can't stand'em
Do you think you could rebuild the bassline for the 2008 version of the 1986 dr who theme?
Can you do the same with the McCoy one? It reminds me of folk dancing. lol
What are the chances of these being put into a drive folder or somethin?
A wave file please ❤

What instrument was this bass line originally played on?
Simple guitar that was edited to sound heavier, I believe.
