These remind me of the Ex-CN SD60Fs I caught leading a ballast train. If you’re wondering where these SD60Fs are, they’re owned by a shortline based in Fordville, ND called the Northern Plains Railroad (NPR). The ones I’ve caught so far out of their 14 are: 5513, 5525, and 5535, all of which have P5s.
Glad you enjoyed! I've lived here for years and only caught this sulphur train coming out during good light once, it's somewhat of a rare train to catch.
Sound delay in the first crossing was considerable. You must have been quite far away. The engine was clear through the crossing before the final blast registered on camera.
Thanks David. This is one of my favorite trains to catch around these parts because it rarely runs east in the morning sun. Last time I caught one of these in morning light was 5 years ago.
I fully understand. Where I am the Rocky Mountaineer is always W.B. in the morning and E.B. in the evening so I'm into the light both ways. I really liked the intro on your video. Hearing the horn but seeing nothing I had the feeling that it might just come rolling over the hill on the road. It's a great video Ben, I look forward to more from you. Regards, David.
Every summer we usually go through the Provost/Unity/Wilkie area so maybe one of these times we will see you. That S curve just east of Macklin is one of my favorite locations in Saskatchewan.
Thank you David. It's definitely worth the trip, there's got to be at least two dozen wooden bridges and a few big ones between Alix and Rocky Mountain House along this sub. If you plan on coming let me know in advance, at the very least I could let you know what the power will be for the 552/555 switcher out of Red Deer.
Thank you! The video camera has a pretty big zoom lens on it, I'm not sure what the exact dimensions are, something around 30X. For still photography, I use a 18-135mm. I find it works well for just about every situation when you shoot large things like trains in broad daylight.
Great video actually

Nice! Your lucky to be able to see them, I've always liked the horn and prime mover sounds of the 60F's.
If you want to weather any of your SD60Fs you can take a look at my videos of 5513 and 5535.
Thanks!CN for ever!Super video! John
Thanks John!!
Hi B love those train sounds & horn, the scenery, wow man thanks for sharing.

Incredible shots, that Nathan K5LLA was perfect, very loud horn.
Thanks!

THANK YOU FOR VIDEO
Your welcome my friend!
Ben beautiful vídeo...
Super vídeo...👍👍👍👏👏👏
Thank you Luiz!
nice horn
Awesome catch man
Thanks Bubs!
At the start we’re those 2 different tracks or did it have a sharp turn?
Same track; it makes a big loop around Blackfalds Lake and crosses the same highway twice.
@@BArailsystem oh nice

After reading the description, I assume you were about 1/4 mile away ;)
Yeah amazing how much delay there is. I was surprised, I didn't think I was that far away.
Great catch, surprised these old Cars are still in service considering their age, keep up the nice filming.
Thanks, can't be too many more years of service left in them. Pretty soon this will be archival footage.
Beautiful scenery there and I love to hear the sound of the horn echoing among the poplar bluffs.
Thanks Ken, I agree, it's a nice part of the province especially this time of year.
More, more, more! Greetings from Germany
Thanks for watching! Greetings to you from Alberta, Canada!
wow, superb shots, quite a 'horseshoe' curbe at the beginning
Thanks Andre! Yes it is a pretty decent curve. It does a full 180° within a quarter section, not nearly the grades of the real horseshoe curve though.
Another high quality video from you Ben. Properly presented even the most mundane of trains can be thrilling. David.

You ever do any CP further east and north and into Saskatchewan? I'll watch for you and throw a big wave if you're around those parts at all.

@@BArailsystem nice! Yep that's my main stomping grounds haha.
Ik this sounds stupid but at the beginning are they both the same trains
Same train, the track loops back within a half mile there.
Very well done. Need to make a trip down to shoot that line

Nice scenery Nice Video.
Thanks!
Would there be any chance I could get a digital copy of one of those pictures at the end?
Sure, what are you intending to do with it?
They are all posted on my Flickr account here:

BArailsystem. I intend to hang it on the wall of my train room. The room needs a little color.
Cool, which one do you want? You could email me at BArailsystem@gmail.com and I'll send you the full size image.
Nice video ben BTW I've been to Rocky Mountain house
Thanks Delores. You would have been very close to where this train originates.
Great video! What size of lens did you use?

Ok, thanks! Your filming is always very good.
Nice K5LLA!
is that 2 long 2 short 1 long a standard practice in Canada?
No, in Canada the rule 14L whistle for crossings is the same as the US, must be this guy's interpretation of it.
did it smell?
Interesting question. No, it did not. I guess I'm surprised as it was likely loaded less than 24 hours before this video.
Great catch! That is sure a unique looking area! Also, I wonder why the front unit is missing a cover under its cab.
Thanks!
The way the caption picture was. Dude i thought this was ur layout. Bahahhaa
I wish!
Missing a panel door, interesting
All that stinky yellow brimstone sliding through an ocean of mustard seed.
Yellow poetry in motion!
