Is the pronunciation of the g at the end of fertig being hard a regional thing? Every other source I've seen and heard gives the pronunciation of the g in fertig as the same as the ch in ich.
Hallo 🙂 You are absolutely right. There are quite a lot or regional differences when it comes to pronunciation in German and fertig is great example for this. In some areas it is pronounced with a "ch" sound at the end, like in "ich". In other areas the pronunciation is closer to the spelling and the sound at the end is a "ig", like in "einig".
Gute Frage 👍 Bist du bereit? - Are you ready? Bist du fertig? - Literally it translates as "Are you done?". However, it can also have the meaning of being ready in the context of being done with a previous task or preparation.
