It looked a bit like a fiddly process doing this directly on a plank. In future, it may be helpful to know that it's possible to ease the process by inserting sheets of wax or parchment paper under the edge of the cake before applying frosting, and pull them away along with excess frosting when the process is finished. Also a cake that is frozen before frosting will stay firm for quite a while during the frosting process. Not that this one looked bad (it didn't at all).
Morgan I started watching your channel early last year . I live in central England UK and my son lives to the west in Wales 4 hours away from me , he's only 19 but moved to work on a holiday caravan site as there wasn't much work where we live, well anyhow he came down for Christmas and stopped here and loaded his Xbox to our TV while he was down . The one day he put on UA-cam and low and behold your also on my sons list of who to watch!! 😄 He said he loves watching your channel especially seeing the dogs . Great minds think alike ! Happy Birthday Allison 💝
Whenever I used to make pies or cakes, I'd have to lock them in my office to keep the cats from sampling them. As soon as you walked away from 'Lil and the cake I said, "I hope he shows us the cake with the paw prints in it." LOL Happy Birthday, Allison.
I saw something where a farmer used a small section of rounded pipe sliced legnthwise, permently fixed to the fences. They would then pop the hose into the pipe that would hold it in place while they were filling the water troughs.
I thought about a pipe too. Maybe even just a piece of pipe that's larger in diameter than the hose, so you can just pass the hose through the piece of pipe.
You are a good man, Morgan. How sweet to make Allison a dinosaur birthday cake. You have excellent animal husbandry practices. I especially ❤ how you ❤ the cats. Happy Birthday, Allison! 🎉
I was watching this video with one of my cats sitting on my shoulders, wrapped around the back of my neck like a coat collar, and me sitting in the chair contorting my body so the cat was comfortable. I saw your cat perched on your shoulder and had to laugh. That is true love when you contort your body to accommodate a much-loved cat.😼♥
I’m still holding onto hope that Molly might reappear one day. Ginny and Pablo definitely weren’t interested in being outside. They both ran back inside.
❤ The weird chickens are such brave souls that they wanted to venture outside on such a cold winter's day. The barn cats don't seem to mind being house cats today. ❤
@@shirmoussafir4924 She disappeared. She didn't come around for food at one point for a couple of days, he took her to the vet, there was a clean bill of health, then a few weeks later she just was gone entirely. Nobody knows for certain.
Happy Birthday Allison! The birds looked happy in the hoop coop. I am glad you are working with the cattle. It is great that you are using a stick to keep safe when working with cattle.
Happy Birthday Allison!🎈 🎉🎈🦖 The blue icing trim on the cake reminds me of Toothless. Have you seen How To Tame Your Dragon. There is a sequel also. They are awesome and fun movies for all ages. My husband and I love both movies.😊
A dinosaur cake ! Every new thing I learn about Allison makes me love her more. Happy belated birthday ! Mine was on the 25th :) What is the current hierarchy among the cows ? I bet Astrid is moving up the ranks, she strikes me as the boss cow of her own group. Are you still halter training (or, I guess, maintaining the training) of Randy ?
I absolutely love that you named a cow Astrid, I lost one of the most beautiful cats I have ever met way too soon last year and that was his name. It’s really nice to hear it again 🖤
Morgan Gold! You are a kind sole! You are more of a cat person than you admijt to. Your kind heart creates an aura animals can sense. Even though you eat animals you have love and respect for them. God bless you Morgan. What you said about molly being a great house cat gives me hope. That she found a home that needed a good house cat and is making someone else very happy. And of course they will never have a rodent problem. So that's how I choose to believe what happened to her. Love the video and the work with the cows. Abby is so funny. I don't think she did exactly what you think she did. Keep making great videos and God bless you and your family and farm.
Wait, what? You have heated troughs! Why not use them? You'd save yourself all that hose handling & lugging heavy buckets of water into into the hoop coop. You can scoop the water for the birds out from the cattle troughs. I've been watching you since you started this channel & by year 3, I promised myself that if I even get to actually own a homestead, it's gonna be in a place where it doesn't snow. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALLISON! 🎁🎈
We are cat people in our home .in fact thomas the alley cat watches your videos with me usually in the morning! He likes your ducks and your kitty cats!! We all love your sweet farm videos!!! Thank you for sharing like ya do!!
I'd buy a few dozen meters of a stiffer hose (pipe?) with bigger diameter, cut it into 50-100cm long pieces and fasten those pointing towards the tubs using zipties. -Waterhose should stay in place with the help of friction (no moving parts) -Easy one handed(!) use -No maintenance(!?) -Cheap! Greetings from Bavaria P.S. I would use 5-10cm diameter PVC pipe
I live in Colorado in if I have to use the hose when it’s frozen with ice in the winter I’ll bring it in and put it in a tub with some hot water for about 5-10 minutes and it works like a charm every time. Please keep up the hard work your videos have been helping me get through some rough medical things lately! Sending love from Colorado!
For holding your hoses in place: I always keep some spools of wire around. I would use some with just a narrow enough gauge that it is easily workable. Wrap it around the rail several times, then make a loop with it for underneath the rail, then wrap it around the rail several more times. Twist the ends together and use some needle nose pliers to bend the ends toward the rail so they don't poke anyone. Next, twist the loop around 2 or 3 times so that it has a neck where it meets the rail. This way you can adjust the size of the loop so that it's just large enough to easily slide the hose through. Of course, you could also cut a small section of pvc pipe, or other item, that's the proper diameter and drill a few holes on one side and pass the hose through that, instead.
We always stored the summer hoses next to the water heater. We only used 100% rubber for winter. If you freeze it, they don’t leak when thawed. Glove and boot dryers are gold. I’d used to take 2pr gloves. One pair to wear one inside the bib. As soon as your fingertips start to chill switch.
Get some 90° pipe fittings, attach them to the fence so they can slide side to side but will aim down into the trough. Then attach a hose converter to the pipe fittings. That way you can just screw the hose into the fittings.
Morgan, why can’t you run the bird hose into the hoop house, to make filling the buckets easier? The last time I made a birthday cake, the cats pushed it onto the floor…😂. Oh, yes, did you know that they make giant rubber-covered twist ties of varying lengths? You could wrap the middle around the hose and secure the ends to whatever fence is handy. They stay formed where you put them, but are easily removed.
Good morning Morgan, that is the cutest cake you made for Allison, I'm sure she will be delighted. 🎂 Happy Birthday Allison! Thinking back in the day they worked a lot harder, that's why they got smart and invented things like heaters for water troughs so they'd work smarter instead of harder, something to ponder don't you think. All is well at Gold Shaw Farm, thanks Morgan.
10:50 Actually, farmers used to use heated wood fired winter troughs in winter before electricity was available. My mom grew up on the Canadian prairies on a farm with no electricity. She and her sisters did chores like rekindling and stoking the heated through, watering and feeding the animals, etc. Properly constructed well insulated cat shelters with deep straw and no blankets do keep cats warm in winter. Blankets get wet and freeze. There are plans available online. They can even be made from tote bins. The shelter interior should not be too large to keep the body heat near the cat. I look for instructions recommended by community cat programs or TNR groups who experience cold weather. Neighborhood Cats out of New York has excellent info and a free downloadable Guide I recommend for anyone looking after outdoor cats. ♥️
Great cake! Happy birthday Allison! Recommend for water hose using: 5Pcs 18-Inch Original Silicone, Steel-Core, Reusable Rubber Twist Tie, Cable Tie Straps. (Black 18-Inch) for Organizing. (Dia 5mm) Very handy bendable ties that you could easy move, but yet very configurable for hose and fence.
Velcro tape - come is various lengths and widths ...that might be the cheap and durable solution for your issues fixing the hose there. Being a freelance DJ, Velcro tape is absolutely priceless for me fixing any cables without the infamous Duct- or Gaffa tape ..and you might to add some thin rubber-like stuff that you put under small carpets so they don't slip away. That should definitely work for you in even the coldest conditions!! Happy Birthday to the wonderful Allison!!
To the creator of this channel who is definitely not a cat person...♥😻😻♥. My attitude regarding farm animals after seeing the way they can be treated has expanded my viewpoint. BTW hope those 2 barn cats have some cozy blankets in the basement.😉
You should secure a piece of 2 inch PVC pipe to the fence pointing down to your troughs and then you can slide the hose into it pointing at the trough so itll hold it in place while filling but then you can take it out and move it to another area when needed
Magnets in a sock tied, or duck taped, tight around hose near outlet. Thread hose between metal railings then magnet-stick flailing end aimed at tub. Nice to see Gold Farm back on screen in all its HD glory. Wheres ya bin?
A plastic clamp like used for woodworking is the perfect solution for securing your hose, my husband uses one to secure the hose onto the glass for filling his large fish tanks. Easy to move around

Happy birthday Allison! And for the hose mounting situation maybe a section of PVC pipe mounted on the fence at the right angle to have the hose pointing down, and a clip of some kind to hold it in the PVC pipe section?
