I love how the "alignments" are Imperial, Heretic and Good, meaning that the first two are definitely not the third...
Yeah that’s great
One thing is not like the other...
The Emperor protects
I mean, even a basic understanding of 40k lore clearly highlights that the imperium isn't 'good' in any shape or form by our standards, and if you go deeper, you also basically realize that the emperor of mankind was never a good person either and may ultimately become something close to a chaos god, though of course the imperium would never address him like that. Guilliman realized that when he rivived and visited his father and Living Saints are already basically demons but styalized like literal angels with angel wings and everything and serve in His name.
So it's super fitting. What's going to be interesting is how the 'good' option works out, as it should in theory give you the least friends and get you kicked in the face the most.
@@CrystallineLore Yep, that's what I meant, it indicates that the devs "get" what the setting is supposed to be. In recent years, I feel that a lot of mainstream 40k media has been downplaying what an absolute nightmare the Imperium is supposed to be. It's not just supposed to be "edgy", it's meant to be genuinely horrific, and I'd like to see that embraced more...
I hope it's not a bit like mass effect where the 'correct' way to play is to metagame and focus completely on one conviction as all the good stuff is hidden in the higher ranks
True, that kind of system ends up stifling choice if anything. Choices with individual consequences rather than just "good" or "evil" meters is best.
From today’s news:
“Important decisions taken during the course of the adventures of your Lord Captain will have lasting consequences called Convictions. Your character will accumulate points towards Imperialis, Benevolentia, or Hereticus, unlocking new perks and dialogue options. While the system is still in very early stages, you can already have a glimpse of it in the Beta.”
I hope we can max all skill before mid game or something Conviction rank sound good on paper but with speech option bonus i feel worry
It takes away a bit of the fun of roleplaying if you don't really consider the options because you have to stick to your chosen conviction.
I see what ya'll are saying. From a gameplay perspective, its nice to have flexibility. But from the perspective of the game being Warhammer 40k, its a game of extremes. You are either praising the emperor, or you're a heretic. There's no in-between. The setting doesn't include many grey-areas.
I can't stress how much I anticipate this game. I love WH40K and owl cat have delivered top notch games so far, Rogue Trader will be an absolute gem, I'm sure. :D
Your intro theme is haunting my dreams, I love it!
Is it possible to hide the conviction labels? (Imperial/Hereticus/Benevolentia)
The choices would probably be obvious, but it would help in not influencing my choices. I just want to go with the flow my first playthrough and see where it takes me.
Oh, going heretic or anti-imperial never ends well.
In two adventures I played, Rogue Trader went full heretic - the first one we reported to the Inquisition for dealing with chaos agents (also, the Navigator had a bad habit of divining the Immaterium from the bowels of infants so he had to go as well) and the other one was thrown out of an airlock after the mutiny started by the Missionary and Explorator because they found out that the RT had some bad genes and was, in fact, a mutant. So when they figured out that he was looking for some YuVath artifact to "cure" his condition, they accused him of corruption and attempting to defile the holly human form with xenotech. Seneschal fervently objected so he was burned in the sacred fusion core.
The moral is - no matter how powerful you think you are, don't forget that you are surrounded by fanatics.
Yep, the roads taken can only lead to pain... just the question is who delivers
I think they did a really good job with pathfinder, so have high hopes for this working out.
Thank you for another great content video!
This will be great. I'm glad they got a convictions systems. I know some of the lore and heard many audiobooks of 40k. I prefer the normal stuff rather than Astartes wars.
I wishlisted the game b/c of Mortismal and this just seems like another system I'd be interested in. I'll be keeping my eyes on this 1 for sure.
I gave beta access but I'm waiting. I want to be as surprised as possible. I can't wait to play this game
Good show sir
This game is looking good, hate to buy stuff new and at full cost but i may have to check this one out.
Let's go ! Man this bring memories from Right of the Righteous beta with that huge amount of videos. Wish you the best Mordy and i already know where to come for the best content about the game.
Going to headcanon a hydra brand on my rogue trader
HYDRA DOMINATUS!
heresy playthrough gonna be very interesting.
A system is only as good as its execution. Onward to 200k. All glory to the algorithm.
I'm very attracted to the Heresy stance myself but I'm worried that Argenta and Heinrix will quit. From my experience in Alpha playing without those two doesn't really bare thinking about.
Maybe we'll be able to corrupt them 😉
@@voice_of_terra7228 Knights of the Old Republic II let you corrupt your companions. Maybe.
I'm curious about this too.
@@R3GARnator and if not you could kill them xD.
Maybe some of them will always turn hostile if you go heresy route. I wonder if other paths will allow to keep all of your companions.
Sounds cool
Gonna grab a coat, slab a Hydra on it and go on a crazy adventure with a simple mentality of : Do I feel loyal or heretical today?
Honestly, if this goes as far WOTR - tho, i do doubt that big of a morality set up, I don't expect to turn into chaos prince ( or even become chaos worshipper as many people hope, since by core it is still game about imperium and for whatever reason we don't have any other games [ aside from DoW expansions ] about such topics ) - going imperial would turn you into Saint, hereticus into DP but what about the 'good' path? Put into Wraithguard because you were nice to those Eldar three chapters back?
The Road of an Iconclast might not be shoved into AdMech business... who knows what lies in the end
I love a moral system in RPGs but I kinda wish you could hide what conviction is what. Feel like seeing what convicition each choice is might force people to just choose whatever conviction they want or whatever instead of organically getting classed by your choices.
Maybe you can turn it off like in Tyranny?
this is a very good point, and something many people dont think about. Mass effect was the worst for this, going paragon for example, u would just pick the paragon choice without even reading if that was the roll u picked for the game.
Having an option to turn all that off really sets you down an unknown path and i love the idea that suddenly u dont know where ur choices will lead you.
You can turn off the alignment options in wrath/kingmaker as well in dialogue. In wrath though the dialogue is kindof so extreme that it is actually kindof impossible to not immediately see that a choice is lawful or evil even when you don't have it right next to it.
Now it definitely won't happen but I want the convictions to be spicy like mythic paths, I'm talking by the end of the game you're a Daemon Prince of Slaanesh levels of crazy.
it would not be impossible to do, that game could be better and larger than Pathfinder wotr. Becoming a daemon prince is something you could add for the heretic ending maybe as final goal, although it would suck if you couldnt play as one. On the other Hand you would be way to op. I really hope that we get to fall to Chaos for Real and turn our whole dynasty into a traitor one with daemon worlds. I have high hopes, although mono gods will probably not be a Thing. From what I saw its really Chaos Undivided Themen because of the Word bearers Legion being the traitors in our sector
@@paumen9330 in the trailer we see lesser daemons of each pantheon so even if it's undivided overall we're still gonna get some spice. Plus drukhari enemies are confirmed too.
I hope it’s more broad than ME systems or Fallout 4’s dialogue “choices “
I'm loving all these juicy reveals about Rogue Trader but I hope Owlcat doesn't forget about Pathfinder! They're still doing that 2nd wave of WotR DLC, right?
Yeah two more to go yet
For the love of the Godemperor, I just hope Owlcat just lets me execute the Eldar companion and snuggle with the Sister of Battle.
@@20storiesunder She hasn't seen my character's "big gun" yet.
Yes to the first no to the second ;)
I like the choice, and playing as evil characters (they are usually more complex and interesting).
But i just hope it'll be possible to ally with the best god, Papa Nurgle.
Yes Inquisitor, this man right here!
@@magatmilan8925 one dose of Nurgle's Rot and your Inquisitor becomes a friendly zombie, that is happy to live, and has a lovely, and caring family, unlike 95% of Imperium.
@@anlak1318
Until Mr Flamethrower puts a stop to that nonsense.
I had the rogue psyker shot. Destroy the heretic, the mutant and the witch!
I'm looking for a video that explains exactly what those three words mean. I'm new to 40k lore, but so far, all the videos I've found assume their viewers already know what they mean. Still, thanks for trying. I think I get it.l
i think this game gonna be the best warhmmer 40k game in past years.
Benevolent, aka the path of Vulkan.
You do remember that he led a legion right? Purged entire species and all that?
@@yaelz6043 Didn't he regret that later? Point is, Salamanders are the ones who do not sacrifice civilians but try their best to save them.
@@LordSerion I don't mean that one instance people meme on. I mean that he heads a legion of genocidal soldiers. He has wiped out countless species and even human worlds that resisted.
If I can't romance the Drukhari, I riot
Nah, if I can't romance the Infernal Enrapturess we saw in the trailer I'm out.
it may also have just been a standard daemonette that happened to be near a Lyre, I didn't check if the lyre was made with human
Do you hear the voices to !
Are these exclusive to each other? Or can you have ranks in all three convictions? I don't like choosing a path but choosing what makes logical sense.
You won't be able to max out all 3, but they aren't exclusive
I’m just a little sad as I’m a console player and have to wait until the console release to play. But I’ll be patient
Yes please, I want to go full chaos
HERESY, YOU MUST BE CLEANSED ! ( Jk mate, have fun!)
Yes inquisitor, this comment right here.
@@imjustsomeguy5048 Make the Emperor Produ, son.
i want to know about belivintia
As a person who has very little experience w/ Warhammer I've only played the X-Com-like "Chaos Gate: Daemon Hunters" and it made me loathe the imperium almost as much as the plague guys so ill probably be going heretic in Rogue Trader...or more likely a mix of heretic and benevolent.
It depends on the point of view.
In warhammer universe, there are no good guys. Only difference is in which evil you choose. Heretic can be someone who is more or less good, or demon worshiping cultist.
There are no good heretics, no matter what foolish drivel they spew, only dead heretics.
@@Fredericco1There are no purely good factions. There are good people. You can be a good person. It’s just probably not going to turn out great for those around you as there’s a good reason the flagship faction are super religious fascists.
Mix of heretic and benevolent? Welcome aboard! Imperial edge-lords and ladies will have their eyes cry blood, and we'll savor their suffering xD
Heresy always ends in having your soul eaten, eventually. Always.
The Imperium isn't evil FOR THE LULZ, it's like that because that's all that they can do.
Being a defender of humanity is a lot like shoveling sh*t from side to side.
There are a lot of poor b-as-tar-ds drowning in it, and they could really use a few folks with shovels.
Keep shoveling or drown. To deny doom as long as possible is a victory all of its own.
Honestly I would prefere the dnd system. Being benevolent chaos worshipper or egoistic loyalist seems more intresting. Also "benevolent " shouldn't be related to your relation with chaos/imperium at all.
I really hope they make chaos corruption a slow and insidious progression rather than bang I'm evil now.
Hello, one of my main concern is if it's going to be fully voiced.
Only major scenes
@Mortismal Gaming thanks for replying I really appreciate it. I really wish the did, sadly that's y I'm still playing pathfinder wrath of the righteous.
So basically it has 3 Mythic Paths you can choose from
Huh? Mythic Paths are a mechanic exclusive to the Pathfinder War of the Righteous Advernture Path (and therefore in the game of the same name as well). They are not a thing in Rouge Trader. Not sure what gave you the impression. If anything, it's comparable to the Paragon System of Mass Effect and similar 'morale systems'. (In quotes, because the system on hand is not based on moral, but rather on belives or 'convictions')
*screams in righteous lawful evil*
The only ship I support is the Von Volcanius flagship!
And also Jae x Argenta god they are so cute together please
Playing the beta as a heretic Kinda sucks you can clearly see that all the cool Chaos companions come in later chapters. Im pretty sure we get a Word bearer Marine as a companion and maybe are able to corrupt most of the others we have. Also we need more marksman comps because argenta is the only one and she is pretty op, so if you want to rp a heretic rogue trader you either play a marksman or have to pass on that class completly so it seems. I hope the heretic playthrough is going to be worked out Well atm most choices are forcing me to either do imperial or good which I think is not cool when you rp a heretic it just feels like getting robbed of personality.
Perhaps but there is a system for non-Deathwatch business in case your Companions met with some painful ends (caused by you and... grisy otherwise stuff, especially Dark Eldar business in Pain) but yea maybe walking too far down a Radical road can feel massive... argument and trouble have started for much less
You going to review Loop 8?
No plans
Im so excited for heretic. I wonder who we can corrupt in the full game and if our Eldari friend can become a Drukhari.
Not really how that works. The Eladrith Ynneas (Dark Eldar) are the way they are (as in, their souls constantly being siphoned) from where they were during the birth of She Who Thirsts. A craftworlder can't "become" one.
Now, if your talking purely about action...that's pretty doubtful but possible.
It would make said craftworlder even more vile than an Eladrith Ynneas if they did the same deplorable things since at least the dark kin do it to stave off soul death.
Drew Carey is in this game? Neat!
@@nirktheman-thingstab-cutterNot strictly true. Any Eldar that falls from The Paths get soul siphoned. That’s literally the reason for The Paths. Without the strict discipline of The Paths Slaanesh can feed on them and corsairs that leave The Path inevitably either rejoin or fall. It doesn’t matter where they were when Slaanesh was born because most of them (especially in the case of Drukhari) weren’t even alive at that time. They’re by-and-large vat grown.
@@AnarexicSumo That must be new lore as that was really not the case in anything I've read.
There are "good guys" in a w'ammer universe game? who'd have thunk it?
What faction and alignment is Cassia of?
Imperial, but she smelling like someone who we are able to corrupt.
@@paumen9330 Thank you. :)
Can you say you expect the game to be as big as wotr, based on how beta is going?
Probably not quite as big just due to there being less classes and character options, but otherwise it'll be a very large crpg yeah
@@MortismalGaming thank you!
Slaaneshi Rogue Trader, here I come.
Would this game be at least a bit easier to get into than pathfinders? Those were way too intimidating for people without prior knowledge of the rule set.
Yeah this will be easier
Is the character mort a coincidence or are they named after you?
They didn't say it was named after me, so I would guess just a coincidence
Going hereticus and want a jerk CSM compaion (preferably Night Lord).
Make Pathfinder, but 40K. Lemme be dat Eisenhorn.
Not sure I like a standard morality system in WH40k. I guess players expect a benevolent play style option, when they pick up a crpg, but trying to get the heretic, the alien and the mutant to get along with an inquisitor or a space marine doesn't really sound like it should be an option.
04:49 What you tryin to say? You not down with the heretics? lol
I hope the limitations don't turn into a Mass Effect Paragon/Renegade scenario. I don't have an issue if your character's REPUTATION influences your Conviction options in certain dialogues, but being railroaded for Persuasion and Choice in general terms by Min/Max approaches is a big negative for me. Despite the Mass Effect trilogy being (probably) my favourite game series, it's the one thing I despised in 2 & 3
Typically you have a set of general options in a situation available to everyone, and then the convictions based on what rank you are open up potential extra paths
@@MortismalGaming Ahh ok, got it. So the convictions aren't NECESSARILY going to be the obvious "best" option in the dialogue?
Mmmm interesting...
I'm early, Morti is nuts.
I dont like dialog option being locked behind a level of something. Having to be like level 3 heretic to use an dialog option which would fit the character you are roleplaying as feels limiting in the roleplay
mercenaries apparently cannot increase their conviction from 15, really lame that they can use items very well
You get a Mechanicys companion so you have to be a *little* heretical sometimes
I mean, there are also an unsanctioned psyker, a navigator and an eldar. I'd never thought I'd say it, but a tech priest us probably not the weirdest one.

Who is that? A Salamander? A Lamenter?
What is this "nice guy" you speak of?

I think I’m just gonna make Ciaphas Cain
My philosophy in RPG's is always "Neutral Evil", Heresy or not, I only care about profit.
This guy is Rouge Trader IRL.
Except "Neutral Evil" is an Imperialis way...
