- Watergate Salad
1 (3.4 ounce) Box Instant Pistachio Pudding
1 (20 ounce) can of crushed pineapple drained with 1/2 cup of juice reserved
1 cup of miniature marshmallows
1 cup if Chopped Pecans
1 small container of cool whip
In a large mixing bowl, stir together drained pineapple, marshmallows and nuts and stir. Add 1/2 cup of reserved juice and stir. Fold in Pudding mix until it's evenly distributed. Fold in coolwhip. Garnish with Chopped nuts and cherry. Chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving. It's best if you make it the day before serving. Flavors get better as they sit. Enjoy!
My grandmother introduced this to our family at Christmas time but she froze it and we sliced it up. Delicious. As a child I had no idea what Watergate was but we looked forward to my grandmother fixing this treat for our family.
Thank you for sharing. I might try to freeze mine❤️
I have made this forever! My kids called it “green gunk” and they loved it 💚💚💚
You don’t have to drain the pineapple. Just dump it all in, it’s perfect every time.
Agree I was saying to myself why are you draining the pineapple
My sister in law used to make this on holidays. My daughter asked for it for Christmas. I'm going to add some cherries, for red and green. We are no longer part of that family, so it's nice to be able to do this for her. Thank you!
Bitter sweet💔
I have been hunting for this recipe for YEARS! My mom and I had it at a family reunion and tried multiple different ways to duplicate it, but we thought she had used lime jello instead of pistachio pudding. Needless to say, we never got it right. My mom is gone now, but I wish she was alive today so I could show her this!
I'm so thankful I coukd help with this. Blessings to you❤
I have this mainly at Christmas, but I'll make several times throughout the year, and especially in the summer! I can eat the whole thing by myself! ☺😋
I'm right there with ya! It's especially good in the hot summertime. So refreshing 🥰
I've always heard that the head chef at the Watergate Hotel in Washington DC created this recipe and put it on the menu there. Later that same hotel became famous because President Nixon. Love your Old Country Roses china pattern. I have the same one and started for my daughters to collect. I've just subscribed because even though I live in Colorado, I know we'd be friends.
Thank you so much for sharing! Finally the mystery is solved! I'll be remaking this video this summer and I'll include what you've told me. Have a blessed day....friend❤️
Good job I'm going to make some today if not today maybe tomorrow it looks yummy yummy😊

I make this during holidays but at CHRISTmas time I use the colored marshmallows and I put in maraschino cherries as well. Love this salad.
Update*** my husband is officially addicted to this recipe now! He is wanting me to make this to send to work with him every time he goes out on the road! Ps...I'm sure enjoying it also!! Thank you so very much!

Why drain the pineapple seen many YT posts they never drain the pineapple I would say there’s no difference in taste
Yum 👏💕👍
Easier to mix entire can of pineapple and pudding together first
It’s one of my favorites!!!💚💚💚
Ours too!!!!
Flaked coconuts
Have to have cherries
Instant or regular pudding
Instant
Add maraschino cherries, chocolate chips, mandarin oranges and almond slivers
I use toasted pistachios
Here's a fun fact for I lived in Lawson Missouri just north of Kansas city. Tell me was I south of the Mason Dixon line?
Okay, so, no pistachios in Watergate salad?
No mam. Only pistachio pudding❤️
Darn I don’t have marshmallows. Is this good to pack in kids lunches?
If it stays cool it would. Kids love it!
I am actually surprised with this recipe you would use any other kind of nut besides pistachio which I think would be good in it since it already has pistachio pudding in it😅
I've wondered that too. Probably because we have lots of pecans in the South❤️
I’m….
Why are calling this Southern? You admitted that it was on the Jello container which was sold all over North America.
Because we Southerners love our Watergate Salad. It's something that's still wildly popular in the souther states. I can't speak for other states. Have a fabulous day!
It's called Watergate because the building where the crime was committed was a greenish color.
How about that! Thank you so much!!!
My mom made it every Thanksgiving and Christmas. It was my favorite dessert as a child
Sweet memories ❤️
Show us how you make your Chicken Salad 😌
This was made at ever family get together. Even funerals . Ive always called it funeral salad. Crazy right ..
This is such a wonderful memory for me as my Grammy and I used to make this as a treat when I spent the night on the weekends. I miss her so much! This is a good pie as well, just put it in a graham cracker crust and chill it overnight : )
I love how food brings back sweet memories. I’ll definitely try your recommendation. Sounds wonderful 🩷
Do you need to let it set before eating? Ty ❤️
It's better if you do😁
