  • I have so many cookbooks with recipes for Watergate Salad (and the many names by which it is known). In this video, I show you how I make Watergate Salad and I explain the variations that you can make to have a recipe that is perfect for your palate and that is truly you're own.
    Here's what I use:
1 jar pineapple (do not drain liquid)
1 box Jello pistachio pudding mix
    1 container Cool Whip
    Marachino cherries
    crushed pecans
Combine all ingredients and refrigerate for at least an hour. To make more decorate before serving, drain some cherries on a paper towel and add to the top and sprinkle on a little bit more crushed pecans.
This is a great recipe for church fellowship meals, family reunions, or anytime.
Here is the chopper I use (made in the USA) amzn.to/3Ps0fQZ

I’m glad some are keeping some of these Id recipes alive.I’ve embraced a more modern style of eating and cooking (to an extent ).
But for some of us, these recipes are what our grandmothers made in our childhood.
I’ll be making this soon . I like it with the grapes added.

Oh, I'm glad you found a video that brings back some memories. That's what it's all about for me! These old recipes have so many memories in them. I just love sharing these with everyone and it's so nice to hear when someone else has tried one of these recipes and remembers their grandmother or their mother or someone making it.

Heavy whipping cream lasts as long as the watergate lasts. I prefer heavy whipped cream

Oh, this is great to know! Heavy cream is more expensive than cool whip so I've never experimented to try to make it work in recipes that call for cool whip. I will have to try that next time I make this. Thank you for the comment on this!

Two boxes of pistachio pistachio pudding would made it look prettier and perhaps added more favor. I have always seen it darker green.

You can also just add some green coloring if you want it darker.

Ever thought of added pistachios on top?

I have heard that some people do that, but I'm such a fan of pecans, I just stick with those! I think it's a great idea, though, and it gives it some extra crunch and color!
