Love the Snake impression! I got this for Christmas in 1990 and have always really liked it. I understand not liking the sidescrolling sections but that shouldn't stop people from enjoying what is a superior game to the first NES game
Thanks! The side scrolling sections were definitely the toughest part of the game. I also struggled a lot with the areas with moving platforms later in the game.
@@Dongled LOL nice. Yeah the second I saw the wig and heard the name, my immediate thought was "oh is he gonna talk about hidden gems?" ... And sure enough
I always enjoyed this game. It *WAS* my favorite NES game as a kid, but over the years some other games have pushed ahead in my list. It did so many cool and unique things compared to the first, and for the system. Without it, I likely wouldn't have been hyped for MGS and who knows if I would have gotten it day one like I did. Your Hayter impression is great, and loved all the YT gags. Great review!
I tried my best to emulate his voice. Glad people liked it! I know a lot of the newer games, and even the originals on the MSX2 are phenomenal, but this one is good too!
Finally someone came out and said it! Snakes Revenge was never a bad game it had more locations, more weapons, better level design, less glitches, better translation (albeit not perfect) a great soundtrack and Metal Gear is in the game! Is the game tough? Sure but nowhere near as brutal as it’s glitchy predecessor. I personally recommend this for any NES collector and for me it’s in my top 10 NES games. Snake’s Revenge is a real action adventure game with a lot of variety.
Well done episode, as always! I, for one, enjoyed the parody as sometimes you need poke fun at stereotypical things on here, something that I guess some commenters didn’t understand here.
Right here is exactly what I look for in a channel and have been trying to do on mine as well. Creative and original review. Your opinions and perspective that shows a passion for the material instead of wiki rehash is what makes it unique. And funny interludes for those of us with short attention spans. This is the first video I’ve seen of yours so far and it’s all it took for me to sub. That and your moving clicky hand on the subscribe banner. Thank you for the work I know it takes to produce something of this caliber. Now I have reason to try this game.
I found this very refreshing. I get how things are, and people change over time, but I sometimes wonder if a lot of content creators have forgotten what brought them to the dance to begin with? This feels a lot more like old UA-cam, when people did it for fun and passion, instead of for profit and some level of fame. I hate to admit it, but I've actually never played a Metal Gear game. I remember a friend of mine had this and the first game and I watched him play it (some of those music tracks I recognized immediately from those days back in the 80s) but I've never played one myself. They all look super interesting through. I often think about getting the PS3 collection version that has this, the original NES game and the MSX original (in English if I'm not mistaken) as well as several of the PS1 and 2 games and just take the plunge into Metal Gear.
That's honestly always been my goal...to make reviews that take the spirit of doing this for the fun of it, not for the money. Any money earned is a bonus and typically just goes right back into the show. The Solid Snake costume used in this video was entirely purchased with Patreon money. I think the MG series is definitely worth experiencing, though I'd honestly suggest starting with the MSX games and then moving to MGS.
The tragic fate of being an enemy npc, getting beat up for your rations, and then finally getting up for it all to happen again! But seriously you really did a good job on this! I kinda wanna give it a try! And that shade thrown to some of the generic practices on UA-cam. My vial of blood should be on the way through mail!
Came back with a really good review! I really liked this game growing up and it was my first Metal Gear game but I haven't really played it since then, I think I might revisit it sometime.
damn man this episode touch my spirit. i let go of making content on my channel when i hit 100k lifetime view through shorts everyday and not make a dime. not even an award by youtube. i forgot i never did it for the money. i let greed kill my passion of enjoying gaming. this episode is differently a hidden gem. its an example of what a youtuber goes through of being themselves and not always feel appeciate by youtube , algo, or the viewers. thank you for this episode. im inspired.
Well done again Mike. I remember picking this game up at a local Zellers around 1998 (yes they still had loose NES carts then, amazing!). I really like the game and thought it was a nice upgrade from the original. The music is so damn good too.
Man, your videos heavily remind me of the golden age (like, 10-15 years ago) of UA-cam game reviewers like the AVGN, HVGN, ProJared and Irate Gamer And that's a great thing! 😁 I've been missing the innocent self-madeness of those times. And I love your UA-cam meta-humor 😆 I had Snake's Revenge as a kid. In my entire childhood I never managed to enter the enemy base (which usually happens in the first five minutes of the game). But yeah, I really enjoyed that jungle part with the spot lights and helicopters...
Sorry to hear you struggled with this game...I admit, I also really struggled with that opening section in the jungle. It was a tough cookie, for sure! That is EXACTLY the era I enjoyed the most from UA-cam, and so my reviews reflect that. HVGN and 16 Bit Gems (and early AVGN and Pat the NES Punk) were big time influences on me. I just try to have fun with it. :) Thanks for watching!
great reivew! That Snake impression is really good actually! I always liked this game, I bought it because of the impressive cover art. The beginning is hard, sometimes I will use a game genie code to half damage taken, that makes it much more playable out of the gate

You keep saying translated but this game never was released anywhere else. I think just trying to write a competent story and getting the details straight was a challenge.
That's a fair point. Grammatically, it wasn't as bad as I FEEL ASLEEP or anything like that. It was developed by a Japanese team who maybe didn't have as good of a grasp on the English language, or on what they were trying to accomplish, story wise.

Well said and summed up! I just don't get why it gets so much hate. Probably just people quoting Kojima previously like I mentioned.
It's a bit ironic that the translation is botched considering this game didn't even release back in japan.
