To be honest, I really dont understand the issue with this, yeah its a minor annoyance maybe but, The Grand Theft Auto collection is the same, Ninja Gaiden collection? Same... And there are more out there those are just the ones that comes to mind!... But yeah, its like... Just download the one your playing first and then delete it and download the other, that way you only see one on the dashboard if its so much of an issue!
I see it for $54 Canadian at this store in Hong Kong that ships internationally. Only thing is, there is that added shipping cost. But at least, there is no sales tax.
@@kyronnewbury Hong Kong eshop is selling it for $400 Hong Kong dollars which is about $70 Canadian. You'd save $20 bucks there. Or $54 Canadian for a physical copy at this store in Hong Kong. Do note that it's the Japanese version of the cart but it is in English as well as Japanese. UA-cam won't let me post the link here for some odd reason so good luck finding it
Indeed. And proper remakes, please, not just emulated old versions. Konami could be doing much more with its back catalog, it's a shame we only get emulation...
Yea that actually would be a good idea as long as they put a luancher instead of wasting space which makes no sense If that’s the case we could just buy these in the store wth 🤦🏻♂️
What I like about this collection is that there's so much to like. Screenplays, Graphic Novels, Soundtracks, Videos. THAT is good. When other games on the Switch have Bonus Content that is separate from the main software, I generally delete it, but this I want to keep. It's VERY good. I wish more games did this. But it's implemented quite poorly together in some areas, which kinda sucks. It's like they ALMOST did it right.
That's fine and good but the games themselves should've been on the cartridge especially since games like final fantasy and megaman battle network collection which all the games and extras are on the cart, this was a lazy port across the board the HD collection is still the better buy
@@skycloud4802 yeah...like the one that was in PS3 legacy collection...took me a time to get one, as my package did not contain one...maybe seller took it out to sell it separate or got lost... Is a cool small booklet with some MGS art and history.
I guess it's nice to be able to play this on the Switch , but I just wish the could have remastered MGS 1 . I still have a PS2 , PS3 , and PS4 so I can play the rest of the titles in the series so I will definitely take a pass on this . At 52 years old that nostalgia bug doesn't bite as hard as it used to .
Eh, totally get your point, but I actually like them individually myself, just looks better organized in a collection folder imo lol . They definitely could have done more, added twin snakes etc, But.. half assed or not for people like me who don't own the physical anymore, it beats nadda lol
Indeed it does. Just make sure you go for the console versions of this collection if you want to buy it now. Otherwise, wait for mods to swarm the PC version because it's super barebones (though I don't regret my preorder!).
I'm just happy we have these games on Switch, period. Sure - it could be better. But the fact that newer generations of gamers can play these classics on current gen consoles is awesome to see. Hopefully Volume 2 is a bit better in terms of presentation, what they include, etc.
Couldn't agreed more. Be happy that we can play these games. Everybody is complaining about graphics and launchers. That wasn't available in that time. It's pure nostalgic to replay these game on our switch. The way of big expectation of the gamers these days are so greedy these days.
@@rubencamps6689 "The way of big expectation of the gamers these days are so greedy these days." You mean the expectation of a *Quality* product for a game that we paid for with our hard-earned money?? Such greed, huh?
@@SynanovaNo I mean people just want better graphics better resolution better gameplay. I agreed that we deserve good quality for our money. But these games were the same quality like they were released what I mean I that people aren't happy anymore and just want more and more. Not meaning on the quality that reason I follow your opinion.
@@rubencamps6689 Totally understandable. If people wanted a remake type of graphics out of a suppositive remaster, then I'm totally on your side because that is unreasonable and not realistic. However, my stance stands on Konami giving a proper quality remastered for any of their games, especially their lead game, Metal Gear. There has already been a test that has stated that the PS3 software emulation version of the game runs better than this collection. And the PS2 and 360 versions have better textures. Truly unacceptable.
@@Synanova I agree, in a lot of ways it is baffling how they are comfortable doing these classic games injustice. You'd think they would want to go above and beyond to show these games some love so people get the absolutely best experience. Personally, I don't mind overlooking some of these problems. I have seen the comparisons of the 360 collection MGS2 tanker hallways vs. how they look in the current collection and ya, there is definitely some hits to the textures and even the colors seem a bit brighter for some reason. But overall it's still the same experience, more or less. It's not like entire assets or sections of the game are missing.
I’m pretty excited for this collection, although agree they could have done more. I only ever played the GameCube version of Metal Gear Solid, and MGS 2 on PS2, so playing the original PSone game will be fun for me, as well as the the really old titles. Of course with all the praise MGS3 gets, I’m super excited to finally experience that one
@@okamic1750Me too. I still got Twin Snakes. Once I played that one, I could never go back to the ps1 version. It didn't age well at all to me. Them graphics are ugly.
@@htxflow same!!! I don’t have a GameCube but I kept some of my favorite GameCube games. Twin snakes, baten kaitos, fire emblem radiance, Metroid 1 and 2, smash, Zelda to name a few. I’d get the collection for $40 maybe. It’s just so dirty they barely loaded the cartridge. A very lazily put together collection but one I want eventually. I am curious to play mgs1, but not enough to pay for it lol. Like RGT mentioned I think I could look past the graphics and enjoy a replay. No doubt it’s ugly by todays standards 🤣 just look at that screen tearing in RGT’s video 🤦🏽♂️
Look I agree that this could have been better but Im just happy they are now accessible on modern platforms so newer players can easily play them. I think this is good for preservation and it would be great if other companies would bring their older games forward like Capcom. I love the Resident evil Remakes but I hate how the original RE2 and RE3 are just left behind. I think capcom could have made some money if they released them right before their remakes released. Edit: And one thing that I actually do Like about this well on PS5 anyway is that MGS1 has Trophies and a platinum. That gives me such a great reason to play it again. Not only that but they even gave the MSX games Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 trophies which I think is awesome
Agreed. I have nothing against the remakes because I really liked them too, but the original Resident Evil 1,2,3 are so special and play differently. I still love playing them today.
@@Ihatevideogames334 you sound like the mf from green eggs and ham lmao but those games are goated they just handled this all wrong it's supported to be about preservation but this version isn't at all
I wish they had the twin snakes in for MGS 1, but nonetheless I am an avid fan of story line and nostalgia and to me this was a great compilation! Will always be a big MGS fan
I wish they included twin snakes. But to be honest, most people have spent the past 19 years trashing that Game, so it's no wonder they didn't include it
@user-op6wo9hx1s people and reviewers tend to heavily bash the game for having over the top cutscene action, and for the new game mechanics making boss fights easier. Never agreed with it, but that has been the online concensus since 2004
Keep in mind that it is not 1080p on Switch in docked. It is 720p internally on all platforms. The 1080p number Konami put out is the output resolution achieved through a basic upscale. You can see the pixel grid in Snakes hair in MGS 2 confirming the 720p number
@@brianharelick4962 It's speculation but I believe it. There's no other reason for 30 fps on the Switch other than it not being powerful enough to emulate the 360 version at full speed.
@@r3tr0sp3ct3r there is literally 0 possibility it is 360 emulation. emulating mgs 3 on 360 requires a top end cpu to touch 60 fps, and the ps5 and series x are locked at it, even at their lower resolution. also, if konami developed a 360 emulator that could run games with next to no bugs and decent performance like this on an ARM chip like the switch, in less then a few years, they'd be some of the most talented developers on the planet. MGS 2 and 3 were already ported to the Tegra X1 hardware through the NVIDIA Shield TV many years ago. I assure you - there is no emulation happening for 2 and 3. It's just not possible.
@@brianharelick4962 Whether it's emulation or not, it's literally the Xbox 360 version of the HD Collection. The fact that Switch doesn't hit 60 fps is pathetic.
For those wanting a upscaler use in combo the mclassic & 4kgamer pro. You will be amazed on how the games will look. Sometimes putting the game on 1080p makes it better looking than putting the native 720p setting which works as well so each game you will need to find out which to set the setting when using the upscaler together. Tips is if you see a crisp sharper look then that the setting resolution that will look better.
Thanks for this review. I appreciate your take on these for the Switch and was contemplating how bad a 30fps for these games would be (with MGS 2 being the only game that is technically a downgrade fps wise from the orginal PS2 release). Since MGS1 and MGS3 were 30 fps originally; I guess you could say havjng MGS2 at 30fps, can be a consistency choice of being in line with the rest. Still no excuse and I will pick this collection up on sale.
Framerate doesn't matter if the game plays well, and in this case, it plays just fine. 30 fps is passable. But these are HD remasters that appeared on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, which is unnecessary. I can give Konami credit for actually porting the games to the Switch natively, not like Square Enix in which they brought Kingdom Hearts to the Switch as a cloud game.
Before firmware version 8.0.0 could have been 9.0.0, collections had to have a launcher After the firmware version, multi game cards were also supported, where an extra launcher is no longer necessary but can simply be on the card and displayed as individual games in the switch menu
Bought mine yesterday, love it, the master books and digital novel are the cherry on top, 60$ for 3 games with great replayability, they arent upgraded versions or anything but they look and play just as good as the originals
Twin Snakes is kind of silly, but I really wish it were in the collection. For someone who never has played the original game, it might be the better option.
I played twin snake and yeah some of the cut scene additions were dumb but the upgrade in graphics and controls make it worthy to be ported and played. I was really disappointed it wasn’t included since it’s finally on a Nintendo platform which Nintendo has the rights for it. Maybe one day someone will make it happen.
I think it really depends what you're after with this one. If you only have a switch and nostalgia for the old games its worth buying if only second hand. If you wanted an upgrade this clearly misses the mark . Good summary as always from rgt I think overall.
"Why Konami Pushed Hideo Kojima Out of The Company" by ThatGuyGlen Simple summary: Konami focus is no longer on PC or console games. That vid has stuff up to 7m39 where mobile gaming was perceived as high Returns on Investment, and other details. After that timestamp, theres the new Prez of Konami Digital Entertainment and various other things mentioned.
I think it's a great concept to bring a series like this to current or close to that. I'm a huge metal gear fan and have been playing them since the 1st one on nes. From what you are saying, digital download sounds like the best bet for money. I'll always be a physical collector no matter what but what can you do at this point. I wonder if the ps5 version has the 60 fps? That i might get physically but for the switch, it's portable and you can play on the go, ect. Great and honest review as always 🎃
@@Vinylkatzethats not true at least not for MGS 2 and 3. You get 60fps on PS5 and xbox series s/x at 1080P. Switch has also full HD docked but only at 30fps. 720p in handheld mode.
I didn't know this came out yet but I'm definitely getting it. I have very fun nostalgic memories especially with metal gear solid 2 But I'm also curious about the 8-bit metal gears I really want to try those
I bought just MGS3 for $20 and having never played it before I’m really enjoying it and it doesn’t seem far off graphically from the RDR port so I really have no complaints cause I’m also replaying that game on the switch very happily as well.
It doesn’t surprise me that Konami put little effort into these ports for these old metal gear games. When fans do a better job at preserving these old metal gear games that’s just sad. Not buying this garbage port job.
The most egregious part is how crappy the box art is. Someone let the intern loose and they did a terrible job. Still got it because I have a massive mgs collection (over 400 items), but it was a really sad release.
I agree about the first Metal Gear! They could've polished the game up just a bit. It does look choppy and they could have gave it HD graphics and you know they could but they decided not too but, I will still play it. I played it on the PS before and I've enjoyed it so, I will stll enjoy playing it again. As for 2 & 3, I see no problems with it like you said. The graphics aren't that bad but I do agree that they could have upped it in the framerate a bit more but it still looks good even thought they didn't. I am getting the physical copy from Gamefly so I can't wait for it to come in so I can start playing.
Thanks for this review. I only have a Switch and it sounds like these will play well when and if I decide to start going through them. I actually missed the Metal Gear craze so I’ve never actually played any of them outside of the original NES game.
I'd heard folks dogging on this collection but it seems just fine. I love that it looks like the 'director's cut' versions of MGS/MGS2 with the extra content are included which is nice. I'm a little curious to see if they updated anything on NES MG1 but I don't know if I'd care enough to play all the way through it... but I appreciate them including it. so may have to pick this one up soon!
can always stick them in a folder if anyone even remembers or uses this feature, im ocd so, I have to go outta my way to use them considering they aren't made super easy to access.
Mgs2 and 3 don’t work at all on steam deck. So I refunded them. I may get them on switch at some point if it doesn’t get proper steam deck support but as it stands I don’t think Konami deserves your $60 for how little effort they unsurprisingly put into this.
Genuinely curious - does anyone enjoy having the soundtracks/music player in a game? Like, when are you loading up a game, and Just using the music player? I wish all games that did this just offered a mp3 album instead
I know it’s not an ideal port. But I’ve been waiting for a very long time to play these games again. I’m excited to pick this up….. once I finish the 4 other games I’m in the middle of right now 😂
I’m kinda glad they didn’t go with too many graphical upgrades where we got something like the GTA trilogy. I like that it’s mostly in its original form, but kinda sucks it’s like a little worse than original hardware. Overall I’m just happy to have the game on switch.
@@mattyork7625 remaking silent hills without team silent just feels wrong. I'm sure it'll be a good game, but why mess with games people say are perfect as they are.
@@pilotmemesit’s just gonna be a new way to experience it. As a die hard silent hill 2 I’m exciting for a new spin on it. I still have silent hill 2 on ps2 I can play whenever. They need to port it tho because the first 4 silent hill games on ps2 are all over 100$ now
I never got to play MGS3 and so I just bought that one on Steam. At first I hated it but once I got used to the game play I fell in love with it. My first play through was almost 26 hours long. My second play through was 8 hours.
Very good review! I also grew up with MGS series and my first was MGS1 on PS1. I plan to get these on Switch even with the flaws because I am also a Nintendo fan and I always wanted to play MGS2 in a Nintendo platform. I also think that the games loading up separately is better because it will have their individual playtimes on my Switch!
You'd think they would at least tried some touch controls for MGS2/MGS3 on Switch like the Vita version. I honestly was a little disappointed about that. But I am glad the start menu on MGS3 and the codec screens on MGS2 load faster than the previous collection on ps3/xbox/vita
Thanks for putting this honest review up. Everyone else’s review just pointed out the graphics and that’s it. Good to know that I can play all three solid games and it will be a “Solid” play through
Think I’ll pick this one up on the PS5 instead of the switch. For that price, think I would like the 60fps but the portability of the switch is tempting!
The differences is that you have all games on the disc on PS5, but iirc MGS1, 2, 3 and the extras are downloaded to the system and require the disc to play. I think the same is on Xbox Series X
The image looks soft because it’s actually 720p upscaled to 1080p. You are better off setting your switch to 720p and use an external upscaler to achieve a sharper image.
I gotta say, as a life long MGS fan this product is kind of a let down. I'm happy its all there to play on modern systems but they could of invested a bit more in upscaling the graphics on them all. The 50Htz is also a little weird. But the one thing that bugged me was that the best Metal Gear Track (in my opinion) "The Best is Yet to Come" track is missing from the Track list in MGS1. It all feels like lukewarm haha glad its available for all, but they could of done a lot more to make this the definitive way to play MGS1-3 and charge more for it and I would of been happy paying full price. Rant over.
Its a chance to play some of the greatest games ever made on a modern console. Sure they could have done a lot more, but bottom line is these are must play classic games that everyone needs to try out at some point. No need to go out and buy an old console and the original games. They were good enough then, so still good enough now
Yesterday I was playing a little bit, and I really liked it. Actually I like more it comes in differents apps icons, this means you can separate the content in different sd cards, also you could download only the 3 main games and leave the additional content out. Now about the things a didn’t liked, the missing filter options for metal gear solid (psx), but the good thing it runs exactly as the original and it fills the screen completely, there are black bars at the side, but not like ff7 that was much more smaller, good thing the completely fill the screen. For mg2 there is a little bit slowdown outside the boat with the rain, also there is something strange with the videos, because is raining most of the boat section, looks like the screen is flashing a lot, so you cannot see clearly, like the alone in the dark, for Wii I think, there is a button for closing your eyes, they start getting dry and start getting an effect of blur, I feel something like that, like a blur effect. But inside the boat it works perfectly, so actually you are out of the boat just like 5 mins. And for mg3 I just feel like the ps2 game, it works and feel the same, so I have no complains about this game. I am so glad it comes both nes games, I know people say they are horrible, but I played the first nes game long time ago and think is not bad. Probably my most complaint, is why the 3 main games are not inside the cartridge? They could do it for ninja gaiden, this games where for the Xbox and Xbox 360 and the three games are inside the cartridge. So the cartridge is just the key for the digital version to work, if you put the cartridge and have no internet you cannot play nothing and do nothing. So in the future when the eshop closses, this game will not work. But let’s be honest, I have like 500 games in my shelf I haven’t played, pikmin 1 & 2, pikmin 4, dragon quest the adventure of dai, persona 5 royal, I have yet so much back log of games I haven’t played, probably I will play 1 last time each game. So I will play the complete saga in chronological order, that’s what I am going to do, I think the first one is metal gear V, and I haven’t even played that game. Also I am a bit angry the mini games from substance and subsistence are not in here, the skating mini game and the snake vs monkey, so I went to look info about these, I had no idea the monkey games are exclusive games of the psx, and the skating game is based from a ps game so that’s why it is not included, but everything else is in here. So in the end I liked the collection, I am glad I bought on the switch. I don’t see the point buying on ps5, I still have my ps3 and I have the hd collection game, and the virtual console metal gear for ps1, ps3 also have wireless controllers, the only difference is the more powerful console, but I have noticed the more power the more ugly it looks, because you can notice the small technics the programmer used to get some effects, maybe there are some leafs hanging from a tree so you cannot see the button of a tree, but now you can see so clear these leafs now looks very ugly, this kind of things happens.
They really should have put the GBC game on their as well… It wouldn’t have hurt them. But maybe it’s coming with a digital download or with a PSP collection, who knows. Also it would be nice to see the Twin Snakes rereleased.
If this compilation came out with metal gear 4, I would have picked this up day one. however, without it, I may get it eventually, but no rush. never had the chance to pick up mgs4.
They missed out on a mgs5 switch port as well as a mgs4. My guess for mgs4 is that it is more towards the end of the storyline for the whole metal gear saga the only way to keep interest with little effort is to pump out port after port after port. I'm not complaining that companies like Capcom have ported old versions to the console, it makes sense since it's not a powerhouse that getting ports from older gens is common. Buying metal gear like 6 times would annoy anyone though LOL (ps2, ps vita, 3ds, switch,Xbox 360, ps3, etc)
I didn't want to pick up the game on switch because of the bad reviews but I'm so glad I did. Being able to play this on a handheld is so clutch. The only thing bad about the game is it makes me feel old because I'm reliving my childhood lol I can't wait for the snake eater remake.
1:20ish I'm actually glad they did it this way, I much prefer a single interface for all of my games and collections over each game collection having its own launch app.
Question about the controls. How are the gun mechanic controls (specifically the pressure sensitive button decompress to lower/shoot the weapon). That was one of my biggest gripes about getting back into the game, especially with MG2 and the need for collecting dog tags. When you pull your weapon out and aim, do you have the ability to lower the weapon without pulling the trigger? Hope this makes sense. Thank you!
Not sure about switch but this was changed on the 360 version which i believe its the same controls for this one. Click left stick to just aim guns and click again to stop aiming (or run on MGS 2). I believe you can stop aiming by clicking the stick if you used the weapon button (the button you use to fire and grab people), but has been a while since i played the 360 version. I believe the coolant is now tied to the right stick. Silting throat's for MGS3 is now triangle/Y or double click the left stick quickly.
About mgs ps1 I probably don't speak for a lot of people but personally as a newcomer I'd like to experience the game as closely to the original as possible. So, I tend to prefer ports over remakes, terrible controls and graphics & all. This applies to the paper mario and mario rpg remakes too, the remakes look great but I wish they'd at least port them because it's pretty much near impossible to experience the original without emulation.
So I bought metal gear solid when it came out on Playstation years ago and it was one of the best games I had ever played so I pre-ordered the master collection and once I got it up and going it was the same classic feeling I had originally... I'm satisfied but I'm a true Fan...
Been playing Sonic Superstars ..so much fun bro ..This is definitely next im poppin in ..I saw a clip of the new one too from watching the XBOX trailers..and wow.. super hyped
This is my first time playing Metal Gear Solid 1 and I'm loving, after previously only having played MGS5 on PS4 really enjoying delving into these classic games. MGS1 was clearly so far ahead of its time I feel it still holds up pretty well for its age, especially the voice acting and cutscenes, I'm super impressed. While I get the switch version may not be the best, I'm not too bothered at the moment having nothing to compare to.
It sucks because Konami probably didn't even want to make this. They tried abandoning western fans for easy profit of Old Japanese business men and it failed, now they have to actually be assed to make games, but even something as simple as a remaster is too much for them because, as stated earlier, they just wanted easy money.
Konami at this point just has a lot of old IPs that are pretty popular but doesnt seem to have the programming talent to put out anything other then quick ports or some twisted reimagining of old IPs, i.e. Bomberman R or Contra Rogue Corps.
@@pilotmemes that affected Konami for sure but Kajima was probably a slightly bigger loss but only slightly as Team Silent was also integral to Konami’s success.
it is, there will be tons of fans that go tHAt iS noT CanNonnnz ...but neither are the NES games that were included. Not to mention Kojima himself has flip flopped on Twin Snakes many times because it was a decent attempt for what it is. The voices and scenes were also even used in MGS4 over the ps1 original. (tho so glad the flashblack/emulated scene was original PS1 in that game!) A real fan of Metal Gear Solid would know that Twin Snakes Is more like playing Raiden's thought of what "In the darkness of Shadow Moses" was all about. That's why some of the Snake scenes are over the time, looking like a glorified action hero almost. It's Raiden's VR perspective of it all pre-Sons of Liberty. Yes, I look at Twin Snakes as an amazing VR/Alt mission, this is how I cope with it being a great game and being kind of like the original, but also nothing like the original MGS PS1 game. The devs did a good job for its time, taking the MGS2 engine and throwing Shadow Moses story into it. Twin Snakes rules. WAHHH cut scenes are like matrix wahhhhh....now that you know it's more like a re-telling / Raiden training style, oh now it's the coolest game ever. Take the Twin Snakes pill lmao
The thing about Twin Snakes is that game was done by Silicon Knights, the studio behind Eternal Darkness Sanity’s Requim. So Konami would have to deal with licensing and paying more people things like that.
I'm fine with the janky ps1 visuals of MGS (although I think they should have at least given the option for upscaling, like the Halo remaster). They should really do the Silent Hill games for Switch after this, though if they released the HD collection versions of 2 & 3 i'd probably just go for the 1st game. Also, unrelated, but Vagrant Story. Why does nobody demand a remastering of that!?!
Why would they not have just ported over Twin Snakes? Also, how’s the fight with Psycho Mantis on Switch and how do you swap over so he can’t read your mind?
Not sure what the controls are for switch but ps5/xbox is push L1/LB and R2/RB at the same time to open an menu you use to create an fake memory card the he can read and change controllers.
@@ChrisSantino I read about that. Interesting that they included that. If only the graphics were cleaned up a bit. I played it last night with filters and through my dev kit emulator and it looked better than what the Master collection gave us.
@@Alien_isolationist the graphics looked better so to me that’s a plus. Idk what reasons you have with it but it’s better than the Master Collection graphics.
@@fightrudyfight5799 Less to do with the graphics and more to do with the scaling and filters they used. Honestly i find the super sharp and crisp graphics through an emu looks just as bad as playing in native 240p with no filters, i prefer an middle ground.
RGT, I won't call you a simp for Metal Gear but I'll call you a BETA (in a Jesse Lee Peterson voice)! I just wouldn't waste my money on a game that isn't full on cart, full of bugs. MGS 1 drops to 20fps in some instances. No 60FPS when a decade ago the 360 was doing it just fine?! Why are the file sizes for twenty-plus-year-old games this huge? Konami does everything half fast! Why does the game have a content warning? These games didn't have any crazy stuff. I swear it's 1984 in every way. Gone with the Wind needs a content warning as people don't know slavery is bad. And you take away the first black academy award (which stood for something back then).
I absolutely love these games. I haven’t played them since they came out. I will definitely be picking this up. That being said I will be waiting for a sale.
People complaining about pointless crap like this is why companies are afraid to actually do what the fans want. Because when they do you find any reason to complain. Just enjoy that they're keeping a great franchise alive so you don't have to pay an arm and a let for a retro game. Gamers are gonna ruin things by being too picky and not showing appreciation for the games they claim to love...
Well like I commented in the previous video, the cartridge is still superior over the digital only version. It's a game key and you can always lend it to a friend or sell it afterwards and it'll still work, the digital version is bound to your profile. To the collection itself, I knew what I was buying and I'm happy with it. I've played MGS1 but never owned it, I had MGS2&3 for the PS2 but never had the Substance and Subsistence versions. I never had the Metal Gear 1&2 games. When they did the HD Collection on the PS3 I wasn't much interested since it wasn't much better, I wanted the PSVITA version to at least play it in handheld. The downside was, the Vita version lacked content and while I was thinking of buying or not buying it was quickly sold out and most people want ridiculous money for their caseless bubblegum spit on versions of the Vita game because it's kinda rare. With this release I got a handheld version with all the content plus extra. Sure Konami could have done something with the games, they always looked blurry especially MGS3 but it's Konami. Never expected anything and you're not going to be disappointed. Unfortunately the question about MGS Twin Snakes is still unresolved but I hope we'll eventually get it in another collection. So for me this version was worth it but I do feel sorry for people on the platform like the PS5. They deserved better with the power of PS5. 😉
Agree. If we are heading toward a digital only world, they better implement rewritable physical key. If I have a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe physical key, all my DLC bought history should be in that key and I shouldn't have to buy them again on the next next next gen console or something. Even if they make new DLC for old game but on the next gen, then I should be able to have the bought history updated on that physical key. Game industry really need to think this through if they don't want the majority of gamers to wait for a huge discount every time a new game come out.
Solid review… Idk if you do review the game and record your voice at the same time but it’s nice to see you still be in synch of the gameplay while explaining your opinion.

No launcher for the games was immediately the first thing that annoyed me. I was hoping for a cowabunga collection type of launcher.
No launcher shows that they put in the least amount of work and effort possible in the lead up to this release. Hard pass.
It’s really remarkable just how little effort they put into this and still expect full price
Think Konami bosses would have said let’s not mess this up. Fix it before release make it HD QUALITY let’s get new fans.
I know right? The Castlevania collections are nice and neat on the Switch homescreen.
I like having each game separated.

Part of the problem, but I'll be part of the solution. I'll be a pirate on this one😅
naww bruh $80 is too low for this masterpiece. it should be $80 per game.

Shame didn't release a physical booklet. That would have been nice.
That's fine and good but the games themselves should've been on the cartridge especially since games like final fantasy and megaman battle network collection which all the games and extras are on the cart, this was a lazy port across the board the HD collection is still the better buy

@@graphosencrenoir4006 speaking of art books and old manuals, I wish Tomb Raider Remastered Trilogy had them too. I've really missed that there.
I guess it's nice to be able to play this on the Switch , but I just wish the could have remastered MGS 1 . Indeed it does. Just make sure you go for the console versions of this collection if you want to buy it now. Otherwise, wait for mods to swarm the PC version because it's super barebones (though I don't regret my preorder!).
@@JdogtoocoolProbably not and I doubt Mgs master collection volume 2 will be on switch because MGS4 and MGS5 are rumored to be in volume 2.

Love that 50HZ PAL version of MGS for just a bit of extra chug playing that version. Really the cherry on top of a completely phoned in job.
I played twin snakes almost if not as much as the original. I’m super sad they didn’t give any love to MGS1 😢

Keep in mind that it is not 1080p on Switch in docked. It is 720p internally on all platforms. The 1080p number Konami put out is the output resolution achieved through a basic upscale. You can see the pixel grid in Snakes hair in MGS 2 confirming the 720p number
Because it's lazy emulation of the HD Collection on Xbox 360
@@r3tr0sp3ct3r it's not emulator it's a straight port
Konami being Konami... I hope people dont eat this up so we can make game companies care about the quality of their products for once
The Switch version could and should have been 60fps easily and to make matters worse is neither Metal Gear Solid 1,2 and 3 are on the cartridge.
Before firmware version 8.0.0 could have been 9.0.0, collections had to have a launcher
After the firmware version, multi game cards were also supported, where an extra launcher is no longer necessary but can simply be on the card and displayed as individual games in the switch menu
I always hear people say this about Twin Snakes. But then I remember Vamp running on water.
Twin Snakes is obviously the better game, not incorporating it was a bad choice. Otherwise i would hae bought it.
I think it really depends what you're after with this one. If you only have a switch and nostalgia for the old games its worth buying if only second hand. If you wanted an upgrade this clearly misses the mark . Good summary as always from rgt I think overall.
I only have a Switch and I still don’t plan on buying this lazy cash grab port.

Can’t go wrong with Metal Gear Solid 3
That was Kojima’s thing: unconventional controls. He wanted to make a voice controlled game at one point, and even did it a bit with PT.
For the switch, they should've included the twin snakes
I knew you would be back, that's my Nintendo boy
I gotta say, as a life long MGS fan this product is kind of a let down. I'm happy its all there to play on modern systems but they could of invested a bit more in upscaling the graphics on them all. The 50Htz is also a little weird. But the one thing that bugged me was that the best Metal Gear Track (in my opinion) "The Best is Yet to Come" track is missing from the Track list in MGS1. It all feels like lukewarm haha glad its available for all, but they could of done a lot more to make this the definitive way to play MGS1-3 and charge more for it and I would of been happy paying full price. Rant over.
The Legacy Collection on ps3 is still the definitive remaster

@@Existing_Echo If you like buying physical games at full price with 80% of the content being digital. Good for you.
It's quite good running 30fps in switch you get more than 5 game's play it on the the go
If this compilation came out with metal gear 4, I would have picked this up day one. however, without it, I may get it eventually, but no rush. never had the chance to pick up mgs4.

Wish I could give you a thousand thumbs up. This is my exact concern as well
Imagine if you got the actual games with the "physical release". Day one purchase.
I bought it with that in mind. I feel robbed. MGS1 doesn't even have an HD patch release. In 2023!
Not sure if it would help you out, but the mini SNES has a port of super mario RPG on there!
So I bought metal gear solid when it came out on Playstation years ago and it was one of the best games I had ever played so I pre-ordered the master collection and once I got it up and going it was the same classic feeling I had originally... I'm satisfied but I'm a true Fan...
Meant to be played on PlayStation
Been playing Sonic Superstars ..so much fun bro ..This is definitely next im poppin in ..I saw a clip of the new one too from watching the XBOX trailers..and wow.. super hyped
Why can't the switch play a PSII game at 60 FPS? That sounds like a programming issue to me.
They be making these games in 60 fps on the switch 2. So you feel an upgrade once you have the switch 2
@@philipvalenzuela4969exactly makes sense. Here’s hoping 🤞🏻
Kinda makes you wonder who put the work in for the tmnt cowabunga collection
Konami at this point just has a lot of old IPs that are pretty popular but doesnt seem to have the programming talent to put out anything other then quick ports or some twisted reimagining of old IPs, i.e. Bomberman R or Contra Rogue Corps.
Sad but true, the old Konami is no more and when Kajima left Konami died with him.
@@Adamtendo_player_1 I think losing team silent hurt them pretty bad too
@@pilotmemes that affected Konami for sure but Kajima was probably a slightly bigger loss but only slightly as Team Silent was also integral to Konami’s success.
I'm getting sick of the remastered then charging full price
The fact they didn’t include Twin Snakes with this collection is criminal.
This. That was a huge step up from the original and it blows my mind they went with OG MGS instead of Twin Snakes. Doesn't make sense to me at all.
it is, there will be tons of fans that go tHAt iS noT CanNonnnz ...but neither are the NES games that were included.
Twin Snakes sucks. Don't fucking need it.
@@tapetwo7115too long, didnt read
Twin Snakes was a crap remake for many reasons that's why.
I dont have the games yet but i have seen numerous vids on ppl playing the xbox version (the one i will be getting later) on my 4k with 4k vid quality and doesnt look too bad. Honestly i find the super sharp and crisp graphics through an emu looks just as bad as playing in native 240p with no filters, i prefer an middle ground.
Yeah, but them Konami terms and conditions though! That thing was a fascinating read!
JLP 😂😂😂
I don’t know why my previous comment was deleted 🙄 whatever. At least the series is on modern systems now.
It was Shenton I swear😂
“At least the worst versions of great games are on Switch, as a decaying corpse of once incredible pieces of art”
Tbh i dont care if there isnt any new things i just wanna play msg on my nintendo
480K 👍🏼👍🏼 you can do it to 500K!
Man I honestly appreciate your review videos I’m sold I’m Fina definitely purchase this weekend!
Yall buying it 😂 me running em all in a emulator
I absolutely love these games. I haven’t played them since they came out. I will definitely be picking this up. That being said I will be waiting for a sale.
People complaining about pointless crap like this is why companies are afraid to actually do what the fans want. Because when they do you find any reason to complain. Just enjoy that they're keeping a great franchise alive so you don't have to pay an arm and a let for a retro game. Gamers are gonna ruin things by being too picky and not showing appreciation for the games they claim to love...
I'm mainly a Switch user , but I had to get this for PlayStation out of principle.
30fps??? A big NO for me. It plays better on my Nokia N95
Also there should be a code in the box for downloading an additional 3 songs to the bonus content.
You're welcome.
Solid review…
Idk if you do review the game and record your voice at the same time but it’s nice to see you still be in synch of the gameplay while explaining your opinion.
if konami won't put in the effort, i'm not gonna put in the cash. at least, not at full price.
RGT, You truly are.
The truest Nintendo fan of Nintendo with your Nintendo oriented channel lo.
Final Fantasy pixel remaster is the same way. Six separate games that take up your whole home screen.
Yay another UA-camr person here to comment on something new telling their audience what they should do or not do with their money as they recommend their terrible sponsors and tell you to smash that like button. The cycle of unoriginality continues on UA-cam. Let's also do another super wide eyeball open stance in our thumbnails cause we're all Kevin smith now too.
