I was heavily cross shopping C5 FRC's, notchback Fox's and S52 M roadsters last fall. The economy was rocky and uncertainty was in the air at the time, and none of the vette or fox guys wanted to negotiate whatsoever on price, so I flew to New Orleans and bought a near mint Estroil blue M roady with 89k and took a 1000 mile vacation on the way home. I've had many old school bimmers, so I took to it right away. I did really want to try an american sports car, but in the end it is yet another old bmw in my garage.
Good question. The steering on the BMW is certainly more precise, and it really feels like a scalpel. You can accurately point that car into a turn with very little effort. The vette is great in that regard as well, the BMW is just slightly sharper. In terms of suspension the BMW seems to have a slightly better ride quality surprisingly, but it's hindered by its seats which are quite hard. As far as rattles in the interior from the suspension, the bmw is much tighter with a better build. The c4s rattled new, but that's part of the charm :)
Nice video.. I've got a Lt4 highly modified..it makes 460hp to the wheels.it's very clean..it gets way more looks than my friends c6.. everyone who asks about it all say the same thing..there's not many modified C4 out there..but like you said it's flexy..the BMW definitely looks great..I bet it fun on a mountain road
Both are so good, but in regard to power.. Definitely easier to get power from the vette. I'd take a 460whp modded LT4 over a C6 as well. The base C6 cars are good for sure, but I guess I like the oddball stuff.
The only roadster with a V8 option was a Z8, and they are biiiiig money relative to these cars. I haven't looked lately, but some examples are well into 6 figures! Thanks for watching!!
Good comparison between two cars. I would have to say that the Corvette is the "mustard" and the BMW is playing "catchup". They both have their place on the bun. Which one do you put on the bun first? Do you always put the catsup on first or the mustard? Either way it makes for a better hotdog in my kitchen. Enjoy both of them because they complement each other and you're not "married" to either one, so have some domestic one day and some import the next. Just having fun because that's what these cars are about. They're no longer "status symbols" or expensive "arm candy". They are fun cheap dates or condiments added for flavor to your life. Just having fun, because that is what this is ALL about.
Yeah we definitely like the same kinds of cars and for similar reasons. Just got back from taking the long way to eat dinner and home, to drive a little longer, it's a fun car. Plus a guy parked next to me liked it and wanted to check it out because he's always wanted a Corvette. So it was fun showing him the car. Showed him how easy the targa top comes out and stores in the hatch. He was surprised at how simple and clean the engine looks because there really aren't a lot of hoses and vacuum lines going all over. Actually the C5 has 1200 fewer parts than a C4. Just stripped down basic Vette. Bare bones base model. Thanks Matt.
I love the coupe M Z3!! And they are definitely not cheap! Not even close but that being said I'd still rather have my corvette! And I can't stand the guys who think just because it has a LT4 and the grand sport logo on the throttle body plate that it's a grand sport!! I pulled next to a guy with on a black one and told me it was a grand sport and I just looked over the car like ok dude!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
@mattquerio if we were standing around talking, I would have informed him, but we were sitting next to each other at a stoplight. I actually didn't even know that was a thing until it happened to me. I had no idea people didn't know. I'm fanatic, though the 96 grand sport is my favorite corvette period.
@mattquerio do all LT4 cars come with 315s in the back or was that just the grand sport? Actually I know the answer to this... lol sorry the grand sport has the fender flares to cover the wide tire
I would pick the LT4 corvette. Looks better and puts down the power. Never been a BMW fan. Always loved hammering the BMW boys when I had my 93 LT1 Formula Firehawk # 118, 6 spd. She dynoed 309 rwhp after mid length headers and tune. It’s on my channel. Used to tear up the early and mid year 2000s , Z4s, 330i’s and 540i ‘s in the mid 2000s . They would always start it and the Firehawk would make short work of them. Mostly 0-70 mph races then I would let off , but got in a few roll races from 50-60 mph on. The 540i was quicker than the other BMW models but their 288 flywheel hp V8 wasn’t enough. The 96 LT4 corvette was a beast in its day and still not slow today. I figure my Firehawk with mid length headers and tune at 309 rwhp is probably what a stock LT4 would put down at the wheels , maybe even a few more hp than 309. Depends on the altitude and type of dyno. All my dyno runs were on a dyno jet .
If you're drag racing soley, the vette is definitely the choice! I would agree in that regard. If you're simply looking to row gears on back roads, it gets trickier to decide :)
I can see that logic. Overall it is a cheaper car to keep on the road. Thank you for chiming in, and watching!!! Subscribe for more if you aren't already!
Lt4 but you gotta love the m roadster
I think the LT4 is my favorite too, but it's so hard to compare them fairly.
I love both of those cars, but I've been a Corvette fan boy from day 1, so Corvette, all day.

There are a lot of fun cars in this range if you look, but I think you make a good call. The M is plenty fun, and makes great noise with an exhaust.
How about the steering , suspension.

Great info ! Is the little BMW w/ V8 a option or a lot more than 15k ??
The only roadster with a V8 option was a Z8, and they are biiiiig money relative to these cars. I haven't looked lately, but some examples are well into 6 figures! Thanks for watching!!
@@mattquerio Z8 yes that's the one & looks similar to yours. (Both ur cars are beautiful) I couldn't remember name but reminded me of Cobra w/airbag
I very much agree. The Z8 is the cobra 427 formula. The Z3M is closer to a 260 or 289 cobra.
@@mattquerio your blessed. Thank u for sharing the car thing ✌️ rip Shelby

Man, extremely well put. We must be brothers from another mother. I literally couldn't say it better myself!

I'm jealous of how easy your targa comes off. Lol.
The 1996 lt4 Corvette look better❤❤❤❤❤
By far❤
I can't deny that the C4 is still a looker. I drive past windows in town, and catch myself looking at the reflection. Especially with the targa off.

I cannot tell you how many times I had to disappoint a LT4 owner and tell them their car isn't a grand sport 🤣

Yep, only grand sports. You got it. Base cars had 285s on the rear, 255 on the front. Z51 cars had 275 square.
@mattquerio idk mine comes with 275s at all corners but no Z51. Mine is also a 92.

@@mattquerio agree 💯
Vette all day
That is the consensus!
The Vette is due to the cost and ease of maintenance. However, BMW is way nicer 😉
I can see that logic. Overall it is a cheaper car to keep on the road. Thank you for chiming in, and watching!!! Subscribe for more if you aren't already!
Would you happen to need an unprofessional racing driver to give a driving test?
If I ever need a Randy Pobst, it will be you bro. Lol.
C4 all day. WAY more hair metal vibes
🫡🫡🫡 damn right.
Cue the quiet riot.
