Once again Matt is on point. I live in NJ and have 2 kids who play hockey and have a long commute. I drive 30,000 miles a year and I’d say I “half daily” my LT4. I put on 15,000 miles a year, take it to Costco, work, concerts, camping trips, even take one kid to hockey practice and games. It is easily one of the most reliable, enjoyable and versatile 2 seater sports cars. I even put my bicycle in the rear with ample room for other stuff. In comparison you can’t even fit a single golf bag in a 2024 corvette.
Nj here too. Me and my girlfriend both have a 95. 10 thousand a year on one and 7 to 8 thousand a year on the other. Ones a convertible. Two fiero seats will fit in the back of the coupe. Sold them to this guy and he wanted me to deliver them and meet at the mall so I took the vette. When he asked what car I would be in and I told him he couldn't believe it. When I seen him and gave him the seats I told him this is a working vette! 😂
Florida owner here, dailied my 85 for about 2 years, was awesome. Relatively reliable with minor issues, i will say i do all the work on my car, which does save tons on repairs.
People don't realize how comfortable these are. They are truly a great comfortable, livable car. And I agree, doing your own maintenance and minor repairs saves a bundle.
Daily driving my 91 6-speed in Mississippi. I’m a car guy so I do have other stuff in my fleet, but my 91 is so comfortable and fun to drive. Favorite car so far in my 46 years on earth.
The 91's have a really nice seat design too, I haven't sat in them but they look extra comfortable. I've had C4's from 1985 to 1996, and they have all have some of the most comfortable seats in any car, let alone a sports car. They really let you soak up the miles. A 1991 6 speed is a great one. One I'd love to own, because you have the good ZF 6 speed, and you've got the last 350 TPI that makes absolute gobbbbbbs of torque right off idle. That must be a blast!
@@casmithc2just bought an 84 for 2k, runs and drives great. Only issue is the Overdrive and Reverse does not work at all so it’s cheaper for me to just 6 speed swap from a later c4 than to fix the OD
The gas mileage is actually really good for the type of car. I get 17 miles per gallon with a super heavy foot!! So regular driving it would be extremely good for a V8
I agree, especially considering it doesn't have the benefits of modern cars like variable valve timing, and direct injection. Your 17mpg car will dust so many 10mpg cars from the muscle car era!
@mattquerio I know!!! Lol but trying to get the average person to understand that is pretty damn hard!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I was messing around with a dude in a really nice 68 chevelle and dude is floored and I'm dead on his back bumper hitting and then lifting off the throttle over and over again stuck to his bumper!!🤣🤣🤣 he didn't like that too much I don't think! He was giving me a dirty look through the side mirror! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
c4 corvette as a daily for half the year (Canada winters) , bought at 121,000 miles after being abandoned in a field for 5 years. Only 2 tow homes in 2 years, electrics works and she still runs great, and she'll even kick out the rear end and slide 🤫
1994 C4 110k miles auto. Drive it daily in the Dallas Tx area. Great fun. Everything works AC etc. Dialed in and drives like a go Kart. Torch Red triple interior. Had it since 2015. Good luck with yours. The other thing is everyone knows me by my car since no one is daily driving their C4s. Basically you only see others on the weekends or car shoes. Great video. I enjoyed it.
I’ve been dailying my LT4 for 2 years now, it’s got about 104k miles and has been a pretty great experience. Optispark failed 3 weeks after I bought it but the car gave me no further problems after sorting that out. Superb car, planning to keep it for years to come.
My short answer is the best way to enjoy a C4 is to have a truck or SUV. Then you can enjoy your Vette, repair it when needed and have something else for hauling and bad weather. 4 C4s for me. Hands down best bang and driving experience for the buck. Agree about manual shift…all mine have been manual. Keep the good car content coming!
I agree really. It can be daily driven, but even I daily a truck for the sake of it's just easy. Hop in and go. If I drove my c4 daily I think thrall novelty would wear off.
I got a 1996 last November and I wanted a stick - but like you implied, that was hard to find. I found a very nice automatic, went for it, and I love it - no regrets. I don't track my car but I have had manuals in the past and enjoyed them. If I'd had a choice between two identical cars, one manual, one auto, I would have gotten the manual but that was not my choice and I'm happy with what I got. Your mileage may vary. I got the car for pretty Sunday drives but it has become my daily. It is a fun car. I have a modern car for inclement weather driving.
Nothing wrong with an automatic car. 2 of my 6 C4s have been automatic, but only because I could not find a manual. I swear it's 10 to 1 auto vs manuals built. All of them make a great weekend car.
I bought my 94 LT1 a year ago with 85k miles on it and It's been my daily driver since. And I drive it like a 18 year old kid in Dad's vett! I don't drive it in heavy rain that's about the only thing I avoid in it. IT has 108k in just a year. Only complaint I have is the brakes once they heat up they can be pretty dangerous to say the least.
@@jasonhiebert2032 no sir.. I have been contemplating switching to coilovers and using the optispark as a crank trigger I'm not sure about it but still looking into it
I drive my ‘91 to work every day for about 6 months of the year. I have a 1/2 ton for winter driving. Works for me and the ‘Vette gets much better mileage than the truck. Plus, it’s a cool car to cruise in. I love it.
Hey Matt, overseas 93 C4 owner here (Germany). Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I thought about the C4 as a daily, despite of having another car (quite boring Audi A3) as a freelancing engineer for my business. From my (maybe not that interesting ;)) european experience, the C4 is not enjoyable driving through the city. Parking lots are small, 3-point turns all the time. It can get quite stressful in dense traffic and MPG drops real hard. As we're paying around $7 per gallon over here, it does make transportation quite expensive. I found myself enjoying this car in my free time on a highway or broader streets, having no appointments and lots of free time. For me it's pure enjoyment, if I like to get from A to B, i use another car. But i totally agree with you - as long as there is no snow and ice, there is no reason to not enjoy life driving the c4. All the best, Julian
Thank you for thy kind words! You're right, in Europe I'm sure it is much more difficult/expensive to operate a car like this on a daily basis. Your car must turn heads everywhere.
At 8:28 The bad thing about a manual ( I had a 96 LT4 ) Is when you need a new clutch ( If you take it to a shop to have it installed ) They will make you convert to a single mass flywheel for them to warranty their work, because GM and aftermarket companies no longer manufacture and sell dual mass flywheels and a dual mass flywheel can't be turned by a machine shop.. The only problem I had with the conversion was the gear chatter ( My LT4 had 71,000 miles on it ) People will tell you the less miles = Less transmission wear = Less gear chatter.. That was not the case with mine.. It was almost unbearable at times.. Mechanically the conversion worked perfect and actually felt better through the clutch pedal, but not so much through the gear shifter and transmission tunnel.. I had people asking me " what's wrong with your car? " If you know a work around to deal with that I'm sure that upload would get a lot of views... Awesome upload as usual bud, very informative and spot on.. Take care & have a good one
The single mass flywheel is a real thing, I have heard the same. I will be curious what it will be like when that day comes for me. Thank you for the kind words and thank you for watching!
@@keonwells934 Mine was steel and it was so bad that it took away the joy of driving it.. It sounded like metal puzzle pieces in a sealed box being rapidly shook from side to side with each individual piece making sounds simultaneously
@@mattquerio I just discovered this clutch that acts like a dual mass flywheel ( Wish I would have found out about it before I sold my LT4 ) You'll have to convert to a single mass flywheel ( But when you need a new clutch you'll have to do that anyway ) It eliminates gear chatter and the torque this thing can handle is unreal.. I've not personally used one because I got rid of the Vette but the reviews online are very positive. UniClutch Twin Plate is the name. ua-cam.com/video/ehnn8IEBLWI/v-deo.html I am not connected to the company in anyway or paid by them.. I just thought this might help you out when that dreaded clutch replacement time comes.. Take care and have a good one
The 91 seats look ultra supple in the cars I've seen. I prefer the early seats, or in 94+ the base seats. I never found the 94-96 sport seats to be as comfortable, nor do I like the style. Well, with the exception of red sport seats in a 96 collectors edition or a grand sport, those get a pass.
i daily my 1987 C4, its been my most reliable car of all 3, my 2008 Wrangler has little thing go wrong like hoses and plastics due to age, my 2009 volvo c70 has hoses failing too but my Vette trucks thru all weather , i got it with 20k miles but a year later im at 27k miles, its a dream and mechanics arent scared to work on them if something goes wrong. i only had to rebuild the trans because it sat too long and i went to pushing it too hard. C4 is def worth the investment if under $10k and cared for
@@mattquerioI have a 88 35th anniversary car with 127k I daily drive. When getting a c4 you will have to sort some stuff out. Personally I daily it but I have multiple cars. If daily driving a classic keep 1500 back in reserve in case you need it
*Thank you Everyone!* *I’m encouraged more and closer to get the same C4* *I live 5min from San Francisco Airport and 3 min away from work by freeway with a 92 Corolla 70mph, I do need the C4 so Corolla is not stressed*
2:25 full chopping cart from target fits in the c4 coupe. I haven’t done it often but it was a usual grocery list, had to drive outta town and didn’t want to take the Tahoe so that’s that. Drove 50 minutes had been there and decided to get the shopping done at the end. Just thought to share that.
It's pretty wide open back there. Although if you are hauling ice cream very far you are going to want tinted windows haha. It will melt in this greenhouse!
Been driving a 95 Audi a4, it's my first car and I still love my baby. I just recently fell in love with c4 and c5 vettes. I'm pretty damn broke right now but if I can manage it I'll get a C4 in the next few years. Prolly gon be the best day of my life. All I can say is hell yea
I would totally daily a C4, but i havent had an "only car" since i was 16... i refer to my XJ Civic and Grand Prix all as daily drivers because i drive them all multiple times a week
I hear that. I've very rarely had one car, but I could daily a C4 as a sole car if needed. I probably wouldn't choose it, I'd go more practical because I am old, but even so... it could be done!
I want this to be my next car. I don't have much money to have a second car, so this would be my only daily driver. I don't mind the 91 octane, my Impala only takes 91. I don't mind the mileage either, as my Impala does 21 mpg on city and a tank will last me about 5 weeks with how much I drive. My only worry is finding the right one. A C4 that has been maintained well and it's not going to bankrupt me. I can do maintenance and work on the car myself, but nothing that would be catastrophic and leave me without a car. I usually put anywhere between 1200 to 2000 miles per year on my cars. So I don't really drive that much.
Sounds like you have an educated and realistic stance about it. But I agree, find the right one. Don't buy one that someone is flipping, or has sat for ages. Find one that has been used and maintained. Be patient and you will find it!
That means more than you know. Thank you so much for watching, and I'm glad you enjoy. I am trying to think of what to cover next. I am debating on doing an exhaust on the car, but I also kind of like how quiet it is. It's so serene to cruise in!
Same here. I do like the quiet cruising, but I've been eyeing this. Chambered exhaust with much better looking tips, for $815. Seems like a bargain. highfloperformance.com/products/96-lt4-catback-chambered-exhaust-with-c6-dual-exhaust-tips
Not planning to daily it, but I'm going to buy an '87 C4 pretty soon hopefully. Found it as a garage find with 7k miles and he only wants $2,000 for it! I'm only 17 so might take a little bit but hoping I can make it work.
Corvettes have generally been one of the most realiable, liveabl, versatile and overall practical sportscars. Truly not much that can actually match it in these regards,
That's impressive man. Honestly once you get the deferred maintenence done they're a pretty bulletproof car. The only issue is if they've been sitting. But that can be overcome with time and money.
@@mattquerio I’ve loved every second of this car, one thing I can say is the interior will not hold up too everyday use, my car was perfect inside and out but now the inside needs about 2 grand in work. If your not as unlucky as me the exterior can hold up if you take care of it, personally my cars been keyed twice and got a minor hit and run so needing to repaint or wrap until I can afford a good paint job. And maybe I just got lucky but it’s pretty easy to keep running. only bad thing I can say is almost every bushing needs to be replaced but that happens with age
I’ve been in the market for a C4 (also C5) corvette as my next car, so this was a great and educational video! I currently daily drive a 2004 Mazda RX-8 6 - speed. Anyone who knows anything about that car knows how poor the reliability and fuel economy can be, but I’ve had a good amount of luck with mine, currently sitting at just over 193k miles on the clock, fuel economy not so much as I average ~ 10 mpg…. Vettes in comparison seem like the regular Camrys and corollas to me ha ha!
I am glad you liked it! And yeah I've always heard rotary engines butt chug fuel, and have their quirks. Once you have lived rotary life, this will be a breeze lol.
I dailied a C4 I bought new for 3 years. It was a great daily. Comfortable, fast, good gas mileage and plenty of cargo space. I wouldn't daily anything more than 25 years old though...
I’m actually looking at getting a 95 corvette with the automatic, and my main concern is rain and snow, my area does get snow but some years it’s not much and others it bad, so I’m debating on it still since I currently daily a 2019 Hyundai Sonata and just can’t get the enjoyment out of it that a corvette can
As far as premium gasoline goes, if you get the eFlexPlus aftermarket upgrade to make it a flex fuel vehicle you can run it on E85 ethanol which is at least 100 octane and costs WAY less than premium gasoline. With the mileage hit you might be paying more per mile than regular gasoline but not premium
Yeah, around here E85 is available, but not everywhere. If I was doing a big HP build I would, but these cars can't be tuned like typical OBD2 cars, so going E85 isn't quite as simple.
I bet that is absolutely wonderful to daily. I have not driven a vette newer than C4. I can imagine the C7 is far more livable yet! Not to mention an absolute beast. I'd get tickets. Lol.
I dailyed an S2000 for 10 years and 160+k miles. I get enough snow in the northeast and with Conti DWS's, it never got stuck or was something I couldn't manage with if I needed to get somewhere like work. I eventually had an Xterra too just because I had dogs and as a homeowner needed to carry bigger stuff and kids now and then. Plus it allowed me to keep high performance tires on my Honda. A C4 or any newer Vette really would be no worse, especially since I would have other more terrain capable vehicles for the odd days that either my Vette was being repaired or wasn't as practical to drive becusde of weather. So that'd be what...5% maybe 10% of the time any given year? I mean, it's a Chevy, not an Italian money pit looking for an excuse to sit and be fixed.
Thanks. The thing is, at the time I didn't think anything of it. It drove like a much better built Civic when you were just puttering around town and was actually quite comfortable with decent road manners. By comparison, I could think of worse cars to be stuck in daily. Like I don't know...a Dodge Caliber. Lol @@mattquerio
You can absolutely daily a c4. Why couldn't you? Look at it from this prospective. At 1 point in time people were daily driving big block corvettes. 426 Hemi's, 440 six packs, 454's, 455's, big block fords. All on relatively small bias ply tires, year-round. When I had my 85 vette with a 383 in it I drove it for a couple years, year-round. That was a fun winter toy. Tight rebuilt posi rear, would do donuts like no other.
My '84 does 9 - 11 MPG according to the dash; but it has needed a lot of care and restoration doing to it. I got it as a daily because I don't want my much better condition 89 Pontiac Trans-AM GTA getting used as that and plus, average cars in the UK just plain suck. I was looking at 90s LHD Fiat Coupes but when I saw I'd be paying more for one than a Corvette, I figured: well this is ridiculous - I'm getting the C4 then!
@@mattquerio Ah, I don't think they know a good thing when it's right in front of them - the 1st day I drove it into work, it got more attention from the sea gulls than my colleagues - they absolutely splattered it! A few definitely took an interest in it though. Apparently I could be heard on the other side of the office when I left work ☺
I've never driven a C5 but I've been in them. The interior has slightly better quality, but no style imo. It's not old enough to be cool and not new enough to have good features. It's just meh to me personally.
I have had both, but I can say at this point I will never buy another automatic Corvette. The experience is night and day. The automatics are a great value though, and I would choose one over some manual cars in the same price bracket.
Matt, all of my Corvettes, including two C4s, have been daily drivers. We're in Central Texas so that explains part of it, but the part you failed to mention was that the cars just love to be driven, and the more often, the better. There us no such thing as too many miles for me. Rather than selling a C4 with 200K miles on it, I'd brag about it.
I didn't sell it because of the high miles. Heck I bought it with over 200k. I only sold it because I didn't want to replace the engine when it blew up. I had another LT4 and the supercharged 3800 fiero at the time that both needed some love. Of course I agree, no car responds well to sitting neglected. That's when things fail.
Not a Corvette, but I live in Ohio and I've daily driven fourth gen Firebirds for 24 years. Both v6 and v8 models. I have one for the winter and one nice TA for car shows. I'm sure a C4 can be driven daily.
Man that is impressive in Ohio. Honestly, having 2 is pretty brilliant. One for the salt, and one for the sun! Do you run winter tires, or just a good all season?
@@mattquerio I have all season Cooper tires on the winter/bad weather Firebird. I've only been stuck once and needed a tow. I would love to get a Corvette someday, but for now I just watch Corvette videos on UA-cam. I enjoy your channel.
my question as a 20 y.o looking to get into buying and working on cars with little hands-on experience, (and mechanic friends with a shop to help) if I want to slap some upgrades in it if need be, is it still reasonable to do that? or is it difficult
There are some upgrades you can do, but really the best thing to spend your money on with a car this age is maintenance. Change the fluids, do a tune up, refresh the suspension, etc. Most C4s need all this and some. They often sit a lot.
I’m in southeast Michigan. From my experience I have seen c3 and c4 vette’s go through close to everything! My mother only drove corvette’s from 1980 to around 99, not bragging, my dad just loved her and was happy driving cheap old trucks! I’m looking for a C4, I just wanna daily it, I will run it through dirt roads, rain and snow. You think there is any reliability difference between the auto and manual? I would rather have a manual. Easily under 10 grand, including convertibles, under 80k miles, under 60k miles with some patience. No rust, maintenance to a high level, decent power, gas mileage being great! They are really overlooked.
Manuals under 10k are hard to find, as manuals as a whole are hard to find. I'm not super familiar with the 4+3, but I'd say that the auto is more reliable than that. The ZF 6 speed is plenty reliable though. If you're gonna bomb it around, and trash it more or less, I'd get an auto. Manuals are generally 50%-100% more money, and you still have to find one. I can tell you no matter the tire, you're going to get stuck in snow lol. They are too low, and the tires are too wide. Unless you play in 1 or 2 inches of powder.
@@mattquerio Thank you. I didn’t even think about the price difference between the auto and manual. You’re 1000% right. My only reason for wanting a manual was for the unknown reliability factor of the automatic.
I did just drop A LOT of money on a new go pro hero 12, and I got the kit with the headstrap. I need to make slight adjustments, I'm still feeling like it's a little high in some parts of the video!
I daily a hotrod Lt4 383 because I like to party... It should not be your only vehicle. If you can afford an Lt4, you should be able to have a decent truck or sedan for bad weather or multiple people
When I see e36 m3 bring what they bring, and c4's bringing what they bring. Boggles my mimd how slept on the c4 is. I think that is mostly due to social media.
It is absolutely insane how cheap these cars still are relative to the performance (for the era it is extremely good). Not to mention how insanely capable the chassis is in stock form. I've sold 3 LT4's prior to this. I was lucky to find this car with 63k miles as clean as it is. It's a keeper. I am actually thinking of building a garage, which means I might need to let a car go to free up funds. I don't want to sell anything, but I can tell you that if I do, it will not be the LT4.
im also in MI and bought mine earlier this year. im starting to get worried about the winter, mostly just because of the ground clearance and the shitty roads here. anyone know a solution? i only have space for one car so i might have to sell it if i cant get to work when it dumps
I got one since this video! It was in the cards, but it needed more than an alignment. All new ball joints, tie rods, new Bilstein B8 shocks, and the alignment. Good eye!
What GoPro do I save up for? I searched with head strap I guess they're separate transactions.. top result on Amazon says stops @ 720p.. looking great man if vehicle doesn't do fliplights then not interested whatsoever
Cold is the problem or rain? I live in the netherlands and want to give it a try .but ignition ,engine and trans must be reliable. As a car guy can fix some stuff but would be my 1st american car next to japanese cars
Good vid. My issues as a daily driver, is finding a qualified mechanic is most impossible. 2 in urban areas the low height around semis is nerving. As you stated the age of the c4 is a issue. I guess the amount of mileage commuting is important. I could also see drive ups, banks and fast food might not be feasible. Your drive vido motivated me to get the car out yesterday. Everything went well. Thanks
Thanks Gary! I agree, it does depend on where you drive. I can see the city being a lot less fun to daily one of these. The age of the car is an issue, but if they are maintained properly, I think it's just fine. But so many of these cars sit for so long, and have items that need addressed to be daily driven. I've done banks and drive throughs, it's low, but you can pull it off! And I am glad my drive video got you to get the car out!!!! Thanks as always, Enjoy that car!
I veiw a Corvette as a toy. Not saying you can't daily one, but I wouldn't. I see it as a Jeep, motorcycle, jet ski, etc. It's for me to have fun. But I would not judge the guy that does. Do what you like.
I agree, for me it would ruin the fun of the car if I didn't take a break. But it is impressive that it has everything someone needs to do the job, comfortably and relatively efficiently.
So your 1988 was the last year for 16" wheels. They were the base wheel and 17s were optional. There were 2 different C4 offsets, and 1988-1996 all share the same offset compatibility. You could use any 17" wheel from a 1988-1996, and all of the aftermarket options. C5/C6 wheels are also an option if you want to go larger yet.
It's so common to see any year C4 with wheels mounted the wrong direction. I think it's simply that people don't pay attention, and so few vehicles have true directional wheels.
Not at all. They are all capable. The better maintained it has been, the less work you'll have to do! Keep that in mind, and check the age of the tires:)
Really love your video! Thinking of getting an 85 with 53k miles for $7,500. Yet to check it out in person. Do you do your regular services yourself or do you take it a shop?
I do fluids etc myself, I don't really have a good way to do other services here at the moment, but most anything needed can be done by someone at home with basic tools.
Yo matt im 18 and want to learn how to work with cars as i go and i want to buy a c4 as my first car i found a 96 with 90k miles and its an auto and has a cylinder 2 misfire and leaks oil from the valve cover 😭 but its 5k btw im single and get no snow at all cuz im in California should i do it?
From Michigan. I use a 1998 monte carlo for the winter. But i was planing to buy one of these 1996 models. I really like these cars and there really isnt
Isn't any alternative for a cool car around the 10k or cheaper price range. And people that arnt into cars say there very unreliable and get awfull gas milage but I actually consider them more reliable then most 2016 cars. (Just don't buy a shitbox for 3k )
These C4s are very reliable, as long as they haven't been neglected or sitting dormant for a decade. The gas mileage is really great for what they are. I routinely averaged 20-21 per tank, and near 30 highway! I agree, there is nothing in this price range that compares! And I also agree about reliability. Port fuel injected naturally aspirated V8.. not much to go wrong.
@mattquerio that's honestly not bad. 20mpg?? My 1998 monte has been getting 15mpg. Wich it should be getting more but somthing wrong with the evap and likely has other issues
Generally speaking, I would say no. These aren't the fastest cars in the world, but they are still a lot for a new driver. I suppose it depends on the person. My first car had 90hp and I still had close calls. I think it's better to get used to something with a lower power level to get used to the physics of driving. That's just my opinion.
I typically use a photo of my own car, but I wanted a driving/rolling shot. I googled "C4 Corvette" and did an image search, and this was one was my favorite.
To expand on that, my channel is predominantly based on keeping C4 Corvettes relevant. If you'd like me to change the thumbnail, I will. It's a beautiful shot of a beautiful car.
How tall are you? I'm close to buying a 1994 with the 6 speed but I'm 6'1" and concerned about longer trips. I'm right at that height where short trips are fine but over the long haul it starts to get uncomfortable in certain cars.
It works fine. The bottom of the gauge is about 200 degrees. It takes a bit of driving for it to move much. It's always on the low end, about 215 degrees or so no matter how many hours I drive it.
I think if I was down south this would be the daily for the money. It's a luxury car, it's a sports car, and on the highway it's an economy car. I agree. #C4stillrelevant !
I am so glad you are out there loving that beautiful C4 LT4 man!
I thought the excuse for the C8’s ugly ass was that it holds two golf bags!
lets go devils !!

My 91 is my fave car in my 56 years on earth.
@@mattquerio did you like the 1988 im thinking of getting one with low miles...its an automatic convertable...nice and very clean
Daily driving my 96, just hit 1 year and 18,000 miles.
Such a blast to drive, now time to save up for a manual swap!
Damn! 18,000 miles in 1 year! You are a legend for that!
Cheaper to just trade yours for a 6 -Speed.

That's bold in Canada!!! Lol that is awesome man.
Thank you for watching. I'm actually collecting parts to convert mine to red interior. Something about red on red is so good to me.

@@ianbestor1528 love the white vettes!
I’ve been dailying my LT4 for 2 years now, it’s got about 104k miles and has been a pretty great experience. Optispark failed 3 weeks after I bought it but the car gave me no further problems after sorting that out. Superb car, planning to keep it for years to come.
That's awesome. People get scared of the opti, but you do it once with an upgraded unit and you are good to go.
I've been daily driving my '84 for a few months now, and it's much better than I thought it would be
Props man. That's awesome.
That's awesome man! I'm sure maybe updating pads and rotors, and maybe a fluid flush would help that!
@@jasonhiebert2032 no sir.. I have been contemplating switching to coilovers and using the optispark as a crank trigger I'm not sure about it but still looking into it
The C4 was always my last pick in the lineup for me.. (as someone who has not driven even driven most generations) you’ve changed my mind!
That means a lot man. It's a great platform!!
I drive my ‘91 to work every day for about 6 months of the year. I have a 1/2 ton for winter driving. Works for me and the ‘Vette gets much better mileage than the truck. Plus, it’s a cool car to cruise in. I love it.
These cars are soooo useable, and cheap to operate. I think they make a great commuter being as they get mid to upper 20s on the highway.
I had an aluminum flywheel and it was loud. I switched it to a steel flywheel and the gear chatter is still there but not as bad as with aluminum.
Love driving my ‘91 six speed. Very comfortable and fun car to drive and the seats are amazing.
Hey I have a 91 Six Speed as well, just got a valved exhaust system done and am loving it. Been dailying it for 2 years now.
i daily my 1987 C4, its been my most reliable car of all 3, my 2008 Wrangler has little thing go wrong like hoses and plastics due to age, my 2009 volvo c70 has hoses failing too but my Vette trucks thru all weather , i got it with 20k miles but a year later im at 27k miles, its a dream and mechanics arent scared to work on them if something goes wrong. i only had to rebuild the trans because it sat too long and i went to pushing it too hard. C4 is def worth the investment if under $10k and cared for
Mine just touched 74,000 miles and it's dependable. It took some sorting out first though.
I think that is what it's all about. Regular preventative maintenance and there is no reason why you can't just rack the miles up. What year is yours?

Now that is dedication. I salute you sir!
These are the best c4 videos
That means more than you know. Thank you so much for watching, and I'm glad you enjoy. I am trying to think of what to cover next. I am debating on doing an exhaust on the car, but I also kind of like how quiet it is. It's so serene to cruise in!

What a lovely dashboard, everything you need to know right in front of you.
I agree. I like all the C4 dashes. Very straight forward. Some cars today are overwhelming.
Corvettes have generally been one of the most realiable, liveabl, versatile and overall practical sportscars.
Truly not much that can actually match it in these regards,
I totally agree.
Been dailying my 88 C4 for two years now, got it with 128k and at 173k now. It is my only vehicle and it is a pain at times but I love it
That's impressive man.
Had a 91 manual. Wish I had it back.
A 91 6 speed is a great unit man, all the TPI torque with 3 pedals would be a blast!
I have a 1986 c4, put wired spark plugs in it and it gets 20 miles per gallon, daily it, super fun!!
If you are in a fair weather climate I can't imagine a more fun daily per dollar.
More reliable than most cars on the road, gets good gas mileage and are a blast to drive!
You are spot on in all regards! Thanks for watching!
Yes, can be a solid daily driver
I dailied a C4 I bought new for 3 years. It was a great daily. Comfortable, fast, good gas mileage and plenty of cargo space. I wouldn't daily anything more than 25 years old though...
I get it, but ya know... older cars are more reliable than new ones if they are maintained.
Great no music no bs awesome
Thank you, and I hope you enjoyed it!
i been using my c7 since i bought it in march.... almost 3k miles so far

Daily driving a S2000 is elite car guy. I salute you 🫡
Hahaha. A caliber would certainly be awful 😆
I have owned a ton of cars... The funnest one I have owned is a little Yellow 96 LT-4 car.
These things are like go-karts.
A C4 in the UK must turn heads!!! It should get double that mpg with some sorting my friend!!! Also the GTA is a car I've always adored.
@@mattquerio Ah, I don't think they know a good thing when it's right in front of them - the 1st day I drove it into work, it got more attention from the sea gulls than my colleagues - they absolutely splattered it! Not shocked!
I love the c5 but have heard nothing but negative things about the interior. In your opinion how does the c4 interior compare?
I've never driven a C5 but I've been in them. The interior has slightly better quality, but no style imo. It's not old enough to be cool and not new enough to have good features. It's just meh to me personally.
@@mattquerio ok that makes sense
I've had both. I think the interior in the c4 is nicer than the c5.
I daily drove a C4 and got 26-28 mpg highway, about 14-18 daily.
It's pretty damn impressive. The gearing and aerodynamics really make it.
If it weren't for this car being a stick shift, I probably wouldn't watch this channel. I respect the manual .
I'm sure a C4 can be driven daily.

my question as a 20 y.o looking to get into buying and working on cars with little hands-on experience, (and mechanic friends with a shop to help) if I want to slap some upgrades in it if need be, is it still reasonable to do that? or is it difficult
There are some upgrades you can do, but really the best thing to spend your money on with a car this age is maintenance. Change the fluids, do a tune up, refresh the suspension, etc. Most C4s need all this and some. They often sit a lot.
@@mattquerio gotcha. makes perfect sense. thanks so much for responding, i’ll keep that in mind!

@@mattquerio you are right. I hope the youth takes up the torch. C4 is a great car.
Its a crossfire injection tho got any tips lmk
I veiw a Corvette as a toy. Not saying you can't daily one, but I wouldn't. I see it as a Jeep, motorcycle, jet ski, etc. It's for me to have fun. But I would not judge the guy that does. Do what you like.
I agree, for me it would ruin the fun of the car if I didn't take a break. But it is impressive that it has everything someone needs to do the job, comfortably and relatively efficiently.
My C4 has 16” wheels I’d like to get different wheels can’t find many my question is will 17” wheels fit without any problems
Thanks
Its a 88 model
So your 1988 was the last year for 16" wheels. They were the base wheel and 17s were optional. There were 2 different C4 offsets, and 1988-1996 all share the same offset compatibility. You could use any 17" wheel from a 1988-1996, and all of the aftermarket options. C5/C6 wheels are also an option if you want to go larger yet.
Good Video
Thank you!!
You have a summoned me

why do i see so many late model C4s with the front wheels mounted in the wrong direction ?
It's so common to see any year C4 with wheels mounted the wrong direction. I think it's simply that people don't pay attention, and so few vehicles have true directional wheels.
I’m looking at an 85 c4 in great shape, will it e any difference to daily vs yours?
I daily my LT4
Dudes see this and be like "Hell Yeah." :salute:
Yo matt im 18 and want to learn how to work with cars as i go and i want to buy a c4 as my first car i found a 96 with 90k miles and its an auto and has a cylinder 2 misfire and leaks oil from the valve cover 😭 but its 5k btw im single and get no snow at all cuz im in California should i do it?
Please update me if you buy it!
@@mattquerio ok I'll lyk if I get it
From Michigan.
One of the only other cars I like alot is the mistubishi 3000gt vr4. But the vr4 is very hard to find and often goes for 20k wich is to much
These C4s are very reliable, as long as they haven't been neglected or sitting dormant for a decade.
The answer is yes, I did it for 2 years I still am
Cheers to that!
what kind if camera did you buy?
Gopro hero 12. So far it's great.
Saying this car is old is likw calling me old and im 44. I just got one and its new to me.
Haha hey I'm almost 41 so I'm feeling it too! Congrats on your vette! What did you get??
@@mattquerio I have a 92 coupe. Manuel shift . Borla exhaust.
That's a nice spec. The borla systems I've heard sound fantastic. Especially while rowing gears!
@@mattquerio I love that crackling sound when it revs up.
Is it a good first car?
Generally speaking, I would say no. These aren't the fastest cars in the world, but they are still a lot for a new driver. I suppose it depends on the person. My first car had 90hp and I still had close calls. I think it's better to get used to something with a lower power level to get used to the physics of driving. That's just my opinion.
Why are you using my photo of Ken Lingenfelter driving his 415 CID LT-5 LPE tuned C4 in the thumbnail?
I typically use a photo of my own car, but I wanted a driving/rolling shot. I googled "C4 Corvette" and did an image search, and this was one was my favorite.
To expand on that, my channel is predominantly based on keeping C4 Corvettes relevant. If you'd like me to change the thumbnail, I will. It's a beautiful shot of a beautiful car.
Haha no I’d love to see mine on his thumbnail
Thank you for updating. I appreciate it
Thanks!
What camera did you get?
It's a GoPro Hero 12! This is 4k 60hz, but it'll do 5.3k 120hz. But man would the files get big!
You have a widebody Lingenfelter ZR-1?!
No, the video is representative of all C4s.
@mattquerio oh, the thumbnail was messing with me, and the 8k rpm on the dash
Did you have the original trans on your 220k lt4?
To be honest I have no idea. It had many owners before me. It very well could have been.
How tall are you? I'm close to buying a 1994 with the 6 speed but I'm 6'1" and concerned about longer trips. I'm right at that height where short trips are fine but over the long haul it starts to get uncomfortable in certain cars.
6'1 226lbs. It's comfortable for me. I think you'll be surprised. It's not a big car, but it is comfortable.
@@mattquerio Thanks for responding. That's literally about how much I weigh too. 👍 That sounds perfect for me.
What year is that c4?
1996 LT4 :)
Whats the name of the body kit
The car in the photo has a lingenfelter kit.
4 dollars a gallon here😢
Yeah premium is about 4.39 here as of today.
Is your oil temp gauge not working?
It works fine. The bottom of the gauge is about 200 degrees. It takes a bit of driving for it to move much. It's always on the low end, about 215 degrees or so no matter how many hours I drive it.
How tall are you? Your knees are right on the dash.
I'm 6'0. I prefer the seat to be high in the front, low in the rear, and forward enough that I can recline it a good bit. I'm not cramped in any way.
U must be tall steering wheel is in your lap😂
Lol it has tilt, it must be the angle haha.
I would say you Absolutely can because the #C4stillrealavent
I think if I was down south this would be the daily for the money. It's a luxury car, it's a sports car, and on the highway it's an economy car. I agree. #C4stillrelevant !
