I think in Wormtail’s case, he got the Dark Mark after he gave Voldemort the information on the Potter’s whereabouts. He was pleased by it, gave him the mark, then went after the Potters.
He was definitely pleased by the betrayal of the potters by wormtail but I think he gave him the mark to remind him constantly that he was his new master. Wormtail was a moronic weak coward who had no loyalties and the mark was a branded reminder to never fuck with Voldemort

I think Pettigrew was rewarded either when he gave up the Potter’s location or when he reunited with Voldemort after book 3
I think Voldemort thought the only recourse with Snape was to kill him because he saw anyone who had obtained control of the Elder Wand as a threat to his power. If Snape was once strong enough to gain control of the wand, then surely he wasn't someone Voldemort would want around.

Wormtail was magically talented he was one of those who doubted his own ability and only followed at first for a place of power and later only served out of fear. I believe he received his Dark Mark after he gave up Lily and James.
I guess my thought on wormtails dark mark was he got it in the first wizarding war. During the time Voldemort was still manipulative rather than forceful, so when he heard the prophecy and the potters went into hiding voldie would have tried to find where they were finding. He would have made wormtail believe he was safe by giving him the mark, securing worktails safety and so wormtail would reveal the potters.
Yeah so I see the mark as been given more of a manipulative basis to make it even easier for wormtail to rat out his friends. By being given the mark it would appear that wormtail is untouchable by any of his former comrades (just with voldie being so feared during this time, he was considered invincible)
Thinking about it, Wormtail getting the darkmark as a sortof reward for keeping Voldemort alive makes a lot of sense, also to ensure that he wouldn’t betray him.
I never really thought about it before Dean, but I truly think that’s the best explanation for that

6:24 when you say there is no way removing the Dark Mark I just remembered that when Malfoy showed his Dark Mark to Dumbledore before Dumbledore's death he said "I'll make it easy for you" as of attending to remove it.
I mean was he actually gonna do it and could Dumbledore as very powerful wizard do it? 🤔🤔
Never thought of this like that, what I like to believe is he was making it easier for Draco to kill him, or at least giving him a notion of surrendering.
I think Lord Voldemort needed a patsy and a servant and he gave Peter Pitigrew or worm tail a mark as a form of manipulation.

Bit late to the party but I actually think the only reason pettigrew got the mark was for voldemort to be able to summon the death eaters to the graveyard upon his return, given the fact that Barty crouch Jr was in hogwarts at the time so would be unable. I honestly think it's that simple.
The Elder Wand’s origins say that you had to kill its previous master if you wanted to become its new master. This is the reason it bears the “Wand of Destiny” name. And that’s why Voldemort had - in his own view - to kill Snape.
What if voldermort gave pettigrew the mark for all his years service spying on the Weasley's. Imagine how many order meetings he scurried around listening to. Can you tell, I'm binge watching 😂❤

Peter's always been a weird case...he normally seems so incompetent, yet his framing of Sirius Black was brilliant, and his attack against Black and the Muggles seemed pretty potent as far as magical power goes.

I wish he had more of a redemption in the movies as he did in the book, but even then I believe it wasn't enough of a redemption. I think Peter Pettigrew was given the dark mark at the end of the Goblet of Fire, as a reward for helping him to create his full body.

People overlook that Wormtail was feeding Voldemort information for over a year before the Potters went into hiding. He most likely received the mark during that time. He was basically in Snape's role during the first wizarding war

I think the dark mark is how Peter was able to convince James and Sirius to trust him as secret keeper and a backup if he proved to be as untrustworthy as he was much like the silver hand that killed him. Harry was the most important thing to Voldemort. This placed him much more important the Gray back which was a ravid dog you keep in the back yard that would bit you if it could

I like that you addressed the Peter Pettigrew thing. I always thought as Peter joined Voldemort a year before he betrayed James and Lily, it would have been a bit of a giveaway to them if he had a Dark Mark on his arm. So I agree with you that he could only have got it after that point.

I agree with you. Not only that, but Pettigrew also sacrificed his hand for Voldemort.....and he HAD to be sanctified by Voldemort to be "worthy" to sacrifice his hand. If Pettigrew had not been "sanctified" by Voldemort, I don't believe things would have turned out as good for Voldemort. Kind of like a pure lamb, or sacrifice ritualistically speaking.

I think voldy gave Peter the mark as a reward for divulging the secret location of the Potters. And part of the reason that Peter hid as a rat was that he knew the other death eaters wouldn't believe him unless voldy was there to say so.

I suspect that Pettigrew received the dark mark after he narrowly escaped the cluches of Harry and Sirius, when Remus surcame to his curse of lycanthropy, and found a weakened Voldemort hiding in the Dark Forest.

I always believed that Vold suspected Snape a little, but had no actual proof, and when Snape was driven out of the school, V found the perfect time to do away with him. ( S had also failed in capturing Harry, come to think of it)

I know you're not doing "the life of series", but it was really good! you got into some obscure characters that I had no idea about. maybe do a history of where you just go down family tree in depth so its not just about the singular character. I know you've done some family tree lines, but it lightly touches on each family member.

I see Pettigrew's inclusion via the Dark Mark as proof of his weakness in be betrayal the Potters. The Dark Mark would have only been an everpresent reminder to Wormtail of which side he picked and why. Voldy would have reveled in Wormtails constant humiliation at the reminder of his weakness. I think Wormtail got the mark when he shortly after his revelation of the Potters secret-keeper.

I think that you're right about Peter Pettigrew getting the dark mark after the events of the 3rd book. Prior to then he was very definitely unworthy, but by finding, and caring for Voldemort he was given the mark so that Voldemort could keep an eye on him. Peter was not trusted at all , and so by using the mark Voldemort could summon him, and control him.
