      I THINK YOUR ALL CRAZY CAUSE IF YOU MIKE AN AMP IT DON'T REALLY MATTER DOES IT YOUR MAIN SOUND COMES FROM THE PA. AT LEAST THE VOLUME/HEADROOM. SO LIKE THIS ID ANYDAY TAKE 2 SMALL 5 WATT TUBE FENDER TWEEDS SPLIT INTO STEREO OFF MY PEDDLE BOARD THEN PLACE 1 OR 2 MIKES YOUR CHOICE INFRONT OF YOUR SPEAKERS RUN THE MIKES TOO HOUSE BOARD AND USE A THROW BACK INFRONT OF YOU OR INEAR MONITOR AND WHAM ALL YOU NEED AND YOU DON'T NEED A SEMI TO HAUL YOUR GEAR OR NEED TO BE HALF A MILLIONAIR TO BUY IT. PROBLEM SOLVED. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME I DON'T WANNA HEAR IT ITS MY PERSONAL PREFERENCE BUT I WILL SAY DON'T KNOCK IT TILL TO TRY IT. WITH A PA SYSTEM AND MIKES NO AMP IS TO SMALL.

    My best friend and his other friend used to bring that Marshall to school with him in his bag in the 90's with his guitar. I remember it being cheap. I saw the Orange recently and almost bought it. I think i'll get it later. I wanted a very portable amp just for practicing in my bedroom and jamming with my same friend who is now 34 just like me by throwing the amp in a bag and heading over.

      Yeah I totally agree probably people like, Dan Auerbach, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Elvis Presley Mozart, Paganini, Bach, Mesomedes, Jubal, the son of Lamech... and a lot more played their music on that mini toy looking fender.

      With a couple Lehle P-Splits, I can get a useable tone from almost any random bits. I like a couple wet fx amps and one drive pushing the beat. I've got arrays ranging from one watters up to a few hundreds, depending on how far away I want to disturb the livestock.

    I've got a friend in school with the Marshall, and a friend with the orange, we all agree that my Blackstar Fly takes the cake. The tiny thing can (sorta) keep up with controlled drums with everything on max volume at the same time being beside our schools 60 watt SS peavey amp. The Blackstar Fly just blows all competition away, no bias (I actually also got an orange first and sold it). Besides the Blackstar the Marshall is the best in person. My friend's orange can barely be heard in school with all the noise :c

    You playing The Kinks on the tiny Fender was magical!! I have the same amp, I basically just got it to put on the desk. But you inspired me to actually play more. Great video as always 🙏🎉. Love your Free Forever poster btw! Just realized you played a bit of The Stealer as well ✌️ Koss is my absolute favorite guitarist. PS. Loved your appearance on Anderton’s. And I agree with you, no reason for you to ever do anything else but play. It’s what you do, your skill and you have what we all would die for, to understand our heroes on a deeper level and then our own style from those influences. I’m still hoping to get there and I’m 38 now. I don’t believe it’s ever too later 🙏. And I know the Fender isn’t a good amp, bought for the looks. But it had some charm when you played it, cheap sound in a charming way. Hard to explain. Sorry for the long message mate ✌️

    In my opinion, that orange amp sounds great. The clean tone is really solid, especially given how small it is. Of course, all of this stuff is subjective and a matter of preference.

    I really like my Orange Mini Crush with Gain, Tone, Master- Potis, a built in Tuner, Aux-In and the most important 8Ohm external Speaker out.
    Can get really loud with a 1x12 box. I like the clean and the overdriven sound as well and this crazy little thing combined with delay or reverb it is killer.

      That's what Marshall did with the Rhoads Zeus amp. Over and over lol. But if Randy were alive now, he would say fuck the Zeus and buy the Marshall JCM1. And run a Boss D+ into it while the JCM1 is in JCM800 mode. Because the Jube mode sucks the mids are all fucked up and scooped to much.

      You'd probably get about the same sound quality just building one of the LM386 circuits and mounting it into an Altoids tin. Also, you'd want to use it with some kind of external speaker.
      At those prices, you could build a totally decked out LM386 circuit :D.
      Those "weird overtones" you're hearing, by the way, are the enclosure and speaker rattling. Hmmm. Maybe we could add a "speaker and enclosure" rattle knob for more ambiance or something. :D

    Inexpensive, fun, different.
    Kinda resets you, especially these days with a million amps out there, and a million guitars and a million options and more. Too much of all that kinda spoils the guitar at a certain point. These simple mini amps get yoiu back to simple. Just you and the guitar like it should be. I like how they all have their unique tone (small sound) but you definitely hear fender in the fender and orange in the orange. Kinda kool. For the price, they have a collect em all feel. And if you play quiet in your room like me, I could see these kinda fun for just fooling around.
    Ive had an orange tiny terror for a few years... love it. Not in a band mind you, but it still shakes the walls plenty enough. Im just tired of all the 'gotta be bigger and bigger' bullshit in the guitar world these days

    Out of the 3 amps tested I think that the Marshall sounded the best, but I wouldn't touch it as it is plastic. The Fender sounded too weak and tinny, so I wouldn't want that one either. So if I had to choose one of them, I would buy the Orange. But fortunately I own a Marshall MG2CFX which is an awesome little amp. It is only 2 watts but will easily drown out an acoustic guitar. Plus it has lots of built in effects and a built in tuner. You can run it off the mains or battery. They measure about 10" x 10" x 6.5" (25.5cm x 25.5cm x 16.5cm), and have a 6.5" (16.5cm) speaker. They normally sell for just under £90, but I got mine in perfect condition off ebay for £45 including delivery. They are a proper baby Marshall amp, built to very high standards, and I would highly recommend them.

    It's great when the cord cost more than the amp. I have the tiny Marshall MS4 single and I like it for what it is and I bought it about 2015. The belt clip is nice for dancing round the campfire or for hanging it on the trapeze of a semi-hollow Gibson. The Fender looks great, sounds wheeek. The Orange looks and sounds nice. Oh and I found you on the Hippie show, glad to meet'cha!

    I have the Orange one. It's great and surprisingly loud. It'll soon be my only amp because it's all I really need (I'm only an occasional, casual guitar player). The only negative thing about it is the plastic hinge on the battery compartment door. It's so poorly fitted that it snapped off not long after I bought it. I have to hold the battery door in place with a bit of blu tack now. Otherwise, I can't fault it.

  • @lalythil
    @lalythil 8 років тому +4

    now.. what I'm reaaaallyyy wondering about is: If you take these tiny little amps (and the blackstar fly 3 to make the comparison fully complete) and mod them slightly to include a speaker out and connect them to a 1x12, 2x12 or even a 4x12, how would they sound. Obviously better than they do with these tiny speakers, but what are these amps really capable of. Would be fun having them as tiny backup amps haha. (currently don't have one, but might get the orange or the blackstar)

    •  8 років тому

      lalythil Going all that distance for transistor - based amplifiers seems a bit excessive for me. That being said, I would like to hear if a booster or volume pedal would contribute to their output..

    • @lalythil
      @lalythil 8 років тому

      Özgür Özcan actually ive bought the blackstar and modded it to connect to a 1x10 i have and it sounds so much better than it did before haha. this is a nice budget solution for a small travel amp. granted something like the orange microterror does sound even better as do the more expensive amps. but this is quit a fun low budget solution.

      joeylk4d4 Could you maybe share a video demonstrating the volume output with the Ibanez Tube Screamer engaged and out of the circuit?

    • @lalythil
      @lalythil 8 років тому

      Özgür Özcan yeah it seems a bit excessive at first to start modding such tiny amps, but i've gone and done it. partly for the experience modding amps, while starting on a super cheap one. (got my fly3 in a sale). but its also a heck of a lot of fun to see the look on peoples faces when bringing that miniamp to a live (practice) session.
      plugged it in a 2x12 and sounded awesome. am thinking of putting a booster pedal between amp and speaker though. for a louder yet crisper output. especially for the nice n clean jazz tones.

      I also have the DA5 and it is indeed amazing with all its built in emulations from famous amps and lots of effects to mess around when you learn guitar like me and will not buy all kind of pedals at the moment. The DC and the batteries mode as well make it perfect ! Sadly it has been discontinued and replaced by the Mini5 which not as good sounding apparently. Years later I finally found an old orange micro crush at a flea market and it is great when you want to go back to something rawer and just to plug & play and a tuner on top of that. Cheers !

    hello Dave. Thank you for the review. I m just about to buy a little amp, but I m not sure wether to buy a mini marshall or a blackstar. I m into punk rock mainly, also the kinks, the who that kind of stuff. what do you suggest??

      @thedavesimpson  4 роки тому +1

      Personally I'd recommend the boss Katana mini. But. Out of those two the blackstar is the best choice. :)

    I used to own the Marshall but didn't like it it sounded too tinny. I now have the micro crush pix cr3 and love it it does everything I want in combo with a multi fx

    NICE SHOOT OUT!!! I have tried a couple of others mentioned in the comments below The Marshall being made out of plastic does make it seem to be on the cheaper side. I would not recommend dropping any amp from a height onto concrete they do not like that. My mini orange started to come apart and I had to glue it back together I never dropped it or misused it. Cheers good vids!!!!!

    Orange by a mile. The Micro Crush is perfect for practice while traveling, and is a tough little fucker. Sounds good too. Great cleans.

    Out of those 3, the Orange amp wins for me. However... there is another micro amp not featured here that blows all 3 clean out of the water... the Blackstar Fly 3. More expensive at about 50 ish quid, but worth every extra penny

    I was walking down the street when I saw this guitar/gaming/passport shop, so I decided to check it out. There was a red fender there, and it was £39.99. Is it suitable for beginners and will it sound nice?

    Effectively, these are Practice Amps - or for writing. They're not gigging material, unless used as a monitor.
    Saying that - Orange win hands down on design. Clean, solid, compact, user-friendly and neat.
    Marshall are loud, but tinny sounding and far too bulky...not unlike Glam Rock in the later 70's.
    Fender, well...they threw passion out the window during the Norlin years, they've never fully recovered.
    Orange - all damn day.
    Does exactly what it says on the label.
    Handmade, British, Product.
    Thank you for the video - you've made my mind up. I'm getting a pair of Orange Crush Minis for my girls - seems a perfect pairing for both, my eldest's Cordoba Mini O - fitted with a Fishman pick-up - and my youngest's handmade, APC, Portuguese, Koa Tenor Uke TC CW.
    Cheers!

    Great video Mate! Appreciate you posting this... :D I've been looking into/thinking about getting something like this to just jam out when not needing a LARGE/HUGE amount of power/sound/etc, etc... Also, the lightweight and portability is great to have...
    Question for those who have viewed this and possibly purchased one of the featured amplifiers...
    Has/have anyone bought any of the three feature here? And if so, how do you like it? (The Orange, Fender or Marshall...) Are you having fun? Do you use it much? Is it holding up well? Etc, etc... Cheers! :)

    Hey there Dave! I think the best amp among those is Orange too, since clean to dirty. For me it sounds more like a real amp, and it's more presence. I would try some of these in an official recording. Great video man! Next video could be with comparing to Mini Fender Deluxe Amp too.

    Great video Dave.
    It's interesting that the tones of all three do sound quite a lot like the iconic larger amps.
    To my ears, the Orange and the Marshall had very appealing sounds but I know through bitter (and expensive) experience that I just can't get Marshalls to sound good when I play them.
    The tweed Fender distortion sound is something of an acquired taste. I find they get harsh very quickly and solid state, to my ears, isn't too good at edge of distortion settings.
    I do also wonder how seriously the companies take these amps? For a lot of folk, they are probably nothing more than gimmicks. I'm old enough to remember when Marshall first produced those types of amps that the reviews were surprised that they were even credible sound wise.
    Personally, I'd choose the Orange but then, I've already got an OR15 and certainly wouldn't want to swap!

    • @thedavesimpson
      @thedavesimpson  9 років тому +1

      PeterWasted I wonder too how serious the companies are about these little amps as well. It does seem that Marshall, Orange, Blackstar and vox take it very serious whereas i feel Fender did it as more of a gimmick. Thank you for watching. :)
