I'm guessing this trailer was put together before the team found out that they're being shut down, because why else would anyone add new progression stuff like badges and prestige system to a soon-to-be dead game?

II think you underestimate just how much money it takes to run a game of this scale. Despite any will to be good to fans, money is REQUIRED to be able to serve a game. You can easily do back of the napkin math on hosting costs and software engineer salaries and see that it goes past MANY thousands of euros per day. If a game is losing that, they're paying out of pocket. how could they keep the game going even if they wanted to? How do you continue to pay the devs after there's no more money left? How do you provide servers if you don't have any income to pay the cloud providers with? Even if there was no profit and all the money was put into keeping the game available, it STILL costs many thousands of euros per day. Good will towards fans does not offset cost, fans spending money playing the game does. As you can see from Mark Rubin's announcement, not enough people were playing in order to pay for the costs already paid (thats how investment works), nevermind future cost.

If there's someone that cares about the fans its ubisoft. All of their game get years of content no matter the amount of people playing. The problem here is it's a free to play live service game, so they didn't get any money from players other than cosmetic purchases, and because the community is small and unwilling to spend money on the game they are forced to shut it down. There's no other way.
The Division 2 was supposed to end after Faye Lau in season 4. Its 2024 and we are atill getting content for that game. With all that being said, if enough people show support for XDefiant, it could possibly get the same treatment.
What's not to get game as no long term expectations so you release stuff to make quick money it's literally a cash grab before shutting down the server in favor of their 63k a character nft slop servers
At the very least, they could just do what Velan did with Knockout City and release a downlodable private server/LAN version of the game with every content usable. That is, if Ubisoft were run by competent people who know what they’re doing.
This added a lot of the progression we've wanted and they didn't even give it a chance to be enjoyed. I only can hope they go back on their word and keep it around, there is so much passion put into what they do with this game

You can tell shutting down was a big surprise to the team. Many of the things the community was asking for is in season 3, tis a shame it came after the shutdown announcement. Very different from the extremely light offerings from MW3 season 6 when they knew it's year was up.
