Baseball savant currently has bregman ranked as the fourth best defensive 3B and the 13th best offensive and he has the track record of doing it for years. His collective offensive and defensive numbers are better than everyone on the Allstar list except for bohm who is having a great year but has been somewhat worse than Bregman so far for his career. Although, one could argue that bohm has found it now and this will be him moving forward. It’s going to be funny when Bregman signs with the Mets or Yankees and everyone starts putting him in the elite category. He certainly is better than vientos and Chisholm has played 3B for a fourth of a year.
Watching Machado play every day it is hard to believe the metrics don't like his defense because he is smooth AF. Dude was playing injured to start the year and has been bonkers in the second half. MVP second half.
His range has gotten lowkey horrible this season. He’s still elite at balls hit at him, but he doesn’t cover near as much of the field as a good defensive third baseman like JRam or Hayes.
Machado is elite. I think an offseason of Jazz honing his craft in the field at third could put him in elite. Matt Chapman. Man. kinda always thought he was a tease but man the Giants look smart locking him up
Can't see how anyone can say Manny Machado isn't better than elite, even returning from shoulder surgery his play both on offense and defense is without peer. I don't know how other clubs play their 3rd basemen, but Manny shoulders a lot more responsibility, playing well off the line and sometimes the only infielder that dude of the field whe the shift is as much as legally permitted. Manny continued to make unusual plays common and if there is any dropoff it's that Manny actually made a couple of errors this year. Manny has been consistent, reliable and will make the unusual play if it's called for. That's elite
Machado is definitely Elite. Who cares what these fan charts say. Padres are playing Baseball in October and Manny is at the front of that Squad going down Third Base as the Best to do it.
I really think Eugenio Suarez should be in the all star tier. What he was able to accomplish to COMPLETELY turn his season around is unreal. He was minutes away from getting DFA'ed multiple times

I like the jazz acquisition as a yankees fan, but i still there are holes to his game we've seen him do really well along with the bad streaks where hes just striking out a lot and not being productive offensively. I still like the pickup overall and i hope with more time he can be a bit more consistent and hes been great defensively too and adjusted almost seamlessly to third base.

@@sm_1146What does that have to do with this year? Are we supposed to put Trout in elite for CFs even though he didn’t even play a complete month of baseball? He does these rankings every year so it should be based on how they play each year

Royce Lewis will be J.Ram, Devers level next year. I saw him in Oakland this summer, he was nasty defensively, and his confidence at the plate was palpable.

I think that 3rd basemen and 1st basemen have declined in defensive knowledge and ability. It's a hard position to field and guys are not getting passed down the finer points over the years.
