Bobby, Gunnar, and Elly I feel like are gonna be perennial top 3 over the next decade with them switching around in the top 3 any given year!! Go REDSSSS! Great Vid as always Mark!
20:00 Bobby Witt Jr IS the Kansas City Royals. And he got them to the playoffs. I remember they were expected to tread water and completely overperformed. Well-deserved #1 spot.
The Dodgers have done a great disservice to Mookie by not keeping him in RF where he won SIX GOLD GLOVES. People forget just how awesome his was out there. I know he may have lost a step, but that cannon is still there.
It was Mookie's decision, not the Dodgers. Mookie wanted to play the infield, but I would rather have seen him at 2nd, where he's one of the best in the game as well.
I'm a lifelong Royals fan and I can definitely say Bobby Witt is probably the best player they've had in my lifetime (I was born after George Brett retired unfortunately). He's definitely the real deal, making the Royals great again. Overall last year was probably the most fun year to be a Royals fan since 2015 (sorry to bring up painful memories Marc lol).
I honestly thought you were gonna be harsher on volpe. No way he does it over a 162 game season but the hitter he was in the playoffs can easily be a top 10 guy next year. But I’d settle for just getting over the 100 ops+ mark as a Yankees fan
You’re right Marc and you ranked him higher than i would’ve. As a Braves fan I think AA should see what Nacho Alvarez can do. He could include him in a trade for Bichette. We can’t have the walking out at SS all year.
Marc basically said Perdomo isn’t that great defensively and league average offensively. On the screen we’re seeing 3.5WAR so where is that coming from? He has to have SOME value lol
As an Astros fan it’s sad to see Jeremy Peña at 19th but he’s been pretty disappointing since the 2022 World Series. Hope he can bounce back in ‘25 he’s one of my favorite players.
Who from 1-6 is Turner better than? The only one that is even remotely debatable is Elly, who was better this last year, and is much younger and on the rise while Turner has declined. It’s not really a diss, SS is just a stacked position. If Turner played 2nd base he’d probably be #3 or #4.
Really great rankings. Wanted to bitch about Adames being 8th, but can't justify moving him up. And worried he will get off to one of those starts with the Giants, where he "tries to do too much." Still hoping SF sneaks in and signs Kim away from the Padres to play 2B. Wow- what a defensive infield that would be, including Bailey behind the plate.
Brayan Rocchio could likely become a top 15 shortstop next year. He got a full year under his belt, so hopefully, next year, he will brush up his defense and get into a rythem at the plate.
No complaints here with your rankings, Marc. As an Orioles fan I'd loved to have seen Gunnar at the top of the list, but my brain overruled my heart. Bobby had a truly amazing year and was fully deserving of all the acolades. That said, it was just one season, and I'll be eager to see if Gunnar can leapfrog him in 2025. Going forward, I hear a lot of talk that the O's won't extend him because he's a Scott Boras client. That's crazy, the club _has to extend him,_ because like Witt, Henderson's a generational talent.
Speaking as a Royals fan, Witt and Gunnar are going to have their careers intertwined for the rest of their time in the league. Two young superstar shortstops from the same draft class playing in the AL together. I imagine these two are going to be trading back and forth every year who is better, and I wouldn’t be surprised if these two both win multiple MVPs in their careers. I really can’t wait, because these two are going to be the faces of the AL for the next decade.
As a Red Sox fan, im so praying for a full healthy season from Trevor Story this year cuz he is such a good player and I think could be a top 10 shortstop if he can just stay healthy
Elly is a top 3 shortstop in today’s game!!! I may be biased because he plays for my favorite team but Elly is so SPECIAL!!! He’s a top 3 shortstop sorry….
Love Elly to death, but he’s not a better player than Mookie Betts and Francisco Lindor. If you want to argue that nephew better than Seager atp due to the base running value, defense, and availability on the field, then I think you could reasonably put him at 5, but there’s no argument to put him higher than that of right now. Could he ascend next season and pass them? Sure, but he’s not there yet.
As a mariners fan I thought you forgot about JP until he popped up at 13 😂😂. Boy do I hope he plays like the 13th best shortstop because last year he was nowhere near it
I'm kind of surprised that you had Volpe that high tbh, we're still waiting for him to be at least an above league average hitter. It does help that he plays a great SS and he has good speed though
Yaaa there’s absolutely NO WAY Zach Neto is below JP Crawford, Dansby, Bogaerts, Bo, and others. Neto is a top 10 SS. Idk why the metrics hate him giving him a bad OAA. He’s so nasty at the SS position and arm strength is very good. You obviously don’t watch the Angels play
I was about to criticize Henderson. Dude had a 9 WAR and definitely agreed and changed my tune. As a fellow Met fan, Betts slightly over Lindor is fair for this season. Only pushback, Lindor got better at 31 and Betts worse at 32. Again splitting hair. Good list.
Betts didn’t really get worse tbf. He was white hot to start the year and on track to run away with the MVP, then took a pitch on the hands and was slowed down when he came back from injury. Those kind of freak injuries aren’t a sign of regression or an indicator of health concerns, they just happen sometimes, and there isn’t any indication that Mookie has significantly slowed down. Also, a “down year” for Mookie is still an .860 OPS. He’s a monster.
The pirates are actually hiring the Blue Jays hitting coach for next year which is the one IKF worked with before he was traded and had a .780 OPS with so I’m hoping that will help IKF set his feet in Pittsburgh. Andy Haines ruins a bunch of hitters.
There are literally like 10-12 “Great defense and solid at the plate” shortstops in the league right now. Volpe at right around middle of the pack is very fair.
By far the most stacked position, but is SS time! Biggest Rise: Ezequiel Tovar, 24 to 15 (9 spots) Biggest Drop: Java Baez, 22 to 30 (8 spots) AND Orlando Arcia, 17 to 25 (8 spots)
You believe a lot more in JP Crawford than I do. As a mariners fan I’d rather have literally almost every shortstop you listed before him minus the first four.
I definitely think Lindor deserves to be above Mookie, honestly Elly does too. Both are far better defensively at the position and had similar if not better offensive production last season.
Baez over IKF genuinely makes no sense. At this point IKF is the better player on the better contract and didn't actively make his team worse last year. He's just a good glove with an inconsistent bat and versatility if needed
having javey above IKF is WILD
Didn’t even start the video but really what are they 25 and 26 ? Chill out😂
Real
To be fair I was trying to be nice😂
@@dontmindmeimjustspectating2871 a 3 war player below a negative war is player is still insane

Brayan Rocchio at 3 is WILD bro! You’re crazy! But I love the Guardians props 🙏🏻
I love your video @fuzzy
Yoooo what’s up Fuzzy i’ve been subbed to you for a long time
I mean what can we say? Rocchio homered against the dodgers this year, doesn’t that count for something????
Bro you crushing this Giraffe guy in Subscribers count 😂😂
Lindor at 4 seems criminal but its crazy how loaded the SS position is
That is so criminal because honestly he is better than mookie betts.
I'd have him above Betts due to defense which Betts isn't that good at (SS version)
@@TheAverageMetsFan11very surprising considering Marc rides the Mets so hard
I'm not a Mets fan, but I'd have him over Mookie for sure.
Maybe at the SS position but I rather have mookie at right field then lindor at short
Brother Idgaf about Brooks Baldwin. Having Javy not last is absolutely insane. Even crazier that you put him above IKF who gives gives actual value.
Think this is the first time a Royal has ever been first in one of your rankings. Been watching every year waiting for this day to come lol
Bobby is the best player in MLB not named Ohtani.
@@brentwalker5726 yup he better than judge
@@epicwolves125 i think he might be. He's gotten WAY better each year. He's still crazy young & might be even better next year.

Jacob Wilson. Of the as turned of beginner when he made it to mlb

YES
HE CARRIED THEM
Jose Caballero for Luke Raley straight up was such an insane W for the Mariners.
All the top 10 shortstops are so good

Geroldo Perdomo at 26 is crazy and you said he’s below average when he was 101 OPS+ last year…
Seriously he’s great defensively, on-base machine, and very very clutch
Then puts Arica right after smh
344 obp every ab he gets to a 3-2 count

This is unique. It seems like the stats get worse the higher the ranking.
1:34 Baez left in Aug for Hip Surgery- THEN the Tigers went on a crazy winning streak to make the playoffs 🤨
Volpe over Winn is absolutely nuts. I don't even know how you can justify this.
Baez over Bobby Witt jr is a HOT take 🥵
The pirates are actually hiring the Blue Jays hitting coach for next year which is the one IKF worked with before he was traded and had a .780 OPS with so I’m hoping that will help IKF set his feet in Pittsburgh. Andy Haines ruins a bunch of hitters.

You will regret putting Seager at 5. Watch.
1 SS Bobby Witt Jr. KC
COMMON BROOKS BALDWIN DUB
The crush I had on him as he was coming through the system is unreal.
“Perdomo is a below average hitter” as the ops+ is 101. He also missed like 2 months. And as a 8 hole hitter he gets on base a lot
And that’s why the Mets will trade for Elly, Witt, and Henderson
perdomo brings his value in leadership dude has better mound visits than the pitching coaches😭

Bobby at #1 is just how it should be!! He is the best

I definitely think Lindor deserves to be above Mookie, honestly Elly does too. Both are far better defensively at the position and had similar if not better offensive production last season.
You can’t discount the offensive pedigree of Betts, who at his best is probably the best offensive player of anybody on this list.
I’m taking Tovar above everyone you listed above him up until Correa personally.
Did that guy in one of mookie’s clips jump over the fence for that ball?
Baez over IKF genuinely makes no sense. At this point IKF is the better player on the better contract and didn't actively make his team worse last year. He's just a good glove with an inconsistent bat and versatility if needed
