  • A detailed video walking through the process of changing/flushing the manual transmission fluid on a 2012 B8 S4 6MT.
    Same basic concept and process should be applicable to most (all?) manual transmission vehicles.
    Parts needed:
    4x Bottles of Transmission Fluid G052911A2
    3x Hex Bolts N91151101

    Appreciate your very descriptive video, and the gotchas like fluid capacities, new stretch bolts, preplan for all the plastic pieces (every piece I touch breaks) that all of us DIY rookie mechanics run into. I am just starting in with a 2008 B8 S5 and finding that I need to pre-buy a ton of plastic/etc parts prior to doing any maintenance. Just did my first walnut blasting of the valves, spark plugs, new RTV gasket on dripping oil pan. Broke 5 electrical connectors, radiator reservoir tube (on top), and throttle body heater post (did JHM delete so was ok) to name a few. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, but everything is like peanut brittle.
    It would be great to have ECS to FCP build a parts kit for ALL commonly replaced or brittle parts to keep the vehicle off the jack stand for extra days waiting for parts (engine bay/under car, etc). Again, much appreciated from a fellow wanna be mechanic that enjoys doing my own maintenance!

    Excellent video. You described the cold shifting exactly as what I have thought on cold mornings and have definitely prompted me to change my trans oil. I would give this video 10/10.

    Thanks for this video! Just to make things easier (and less messy) I'll be ordering new bolts and taking off the x-brace when I get around to replacing the trans fluid on my 4.2L 6MT S5.

    Thank you for this! Just bought a B8 S4 and third gear feels very notchy. I'm sure the fluid has never been changed and it's over 100k. Will be doing this soon!

    Hello great video, two questions, which quick jack did you purchase and what did you do for the jack pads? I have an S4 as well and plan on purchasing the quick jack. Thanks!

    Helpful video overall. I recommend taking the whole cross member off. Then you don't have to deal with a messy oil draining. Not hard to do with a good breaker bar as he mentions. Also, it seems the B8.5's have two 14mm triple square bit type bolts up front vs the hex bolts, FYI.

  • @theclutch19
    @theclutch19 3 роки тому

    Great job - thank you! But why didn't you just take the entire cross brace off so that the oil would flow into your "capture container (TM)" more easily?

    i wonder if the S4 and the A4 have the same transmission
    i notice my trans was a bit notchy when cold and some times have trouble going in to 1st gear will be doing this soon
    my brother in law has a Miata stick shift and he recommended me to change the oil he said its a noticeable difference

    Do you know if this is the same transmission oil I would need for my 2014 S5 manual trans, any idea of the amount of liters as well.

    whats the size of hex for drain and fill plugs?

    Great and very informative video!
    Need to do this on my Q5 2.0TDI.
    Just a question, could you have suctioned the fluid from the fill hole instead of draining it? Think that would make it a much easier job if possible..

    One question: These vehicles don’t have a transmission filter?

    Don’t you have to change gasket and change the transmission filter.?

    Thanks for the video. Might not be the case for all B8s but I was able to reach the drain plug with ball end hex key, at an angle, without the need to touch the subframe cross brace. For those who do need to loosen the cross brace, the repair manual states that vehicle should not be on its wheels if the subframe isn't properly installed.

    • @VoHoO
      @VoHoO  4 роки тому +1

      Yea, I've seen a couple of other folks who said they were able to get to the plug without having to touch the subframe. I wasn't able to get away with it (even with the low profile hex head). And yes, the car needs to be jacked up if/when loosening/tightening the subframe screws.

    • @virtisconsole12
      @virtisconsole12 Рік тому

      Yeah and based on the transmission fluid hitting the X frame brace, it’s best to just take it down and out of the way so you can get a 10mm bit in there flush.. that drain bolt can strip very easily from a angled tool.. last thing you want to do is round out the plug

      Good suggestion. Other option...grind a bit off the hex key in the video.

    Mind sharing where you purchased the hockey puck/jack point extensions? Also, where did you get that plastic oil catch container?

    • @VoHoO
      @VoHoO  4 роки тому +1

      I actually bought the rubber jack point extenders off Amazon. The oil container is from the Container Store (please buy something better for a catch can! :) )

      @@VoHoO Thank you Sir, I shall also look for a better catch can.

    I really need help and i cant seem to find it anywhere. I have a 2010 a4 quattro manual 2.0tfsi. I took the engine out to rebuild it and replaced the clutch while i was at it. for the clutch assembly to come out, you need to take out the front axleshaft out which goes between the disks in transmission. While i did this, i had fluid come out of the transfer case differential from where it was insterted. I cant find a fill hole for the front differential. It seems as if its connected to the transmission and the transmission fluid travels to the front differential but im not sure. Im stuck

    • @VoHoO
      @VoHoO  4 роки тому

      That's my understanding; the transmission fluid is shared with the diff. Get a shop manual (they're pretty cheap online) to confirm

    • @VoHoO
      @VoHoO  4 роки тому

      The process, by and large, is the same for most manual transmission cars. You'll need to search if there's a specific transmission oil needed for your car (my gut says it should be a same, but it's worth confirming)

    Man u need to protect the paint under the wheel arches. Its the spot where paint gets damaged by road debies. Put some impact dampening stuff over that paint
