I like the Classic Laddie a lot, and I also have the Port Charlotte SC:01 2012 Heavily Peated. It is fantastic. They both are excellent, though definitely in contrast to each other.

I agree. Bruichladdich has become the star Islay distillery for me. And The Classic Laddie is a fantastic example of why. They do an amazing job of balancing flavors. Cheers!

I adore this one. Took a little bit to get into it, the strength mainly. At first I had to add water, now I prefer it with nothing, just neat. The nose is incredible, its fresh, sweet, honeyed, slightly sea salty, and spicy. And the taste lingers and lingers. Beautiful is the best way to describe this whisky.
Thanks for sharing, James! Over the years, my appreciation for the care that Bruichladdich takes in creating their different expressions has grown immensely. Beautiful is a great way to describe it. It makes me completely stress-free and i love the taste with some club soda. No other whiskey has made me feel like this. Can you think of any other similar tasting whiskies ?
I love your "sitting on the beach" visual. Since I've had a lot of great experiences with friends while sipping a dram or two, I also get that feeling of fellowship while enjoying whisky. One of my favorite calming Scotch expressions is Signet from Glenmorangie (ua-cam.com/video/6RGCKh2AdNk/v-deo.html). It's too expensive for a nightly pour, but I did cherish having a bottle around to treat myself. Bruichladdich has an even more expensive expression, Black Art, that's delicious, but not enough to justify the price (ua-cam.com/video/EdRuz5zu1e8/v-deo.html). Cheers!
That's true. The Bunnahabhain I have in my cabinet now is their Cruach Mhona, a peated travel exclusive. I bought it in the Sydney airport duty-free shop. The price was good and then I noticed it was a 1 litre bottle at 50% ABV. Such a deal! ;)
I took way too long to try this one. Found it far lighter and more refreshing than I was expecting. Delightful. Which is to say, I largely agree with you. Great video. I’ll have to try it with some water.
Love the Classic Laddie and every time buy a bottle, it goes too quick! I recently got "Islay Barley" and "The Laddie Eight," while they are similar - Classic Laddie is just the much enjoyable whisky from this distillery for me. Great review!
Oddly enough, I just bought a bottle of The Laddie Eight at Barcelona airport for my month-long stay in Spain (most of that in Madrid). I'll be doing a review of it in the near future. Cheers!
I generally prefer peated, smokey whiskey as well but I had hear good things about the Classic Laddie and a few weeks ago I picked up a bottle and was VERY pleasantly surprised. I found it to be spicy and refreshing with a beautiful sweet finish.
Have quite a collection of scotch whiskies, all of which are single malts. I came across Bruichladdich a few years ago and it instantly became one of my favourites, along with Auchentoshan's range. Very smooth, and very drinkable. I've converted more non scotch drinkers with Auchentoshan than any other by the way.
Both Bruichladdich and Auchentoshan are great distilleries. Which Auchentoshan expression do you use as the conversion bottle: Triple Wood, American Oak, or their 12 year?
@@WhiskyRiffs from a price perspective, and an everyday tipple, American Oak (which I think was a rebranding from 'Select' which I certainly remember buying circa 2009 onwards) is retailed at about £34, but often on sale for £23, at which point I usually grab a couple of bottles each time. American Oak has been the whisky to convert non whisky drinkers, and that is neat too, no water, no ice.
had this one recently. the aroma made me feel like i was holding a glass of my fav riesling wine. freshness. straight up, i did not get the sweetness in the mouth. that changed with a few drops of water. aroma went from fresh to ripened fruits, and felt sweeter to drink as well.
The gaudy colour of the bottle kept me from trying this one for years. Well, we don't judge a book by its cover and I should have known better. This is probably my preferred single malt now. I keep trying others, but I keep coming back to Bruichladdich.
I would agree. The smoke flavors are slightly different, but I think you'd enjoy The Classic Laddie. Let me know your thoughts after you get to try it. Cheers!
Agreed. It's a beautiful distillery that has such heart and soul. While other distilleries can feel like a corporate operation, Bruichladdich to me feels like a family business. Cheers!
Off putting because of the bright light blue color? Because that threw me off too when I first saw it. After I found out how much I love it, I now appreciate being able to spot it so easily in my whisky cabinet. Cheers!
I’m a bourbon drinker and I’ve tried several scotches; Johnny Walker Green and Dalmore 12 were the ones I came close to genuinely enjoying, Monkey Shoulder, not quite as much. Others I never finished the bottle, gave it away or threw it out. I like Irish whiskey; notably Redbreast and years ago a bottle of Jamison 18. Slane I keep on the bar for mixing the occasional whiskey sour but I don’t enjoy it neat as much as Redbreast or Greenspot. How does a completely unpeated scotch differ from an Irish? What scotches would you recommend for a bourbon drinker?
Hi Brad, thanks for sharing. I love Redbreast 12, for me it's buttery and very easy on the palate because of the Sherry finish. Green Spot is a favorite of mine as well. Irish Pot Still can be so much smoother because of the triple pot still distillation. Single Malt Scotch is usually double distilled only. But you might like Glenfarclas 12, if the Sherry notes are part of what you enjoy. But if you really prefer bourbon and Irish whiskey, stick with them. Cheers!
The classic laddie is probably my favourite non peated whisky. Port Charlotte 10 is amazing. I also have Black Art 7.1 and Octomore 10.1 both excellent
