  • Hello This week is home IV nutrition awareness week. In celebration of this event, I wanted to share how I set up my IV nutrition. This is my bag of IV nutrition. It is also called TPN (total parenteral nutrition). It comes in two forms. One bag is white and the other bag is clear. The clear bag has water dextrose, amino acids and electrolytes such as calcium, chloride and sodium. This white bag has the exact same items in it, except it also has lipids. Lipids are fatty molecules which are white. When they are added to the TPN, it turns the TPN solution white.
    I do three bags of the lipids each week and 4 clear bags each week. Join me this week as I share how I spike my TPN bag, prime the tubing, add multivitamins to my TPN and connect the tubing to my TPN pump. Happy Home Parenteral Nutrition Awareness Week! #godismystrength #tpn #homemedicine

      @@biteme-rz3ws The cost for TPN and all the other supplies needed to infuse the TPN such as saline, alcohol wipes, TPN pump rental, etc., is about $1,000 a day. The cost with health insurance depends on what health insurance a person has. It can range from $0 to $1,000 a day.

    Wow! People who will need or get homecare should take heed - there are LOTS of little steps to routine tasks that need to preparation. A bit of planning, even on such things as having a place to set things while doing complex activities, goes a long way.

    Hi lovely vent lady 💗 wow!!!! I cannot believe how much work goes in to setting up your feeding tube! When you were injecting multi vitamins in to the port with a needle how is it when you tip it back up it does not leak out of the needle hole? I can't believe all of that liquid goes in to your body! And I would be scared of pricking myself with the needle! The care you take not to contaminate everything is brilliant!
    I bet when you first got all this feeding equipment you thought you would never be able to do it on your own! Every 12 weeks a nurse changes my indwelling Foley catheter,like you with your trach a balloon has to be deflated to get the catheter out,the balloon is full of 10ml of water to keep the catheter in place! I have to keep everything sterile so as not get a UTI,I have had 8 yrs of doing this! I am not being nosey here & you don't have to answer but do you have a catheter to save trips to the toilet with all that fluid in your system? I call my catheter my external bladder! I do get paranoid that people can hear the pee splashing in my leg bag! I tend to use a 500ml bag & 2 litre one at night,what I love is I don't get up in the night for the toilet hence the big bag on a stand like your feeding one! Being disabled can be very hard but funny at times! Keep fighting & producing more videos,some you tubers have a way of letting their subscribers contribute to the costs of making the videos,I would be willing to contribute to your costs! 💗💗💗

      Hello. Thank you for your lovely message. As long as I keep the needle pointing up to the ceiling, gravity prevents the needle from leaking. If I point the needle down, a little bit does leak, but that is why I have towels to catch anything which may have leaked.
      No, I do not have a catheter. I frequently have to get up and go to the bathroom during the night. But that is ok. It is only a small inconvenience.
      Thank you for your offer about contributing to my costs. At this time, I cannot accept any donations.

    Hi there have you thought about having a port put in instead of a pick line. I’ve used both and I much rather have my port in my chest. I’m able to access the port by myself if there is an emergency and my sister is not available at the time needed for treatment. It was just a question is all. Thanks for this very informative video. Have a blessed Sunday.

    Im helping my mom w TPN and the air in the line issue is keeping us up at night, does it happen to you? Also her sugar level spikes and I need to give her insulin but at times she just feels awful bc sugar level is so high

    • @GodisMyStrength
      @GodisMyStrength  Рік тому

      Hello. Thank you for sharing some of your concerns. For the air in the line: Are you hanging the bag of TPN up on a pole or a hook while the bag of TPN is infusing? Hanging the TPN up will help any air bubbles rise to the top of the bag while the TPN is infusing.
      Also, when priming the bag of TPN, make sure the bag is completely vertical (i.e., upright). The bag of TPN needs to be primed when hanging uptight.
      There could also be an issue with the TPN pump. Please contact the pharmacy and ask if they can help you troubleshoot the problem.
      As for your mom's blood sugar issues, have you talked to her nurse or the nurse at the infusion company or pharmacy? There are adjustments they can make to her infusion schedule to potentially help with her blood sugar issues.
      Does she have a blood glucose monitor? A blood glucose monitor would be helpful to use. It may be beneficial to test her blood sugar every 15-20 minutes to find out when her blood sugar starts to rise. Keep a record of her blood sugar levels and see if there are any patterns to her blood sugar levels. This can be used to help tailor her TPN infusions.

    Thank you for the detailed information. I have hyperemesis sue to pregnancy and am expected to get TPN soon as I'm not able to eat. On a good day I'll get 5 bites of food in a 24 hour period but it immediately gets thrown up. I'm only 11 weeks but I've already lost 23 lbs since I found out at 6 weeks, and the weight keeps coming off. I'm completely emaciated and my body feels like it's eating itself alive. I'm absolutely miserable. I currently have a PICC line for hydration that helps, and a medicine pump that does not help. Please tell me, will this help with the pain of muscle wasting and hunger?

    • @GodisMyStrength
      @GodisMyStrength  8 місяців тому

      Hello. Thank you for sharing some of your story with me. I am sorry you are going through so much. Yes, TPN will help with hunger. When I run my TPN, I am not hungry. Also, the TPN has protein in it. This should help your body stop muscle wasting and should allow your body to rebuild the muscle it has lost.
      I am not sure if you have tried this, or if it will help you. Ginger is one of the best anti-nausea medicines. When I get super sick (and am vomiting profusely), I suck on ginger chews or crystalized ginger. There are also ginger candies called Gin Gins Double Strength Hard Ginger Candy. The candies are very tasty and quell light to moderate nausea. The ginger chews and crystallized ginger seem to be stronger and help with severe nausea.
      (FYI, many ginger ales have zero ginger in it. It is only ginger flavored soda. If you have tried ginger ale, and it has not worked for you, maybe try pure ginger such as ginger chews or crystalized ginger.)
      I hope you are soon on the path to better health.

      P.S. Sorry if this is more unsolicited advice or if you have already tried this: I was just talking to my friend who is a medical doctor specializing in OBGYN. She strongly suggests trying acupuncture for your hyperemesis. She says her clinic has a very high success rate with using acupuncture.
