- Expanded Freeze in a lowball-sized package! Meeting between the original Freeze and Superego pedals is the Pico Deep Freeze Sound Retainer. With the ability to freeze a moment in sound, the Deep Freeze can act as a sustain pedal for holding chords and notes as backing for your playing or as a platform to manipulate your tone into new sounds impossible with a normal guitar. In addition to the original Freeze’s abilities, the Deep Freeze features layering, adjustable attack/decay speeds, glissando, dedicated volume controls, and 3 modes: Latch, Moment, and Auto, making it powerful pedal punching well above its weight.

The Deep Freeze allows for instant sound freezing in three modes of operation. Latch freezes sound each time the footswitch is pressed until the effect is bypassed, while Moment mode freezes sound only while the footswitch is held down. Auto mode captured sound automatically each time it senses signal above its threshold for virtually foot-free freezes. These three modes make it easy to operate the Deep Freeze in a way that fits any playing style.
Controls on the Deep Freeze let you further tailor the operation of the effect. Separate DRY and EFFECT volume controls let you blend signals from subtle backing to 100% effect experimentation. GLISS adjusts the morph time between freeze sounds creating otherworldly soundscapes. The SPEED/LAYER knob adjusts either the attack/decay time of the effect in Moment and Auto modes, or the amount of layering possible in Latch mode which makes playing impossible chords possible!

Superego+. All the control you want, send it outthrough a splitter in some nice mod delay reverbchain, seperate it eve n more from the dry sound

This is awesome
The original freeze has a loud click noise every time you step on the pedal. I had the switch modded to avoid the clicking noise. Does this pedal have the same clicking noise when you step on it?
I've owned 3 originals. Never had that issue. 1st was stolen, 2nd I broke the mini toggle, and 3rd is on my board now. Maybe you had a dud. EHX has always been great at not having those sorts of qualities.

Which switch did you use in the Deep Freeze? I own the predecessor (and I love it!!!), but the switch is way too loud! Did you use soft switches in this series? Would be SO cool!! Greetz!
Not a soft switch but the click is very quiet compared to the original footswitch when the pedal was release. The Freeze now comes with a soft switch.

Hi there, what I am really searching for is a pedal that can give me a scat jazz singing effect. Roland have a synth that does this but I'm not interested in all the other effects. Love it if Electro-Harmonix could produce this effect in a pedal.
Any tips for where to place in the signal chain? My initial thought was behind drives and distortions, but looks as though you got great sounds from placing before and after
You can place either way and the sound is different. Best to try both ways and see what sounds best to you. Same thing for pitch shifters

That really depends on the distortion circuit... I'd try both and listen to what you feel sounds best for what you're trying to do. Personally, I'd place it after distortion to maintain the integrity of my gain pedals characteristics.

0:50 is that a new version of the Freeze on the right??? It looks like the whole pedal is painted white instead of the old EHX pedals that are the bare metal case with a label on the face, like the superego on the left... Confused why they would be making that if the Deep Freeze seems to be able to do everything the old one could plus a lot more? Unless they were making an updated looking version of the freeze before, and they abandoned it to make the Deep Freeze for the pico line. Interesting
how low does it track? i love my freeze but my main grope woth it is that it doesn't handle the low B (of a bass)
Interesting. I have the original Freeze pedal, which I try to incorporate into my setup; even pairing with a Blurst to add some additional movement to a drone. Turning it more into a sustain isn't the direction I personally expected it to go and was thinking more along the lines of some built-in reverb effects.

The freeze has been around before the superego. I believe the notable difference between the two is that on the freeze it only freezes 1 layer while the super ego can freeze multiple

Nice, but at ~$50 more than the original, I'll stick with my original. IMHO, the new pico line is overpriced.

Everything has gone up in the last four years.
Interesting pedal, but I'll stick with my Schecter guitar that has the sustainiac in it. My personal experience with pedals that add tons of sustain is that you either get tons of static, too, OR you end up with notes sounding as though they are on a repeat with subtle clipping. Might just be my own experience over the years.
Couldn't you just use a looper pedal and get the same effect? I don't get it.
