if you dont have enought money for a 5800x go for 5600(non x=lowkey the same).

I'd still like to upgrade though I now have to get a pricey air cooler or 360mm AIO in order to get any of the three final bosses of AM4. So since mostly what I do atm is gaming after work, it makes little sense, but considering what I'm aiming to do by this time next year if not sooner, it makes no sense to cripple my performance possibilities elsewhere to just have the better gaming while having worse than 5800x performance on a lot of other areas to the point it's not a massive enough upgrade over 3700x anywhere but gaming. A 5950x, however, would be literally double the cores and still respectable gaming performance which is why I settled on that when prices fall and I have better use cases.

It's the same frame rate. 200+ With cpus like 12gen or 5800x3d... The big value win for the 5800X3D is that I (and a lot of other people out there) already have an X370, X470, or even a B450 board that's compatible, bringing the CPU upgrade down to the same price as a motherboard and CPU from Intel for worse performance.
Excellent comparison, and I think the best option for gamers is to wait for AM5 / whatever Intel's next platform is if they can. Otherwise, I'd get a second hand AM4 system with something like a 2600.

    • @jondasek
      @jondasek 2 роки тому +4

The 2600 is long dead, it doesn't offer sufficient performance not to be a bottleneck even with lower end cards like RTX 3060. The 3600 barely delivers that. Also, the second hand prices for older Ryzens aren't so good it'd be worth it to go for them instead of like the 5600.

Steve, you somehow forgot where the real value in purchasing each of these CPUs is; the real value in buying a 12700f/k is for not necessarily being cheaper itself but also being the midrangish on a brand new socket, whereas 5800X3D is now on a dead platform; likewise the real value in a 5800X3D isn't on building a new system (that makes it pretty bad value considering you'd be sacrificing DDR5, PCIe5 etc. and an upgrade path to next gen to get EOL) but on upgrading an existing one.
To me that's where the only real sensible comparison is on these things, because as someone on AM4 the 12700k is a no brainer if building new, and ironically placing it in the position Intel was in last year where having the upgrade path to Zen3 is exactly why I built on AM4 with a 3700x to begin with, except even now it's not as good in the sense I'd be able to upgrade to DDR5 and PCIe 5 later with a high end 13000k series after buying probably a 12600k this gen. Meanwhile a big reason there's the interest in 5800X3D is because so many people are on AM4 at this point that we're all basically looking at one of three classes of the final boss of AM4: the tanky 5950x for best multicore, the jack-of-all 5900x for gaming without losing some prosumer skills, and the wizard class 5800X3D powergamer.

I got a 12700kf when it came out. Not to jump over to DDR5, but rather to avoid having to do so. I upgraded so I can get another round of usage from my existing RAM. If you have a good DDR4 kit, going DDR5 isn't really helping you, on the contrary, it might actually be worse because slower latencies. Plus DDR5 is expensive.
If I was to build a new system _now,_ I'd frankly probably go with 5800X3D because it's kind of a unicorn for gaming. I'd rather stay with DDR4 for now and I don't see much use for PCIe5 yet so old platform is a pretty moot point. Performance is all that matters in the end, and I buy whatever performs best in a price range I'm comfortable paying.

Especially as component demands for defense purposes ramp up. All things considered, I think it makes sense to keep rolling out upgrades for AM4. @Transistor Jump Enlighten me on your POV perhaps. Understand I'm talking about relative to its contemporaries. This channel has already shown us how much more cache has an effect than raw core count. Still quads have a rough time in games today as far as frame consistency. Games got to a point of genuinely benefitting from more than 8 threads by the end of the last console generation. The 12700K has an extra 4 threads but we are a long way off from a point where the majority of what'll be console ports needing more than 16 threads. The only other thing to invalidate a CPU would be some new instruction set, which would effect both these CPUs equally. Over the useful life of both these CPUs one could go through many generations of GPUs and eventually one will be far worse than the other at providing a consistent experience. Averages can be skewed by having very high Max fps at moments that are completely inconsequential. Worse lows would eventually wreck the experience.
In the tested configuration, DDR 4 is the worst version of the 12700K. So other your options are to pay way more upfront on Z690 with DDR 5, or pay twice to eventually get the most out of it. There aren't many other variables where it's going to end up better than the 5800X3D for gaming alone. Especially for the kind of person still on something like a 4790K or older. Plenty of those sold as part of an EOL platform. Well, after not being the newest CPU available, since it was always the last option for Z97.

My conclusion a month ago when I ordered and built my parts (so before this video).
Was to get the i7 12700 with b660 ddr4 board. This vs the K variant is almost no difference in gaming maybe 0.5% difference in games. and about 1-2% different to the i9 12900k.
But the added cost of getting an external cooler, the K series premium price and the Z series unlocked board equates to another £250 of expenses for that amount of difference just for the i7 alone, not even thinking of the i9 here.
And I was right, when I push my CPU with p95 it can pull 200w and sit around 170-180w at longer durations. Yeah it is maybe 100mhz lower than the i7 12700k, but you aren't overclocking that chip anyway when you need to cool ~200w and there's not much headroom.

Yeah, it is rather awesome for the price. Plus i don't really need much overclocking for these hot chips. 5800x3D here goes for 600 euros, quite insane, but it is the fastest. 12700kf 410 euros, 12700f is 340-350 euros

Buying 5800x3d is not great purchase by its on , but if you have motherboard , ram and everything else and you need just to update bios and put new cpu in ,its much more logical then investing in new platform.
So in the end 5800x3d is best purchase if you want best gaming performance just by upgrade and if you dont 5700x or 5800x is great option as well.

Go with the 12700 if you’re building a new system the resale value will be better since it’s better at production, and gaming wise you won’t notice the difference. You will be able to upgrade to 13th Gen, Ryzen you will be stuck.

5800X and 12700KF are essentially equal in terms of price to performance. 5800X is a bit weaker, but also a bit cheaper. Comparing either of them to the X3D doesn't make sense. The X3D is a halo product. As is the 12900K/12900KS. Halo products will *always* have a worse price to performance. When compared to what the X3D is actually competing against, it's better, by a lot. When comparing the 5800X and 12700K, it honestly just depends on your mobo. I personally have a B450 currently, so if I ever upgrade, it will be to a Zen 3 chip. If you have the 12th gen Intel socket, obviously upgrade to Intel. If you're buying a new computer, wait. New cpus are just around the corner.

I went with the 5800x3D and I plan to use it for 5 years.
I wanted to say the CPU is running little hot and doing the offset -0.1V makes a lot of difference in temperature and the performance is only hit when you are using all cores as the limit is 4.35Ghz. Otherwise, the cores are reaching 4.5GHz.

@@shiraz1736 didn't say not to. I've been on 12th gen since launch tho. I basically only play warzone and was on a 5800x. Way more of an upgrade than they depict here. Solid 25% gain to 1% lows. Nobody should buy now if they don't need to tho. Wait for both generations to launch from AMD and Intel then choose. Ddr5 might come down by then to. It's actually not terribly priced in Canada but still could be better.
