@@slimbombur7922 HW always chose actresses on youth & physical appeal. If a single film was successful they cast them in everything, talented or otherwise. For DEI reasons Zendaya & Zeigler are current 'darlings'. Prior, Kirsten Dunst, Dakota Fanning, Kristen Stewart. HW complains older actresses faces don't move (i.e. NIcole Kidman) but also won't hire them if they look their age so on the odd occasion they really need one dash to the UK. The last time I absolutely loved an Award Show was The 1993 Oscars - the last one where Billy Crystal was at the top of his game. The big titles that year were Unforgiven, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Aladdin, Howard's End, My Cousin Vinny and The Last of the Mohicans. Among the presenters were Jack Palance, Joe Pesci, Sophia Loren, Denzel Washington, Dustin Hofmann, Anthony Hopkins, Morgan Freeman, Gene Hackman and Jack Nicholsen. Billy was perfect. The year after, they brought in Whoopi.
Ha! LOVE LAST OF THE MOHICANS!…. Early 90s was very Native American centric….. heck even Jean Claude Vann Dame’s Street Fighter had a ton of Native American Actors….. funny I didn’t even noticed….
The Oscars are legendary for snubbing classic movies at their time of release. "Citizen Kane," "Taxi Driver," "The Shawshank Redemption," "Raging Bull," "Goodfellas," "Blade Runner," "The Shining," "Heat," "The Big Lebowski," "Apocalypse Now," "Saving Private Ryan," and "Do The Right Thing."
And so on and so on and so on, it’s nothing but political ass kissing bs. Take Jake Gylennhal’s incredible performance in Nightcrawler, which was undoubtedly the best performance of that year, where he nor the movie itself were nominated except for some best screenplay or something. Naturally, people started talking about how utterly ludicrous it was that he wasn’t nominated to which Jake replied that he doesn’t give af about awards. With award nominations you have to actually campaign & ass kiss at brunches with Hollywood cronies etc and he had zero interest in doing that so he in turn got no recognition which makes the entire system INVALID. All of these award shows should be completely ignored 🤦🏻♀️
Pearce Brosnan used to be my least favorite Bond, but then along came Daniel Craig with his stupid sulking face and sullen attitude, portraying the Deconstructist Bond, a weak and insipid fool that wasn’t a suave or dapper gentleman spy, but a mindless dreg that was never a compelling protagonist let alone an interesting character. Craig was all the more disappointing as Bond, because you can tell he was cast due to his vague Connery or Moore-ish qualities, but was just the vandals and brutes in Hollyweird and entertainment’s excuse to rip apart what was Bond, with a nimrod that looked more the part. Daniel Craig is the worst Bond in history, with his stupid pouty b’tch face and lack of a spine, he never should have been in the role, since he’s a ‘ghey’ man trying to ‘appropriate’ and mock straight people culture. (To use these morons’ anti-logic against them)
I have large gaps in caring about Hollywood awards ceremonies. It goes: Don't Care - Lord of the Rings Era - Don't Care - Ricky Gervais' Last Globes - Don't Care
Dude, you gotta pop a gap in for Heath Ledgers win. I think that was the last time I heard of all the top nominees and watched a good chunk of the films. After the "Oscars so white" mess it got significantly worse. Every win after that feels like a D E I initiative.
@sianais I will admit that Heath's performance as Joker is legendary. Even so, I didn't bother with the Oscars that year either. There wasn't a single movie up for best motion picture that interested me. So, while I'm happy that Heath was recognised (albeit posthumously) the overall nominees don't deserve a gap for me personally. 😊
I say we encourage the Academy; that affair did goose their ratings, after all. We need to get them to double down, so maybe next year Robert Downey Jr. will kick Ellen Degeneres in the cooch, or something.
And true the last time I cared about an award show was when Ricky gave everyone in that room a correct talking down to lol. Companies and celebs need to be reminded they’re actually NOBODIES in the grand scheme of the universe. Their power and fame and status is fake, given to them by OUR waining interest in them ALL.
As a Greek, i find it hilarious that many critics use Greek words in their critiques in order to sound more sophisticated and smart but obviously do not really understand the meaning of the words they use.
@@arostwocents I've almost never seen/heard that sentence written/uttered by anyone who actually knew enough to see how they are two sides to the same coin. Horseshoe theory is real. They are both just ways of implementing authoritarian collectivism where egalitarian individualism should be. "Rightwing" extremism (fascism isn't always rightwing, leftwing fascism exists) and "leftwing" extremism (the so-called rightwing fascist Nazi party was in fact a far left socialist regime even if historians will argue the opposite tooth and nail since the winners write the history books and rejecting the "right" pushed us further to the left than we ever should have went as a society) are the same thing in the end. It's all just extremism. People always forget they trade places cyclically over time too. A conservative these days is a "classical" or "true liberal" because they believe in basic rights and freedoms and equality of opportunity (historically in the US the republicans were the more left/liberal ones that abolished slavery whereas the democrats were all big business and pro-slavery). Liberals are seemingly anything but these days, as they advocate for big government and a nanny state (equity of outcome) happily signing away basic rights and freedoms for false promises of safety and a perfectly balanced and "fair" utopia they will never get precisely due to that flawed M.O. (not unlike any other marxist/socialist/communist ...or actual fascists for that matter, not that there are any worrisome amount of them and especially in positions of power regardless of what all the far left propaganda machines blast 24/7 with their relentless firehose of falsehoods). People will argue till they are blue or red in their faces about whether libertarians are right or left and ffs don't get them started on left and right communism or anarchism smh lol. It's all just pretentious gobbledegook not unlike that sommelier ranting nonsense words about the rotten grapes he's arbitrarily fetishizing. Every and anyone who is not afflicted with/compromized by the mind-virus knows the truth. Real eyes realize real lies. Leftwing extremist accelerationism is a big problem and Yuri Brezmenov warned us back in '84 it was coming and told us exactly how cultural marxism would operate (by infecting the schools first, then the entertainment and corporate worlds, and finally our leftwing governmental parties). The only thing he got kinda wrong was it wasn't the Russians and/or the Chinese that did it. It was our 1% extremely wealthy and highly privileged elites (who lets be honest are probably influenced/controlled in myriad ways by kompromat gathered over time by the KGB and various CCP intelligence agencies due to their debauchery and double-dealings in those oppressive authoritarian countries whose elites they probably envy for the power, wealth and control they have over others which no man should possess). “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help.'” - Ronald Reagan (Reagan was a great movie btw, i recommend everyone watches it, Dennis Quaid was great and it does a lot of work trying to counter some of the decades of propaganda that villainized one of the greatest American presidents, even their tongue-in-cheek hollywood-esque send-up over the top lionization of him was pretty funny and interesting to watch, a very hard line to walk all things considered)
As a woman I hate most of the films that are vomited out of Hollywood. My all time favourites are Scarface, Goodfellas, The Departed and the Shining I guess I’m not their target audience.
Ricky Gervais speech was too ahead of its time and it was "shocking" for that people to hear him there... But all of what he said is more than truth and that is why they hated it LOL
My family all saw 'The Green Book' in theatres. It's actually an excellent movie that deserved its awards. The woke crowd just hated it because it showed a white man having good qualities & being able to help a black guy. So they called it racist because it was about the characters & friendships and not black-victim virtue signaling. Hidden Figures & Jojo Rabbit were also good movies. But yes - relatively mid-budget fun movies aren't made anymore. Which is a shame. People wouldn't make movies like "Sky High", "Matilda", "Troop Beverly Hills", etc. anymore. Also, you included a clip of Philomena Cunk! I love her comedy.
You do realise that Philomena Cunk is just basically Charlie Brooker's writing, right? He created the character for his Newswipe programme on BBC 2, along with Barry Shitpeas. Cunk On.. is one of the only programmes he still makes for the BBC, since he signed a deal with Netflix for Black Mirror.
It was great to see a real example of speaking truth to power rather than the woke version- extremely rich privileged people insulting the working class

I stopped caring about award ceremonies back in the 80s. And that feeling was concreted when Jethro Tull beat out Metallica for best Hard Rock/Metal song.
I remember that. My 90 yr old roomie was thrilled but I remember how ridiculous it was and thinking how clueless those who chose Jethro Tull were by choosing them.
LOL I saw that back in the day. We thought it was some kind of historical war movie, turned out to be about running... My first disappointment at a theater.
It's like a telling of The Emperor's New Clothes, where they are told that only smart people can see the clothes, so anyone who doesn't see it must not be smart enough. And since no one wants to be thought of as stupid, they pretend and use impressive language to convince people they can see it. But the rest of us just see an ugly naked man running around.
Disparu’s a retarded hater who just makes incorrect assumption about and judges things he’s never seen. Even mauler loves Jojo Rabbit. Taika is an assclown and a hack though.
I had a year during college where I went out of my way to see a lot of the Oscar-winning and nominated movies of that year, at lest in categories I was interested in. Suffice to say it was one of the most boring and baffling movie experiences I've had with a lot of movies I would probably otherwise not have seen willingly. It was also the year when Juno won for best screenplay. Still can't get my head around that one.
Taylor Swift is seriously tied in with P Diddy anyways. Actually P Diddy has got me wondering. Is woke coming from him. He would be advocating for racial issues as well as LGBT issues. That's woke. He might have even advocated for MeToo as a coverup. Is Disney connected to P Diddy? That's the important question now.
Ricky Gervis calling out the circle jerk that is the award shows was and still is the highlight of that event. Quentin Tarantino and Christopher Nolan are basically humiliating themselves by praising Joker 2 that was basically a massive F-U to the fans of the first film and that doesn't work out for the director of that film and Gladiator 2 was anything but great for I do not remember a Roman having a New York accent(Denzel's character) and his planning just working for no real reason other then the plot said so and that just shows that Ridley Scott needs to retire for he doesn't have that spark anymore.
Netflix knows exactly how many people watched and re-watched everything they available at any time. What they don't do is publish that information to the outside world, it's all private to the point that even the producers don't know if their offering were popular. DEIsney, Hulu and Prime are all the same, the only time you know something was very successful is when they brag about it, like they did "Squid Game".
If anything the data they have is going to be very accurate; the only thing they won't have is how many people are sitting on the couch. Streaming services not only have how many times you watched it, but will also have details of when you pause to either nip to the toilet or get a brew, which parts you skip, which parts you re-watch again etc.
The saddest part is the fact that “the people that SHOULD CARE are the ones in control! And they don’t give a sh!t”!!! And that is why everything is failing and why NOTHING will ever change/get better again!!!
"Warholian Bluff" ... when inscrutable pretension is celebrated specifically because the vast majority "just don't get it". Like a banana taped to a wall at an art gallery or the music of Tori Amos.
The weird thing is that many truly iconic low budget movies with amazing acting performances that could be described as "artsy" have been systematically ignored by the Oscars in the last decade. Things like The VVitch ($4M budget, $40M box office), Hereditary ($10M budget, $87M box office), Midsommar ($9M budget, $48M box office). Movies lovingly made after a PhD-level amount of historical / cultural research with OCD attention to details that most people have at least *heard about* because of their cultural significance, even if they do not like them - the kind of movie the Oscars used to reward before. Now they reward boring, unsubtle humanities lectures written in modern newspeak no one has heard of and will be entirely forgotten by next year.

I work as an assistant director (Vancouver film industry) and I honestly don’t know anyone else in the industry who gives a damn about the awards or the egos of the actors. I’ve had some amazing people like the cast on Lost in Space and Shogun, but I’ve also worked with Amber Heard and Ezra Miller. They’re just people, some good some awful. The inflated egos are insufferable. But I find directors to be far more unbearable and problematic. Shogun was the single time I ever cared about the awards, because I know how hard everyone worked on it. Besides that, never been interested.
I used to work in a museum. The four most important words you can learn are "challenges the discursive narrative." Doesn't mean anything, but it sounds smart.
Bit harsh to lower circus clowns to the level of actors. Circus clown is an honourable profession, with guilds, and standards. Acting is... well, you know what they get up to.
Hollywood actors have always had massive egos. The difference now is the executive management that have chosen particular sets of actors for their own culture shaping purposes. The actors aren't the problem - the decision makers are the problem.
I can count on one hand how many times I deemed a movie worth going to the theater for, and still have a finger to flip off Hollywoke with. I do not even waste time watching most new movies on Netflix any more. I only keep Netflix to watch all the old movies and series that I like, back when they still cared about making good content instead of pushing messages.
I cannot way for Zendaya to go the way of Megan Fox and disappear. Both have about the same acting talent, but Fox was at least nice to look at... she, not so much. Also, what is with actors not using their real names but made up fake ones? I can understand rock stars, but actors?
Same I was surprised it was trashed on! You really need to know Holocaust history first to understand the nuances of jokes and the horrors of what’s actually going on. It’s the perfect balance of dark humor and raw societal commentary. The ending part had me laughing hysterically and sobbing uncontrollably at the same time!
Roast comedian Nikki Glaser is hosting this year's Golden Globes. I've heard her set and it is definitely in the vein of Ricky Gervais. For example, something like: "In The Bear, Jeremy Allen White plays a hot chef. In Nobody Wants This, Adam Brody plays a hot Rabbi. In Shrinking, Jason Segel plays a therapist." She then proceeds to make a joke about Zendaya being FUGLY.

I just googled the best picture award from the last ten years, and I didn't know any of them. I only remembered the name of one of them. I watched Birdman in 2014 and that was... watchable. All of the movies from the 1990s to 2005 are either classics, or damn good movies. From 2006-2015, you get a couple of good ones, and nothing decent since 12 Years a Slave in 2013.

And so on and so on and so on, it’s nothing but political ass kissing bs.
Take Jake Gylennhal’s incredible performance in Nightcrawler, which was undoubtedly the best performance of that year, where he nor the movie itself were nominated except for some best screenplay or something.

I'm sure they collect very detailed stats
They were able to track that 1 person in 2018 watched the LOTR trilogy over 300 times.. they can definitely track how many views each movie/show gets.
