I'm 72 and I've seen a lot of live music in my time, including Led Zeppelin at the Fillmore East in '69 on acid (me, maybe them?), Hendrix, Santana, McLaughlin, too many to list, all of them seen back in the day when they were on fire. So, I'm not easily impressed but I'd have no reservations placing Maximillian in the pantheon of great rock guitarists. The Main Squeeze as a band is as tight as they come, if they were around in the 60's, they'd be as famous as the greats of that time. This rendition of Comfortably Numb is unfuckingbelievable!

The first thing everybody thinks about when listening to this song is David Gilmour's profound artistic expression in his solos and if the guitarist covering them will be able to even come close to that level of "feeling", and whether those licks will be honored or just repeated. Max does as good a job at honoring David's work as anyone possibly could. From a sound guy, the mixing was exceptional. From a Pink Floyd junkie, this rendition was special in every way.

I uhhh.... I didn't think anyone could ever take Gilmour's solo and really add anything, so I figured most people would just try to play his solo note for note and here Max comes along and just plays something magical AGAIN. This is just beyond incredible. Max needs to sit in with Goose!!! Also, HUGE shout out to whoever engineered and mixed this as well as the entire band just being incredible as always. Was lucky enough to catch you guys right before Covid a few years back. Would love to see you again!

I liked that. I liked how you made the solo your own instead of trying to match the original but not getting it right. Better for the listener knowing, "ok this is completely original, rather than constantly trying to figure out where you are supposed to be in one of Gilmour's various versions of the solo"

  • @joelecho

Max standing in the back quietly for the first 2/3 of the performance and then setting everything on fire at the end has Prince playing While My Guitar Gently Weeps energy. When it's not his spotlight, he needs none of it, when it IS his moment, I couldn't imagine the moment belonging to anyone else.
There are about 5 people on earth who can play that solo differently than the recording and enhance the magic instead of ruin it, and one of the is David Gilmour himself. Max is another. You've got the magic, man. It's not technique or knowledge, though you have those things too, but it's just that magic that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up from only the sound of an electric guitar.
Thanks for reminding me why I play.

Just when I thought Gilmour had squeezed every last note out of that solo, you guys manage to both make an incredible tribute to the source material, but go beyond and push it to your own unique take. Holy shit that was beautiful. The Floyd should be proud. 🤘🏻

The way that Max and the drummer battles is wild. It really contributes to the build up of the peak of the song/guitar solo and really feeds both musicians that energy to use their imaginations and creativity within the song 🤯
