    Where did you get the replacement transfer case from? And how much did it cost you around? I think i need to replace mine.

      I got it from my garage and it was free 🤣 I have so many parts for these trucks that I could just about build one out of the parts I have collected over the years.

    Dark horse I'm about to drop my transmission and put a new one in my 2003 F350 7.3.l ... My question is can I drop my transfer case first without tampering with my transmission? And should I drain my transfer case fluid before taking it out?.. please reply back thank you sir..

    • @darkhorseautoanddiesel
      @darkhorseautoanddiesel  23 дні тому +1

      Yeah you can take the transfer case out separately from the transmission, then drop the trans by itself. I usually remove and reinstall them as an assembly though. You don't have to drain the fluid out of either one before removal, although draining will make them a little bit lighter and possibly less messy if you happen to tip one too far over, less to leak out of the vents.

    99' Triton v10. Transmission goes into gears but vehicle won't move. Grinds when I shift it from in gear back into park. Forums tell me it is likely the transfer case. Does this sound correct? If so, where did you pick up your replacement? Thanks!

    • @darkhorseautoanddiesel
      @darkhorseautoanddiesel  Рік тому +1

      The forums are likely correct. You'll know for sure once you get it out of the truck by spinning the input and output shafts. I had mine laying around the shop from one of the many parts trucks I've had over the years. They can be had at salvage yards pretty affordably, especially if you have a self service one near you like an LKQ or something.

    Have you ever used an additive with your fluid?

    • @darkhorseautoanddiesel
      @darkhorseautoanddiesel  3 місяці тому +2

      Nope. I don't use any additives in any oils or fluids. All oils have certain additive packages already in them, and unless you've done analysis to know exactly how much of what is in both the oil and the bottle of snake oil you're dumping in it and how the chemistry will react, I would stay away from them. You might do more harm than good.
      There is only 2 exceptions I make to that rule. 1 is Hot Shot Secret Stiction Eliminator for 6.0 power strokes for sticking injectors. The other is Lucas Oil Stabilizer, and ONLY if the engine is already about to come apart internally from something like a rod knocking, and that I need it to hold together long enough to get it home so, I'd dump that heavy base oil with no additives at all in it, (the stuff literally dilutes the engine oil's additive package) just to thicken the oil enough to quiet things down.

    I broke the conntecter with the red tab you push down. Is it OK to run with out it?

    • @darkhorseautoanddiesel
      @darkhorseautoanddiesel  10 місяців тому

      If it's just the red part you broke, you'll be fine, it's just a redundant securement thing to ensure that it doesn't come loose. Even though the odds of it coming loose without it are like next to none.

    do you know what size bolts hold the t-case to the transmission?

  • @azeeninety55
    @azeeninety55 Рік тому +1

    I'm hearing a ticking/grinding sound from my transfer case on my 99 f250 SD I also had a loose bolt which was leaking fluid but not the drain or fill plug it was one of the bolts holding the transfer case on. All my gears work and truck drives do you think I just need to add more fluid to the case? Or just bang it out and put a used one in?

    • @darkhorseautoanddiesel
      @darkhorseautoanddiesel  Рік тому +1

      Since one of the bolts holding the case halves together was loose and fluid was leaking that means the seal around the case halves is compromised. At the very least you need to pull the transfer case, split the halves apart, clean them up, and reseal it. While you have it apart you can inspect everything in there and make sure it's all good, replacing whatever is causing the noise. If everything else looks good and there isn't a bunch of shavings in the oil I would just fix the leak and hopefully fix the noise and send it. You will probably save money doing it that way.
      Or you can save time and buy another one that's already out of the truck and just swap them out. Then when you get bored someday you can open up your old one and try to fix it and possibly have a spare if it's needed in the future.

      @Dark Horse Auto and Diesel alright alright thanks. I fuckin tried tightening up the bolt and the inside threads are stripped I really don't want to rely on any type of thread locker/sealant so I might just change out that whole case damn this truck is a money magnet forsure never fails but I love the truck hahaha. Thanks again if I have any other questions I'll comment. Thanks for the video

      It doesn’t really hold fluid in between it’s mostly just for dirt and dust protection since there is a bearing on the output shaft of transmission. If you want to seal it without completely removing it you could probably just back the bolts off about a 1/4 inch and run a bead of rtv around the outside edge of the flange just to have something there to keep any fluid that gets in there from leaking and keep dirt out. I would recommend if you decide to make sure it’s sealed off to use the paper gasket. It’s cheaper than a tube of rtv just a little more work to install
