I drove the hour up to Mark for a transfer case for my 07 Tahoe (Autotrak)after the original rubbed through, and I came across your original tcase video. Mark is an awesome guy and a stand up business man, called him up and he had one ready next day. This was about 3 years ago I believe and its been great so far. 😎👍
My 2006 Chevy 2500 4x4 Duramax got 713000 miles 26000 hours and the same transfer case not a rub hole yet. But I change the oil in the case every 15000 miles using Lucas oil additive. Had to replace rear axle at 475000 miles but haven’t touch the transfer case. Guess I’ll keep changing my T case oil every 15000 miles. Live in northeast and always towing and using 4x4 during winter use. Again maintenance is been my key to not have break downs.
That's awesome! So you use 5w-30w and some Lucas oil additive full synthetic? I watched a video years ago and started using Mobile 1 5w-30w full synthetic 2 qts. Good thing I did it replaced 3/4 qt of ATF that drained out 😅 Thanks Brother 🤠

Used that original video to rebuild my case back in the day. The mode fork wore out but I didn’t know it was the rear snap ring groove. Rebuilt it with a case saver and went on my way. For about 3k miles, then it did it again. Got an aluminum rear half and rebuilt it again. No issues this time. Swapped to 0w-20 motor oil as the viscosity is very close to that of Dexron VI. I change it once a year and it always comes out the same way it went in. I also fill through the speed sensor port so that it’s very full of oil.

536,000 miles on 2015 RAM 2500 4x4 Cummins Diesel I went to 5-40w Diesel Synthetic oil not the ATF4, and my Transfer case has lasted without problems, every 33k change the oils in 2Diff, Transfer Case and G56.... Diesel oil change 5k, (oil clear not black) and fuel filters every 5-10k depending on "environment" and 100k =coolant, brake, steering.
Don’t think Ram spec’d atf+4 for the transfer case for a few years on the 2500+ t’cases. They used it back in the older ones, pre- 2010 or something like that. It’s a b&w fluid on the newer ones(my ‘14 & ‘17 are anyway), similar appearance to atf, but not the same.
Truck master help buddy ……. when ur at a dead stop and let off brakes u can feel like the slip yoke move out of transfer case it feels like. got my 04 avalanche z71 4x4 from the shop yesterday since it had 4 leaks and they rebuilt my transfer case. i do plan on getting a better transfer case b4 selling it so i can make it last for the nex owner of the truck. reason for the rebuild is cuz transmission fluid got into the transfer case and in order to prevent that from happening to the new owner later down the road i might get a new one just to be safe
Plus, I’ll make sure so I can follow. I want to learn more. I just bought Tahoe the 71 2003. I’m replacing the other one, but I still want to buy a better one and replace it.
320k miles on my 10/05 build date 2006 LBZ w/261XHD... Gets run in 4wd almost every time I drive it as my sub has a steep hill that tends to washboard and 4wd helps keep it smooth. So far no pump rub hole in the case but when it does get one, I'm planning to put an aluminum rear case half on it... That roller bearing chain drive gear looks nice too!! Jeep took out the bearing when they went away from CAD, because everything is spinning all the time but with CAD, our trucks run that gear metal to metal, with only lube film to keep it from wearing... A bearing there just makes sense to me... FWIW, I run half and half synthetic ATF and synthetic 80W90. Thickens up the lube some but not as much as 5W30, since atf is ~10wt and 90wt on the same scale is like 30wt engine oil IIRC... The steel friction doesn't care about the 90wt but if you try this in the BW case with non-steel frictions, it will dissolve them and then grind going into 4wd... ask me how I know... :(

And wish I would have but I think it'll last another 200 k or so I have a general fix for the pump rub without doing a bunch although I have no issue with the pump rub no failure on the dodge ram 04 I know it's silly puttied in place go figure not a fix for poor parts fitment. Also I u uses substantially better gear lube it reduces wear in many key points again nothing lasts forever. If I need another t case for any reason I will be calling you. Thank u
Aluminum front case halves are available now? Thats great, the aluminum rears are markedly better in every way I can see, even the structural ribs on the outside are thicker than the OEM. I really wouldnt go to anyone else but Kodiak if I was looking for a full replacement unit at this point. That rollerized carrier bearing alone is worth it, but the full aluminum unit being offered now makes it a no brainer. The only thing I dont agree on, that I did different was the merchant auto pump-rub plate, filing down the lugs is necessary to allow it to shift around freely like the OEM assembly to prevent binding when using the Al rear case half, but I feel getting rid of those knife like lugs on the OEM pump assy altogether is the best move. With such thin pieces of metal, even if you arent wearing the new Al case I feel those stand the chance of wearing down over time. Of course I recommend adding something like the merchant auto or PPE t-case brace regardless of what route youre going. Peace of mind is priceless.
You put the roller bearing on the shaft for a NP246? I was curious if that mod had been done for a NP246. Does the input bearing wear like that in the NP246 as well?

I have a weird noise at 45mph, I’m trying to figure out the noise and trying to save money. I know it’s only a video but who could possibly help me figure out if it’s a pump rub noise
I had a hole in my 06 2500HD. I put a MA pump kit in it with a new rear t-case cover. Went through all the drivetrain in the t-case. Bearings and other metal parts all looked good. The only parts I had to replace other than the new pump kit and case half was the thrust washer for the planetary, new pads for the shift forks and I put new seals all the way around. Been working fine for several years now.
Unless you have a lever on the floor, all never using 4wd does is just about guarantee that when you want it, it won't work. None of the issues with this case are related to using 4wd so use it as much as you can. For the manual case, at least once a month just to keep oil slung around the front diff, with the electric shift t-case, shift that sucker in and out of 4wd at least once a week and it'll work forever. Leave it sit two years without pushing a button and you'll find that sooner or later it won't work at all...
Why are the manufacturers not made to recall these transfer cases and repair them this is wrong for the consumer as much as they cost all should be indestructible.
@@jessiedavis3543 NO problems at all. The 9.9 mpg kinda hurt but never lacked for power, having my cruise set at 77mph for long periods didn't help I'm sure. Cheers

It's criminal that GM gets away with selling such garbage, prone to failure from the day it was designed on paper and they just never have to pay the price for it. The "Duramax" (Izuzu) engine is good, the Allison Transmission is great, the rear axles hardly ever have issues... the rest of the truck, absolute garbage, mostly made in Cheaper and that oem transfer case is a piece of junk. If I buy one of these new manufactured Kodiac Transfer cases, can they bill GM for it?
2-3 mpg gain is pretty spectacular. Depending on condition of current transfer case, it will vary I’m sure. Takeaway from this video, new transfer case from Kodiak will off set fuel economy lost by larger, more aggressive tires. Notes for review with my wife when she’s questions the decision.

I have a weird noise at 45mph, I’m trying to figure out the noise and trying to save money. I know it’s only a video but who could possibly help me figure out if it’s a pump rub noise
Has nothing to do with the video, but what bed cover do you have? Looking for a good one for my Lbz. Thanks
I think I bought it from rough country it’s a trifold
@@TruckMaster is it a tyger tri fold?
When you said 1,585 my heart sank. I just spent 980 for a used one without the pump rub kit 😢
I designed those cases. GM wanted magnesium. We tried to talk them out of it with no success.
What about the transfer case adapter that breaks
This was a great video. Super informative
Does this happen on the newer trucks? 17-19 l5p 20-24?
How can I find more information? The location to buy the new transfer case?
Do you have to worry about this if you rarely ever use four wheel drive?
Yes you will still need to worry about it
Especially if it is a chevy you need to worry about the entire truck !!!!!!!
Do you guys do 2018 Nissan Titan front differential rebuild?
I fid 2 of them. In a shop as s mechanic and do not knowvhow long they lasted
No vibrate hole in the case broke the fork new case wish know about Marks case at that time
Tried using your code it doesn’t work with them though! Still great price and informative thank you!
Great Price for a Great Transfer case! Excellent work 👏 Thanks 🤠
So , Should I put 5/30 synthetic in my stock transfer case ? And if I never use four-wheel-drive am I in a better situation than somebody that does?
Unless you have a lever on the floor, all never using 4wd does is just about guarantee that when you want it, it won't work. None of the issues with this case are related to using 4wd so use it as much as you can. For the manual case, at least once a month just to keep oil slung around the front diff, with the electric shift t-case, shift that sucker in and out of 4wd at least once a week and it'll work forever. Leave it sit two years without pushing a button and you'll find that sooner or later it won't work at all...
If you were to measure a difference in case temperature (presumably lower temperature), this would support the claim of improved economy.
Awesome information, thank you sir!
5w30 synthetic motor oil in a trans case? That's a first. What's the deal with that?
I’m ready to order the lifetime t-case. Can’t find it on the website.
I can’t find any contact info to purchase either.. it’s a shame that this wasn’t posted.
Why are the manufacturers not made to recall these transfer cases and repair them this is wrong for the consumer as much as they cost all should be indestructible.
You want an indestructible truck?
@@Heywoodthepeckerwoodhahaha
recall is for safety issues not poor design . which is sad but that is all manufactures
so he is recommending using 5-30 engine oil even stock?
Yes 👍
I'll be checking mine for sure. I'm getting ready to tow about #9000 1400 miles. I have 116k on my lbz. Should I be worried?
How did the trip go? I did 3,200 miles with about the same weight, and my LLY did great the truck has got around 170K
@@jessiedavis3543 NO problems at all. The 9.9 mpg kinda hurt but never lacked for power, having my cruise set at 77mph for long periods didn't help I'm sure. Cheers
That dude knows his $#!t.
Well buy one from hand's down. When well we hear about the new steel heads on the wifemax 😮
Mark
is this just a chevy problem ill have to look up my transfer case,I kind of stopped watching since im not really a duramax fan but still tune in for the info sometimes
Not being snarky, just trying to understand if most of the core goes into the trash, why is there a $700 core charge? What do they reuse to make it worth that?
I can’t speak for them but I’m sure there is a lot of good usable hard parts in the case that they can still use
Ok, yeah. I guess his comment threw me off.
Is for 2012 6.0 2500
I thought there was a point GM had updated rear case.
I know they did a different clip at one point but they still broke.
Why do people setup their trucks for their wheels to stick out like that? Worse handling for what advantage?
Is this issue on HD only or is it including the 1/2 ton?
There is a list of transfer cases it affects, but yes 1500s are affected
Really appreciate your videos!
I put the pump rub kit in mine about a little over a year ago it only had 67000 miles on it but even at that the little clip was broke into wasn't much wear but there was some I checked the bearings they seemed really good so I'm thinking it should last me years
coupon code isn't working.....
Transmission and transfer case redone don't agree with their work should been done right the first time
What if you don’t use the 4 we very often? Like your videos from central Florida!
WD

This was a problem 15yrs ago. Thought they were all fixed by now
Whenever General motors considers a problem fixed !!! you can be guaranteed. That the fix made it worse !
I got a few questions. Anyway we can talk and answer a few questions for me
Back to NP 205
Informative.
Yoooo truck master ily man
Great info!
All valid points 😂
