The song is about the different stages of grief. The denial, the anger, so on and so on. The long, repetitive instrumental is supposed to mimic time slowing down as his immanent demise approaches. Until finally, acceptance. He bellows out Hallowed Be Thy Name, and gives his soul over to God. One of their great story telling songs.
Glad you did the studio version first to get it as intended but please check the 82 performance before the album was released. Pure magic!! Revelations is a deep cut worth checking out.
If you want to take a wild ride, listen to Iron Maiden's "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" it's pretty effing awesome - saw Maiden 5 times back in the day - they were as awesome as you could imagine.
Maiden!! Do "Aces High," "The Trooper," "Run to the Hills," or "Flight of Icarus" (or all, lol). Cliff, this band is fire! My husband played this solo with another guitarist. It's done with 2 guitars. Usually, the melody is created first. Drums and bass are added next. I wish I could take you back, brother. Arena rock. It was electric.
Live version is the best version love iron maiden it's even my picture and yes 1982 live from Hammersmith is the best to listen to just epic great reaction to one of greatest bands ever up the iron's 🤟
The Trooper, Brave New World, No More Lies, Run to the Hills, Different World, Wasted Age, The Writing on the Wall... Maiden have released bangers throughout the past four decades! You should check out all these songs and more from them!
Iron Maiden takes me back to high school, in our common room we had a boom box and had on high rotation Iron Maiden, Frank Zappa, CCR, AC/DC and a few Aussie bands that you may not of heard of.
I ❤ ZAPPA!!! I saw him at least a half a dozen times in the late 70s and early 80s and it was always a fun show!! He always did a block of shows right around Halloween in New York every year!!!!❤❤❤🎉
I'm so glad you made this channel!! I've been a metal head since the early eighties, and that will always be me. I don't have what it takes to appreciate rap and hip hop too much. Thanks for this channel!
This is such a great song! Brings me back oh and you aren’t crazy, this kind of music takes you on a journey just using the instrumentals.. I play classical violin and classical music takes you on a similar journey. ❤❤❤
Hey Cliff, I think you should check out an older live version of “The Trooper” from Live After Death” tour, and then a recent live version of “Fear of the Dark”, maybe the Live Chile 2022. They are still touring and are as energetic, powerful, and entertaining now as they were in the early 80’s.
More Maiden ! Try Wraith Child, from thier second album. It features the the original vocalist Paul Di' Anno , who just past last week. Iron Maiden did a very tasteful and touching tribute to him, with out bumming out the concert goers. Just as Paul would have wanted it.
Fun fact: Bruce Dickinson is a pilot and accomplished in many accolades (please look it up. I'm definitely inebriated ) He's the voice Iron Maiden. RIP Paul 'Dianno ❤
Maiden are and always have been my favourite. You should try Unleash The Archers, Awakening full band playthrough, the drums are nuts and you'll love the vocals
I don't think anyone needs to disrespect any other genres of music. I see music as a museum. I have my favorite style and wing of the art museum but I like walking through other wings as well. The intricacies of Iron Maiden and when you go further the intricacies of other bands such as dream theater is definitely something to behold. But so is the lyricism of Eminem. It's not comparable. The simple beats of Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg in the 90s, well not very sophisticated compared to power metal and other forms of metal, was still pleasing to my ear. In the end that's all that really counts.
A secondary comment for you. Don't be afraid of making g mistakes, especially when you are looking at another genre. Just be yourself, people are watching, enjoy the journey I to a different style of expression 😎
You might want to think about "Flight of Icarus." Steve Harris (the bassist) does most of the writing and is a force to be reckoned with in his own right. His tone, sound, and playing style are VERY much his signature, and NOBODY does it better. It is often referred to as a "galloping bass line" and definitely drives the music.
You really need to listen to some Rush. Total virtuoso musicianship from just three very good long time friends. BTW, both Maiden and Rush did songs based on Samuel Coleridge poems. Rime of The Ancient Mariner by Maiden, and Zanadu by Rush.
I don't know if you did those on your channel but you got check... "The clansman" with Bruce Dickinson in Rock in Rio or " Ryme of the ancient mariner" live flight 666....I think this is a must to get into Iron Maiden... ❤Thank you for your reaction..
My first experience of Maiden growing up in the 70/80s was aces high with the Churchill speech introduction epic music and storytelling and got me in the mood for playing sport as a teen on my walkman😂 You should do Rime of the ancient mariner or Phantom of the opera. Or try Nightwish a symphonic Metal band from Finland with a 6 ft tall valkyrie as the front woman. A song from the new album perfume of the timeless or an oldie Ghost love score epic
Black Pegasus just did reaction to Metallica Moscow - Creeping Death, they started chanting Die,Die,Die and he was taken back, then looked up the lyrics Holy Sh!t, this is about the exodus from Moses point of view 😄
While it's a similar type of song to this one, please do 'No Prayer for the Dying' from Iron Maiden. Also, the entire NotB is a MUST listen album and, for a near forty year old one it STILL, FCUKING, SLAPS. Keep up the good work sir and always, keep on rocking :D

If you really delve into the huge changes in music, it stated when they took music classes in school. For some the only exposure to instruments was through school, when they took that out of school those with music in their blood had to reinvent. The saddest thing, is for me is music has a heart and soul, without the instruments its lost the soul

Cliff, rock/metal is not as lyric heavy as rap; however the subject matter is generally way deeper and often goes to dark places in a way that rap could ever do! It’s not just the lyrics, it’s also the composition of the music that sets a mood for the lyrics! Great reaction! Please consider doing Metallica-fade to black or for whom the bell tolls! The album versions or live either way is great! Thanks
'YES', you did the wrong version of this song...Hello my name is Brian from White Bear Lake, Minnesota...You have watched the Live 1982 version of 'Hallowed Be Thy Name', it is considered to be the best rock video ever made, singer Bruce Dickinson sings his butt off in this video, you can really hear his operatic voice come out in this song, with his long vabratos, and long notes, not to mention his vocal range. In my opinion this why i think every other rock singer secretly wishes that they could sing like Bruce could when he was in his prime. Pay attention to the long note in the beggining of the song, and the 2 long notes at end of song, they are 'EPIC'...The song is about a man being sent to the gallows to be hanged and he is looking back on his life. Most of Iron Maiden's songs are about an important event that has happened in history. So watch this video for sure, it is amazing !!!...Must Watch. Thank You 🤘🤘 Video Link Below: ua-cam.com/video/7vP2hFFV57E/v-deo.html&feature=share
Don't get me wrong, i'm a fan of rap music having gone from Iron Maiden in the mid eighties to my discovery of NWA in the late eighties(little side note - you couldn't buy any NWA over the counter in music stores where i'm from back then, you had to get tapes off Jimmy 'the tape pusher' on the corner of the High Street :) ), however when you objectively look at both forms of the art, only one is original in everything about it and the other the only original part of it is the rappers voice as no instruments are used only sampling others' work. Watch reactions to Tupac's 'The Way It Is' to see people amazed that Tupac did not in fact create the music in that particular tune, also people are surprised when they find out Puff Daddy didn't come up with the Sting/The Police (Just realise the Irony of 'Sting' and 'Police' given his current situation) melody he sampled either... Also 1982 version!
Whilst 1982 live version is great, the flight 666 torronto version is better. Live is the way to view this band as the studio doesn't show the band at its best, have a good one mate
Ironic this reaction video came out the day the original singer died. How appropriate to follow up with a reaction to “killers” or “phantom of the opera”. Both songs are equal OR better than this tune. Do yourself a favor and dive deeper.

1982 live version.. is a must see. There you can see the real power of Iron Maiden.

Up the Irons...welcome to the Maiden Family ♥
R.I.P Paul di Anno 🙏
For the love of Iron Maiden, please react to them LIVE!!!
The live version and video of this song is always intense. Absolute classic.
Agreed, 100%
The version from Toronto!
But the newer live Version, Not the old one
Yes the older one, from the hammersmith.
Iron maiden- rhyme of the ancient mariner

The fact that for a lot of people Revelations is a deep cut cuts me deep to the bone 😂.
One of their best songs imo.
Run to the hills, aces high, 2 minutes to midnight, power slave..... The list goes on
1982 offical video is live and videod 2 months b4 the album was released. You see thier fans reaction hearing it the first time also.

it is so dope to watch persons like you experience and discover the music that accompanied me on my life's path for the past 40 years.
1982 live version!!!
Iron Maiden do a lot of story telling with both the lyrics and the music telling the story. They have been and still are an amazing band.
You need to see Bruce sing live, he does this while running and jumping around everywhere.
oh and yea Maiden live ALWAYS!
Welcome to the family!
Each Iron Maiden song is a little short story.
This is a masterpiece of musical brilliance. Its timeless. In my top 3 best ever songs. Equal to bohemian rhapsody, and holy wars-punishment due
Maiden!! Do "Aces High," "The Trooper," "Run to the Hills," or "Flight of Icarus" (or all, lol). Cliff, this band is fire! My husband played this solo with another guitarist.
