I think for moviee if they made a Zelda movie, they could still make it like a mix between Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild but have Ocarina of Time as flashback where Link as a child once believed he was a Kokiri only to realize during his meeting with the great Deku Tree that he's not, and as he becomes the chosen one growing up in a world he never knew about meets Zelda as a child they become close and over the course of time and this is just me since I think it could add to Links character in a potential movie is he starts having visions and nightmares such as the Kokiri Forest burning, the Hyrule Kingdom burning with Ganondorf in front of him holding a dead Saria and Zelda in his has, Ganon smiles and transforms into a Warthog demon based on Ganon's original 80's design but far more scary looking and demonic, causing link to always wake up in fear. at least that's me.

I think realistically Dreamworks would be a good choice for an animation studio. Not only are they under the same Universal umbrella that Illumination is, but I think the painterly 3D style that Puss in Boots had would work well with Zelda. But hopefully they’d take a Ghibli style approach to the narrative.

I also think Dreamworks is a perfect fit with Zelda. I know they have a mixed line up of movie but when they make a masterpiece it even tops the work of pixar. And they also are known for making good adaptations of pre-existing IP's such as Captain Underpants, The Bad Guys, Hell even Shrek and How to train your Dragon were allready existing propertys that Dreamworks put there own spin on and made them unique. They are brilliant at world building and creating cohesive worlds. And the new artstyle they used for The Last Wish reminded me of Skyward Sword. But I definitely agree

While I'm not entirely opposed to giving Zelda to Studio Ghibli, I have always envisioned Laika getting the keys to Hyrule. I mean, a huge swath of "Kubo and the Two Strings" is basically the closest thing we've gotten to "Legend of Zelda" without it actually being "Legend of Zelda".

I also want to see an awesome Metroid movie, but it is a bit of a tough sell. I don’t think the traditional story of the lone bounty hunter traveling to different planets, murdering sentient life, and even wiping out certain species would vibe well with the same audience as the Mario movie. It could actually make an intriguing movie for an older audience and feature environmental themes on the impact of doing such things (Fusion’s X-Parasite arising after Seamus’s eradication of the Metroids, for example). However, if Samus shows up in an illumination movie, I see her as an edgy archetype character, like Batman in the Lego movies.

i can see link being dead silent for the entire movie. but then maybe a little past the middle, when everything seems lost, theres a very personal scene: zelda breaks down from all the stress and eventually asks link how hes never afraid (in an angry and panicked way, ofc). after much internal deliberation, he only says one thing: “im always afraid.”
this would show how truly brave his character is. despite being so terrified of the insurmountable threats he was forced to face, he always makes the active decision to remain stoic and face everything head on, because thats his duty. and it would serve as a comfort to zelda, since she would truly understand that link will always fight by her side without giving up even though theyre up against pure all-powerful evil, and she would feel like everything would be ok as long as hes still there.
idk i think it would be a really good scene for a legend of zelda movie, link breaking his vow of silence only once to comfort her.

I love how much thought you've put into this! I'd also prefer to see a Zelda movie over any other Nintendo franchise, if only because I feel like it's better suited to the transition from game to screen than a lot of the other options. My main concern would be the wider cast outside of Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf; the Zelda series consistently delivers on fun and interesting NPCs, and it'd be a shame for a movie to not take advantage of that by featuring some fun and interesting secondary characters.

If there were to be a live action Legend of Zelda movie, it would HAVE to span quite a few films because there's so much content in the source material, do something like Lord of the Rings, make it really epic, create awesome practical sets, put a lot of effort into accuracy, costume design and it would need a properly good cast too, not just some famous people to make it more popular and to look good on a poster

All I'm gonna say is there is a period of 10000+ Years inbetween Zelda 2/Four Swords/Spirit Tracks as the timeline comes back together into one unified story.
While I hope it would be a game, I feel like this story of 3 different lands merging into one, all while Ganon is sealed away for thousands of years would be both an engaging story, and a perfect introduction for those new to the franchise as the world is reintroduced to these new elements.
Edit: and without spoiling what I think is going to happen in TotK, lets just say we can't have another story take place after for a good while.

It would be cool to see a Zelda movie that dives more deep and personal into Link, maybe even focusing heavily on his lack of speaking. Maybe even going as far as putting it in the title, like “The Legend of Zelda: The Hero’s Voice” (ゼルダの伝説 勇者の声).
I could see something where like in the beginning of the story, Link chooses not to speak out of line and this leads to Ganondorf’s successful rise to power (or maybe he does speak out of line and it has the same effect, scaring him into not talking), but then throughout the story, he and Zelda adventure together through the world and through dungeons, working together and growing closer, and slowly he opens up to her until finally he begins to speak a little, opening up a little about his feelings of it being his fault, then some unexpected setback like any movie leads him back into silence, but then they overcome it and when they finally face Ganondorf head on, he speaks directly with some really epic line, either before the battle or right before the killing blow.
Regardless of what they cover, I feel like a Zelda movie has to take things much more seriously than the Mario movie, being a legitimate story in its own right, not just a string of references serving more like an experience than a movie. I also think a 2D anime style is essential for it to work well, although I could see a version working OK with a more unique 3D style, but I just can’t imagine it hitting as hard as if they did a 2D anime Zelda movie.

I’ve actually been brainstorming how a Zelda movie should happen ever since I saw Mario on opening weekend. I think that Spider-Verse/Arcane style animation would be a good fit since it blends 3D with Zelda’s distinct aesthetic. And as for the plot, I have a rather fleshed-out idea.
It blends elements mainly from Ocarina of Time, Breath of The Wild, and the original but draws from others. The basic idea is that Link is 11 when we first meet him, living in Kokiri Forest. When the King of Hyrule learns that Link has the Triforce of Courage, he is taken to the castle and trained as a Royal Knight. During his training, Link is mostly silent but speaks when spoken to and in one-on-one scenes with characters like Zelda. The Princess is independent but overestimates herself. Like in OOT, Ganondorf is an advisor to the King, but he is also leading a band of rebels with the intent to overthrow the monarchy. Eventually he kills the King and Link goes into hiding for 7 years. He briefly finds safety at Lon Lon Ranch before being encouraged by Talon (the owner) to fight back against Ganondorf’s tyranny when he realizes who Link is. He gifts him with Epona and one “it’s dangerous to go alone” later, Link leaves to get the master sword from Kokiri forest and eventually takes back Hyrule.
This is a simplified version of the plot, I’ll add more details if interested.
Edit: Young Link and the overthrowing of Hyrule is the first act, but it’s a lot of setup and it required the most explanation. The other two acts are relatively simple.

Link has also has dialogue in the games before, and in BotW they gave that version of him an in-universe examination for not talking. He's just really stressed due to his responsibilities and not talking helps him deal with it. They could just make him a man of few words so that its more meaningful when he talks, but I mean they made Mario speak in full sentences and it was fine. Hell, there was even the manga where Link talks like a normal person. I have been of the opinion that Link being silent is silly these days though so I might be a minority opinion, especially since I grew up in the era of YTP and parodies where characters like Link talked all the time. And considering Disney World and Universal Studios Hollywood are kinda Theme Park rivals, it would be a conflict of interest (I think I used that term correctly).
We could use Ponoc Studios (which has many of Ghibli's art students) or the studio at did "Your Name" (forgot their name, but visually stunning).

I'm not a Zelda fan, but the idea of a Ghibli made movie sounds godlike. TLOZ, alongside Metroid, is one of the more "serious" franchises Nintendo has, and I don't think many studios can capture that slightly more adult tone well.
If Ghibli is not interested, however, another option could be Cartoon Saloon, the makers of Wolfwakers and Song of the Sea. Their artstyle is very recognizable, and even if their movies are more child-friendly, the studio definitely doesn't shy away from a more serious tone.

His style doesn't exactly match what an actual Zelda movie or show would look like but it definitely proves that the idea can work and that you can add so much more depth and emotion to Link, Ganondorf and Zelda and the story than we've ever been able to see in the game.

I think most of your main points are still really good though, I especially like the idea of having the three main trials centered around Power, Wisdom, and Courage, and each of your suggestions from those trials. • @midnighttomato3829

I always thought that an interesting way to deal with the silent protagonist problem would be to keep them mute, but instead have them communicate in sign language. Shows like the Dragon Prince and a UA-cam short about Jason Voorhes by Worthiikids has shown that animating sign language accurately can be done, and it adds a little more representation to the Link character while staying true to his in-game counterpart. As for how the audience would know what he's saying, you could just use subtitles, or have a companion character like Navi, Fi or Midna interpret, since they're no strangers to talking for Link in the games. I don't know if that would be a perfect solution to the issue, but it's something I've thought about.

In regards to other franchises that could be made into films…
Kirby definitely feels like the safest option for a non Mario related property to make a film out of. A story of a cute little blob who makes some friends which climaxes with a fight against eldritch horrors. Maybe even centring around a character arc for King Dedede due to Kirby’s limited speech.
Star fox could work if they focus on the development of the titular team, sort of a Star Wars/Guardians of the Galaxy sort of deal. Also space dogfights.
Metroid is tricky. It’s essentially sci-fi horror made into a game series, and Samus ends up losing two families before she bacame a bounty hunter, so it might not be targeted at children. Maybe it could work as a reverse horror, the Space Pirates having to fend off a relentless bounty hunter.

Studio Ghibli does a take on Zelda. then a live action Robert Eggers Zelda movie. and then a "spider-verse" textured style Zelda movie. could be a good way to make Zelda movies an art movement unto themselves. financially, Illumination wouldn't go for it because they wanna churn out lazy hyper comedies. but I think purposely embracing Zelda's anthology style storytelling would put them in a very unique and respected position
