I think CW’S Arrow is incredible. It’s not a one for one character adaptation but as the show goes on he became much more like his comic counterpart. Way better than many Green Arrow comic book fans say.
Something I’d like to see in a Green Arrow movie, or at least the first one, would be him losing his wealth. Him ultimately losing his money was what originally pushed him into the socially conscious, aggressively left-wing hero we know him as, and Hard Travelling Heroes expands on that. So I’d like to see that on screen and for them to show how that pushes Oliver further down the “look out for the little guy” mentality
That would be awesome specially if the ehe villain of the film end up being Count Vertigo, since he is also rich and part royalty and his conflict with Green Arrow could bring Oliver story full circle: He started as arrogant spoil billionaire, he ended as heroic figure protecting the people he once ignored, from corrupt wealthy criminals.
I've said it before, but I really hope the new DCU goes about structuring their universe with a pre-established structure. Obviously there's things like Star Wars or Harry Potter that've done that, but something like the latest John Wick was a great example of how you can introduce new characters who are treated as though they've always been around and have long histories with other characters. Heck a big part of conversation following that film's release was regarding how many spinoffs they could do about the characters introduced in that film alone because of how interesting they were. I really hope we get that with this new DCU, you could have a movie about one hero that maybe features one or two others in supporting roles. I think that in skipping their origins and having them in supporting roles it allows those characters to be more defined and lived-in, a show don't tell situation regarding their beliefs and heroism since they'll have less screen time to sell it. I really feel like Green Arrow fits that role well, I mean that's basically how he was handled in JLU, I'd love to see him play off another hero first before getting his own film. I also just think that's a smart decision for DC right now, win people over with likeable characters and create demand for them to get their own films or other projects, because let's face it there's plenty of great DC characters who are unknown to general audiences. On the one hand it would allow certain characters a greater spotlight, but even if they don't get a spinoff their mere existence in a supporting role would do a lot to build out that sense of a wider universe.
I was suffering from superhero fatigue until I came across your videos - the grounded style (grounded as in ON THE GROUND NOT REALISTIC - person of the people) is sorely needed
He's still playing characters in action movies. They could do it if they don't have too many demanding scenes for Green Arrow later in the universe @@noamasaf2668
Green Arrow is literally my favorite superhero of all time. In large part because of the CW's Arrow series which I watched as a kid and introduced me to the character. Honestly, I love the Take on Oliver Queen that Stephen Amell and CW took, but I think James Gunn could bring an even better adaptation to the screen. I am unbelievably excited!!!
7:30 I don’t know if John Boyega would be a good fit. Before I say this, I want to be clear that I don’t really care race swapped casting in general. However, you yourself explained how Green Arrow is about Oliver learning that he benefitted from the system that hurts so many people and turning it around. I just feel like that story would fall a little flat if it wasn’t played by a white guy. Sure, money and power often lessen the troubles people experience based on their race; to quite a high degree I might add. However, the oppressive nature of the system js still present no matter how influential they are. So, having a black man play Oliver means that he would already know about the system and what it does, he and his people are effected by it, despite his wealth and power. A rich, cis, straight passing, white man doesn’t get fucked by society, hence why Oliver has to learn not only why the system sucks, but that it does in the first place.
For me, the best way to introduce Green Arrow in the DC Universe franchise in the first chapter is by developing a Green Arrow live-action film based on the "Longbow Hunters" storyline from the late 1980s, alongside other characters who can appear in the film like Black Canary (Dinah Lance), Roy Harper, Wildcat (Ted Grant) and Shado.
Ryan Johnsan directing a Green Arrow movie starring John Boyega that is a political romcom? YES YES YES YES YES!!! Never considered either, but I totally see it
If you like mike Grell's work on long bow hunters, I would suggest getting the green arrow, long bow hunters saga omnibus vol.1 and vol. 2. Mike wrote 80 issues after the miniseries and it's all collected in those two. They are expensive books, but they are hard covers and in the oversized format and the best way to find all of his work on green arrow
This may be a late comment and hot take, but Stephen Amell has said in an interview he would love to play Green Arrow on the cinematic universe. I think he did a great job as the character in Arrow the only thing that was upsetting was the direction of the show and the scripts. Plus I do think he'll do a better and more comic accurate portrayal in the movies. I mean he has a lot of experience lol
My problem if you put Ryan Johnson as the director is that he isn’t a fan of the source material. When it comes to movies, he’s the type of creator, who would just want to do his own thing. For an outside property that is very exciting, but I don’t want him to screw up Green Arrow for his vision of the story. Also if you wanna cast John Boyega, I don’t know if the two are on the best terms.
The conservative DC fans were mad when George Lopez said “Batman’s a fascist” in the Blue Beetle trailer. So they’re gonna be PISSED when they hear what Green Arrow has to say lmao, another amazing video troy! I really think WB should just take up your offer and let you direct a green arrow movie for free Lmao I’d be there opening night without a doubt
Yeah I’d love to see a Green Arrow movie someday. And yeah I can picture John Boyega as Oliver Queen, he’s an underrated actor who didn’t get a lot of love as Finn and I think he’d be great in a DC movie. Now for other DC movies I’d love to see one day would be Red Hood & The Outlaws, Static Shock, a proper Green Lantern movie, and a movie adaptation of the Earth 2 comic story line and Dark Knights Metal storyline.
Admittedly, the only exposure I’ve had to Green Arrow is Injustice 2 and the first two volumes of the Kevin Smith run, but even from those fragments, I’m interested in seeing a DCU interpretation of Green Arrow (or yours, Troyo).
I like the inclusion of an actor who can portray the character both on, and off screen. Like when Andrew Garfield went around New York in his Spider-man costume to play basketball with some kids. That's pure Spider-man right there. Now imagine at the next big protest that shocks the country, we see the literal Green Arrow fighting with us for our freedoms. I think that's something we need more of right now. The world needs more heroes. And please do a pre-write of a Green Arrow film. I'm excited to see the ideas you bring to the table.
Casting for Green Arrow is so tricky. My ideal actor would be Dev Patel, but I can’t help but think about how much of Ollie’s whiteness informs his disconnect from his wealth and privilege before he makes that change. Curious what you think!
I see that argument a lot and I get that perspective, I just don't think I've ever read a story where Ollie's whiteness is specifically focused on as a source of his privilege. It of course is, and if a movie were to tell that story I would be really interested in it and be all in, but I think that the class privilege is told about more. And there could be something interesting where the Queens think that they're above the flaws in the system from their wealth, but still become victims to it, and that could sort of kickstart Ollie's journey more. Again, I totally get the argument (more than any other character tbh) but imo it's not the most 100% necessary thing on the planet and would rather they find someone who could rock the post-change Ollie mindset. Whether that's Boyega or someone else, it's all cool with me as long as it's not Charlie fucking Hunnam lol
@@troyoboyo17 totally agree that it doesn’t have to play a big part at all. As long as it isn’t Hunnam, I think the actual fans should be happy in Gunn’s hands!
Tbh I didn’t hate what they did at the beginning of the arrow series. I mean I think it’s unrealistic to think that a man can go through what Oliver did on that island for 5 years and come out as the same man who came in. But I do think that he should’ve grown back into a less broody GA.
Before I even watch the video…..it absolutely needs Green Arrow. Green Arrow was one of the first books I binge read and bought when I got into comics. Starting with Kevin Smith’s Quiver. He’s an underrated hero
Oh my goodness thats a great fancast. I do love Oliver's iconic look but switching up the race is an opportunity to feel into the political themes very well, maybe see him realize how poor and black people can be treated before he gets back his riches and everyone seemingly turns nice, and being disgusted I really want the first green arrow movie to have the villain be just one of the many businessman that plague the city from the comics, maybe with a few colorful supermercenaries they paid by their side (would also be fun if he keeps fighting them with difficulty and at the end fight he just reveals he paid now paid them off and they just step aside lol)
You spelt "thrust" wrong at the 10:00 minute mark... But I would LOVE a Green Arrow prewrite. I'm unfamiliar with his character excluding Arrow (which is basically just Batman) and JLU so that would be a great way to learn more about him. I loved him so much in JLU and so if that was as accurate to the comics as I keep hearing, I would love a prewrite.
Ah fuck I knew there was something up but for some reason Final Cut just was sooo slow on this one and I had a lot harder time fixing those little things. Thanks for catching it tho.
We seem to have pretty similar taste in superheroes. While I'm not sure I would choose those three as my absolute top 3, they are definitely in my top 5 (along with She-Hulk and Cyclops).
Don't even have to watch the whole video (but trust me I will), and I whole heartedly agree! I for one would love a Green Arrow Year One adaptation, and I still really want Charlie Hunnam to play the Emerald Archer
Green Arrow like Batman having no powers my favorite line from any version of Oliver is in justice league unlimited when he says “ Batman told me to make sure you guys stay in line” or something regarding those lines when Superman wants to attack Cadmus for having a weapon to stop the league, with both of them not having any powers he and Bruce are MORE able to connect with the people of earth and be see how some people see them as a “threat” so having Green Arrow in the type of role to also keep the league in check is how Oliver should always be
Personally I want to eventually see firestorm. And aztek. Along with dial H for hero. But honestly I'd doubt we'd see any of them. Green arrow is good. But I'm more into dc animation than live action anyway. Good video 💯
I didn't realize how much I needed a Green Arrow/Black Canary rom-com until just now. And personally, I always thought Charlie Hunnam would be better as John Constantine.
@troyoboyo17 I disagree with your take here. The best way is to take a director who has never done anything that is left-leaning and actually let the director of the project to actually understand the character's core elements before emphasising the character's thematic context. Also, Charlie Hunnman is a good choice not only because of his looks but because the actor can actually portray the essence of the character, especially in context to the queen's familial narrative and conflicting ties to the city while presenting the aspects of a man that fell from grace, and building himself from the ground up. You need to watch most of Charlie Hunnam's filmography.

Brad Pitt as Oliver Queen, I need that casting I'm not kidding. I honestly wanna see David Leitch as Director but Rian Johnson is pretty good too
That would be dope
brad pitt will be a thousand years old when they’ll actually adapt green arrow lmao
@@noamasaf2668 he's not that old is he
@@highdefinition450 brad pitt is going to be 60 in like 6-5 months i was obviously exaggerating lmao but he cant play oliver queen
He's still playing characters in action movies. They could do it if they don't have too many demanding scenes for Green Arrow later in the universe @@noamasaf2668
as long as we eventually get an adaptation of jeff lemire’s run, i’ll be happy. komodo is sick as hell.
Come on Troy. Make the green arrow prewrite. I’m also waiting for part 2. Of the DC characters that should be adapted James Gunn‘s new universe
The 9th circle is such an awesome concept that i would love for a movie.
Never considered either, but I totally see it
Mr troyoboyo, from the bottom of my heart, more prewrites would be the only thing I want for Christmas.
Green arrow isnt an "anti-right" superhero. Hes against corruption and abuse, which happens equally on both side
2:25 Ok but "Arrow-plane" is genius
Please do a pre-write of a Green Arrow movie. I love your unique takes on possible movies that such a rich & effective story!
Oh god I completely forgot about the Blue Beetle overreaction lol yeah that’ll be really fun
Bro I was thinking that 😂😂😂 they’re gonna shit on this movie unfortunately
Great video as usual, would love to see an in-depth Prewrite.
I can't wait for this new universe bro I'm so hyped
I want a Green Arrow movie with Wildcat also starring in it, getting his own movie later on.
This video was amazing. I'd love more Green Arrow content. And, yes, I'd love a prewrite for the Green Arrow.
Love how crazy onemotapeia is and he'd be awesome in a movie.
Also I love the romcom idea would be hilarious if they really ham it up in the trailers
Kevin Smith's is my personal favorite run on the character.
A Ryan Johnson Green Arrow movie would be so amazing. The way he dunks on the ultra wealthy would be perfect. 😅
This time, they've got to do Black Cannary justice, especially after what Arrow did to her
Would LOVE a Green Arrow pitch
i had never really thought of green arrow casting because he seems so difficult to capture but i could absolutely see your pick
John Boyega as Green Arrow could actually be insane!!!
Not a good choice. Effects the character greatly
As soon as you were describing the traits you wanted in an actor I knew it would be John Boyega. I love that fancast
L fan cast, Green Arrow is a blonde white guy.
@@MelkMan7 cope
@@samhartje723 cope with what you idiot? All you NPCs comment the same thing.
Oliver is a white guy that grew up rich, thats like making Bruce Wayne black doesn’t work and should and will fail
@@MelkMan7 not important to the character and we've had 3 live action barry allens with black hair, cope.
Cant wait fot when Oliver says its Arrowing time and then Arrows all over the place
a good green arrow movie has Oliver Queen being an explicit bottom to Black Canary... it won't work otherwise
Ironically, after The Last Jedi, John Boyega will probably never work with Rian Johnson again. Lol
Nice video, and I like what you did with the background 🙂👍🏹
I like the inclusion of an actor who can portray the character both on, and off screen. Like when Andrew Garfield went around New York in his Spider-man costume to play basketball with some kids. That's pure Spider-man right there.
Now imagine at the next big protest that shocks the country, we see the literal Green Arrow fighting with us for our freedoms. I think that's something we need more of right now. The world needs more heroes.
And please do a pre-write of a Green Arrow film. I'm excited to see the ideas you bring to the table.
Sounds kind of like how Marvel should use Iron Fist
James Gunn's Dcu needs green arrow? No, I NEED green arrow.
Yet another reason why the DCAU is peak.
This video low key got me interested in the character of green arrow
Same
Green Arrow pre-write would be awesome
Boy (can I call you boy?), please give us a Green Arrow prewrite. Please please please
Kratos be like
Casting for Green Arrow is so tricky.
@@troyoboyo17 mine should stay stephen amell i think he is a really good fit for this role he was just the victim of bad writing
Matt Barr?
@@troyoboyo17troyo please make a static shock pitch
Tbh I didn’t hate what they did at the beginning of the arrow series. I mean I think it’s unrealistic to think that a man can go through what Oliver did on that island for 5 years and come out as the same man who came in. But I do think that he should’ve grown back into a less broody GA.
Before I even watch the video…..it absolutely needs Green Arrow. Green Arrow was one of the first books I binge read and bought when I got into comics. Starting with Kevin Smith’s Quiver. He’s an underrated hero
Oh my goodness thats a great fancast. I do love Oliver's iconic look but switching up the race is an opportunity to feel into the political themes very well, maybe see him realize how poor and black people can be treated before he gets back his riches and everyone seemingly turns nice, and being disgusted
I really want the first green arrow movie to have the villain be just one of the many businessman that plague the city from the comics, maybe with a few colorful supermercenaries they paid by their side (would also be fun if he keeps fighting them with difficulty and at the end fight he just reveals he paid now paid them off and they just step aside lol)
John boyega is my fancast for bronze tiger
Thank you for this
Yeah even tho he's closer to batman than iron man as a hero, I have said that he is also a lot more like Tony Stark too, good comparison.
God, how are you so good at making me love characters I never gave a second look??
This video alone makes me wanna obsess over Green Arrow
I for one would love a Green Arrow Year One adaptation, and I still really want Charlie Hunnam to play the Emerald Archer
please do the full pre-write
I’d be down for a pre write I loved your Spider-Man trilogy
You should do a movie pitch for Green Arrow like you did for the new Spider Man trilogy and The Flash.
I'm a leftist that doesn't like Episode 8, but a big fan of the Knives Out movies
Found vid, watched some of your other videos, now liked, subbed, and ready for that Green Arrow script.
You're doing damn good videos, keep it up!
I think Brenan Lee Mulligan would be a good writer for a green arrow story maybe
Green Arrow like Batman having no powers my favorite line from any version of Oliver is in justice league unlimited when he says “ Batman told me to make sure you guys stay in line” or something regarding those lines when Superman wants to attack Cadmus for having a weapon to stop the league, with both of them not having any powers he and Bruce are MORE able to connect with the people of earth and be see how some people see them as a “threat” so having Green Arrow in the type of role to also keep the league in check is how Oliver should always be
As soon as you mentioned directors that hate billionaires and could write it, i thought Arian Johnson
i love the john boyega fan casting
Ohhhh shoot, a Rian Johnson Green Arrow flick actually makes so much sense. Gonna be thinking about that for a bit
Personally I want to eventually see firestorm. And aztek. Along with dial H for hero. But honestly I'd doubt we'd see any of them. Green arrow is good. But I'm more into dc animation than live action anyway. Good video 💯
Troy making the best points as always
I love John Boyega. Can we please cast somebody who actually looks like the damn character?
I am FEINING for any GA appreciation on UA-cam, please keep it up with Ollie
y tf is this so underrated what, needs way more views
I need Charlie hunnam as Oliver queen, AND yes I want your prewrite version of the script.
Stumbled upon your channel today. Super happy I did. Great vids. Especially here.
I would LOVE to hear your pitches on DC projects
