HI Gena ! I've been reviewing videos of Gels and Creams and coincidently I had used the Kinky Curly Custard and was thrilled with the definition it gives my high porosity fine hair when I've used a protein curl cream. I really love the Curl Smith Soufflé and it does work so well but it's a bit expensive for me right now. I really like that you put the ingredients on the screen when showing the products. I'm a pharmacy tech and I love learning the ingredients of what I put in my body and hair. Thank You for a wonderful video.
I had no idea why I could never get a cast with my gel. Thank you for explaining that. I need to use less cream and my super porous hair needs some protein! Going to get the AG Re:coil and layer the Quidad I recently bought over that. Thank you!
I would love to see a video on how to incorporate silicones in to your routine safely. I added the olaplex oil to the end of my routine and my next wash day was the worst I have had in a long time. My shampoo did not lather up even after 2 washes and my hair felt really sticky. I know you were testing out silicones and would love to hear your thoughts.
I love that Dove gel! I just discovered it, and it is my favorite now. I like the leave-in from that line, too. Fanola makes a leave-in treatment that I like, too. I have needed more strengthening treatments since I highlighted my hair, and the Fanola nourishing line has been a life saver.
Yes I use the Kinky Curly leave in and then the custard as a curl enhancer topped with a harder hold gel and the custard acts as a curl enhancer that way for me. Always a great hair day.
I have fine curly hair. I love the Kinky Curly Curling Custard. I use it with the Kinky Curly Knot Today. It’s a leave in/detangler. They work well together. Give it a try. I would love to hear your opinion. Thank you. ❤
That combo worked amazingly well for me but I was very sensitive to the strong vanilla fragrance of the custard & couldn't continue using it 😪 I always recommend it to people who aren't fragrance sensitive since it's so cost effective & works well for fine or thin hair or looser curl patterns (aka wavy hair) I still love the Knot Today leave-in & repurchase it often
Bought the function of beauty mask from your recommendation and got the shine and length boosters and cannot believe how great it worked! I then got the wavy conditioner and leave in as my curls are type 2 mostly, some 3a but mostly 2b-c… I never would have bought without your recommendation! Thank you!
Can you recommend a hairspray for fine, thin curly hair. Can you do a video on best products for this type of hair. My curl pattern is more curl on the bottom less curl on top of my head.
Love your videos!!! Been watching him for about 3 years. My most used and loved products of this year have been The not your mother‘s hard hold gel and L’Oreal Paris dream lengths curl cream. I would be interested in you reviewing the curly life line of curly hair products.
I so relate, I have thin super curly hair and once a week I try to just leave it curly-- I usually only can stand it for a couple hours then I use a hot air round brush to straighten it out LOL. Stop people telling me you wish you had my curls.....no, no, no you don't!!
I will have to sadly agree. I've tried everything out there (can't afford high end. Don't think it will make much of a difference, anyway) My curls/hair is just too difficult.
The Hask Curl Defining Cream I think pairs really well with the Kinky Curly Curling Custard, especially if u have high porosity hair. I normally use a deep conditioner with it and it gives me good definition. Thanks Gena for mentioning it. :)
I finally tried the Ouidad stronger hold gel in the red/white bottle. It was $20 on Amazon when I ordered it so I was a bit hesitant because of the price but I definitely noticed a very nice difference in my hair. Far less frizz and more curl definition! My hair isn’t crunchy either so this definitely isn’t a sticky gel which is nice. I’d like to keep using this more often, hopefully it’ll go on sale again for another Amazon Prime Day, I’ll have to stock up! It was quite interesting to see what a $20 vs a $4 hair gel did for my hair 🥰
Awesome ! I use most of the products you shared, and yes blow drys with diffuser for low density on the top front and side of my head and how I can section my hair to cover the scalp. Thank you....
Thank you for clearing up for me, the confusing glycerin inside gels!!! I can't use it. I live on Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 Imagine the humidity!!! 😱 Almost 24-7 365! Luv ya!
Kinky Curly makes a leave-in/detangler that works amazing under the custard. I had the best hair day of my life using that combo but unfortunately the fragrance was so strong (vanilla) I ended up having to wash my hair again immediately. I was so sad I couldn't use it after that. I've been looking for a fragrance free version with similar ingredients but so far, no luck. Most curl cremes & hard hold gels are just too heavy for my hair type (long, fine but thick 2B/2C/3A), so I usually prefer liquidy leave-ins, light weight gels & a curl defining mousse that will define/encourage my natural texture without weighing it down. If I need extra hold I add an alcohol free hairspray that is CGM formulated ( I currently use the one from Jessicurl since it's unscented & alcohol free) I'm still trying to find a reliable refresh routine. I mostly just wash/restyle it again once it gets to a certain point (usually after 4-5 days) Sometimes a Wave Spray works well but I always need to wash my hair after using it so it's only good for when I've extended the time between wash days one day too many & my hair just looks flat on top & frizzy at the ends. It will at least give it some wave pattern definition but makes it feel even dirtier. 🤮
Very helpful! Thanks Gena for another great tips video. Have you ever tried Mop Top Anti-frizz medium hold gel (black label)? I like it and great slip.
Do you not care for Redken's line for frizz control or the curly line? I've got great results with them and find myself always going back to Redken. I'd love to see a review on this brand and your opinion on it.
Any suggestions to replace recoil that’s lower in fragrance. I love the protein and the curl definition but I really need something with minimal scent. I have really fine, high porosity hair. I’ve been testing the jessicurl but I am just wanting some other options to try.
How do you sequence out using different creams/gels & shampoo/conditioner combos to really understand the effect they have on your hair? Do you do a certain routine for 3-4 washes and then change up one element each time? Very curious.
Check out my wash day schedule on my blog where I lay it out in a monthly calendar: genamarie.co/2020/10/curly-hair-wash-day-schedule-downloadable-calendar-guide/
I don't consider the Cake Beauty cream to be heavy. I found that one when I was looking for a replacement to my beloved Styling Cream from Devacurl and I thought it was perfect. And compared to the Dove gel, I don't think the scent is too bad. I wanted to love that gel because it gave me pretty good hold but that scent..omg SO perfume-y. And I have no problem with fragrance, but that scent was way too strong.
I've been following the curly girl rules for about 2 months. What suggestions do you have for getting healthy hair? I'm frustrated and miss the sleek look created with heating tools which by the way has left me with dry,, damaged hair.
Just do what you like!! The curly method doesn’t mean anything. You don’t have to follow it.. you might need to clarify. Silicones are amazing for smoothing out your hair.
A good deep conditioner and the squish to condish technique to hydrate the hair. If it's bad a cut may be in order too. The rest is time unfortunately.
Need your advice. So mad at myself for straightening my curly hair that is already really dry from highlighting. Now my curls aren't as curly as they once were. What should I do! I'm never straightening my hair again 😒
In my experience, there's no return for those curls. You'll have to cut as much as you can manage and let the new curls come in (so to speak) You'll have to cut until it's all removed. And don't worry!!! We've all been there one way or the other and hair grows faster than you think. Before you know it, those curls will be gone......I promise. P.S. I do have an idea though... As you wait maybe FINGER COILING those curls WITH a bit of Strong HOLD will at least help them coil more.
When I used both a protein shampoo and conditioner my hair doesn't seem to agree with it. Do u think it's more beneficial to have a shampoo with protein or a conditioner with protein?
Does anyone else have trouble with their curly hair products causing brown stains on their clothes? It’s making me crazy. The stains don’t seem to be removable either…The only offending ingredient I’ve found anything about online is the polyquaternium. Is this not an issue with other people??

Gena I just want to thank you for all the value that u give to ppl especially women!! U are n inspiration 🎉
Thanks for the drug store options! We live frugally and with no debt.
Your videos are awesome and put together so well. I have learned so much from you.
Yes I use the Kinky Curly leave in and then the custard as a curl enhancer topped with a harder hold gel and the custard acts as a curl enhancer that way for me. Always a great hair day.
I learn so much from you, Gena. Thanks for another great video 🥰
I got flash drying with that combo. I use the Camile rose curl love moisture milk or curls creme brulee under it and that works fine.
Bought the function of beauty mask from your recommendation and got the shine and length boosters and cannot believe how great it worked! I then got the wavy conditioner and leave in as my curls are type 2 mostly, some 3a but mostly 2b-c… I never would have bought without your recommendation! Thank you!

A couple days ago I gave up trying to style my curls and bought a straightener... Hair shouldn't be this painful and complex 😢

I agree. my curls are great on wash day but the next day it’s a pain to keep up with so I try to blow dry it straight
Ouidad and kinky curly are my HG’s too. Loving these videos!!
The Hask Curl Defining Cream I think pairs really well with the Kinky Curly Curling Custard, especially if u have high porosity hair. I normally use a deep conditioner with it and it gives me good definition. Thanks Gena for mentioning it. :)
I still need to try the hask brand!
I love the Hask curl care shampoo and conditioner!!!
@@GenaMarie I find it really moisturizing, but a teensy bit on the heavier side, but it will form a good cast with the kinky curly gel.
I picked up the Ouidad gel (strong hold) from Amazon for $13. I hope it works for me. Thanks for the heads up on that Black Friday sale price! 👍🏼🤞🏼
Yay!!
If it wasn't half price, I don't think I could ever see myself spending $26 for a hair product, so I bought 2!
Best gel I’ve ever used
Omg I got it too. I love it ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I spent 750 euros at the curlsmith website on Black friday. I buy my productos yearly. Hoping to find a dupe of my favorite Monat Replenish Masque.

Use the Kinky Curly Curling Custard as your curl cream. Follow with Curlsmith Shape Up Aqua Gel. Perfection 👌😍
Ooh I need to try layering gels!
Ooohh...! I might have to try this combo!!!
Sounds cool. Thank you.
This was really helpful, thank you!!
Is shea moisture strengthen and restore treatment masque good for low porosity and fine hair?

I’m considering trying the curlsmith fragrance free line because I’m really sensitive to fragrance.
Is cantu avocado hydrating cream good for fine and low porosity hair?
Thank you for your videos! I appreciate all the information! Can you share your lip color in this video? I love that color!
Very helpful! Thanks Gena for another great tips video. Have you ever tried Mop Top Anti-frizz medium hold gel (black label)? I like it and great slip.
Def going to try the NYM oil!! Thx ❤
Very helpful ❤
For the Ouidad ACC gel segment, what Ouidad product did you show that you use underneath? Thanks!
How do I find out if my product has a low or high glycerin level, etc.? So I know what i need to change 😌 Thank you for helping 🙏🏼
I had a coupon for Not Your Mother’s curl defining cream. I hope it’s good. I have hair like yours, kind of thin but with a looser curl.
It's great! Just make sure you clarify often because I find that it can buildup if you use that cream back to back many times without clarifying
@@GenaMarie Great!! Thank you for the reply!
I will say a little goes a long way, so start small!

Is it wise to use dry shampoo on curly hair? Never heard someone talk about it, so just asking here
Bought the shine shampoo and the curl cream
Awesome!
I got the function of beauty wavy hair mousse and anti-frizz booster shots

Dove bottle having trouble to get a curl clump. So I should you this as a leave in and then a gel?
I don't consider the Cake Beauty cream to be heavy. I found that one when I was looking for a replacement to my beloved Styling Cream from Devacurl and I thought it was perfect. And compared to the Dove gel, I don't think the scent is too bad. I wanted to love that gel because it gave me pretty good hold but that scent..omg SO perfume-y. What gel would u recommend to use with the cake beauty curl cream?
The AG code doesn't work. I'll try again tomorrow.
Why do you recommend the red bottle over the white bottle of the Ouidad gel?
It’s stronger hold
Do you know which product doesn't make your hair look crunchy?
You scrunch out the crunch to soften the look.

When I used both a protein shampoo and conditioner my hair doesn't seem to agree with it. Do u think it's more beneficial to have a shampoo with protein or a conditioner with protein?
In my experience if your hair doesn't agree it's because it doesn't need it, AT ALL. (For the time being, at least)
My hair doesn't like much protein at all and would only use 1 product with protein if at all.
Does anyone else have trouble with their curly hair products causing brown stains on their clothes? It’s making me crazy. The stains don’t seem to be removable either…The only offending ingredient I’ve found anything about online is the polyquaternium. Is this not an issue with other people??
My hair seems to hate alcohol of any type! 😕
Gena..can you give me you IG account name..I blocked the one that said they were you, but now I can’t find you…!
