    Working with the VTRC - Vari Tube Recording Channel Strip by Tegeler Audio
    Today we’re looking at the Tegeler Audio Vari Tube Recording Channel (VTRC).
    I’ll show you how to integrate hardware into your workflow and how I use it to mix vocals, acoustic, bass, and drums. This unit has a wide variety of filters, and even up to 3 compressor options, so there are lots of ways to approach shaping a track with it.
    Have a look and let me know what you think of the VTRC in the comments.
    Already using some external hardware that you love?
    Let me know that too!

    I own the Tegeler VTRC for about 2 months now and using it just for dialogue applications and it worhs so great. But what I love mostly: It's quite easy to operate. Just 3 words: I love it!

    This is the latest and best review of Tegeler VTRC so far..been looking for this information for quite some time. :)

    Wow, I must say I'm very impressed! Having 3 compressors available is a great advantage. Thank you for sharing this.

    I love my VTRC. I think it's incredibly flexible and I can get a variety of tones out of it! It's nice to see someone else who appreciates them as much as I do. BTW - I use the mic inputs on the VTRC and my Focusrite ISA428 and the stock preamps on my Presonus Quantum interface....just depends what sound I'm looking for. And everything is patchable to my Quantum.

    Beautiful piece of hardware! I usually use my UA6176 when tracking vocals or bass. I'm waiting for a Lola preamp anytime now. Can't wait to run some tests!

    Wow! Very smooth at everything! Gain on vocals is so warm right to the max and eq at 24k was a real surprise. What a nice type of bright! How much for one of these? Great video too. Nice demo of each feature👍

    Great Video Chris, thank you.
    Are the Compressors fast enough to catch Peaks in Voice Over and Dialogue Recordings?

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  Рік тому

      Yes they are, especially with the Vari-Tube compressor...not as fast as an 1176, but a bit faster than the Opto

    Can i use this hardware on different tracks at same time when mixing ?

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  Рік тому +1

      At the same time? No. Some will bounce tracks with an Analog unit like this one to use it on other tracks. And the VTRC is very useful when recording, it was designed more with recording in mind

  • @brunohenriquenascimentosiq3966

    Whats the best? VTRC or Millennia or Avalon 737?

    Hey Chris , trying to figure this out ... I need saturation for vocal that are possible to get dirty kind of , people say buy a LA 610 , but I was thinking how dirty can the sound be on a tegeler , I can't seam to. find an example for that .... could you eventually send me a wav file of a totally saturated vocal track so I can hear that :)

    What's the differences between the "Gain" knobb and the "Input"? Do you do the gain stage on the device without touching the interface input gain? Pretty cool channelstrip. Nice video!

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  Рік тому +1

      The "Input" controls the signal level going in the Preamp. The Gain adjusts the Gain of the Preamp. So you need some Input level before you can add some Gain that will change the tonal balance of the sound. Thanks!

    Hey chris, one thing I don’t understand about this video ( and it may be a stupid question ) is : how do you insert an hardware preamp on a track using the insert section ( like you did in the video ) ?
    Thank you for making this video

    So in a mixing situation on several individual tracks are you bouncing those track to new tracks and using those tracks in conjunction with the original track or in place of the original tracks. I must say I have over a dozen Mic pres and older Trident and Yamaha channel strips that I use during tracking, but I've never used them as external effects in Cubase so I am curious about the process. My go to is a UA 6176 that I will often just use the compressor section fed by my Warm Audio WA273 or WA12's or Focusrite ISA One or UA 710.

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  Рік тому +1

      Yes, with analog gear, you can commit and bounce so you can use an Analog gear on other channels. I like to record with the VTRC a lot, I will use it on vocals if I didn't record with it. If you already record with your analog preamps, I don,t see the use to use them during mixing though. However, if you happen to mix tracks that were recorded with a clear audio interface preamp, you can use your analog gear to add color and vibe to those tracks

    hi Chris. Did you really wanted to let the LowCut at 80 Hz when you tested the Bass?

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  Рік тому +1

      Yes, cause I boosted at 80Hz also, and that works well with this type of passive EQ. You get low end control, and also fatness.

  • @muhamedaliismaili

    Forgot to ask you what's the differences between Cremé and VTRC?

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  Рік тому +2

      The VTRC is a Channel strip (Mono) that has a preamp, a 3 band Passive EQ, and 2 Compressors, and the Crème is a Stereo VCA Compressor with a 2 band Passive EQ

    Hi Chris..how is the tube rush? Tube noise level? I do worry a lot about this issue..I got my UAD6176 and it was so noisy..UA asked me to send it back to where I purchased it but it's too far..so I took the risk, sending it to my local and reliable technician..what he did was to change the IC of the output channel to a better one..problem solved! No more annoying tube noise.
    Considering this as another hardware, interested but the tube noise would be a concern. :(
