    Great job with this. Not always a subject that is easy to explain. I also use analog summing; as well as Studio One software, and an Apollo interface. Your video confirms that the way that I originally set up my summing and and how I currently use it (from the routing to the printing) is correct and exactly the same way that you have it! 😊 Good to know because setting it all up was pretty confusing and not very fun! Thank you!

    Hi David, thanks for the great tutorial!! I got the the Tegeler tube summing mixer and just getting my head around summing. My interface has 16 outs so I was planning to dedicate 8 outs to the summing mixer so that I can mix through it from the beginning. My question is the following: to hear my mix and what I'm doing I need to make my return go to an audio track and "record enable" it, correct?. The problem is that when I solo a single track for instance, to hear it, I need to also solo the "record enabled" track. If I "solo safe" it doesn't work somehow. So if I want to hear anything in solo, I have to manually also go solo that return audio track. Is there a better way?

    Hi David, may I ask one more question? I am using the tegeler summing mixer and wonder if it is normal that the output is about 7.5db quieter than the signal coming in (even with the big knob being at 0db)? Thanks!!

  • @julesplace9107
    @julesplace9107 4 роки тому

    Question not specific to Tegeler, my Interface only has 4 outs, so is there a different unit you would recommend that wasn't as pricey (less ins)? Also, would running either each channel or even each bub through an analog tube channel yield a favorable result?

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy
      @HomeRecordingMadeEasy  4 роки тому +1

      No less expensive unit I can think of. Good summing mixes are not cheap. Thee are some things out there that are less expensive but honestly I would not use them

    I am looking at getting a antelope interface which has only dsub connection, so if I do dsub to dsub does it automatically give you all the outsputs!!!!? or you still need to get physical ones also, 8 physical 8 outs?

    Is the processing you had on the return 7-8 recorded onto the print track? If it was it would of been nice to hear the A/B
    comparison without those plug-ins enabled

    is correct saying that you are already creating a sort of analog summing using the NLS plugins of Waves? cause is like sending to a physical mixer with it's saturation.. So actually you are doubling the summing mixer now :)

    do you think it would be a waste for me to just hook up 2ins/2outs and do the routing in the daw?
    I really like the sound of this box so maybe I thought I could just use it for my 2bus/group stems running through the box at a time then print and repeat for other stereo groups and so on.
    I'm just asking since I'm not using multible ins/outs simultaneously. Thanks

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy
      @HomeRecordingMadeEasy  2 роки тому

      Sure, you can do that but for this amount of money I would tell you get something like an SSL Fusion as opposed to a summing mixer

    I'm not sure whether you covered this in another video, but I'd like to know whether it pays to use static EQ at all when I can use dynamic instead? Should I throw away my Fab ProQ2 and just use Waves F6, Neutron or Ozone Dynamic EQ instead? That is, when would you still use static EQ? I'm thinking that there are some color EQs like the Pultec, or the Neve 1073 that can add some sweetness (esp on group busses and the 2Buss). Would you agree? Would you say that Dynamic EQ is more useful for subtractive EQing, and the vintage EQs better for additive?
    It seems as though there's a trend to use dynamic processing over static - see Maserati on vocals and others...
    Thank you for your help.

    The Apollo Thunderbolt must be different from my Apollo Firewire. I have Monitor L/R plus Line Outs 1 through 8. So If I send Line Outs 1 through 8 to my summing mixer, I still have Monitor L/R available for something else. It's strange that they did away with Line Outs 5 and 6.
