I have this unit on the master bus and while it takes a few minutes of adjusting comp/flux /intensity it is a magic box that adds warmth depth and clarity all at the same time. I have it doing just a little but once you hear it on your mix, you do not want to take it off. Of course Drum busses, acoustics, synths and vocals sound amazing. Spot on Review. Thanks
Super cool video!
I Loved the audio samples what you used, and also the "live" ways as you demonstrated it!
Included full of freq spectrum, to hear the magic
I love that you can hear this thing working even when it's not fully in saturation yet. Definitely fattens up the whole mix in a very nice musical way. Compression also seems to work really well... at least with the material you used.
Detents, the knobs are detented.
Dented means damaged. Awesome unit from Tegeler Audio, thanks.
Well musicstudios call it Stepped knobs.
I think he refers to the Dutch 1:1 translation. In German we say "gerastert" but "gezahnt" - makes sense in German as well. And "gezahnt" is related to "dental" which of course has a different meaning but I see the logic behind, perhaps this is why he said dented. We call a rack wheel "Zahnrad" wich translate literally to "tooth wheel" and those knobs behave like a rack wheel. I don't know if you can follow me or if Wytse meant it that way but I somehow understand why he came up with dented.
Or...he just made a straight mistake 😁
@@Mansardian Well, either way, his English is great. I’m Australian but I live in France. I speak French pretty well but I make plenty of mistakes and I appreciate it when people correct me. And yes you could say stepped knobs as well.
@@carljohnson9096 yep, stepped or detented are both correct
I will, from now forward, call them dented. Dented they are.
I have it...still testing
Nice to see you on this channel. Can't wait for your conclusion on the device
Always love Streaky's reviews. Anxiously awaiting this one...
I think we really need to support these company’s. I have seen many come an go. This company has some really cool products. Their unique for sure.
I'm looking forward to your review. The way I understood this thing works is quite different from what wytse tells - there is only one output transformer in this unit, but actually a silicone/germanium diode limiter which gets fed through some kind of transient detection circuit that hast 3 changeable time constants - which are the 'flux modes' Eisen, Kobalt and Nickel. The compressor before the 'flux' transient shaping limiter is not meant to be a great mixbus compressor but to enhance transients so they can be smoothed and saturated more precisely with the limiter section afterwards.
Maybe you're able to show what it actually does with some waveform views?
Either of you two guys used the Handsome Audio Zulu? Would love to hear your thoughts on the comparisons.
If only you reviewed plugins the same way....
party on ! Garth --- i love your videos , watch them regularly , great info !
Beautiful piece of gear. Thank you for the review.
You are REALLY moving along with your studio. I seem to remember it with so little. Visiting as I do I see the changes, the gear - your hard work! I know sometimes I am unkind about your "snake oil" series, It's not for me - but seeing your hard work expanding your knowledge, studio and all is very inspiring. Well Done! A true inspiration. A move soon? for the studio?
Not sure about moving, I'm in a pretty ideal location here with other creative people. It's difficult to find a good space for a professional studio, since most buildings are not suited due to neighbouring noise.
Love mine. Amazing 😀 on guitars, synths, drums and even vocals.
I think the thing missing from this unit is a wet/dry knob. It would be ideal if you get the saturation/ compression happening just as you like but then dial the overall mix down to 30% wet. It isn't the same turning the saturation/ comp down 70%. You asked about any way to improve this video- really liked it, but the audio examples should be louder in the mix compared to your voice. Thank you for this review.
Love the blue light! And literally everything else about this device
This was a good demonstration in which I could clearly hear the variations on my near fields. The “iron transformer” used on the bass was excellent and one could really hear that elusive quality - analogue sound. A very inspirational sound. Sit a B3 or B4 on top of that also routed through this Tegeler Audio Magnetismus 2 wizard box with of course different settings and I suspect it would give the sound of a Spencer Davis vinyl like “I'm A Man”. A track that still stands up today. My only problem is the price :) but it certainly is not snake oil. Thanks for the review.
That look right around 10 minutes in. Id be proud of that sound too
I was just about to say that! At about 9:58 Just such wonderful smugness!!
I like it when you review hardware, hopefully there will be more videos longer than 10 minutes
This is what the director of my graduate program would call "strong tobacco"
it does give a nice gentle "lift" on the masterbuss but it's kinda the same effect as the overstayer modular channel except the overstayer does so much more..
Great review! Very interesting product. I have the same problem you have with Tegeler. Every unit I try never leaves my studio 🤦🏻♂️🤣🤗. Great brand, great people and better products 👏🏼
Oh that compression has really nice action! Was not expecting that
That thing is perfect for dialing in a great sound with the right amount of saturation.
11:20 really good on the mix, thanks for showing !
Distortion, warmth and sometimes if you are lucky, silk!Rupert Neve started out making custom transformers and boy could he work magic with them. The blue light is less distracting, less likely to bother your peripheral vision after an hour or two. Tegeler are making some very sweet stuff and building it wall, and then there is the box! I like the sound on bass, almost getting a Tuba sound from the sine wave bass, after a few hours playing around, you could really build some nice sounds.
So far I have not heard anything Tegeler makes that is not very good, I can see tons of applications for this, especially for things like bass pedals or keyboard bass, even double bass. Only a few sleepless nights and it would be getting used regularly. Thanks for another review, can't even go into a store to hear anything here at the moment.
Great thing! I had not encountered this thing. It's yummy! Great video, bro. Thanks for it.
Sounds great! Hoping they make a plugin-controlled version at some point then I'll get one.
So cool thanks for the video!!!
Tegeler Audio makes some unique, wild, and fantastic sounding Audio processors. The reverb and Compressor is also killer.
My Kali lp6's and JBL 310s sub approve of this sweet-sounding EQ 😁😁
Sounds really good. For Masterbuss it would be good to be able to de emphasize the low end into the whole unit. Id probably put my emphasize/de empasize eq chain before and after this unit in the daw.
Yeah, feel like they should have added a switchable highpass filter in the sidechain.
Nice! Could you please review either the Apogee Pultec or the RuleTec? Love your reviews!
I need to buy, like right now. They haven't missed yet!
Was excellent on the sine! Even when subtle
Huh, weird... Audio gets magnetic on my HDD all the time, and no magic happens!
its deleting your files, when you magneticing your harddrive.
in theory you could probably make some kind of weird magnetic delay by taking a hard drive and running analog audio into the heads and back out, and locking their position at one track. people have done it with floppies.
@@famitory you can make sound from anything. i think when you are smart and creative anough you can make sound modifiy unit from paper
@@famitory floppy’s don’t spin at 7200rpm so you could actually hear the delay on a floppy. On an HDD, not so much.
@@PyroKalfje Hard Drives are a magnetic storage device.
Hey man, thanks for the detailed review! I'm looking for a piece of hardware to do exactly what this does to that sine bass, for use after a crossover in a PA sound system. Long story short I want to recreate the effect of an overdriven tube amp... Have you come across any other gear or types of hardware that gets a similar sound? I feel it's a waste of money getting one of these just to use one half of it on a single, mono channel! Thanks :)
I would love to see you try the overstayer modular channel!!
the cobalt/nickel setting reminds me of driven too hard agfa pure chrome or double coated basf chrome tapes, cobalt-doped tapes sound so much different when distorting
Man, I really think you would love Gyraf Audio’s G21 Infundibulum. I was in a studio last year that had one and it’s got headroom for days. They’re about 7 years old now, should be something on the used market.
This is dopeeee !
This is great for 808’s!!
I would like to see you reviewing the overstayer modular channel
Kind of a dope loop beat going on here.
Best Audio YT-Channel ever!
Nice review! Are you going to keep it? I could imagine, that you have no shortage when it comes to tape saturation^^.
Great review. What about a demonstration of a whole Tegeler Audio chain, using all units you have. Maybe in comparison with plugins.
"Machnetismus"...I love the Dutch accent 😄
Seems quite similar to the Empirical Labs FATSO, although rather more affordable. As you're very fond of your tape, I'd be interested to know what you think of it (ditto the Neve 542, which is in the same sort of ballpark).
FATSO in my opinion is overrated (I have one for sale). Neve 542 is nice, but not shockingly so - I rarely use it. Magnetismus is used more often here than both units you mentioned together.
Nice. Around 12:30 it actually seems to be adding clarity despite being a saturator basically. Some dip in the mids, a rounding in the lows and a crisping up of the highs? Maybe? Just listtening on hd25's thats what it seems. Sounds lovely, i really like their stuff but don't own any
🤔🤔🤔💭 Where did I put my TRS to cassette car stereo adapter?
This was actually a really interesting video, enjoyed all of it honestly. Really want to try analogue guy at some stage, but I am still making music in my bedroom lol
Shadowhills too
Thanks for this new video. I always wait for them because I like the way you present the goods or your ideas, experience. That's great.
I'm in contact with tegeler and waiting for the newt production because for the moment they are out of stock. but I have a doubt : on a master bus, to give some glue and warmth, would you use the Creme or the magnetiser ? Thanks in advance for your feedback. Stay safe.
I would use them both 😅
@@Whiteseastudio This does'nt help me so much !!
Holy transformers, Batman! Everything sounds so boring in bypass. Loving the distortion on the highs (and also on lows, of course) and the "de-boxing" effect on bass drums. Crispy, rounded bliss!
💡Run it in sidechain on the Master bus instead to get more control over the distortion effect.
wonderfull...unit and review. ja, fingerspitzengefühl...😅 habe sehr gelacht. liebe grüße an gehen raus nach holland. meine lieblingsnachbarn. ihr holländer seit sehr entspannte dudes. woran das wohl liegen mag...🤔😂(spaß)
Could you review SSL Native plugins next????
that would be great!!
Right? They sound pretty good to me, but an expert opinion would be great too.
Very Good
This.Is.Amazing.
Nice test Great device
How do they technically do the magnetisation inside the unit? The materials of the first two settings remind me of cassette tapes and floppy discs, they use either ferro oxide (rust powder) or some cobalt based magnetic material. With both of them you can see the difference in the colour of the material, either brown for ferro or black for cobalt based formulations. Is there some kind of magnetically coating film thing in there?
Theres a transformer in there
that drum track sounds very "radioheadish" especially with the distortion
I have the magnetismus and i use it less on master bus because i think it distors a little too much. But love it on drums, bass and synths busses. When i use it on masters I often use it complementary with my EQP1 and I tame 5k after the magnetismus. And sometimes it could be a great combo.
Marc. I agree. Have had mine for few months and I like it. Different is good
You said comment with things you might do better, so I figured I would just give a recommendation! It might be good to have something on the screen telling whether the unit is bypassed or not, how you are changing the settings, etc. Just a small graphic, or even just a word, on the screen in editing might help with understanding what you are doing!
Great idea!
Please try de Arturia emulation of the 1176 or the neve 1073! They are really really good!
Sounds great, but needs a wet/dry mix knob imo. I guess since it's analog I could just wet/dry with a mixer :P
It seems like the sweet-spot between doing 'nothing' and doing 'too much' is very small. What would REALLY make me buy this thing is if the sound went IN sounding 'Warm' and came OUT sounding 'Clear' (like bypassed)!
so like a de-saturator? maybe a waveshaper with a negative (downwards-bent) slope can achieve that? you can always EQ your audio and while that's a manual process, it will allow you to imprint your taste
@@krass76 I don't think clarity means specifically de-saturated
I know saturation adds harmonics, therefore more info and possible mud, but I don't think "saturated" and "clear" are two opposite side of the same coin
This issue could have more to do with the processing of channels and groups in relation to the master than the master processing itself
Anyway, among various options, eq's and multiband-compressors should do the job imho
Your little happy face 😄
Man. That is neat.
I know it wasn't a very long part of the video, but the focus on the dislike the blue light was a little bewildering.
This, my Friend, is made in Germany 🇩🇪😁✅
You are so funny... I like your videos.
So this machine is a mix of Pultec looks and " knob steps " feel, and kind of Shadow Hills transfo types. And it kind of do something interesting to the sound
with saturation a la Culture Vulture sauce....
I am an old lucky dude cause I've got them all in the studio... But sadly I don't have time to fool around with those toys anymore. My clients want instant remix
for $ 10. Joking but not by much.
So enjoy your toys cause in the end that is what they are nowadays...
Replace that with a PreSonus channel strip and put a video about that. I haven't got those yet but that is where I am heading.
Only this frickin dude would have a problem with the blue light LOL.
Just picked one up. I have to blame this channel for a lot. 3rd Tegeler unit you ‘forced’ to be purchased 😅. Does it run warm or hot in terms of ventilation needs?
So the unit goes all the way to 11. Is it endorsed by Spinal Tap as well?
KUSH AUDIO - SNAKE OIL!!! WHEN?
maybe parallel on the mix. Nice gear!
reminds me of my 3630 turn the gain up starts distorting then dial the compressor to duck the overly distorted kick and voila
I ran a magnet over my cassette tapes and magic my tunes were gone 😮
steped knobs, the switch knob is the bybas in the right corner
To me this filters the extreme low end ... did you put an analyzer over it?.. It may be that the increase in tops tilts the response.. but end the "Ison" delivered less bottom.. Nice Demo.. Thanks
well better low end needs bigger transformers which are harder to saturate, without core saturation there'll be no distortion
@@solkompleksowa444 Interesting point...
Hey guys!
I would like to add some hardware to my new studio and am currently looking for really useful extensions and sound improvers for my plugins. Also being able to get away from the screen sometimes. I currently have a Cranborne 500 Adat rack with Carnaby Harmonic EQ, SSL Violet EQ and SPl Kultube. But I'm not entirely convinced yet and I still can replace everything relatively well with plugins. Your experiences would certainly be very helpful.
Tegeler ... the company that has great gear with the poorest marketing of them all! I was very close to getting the Magentismus 2 once and decided for other options as there was so little reliable info at the time. This review would have been good to have 2 years ago :P good work tho WSS
what did you get instead?
needs a mix control. be cool in parallel on the mix bus
I friggin love blue lights on gear lol. why don't you like it??
Their website is awesome
PEAK ROUNDING
Fingerspitzengefühl!
Fingerspitzengefühl! Great.
Nice
So this is basically Devil-Loc but not quite as mental? Cool.
Do tegeler give you these units free or what?
Check out their website, they have this program where they let you have their gear for testing for 2 weeks
Perhaps it is due to my ears, damaged from mixing for 20 years (and sometimes too loud for sure) but I feel no need to get this instead of my distortion plugins. 🤷♂️ ...for 1600,-...in lockdown times...causing a heavy cut in my financial situation...
If I want to know how make your basstarp, subscribe your petrion?
FINGER TIP FEELING!!!
All sources sounded better without to me. Great looking unit, but not sure why this is much of an upgrade from ST Decapitator or FF Saturn. Thanks for the review.
blue lights are cool ... Darude thinks so also
Fifty years from now collectors will be talking about the cheesy blue LED era and it will absolutely date this generation and era. There will also be a stigma surrounding dates. Example: That's a post 2021 unit as opposed to the "good" era of 2020 and below. It will be hilarious what the future versions of us say about us, LOL. :)
You are welcome :)
👀
Why does he flip the switch, in intervals, at precisely 53 BPM???? 11:40
The biggest Problem i see is not the space its the money.. if i would be rich i would get some. I like the Nikel Sound, it adds nice Highend to the Signal. So it is like an dynamik exiter, can i say that? I would do the setting for getting the nice sweetspot & than forget doing any thing else with it. Just a pice in the mastering chain. But thats only what i would do.. and i have no mastering Chain at all course i am just a poor and unsuccessfull artist.. but if i had the money thats what i think it will be usefull. And if i got money for a second device, i would choose it on my basslines to fatten up. Couse that Analog Saturation was realy nice.
blue is cool
You know... the thing
I love "things"
