    Great vid
    From my perspective they all miss one important (for me) functionality that is ubiquitous now days, snd that is the ability to listen to the transmitted audio by.. wireless earbuds!
    I do tennis recordings and I really need to hear the content on court from where I am videoing the match (60'off court), but do far I have yet to find a set that does this.
    They all have wired headphone connections but not bluetooth.

    • @TomWadeCine
      @TomWadeCine  Рік тому +1

      I would absolutely love wireless Bluetooth audio connection. That would be killer. I wonder if it would hurt the range. I would be ok with some range reduction because I’ll never need 200meters or range but Bluetooth monitoring would be a huge plus.

      @TomWadeCine I actually wrote Rode (I have a couple rodes) telling them the need and they said they would take it to the engineers. ThaT was about a year ago.
      I also use DJI products and gopro and am somewhat surprised no one has done this yet. Range from the receiver isn't needed , so that really is not a problem. It would only be if one was trying to get the digital from a transmitter.
      Thanks again for the vids and lending an ear

    What do you do when the batteries are no longer chargeable?

    • @TomWadeCine
      @TomWadeCine  Рік тому

      If it’s under the 3 year warranty, then replace it. Otherwise, the next best thing will most likely be out. I doubt I’ll hang on to this more than 5 years. The batteries should be fine until then. Battery technology has come a long way.

      This is why I prefer professional wireless systems like the Sennheisers. There's a reason why news stations and Hollywood use them. These little wireless systems are for small productions on a budget with mediocre sound quality. But, to your point, when the battery dies, you have to replace the units or take them apart. With Pro systems, you just change the alkaline or rechargeable batteries. I've had my Senn's for 10 years and they work just as great now as the day I bought them. There's no comparison.

    Just talking about quality control.
    We haven’t been impressed with the DJIs at work. They pick up some strange interference when using the rode lavs. It’s weird and sounds like radio interference but only happens with some lav mics. It’s honestly unacceptable, an external lav shouldn’t be causing sound issues like that.
    It also has been skipping in its internal recording losing data and also causing desyncing. There was a UA-cam video I came across where someone had the same issue if you’re curious to see what I mean.
    It’s likely a faulty unit with the skipping, but it’s extremely frustrating. I’m thinking it’s possible if you don’t regularly format the devices it causes this? Will be testing that over the coming months.
    In the mean time I have picked up the new Hollyland Lark Max hoping it doesn’t have the same issues as DJI and Rode

    • @TomWadeCine
      @TomWadeCine  Рік тому

      I’m sorry to hear that. Thanks for sharing your experience though. I think it’s important to hear all perspectives. I’ve had zero issues with mine and I often use the Rode lav with my DJI have you tried contacting DJI for service or warranty. How do you like the Hollyland? When it first came out, it looked like an expensive dji. I’ve heard good things.

    • @jockturner1547
      @jockturner1547 Рік тому +1

      @@TomWadeCine The rode issue isn’t something DJI can fix and as far as the reports go, it’s seems to happen on every DJI device.
      Its not only the rode lapel mic that causes it, many other mics do at various levels of severity, the Rode mic just appears to be one of the worse. Do some research on it and test it with your mics. I’m willing to be it’s there. It can be pretty minor, just a faint repeating buzzing sound in the back and rarely will completely ruin a take.
      I implore you to research the issue, it’s a highly highly common one people have had and even if you haven’t experienced it, better to know the risks and what to look out for so you know if it’s happening to yours.
      As for the Hollyland, it’s actually the same price as the DJI mic, at least in my country, although arguably cheaper because they bundle 2 free lav mics in the purchase as well. Testing wise so far they are of the same quality mic wise as the DJI, I haven’t picked up on any interference like on the DJI as of yet. However, I am yet to do a proper shoot with them so I can report back after putting through the paces :)
      The DJIs are awesome but definitely do some research in the lav mic issue and be aware of the problem. The internal skipping seems to be somewhat common, but I’m doing some testing on whether or not it’s related to how full the internal storage is.

      @@jockturner1547 RFI coming over the mic's cable is the most likely scenario. The amount probably depends on how much power the transmitter is putting out. DJI should (and may already) ramp down the power when the signal is strong to help prevent. I understand this is not ideal but as a test you could try taking regular aluminum foil and wrap it over the lav mic cable. Keep any extra cable away from the transmitter. Maybe mount the transmitter on the rear of the person and run the wire around the front of the person. See if that elminates the noise. Then experiment with the wire routing and maybe try just sticking any excess wire in a aluminum foil pocket.

      @jockturner1547 Рік тому +2

      @@spyder000069 I mean, I could, but that defeats the purpose of the DJI mics, so I’m not going to... Id sooner just go back to my older radio lavs through XLR that didnt experience this problem. Other 2.4ghz wireless mics dont seem to have this interference issue as seriously as the DJI does, the more sensible thing to do, is simply look for a tool that doesn’t have these issues.
