wow, i never thought the sonic/vocaloid situation was this bad. I usually join the streams and i have noticed that ocassioanlly people do ask about sonic/vocaloid content. I respect that you didn't "sellout" (per say) and kept working on the stuff you actually wanna talk about. And hey, for what is worth, i'm happy to be one of those 5k+ people. I personally really enjoy your content and more than the content, the person behind the video (plus you have a really nice soothing voice but nevermind that) . Yeh it's most noticeable in chatting live streams, as those tend to draw in a pretty large crowd. And aww thanks!! Tbh, I think on UA-cam these days it's pretty much unavoidable to not sell out (in the 2014 sense of the word, aka sponsors, merch, Patreon promotion). For me, it's more a matter of being highly against content milking/steering your content in a direction that's most profitable/brings your channel most "success". Unless I have more things to say on the topic of course. But in the case of Sonic, there simply wasn't much else left to talk about. Plus I don't want to brand myself as a "Sonic" channel. Same goes for the Vocaloid stuff.

Heh, that was mildly funny. I did noticed I was getting more "engaged" on the recent videos, but I linked that as something that happened "by accident", mostly because your content is quite varied and I like to just sit back and watch you talk about stuff. Although it is sad that your viewership is under 10%(which is what I assume is the normal for most channels, since from what I can gather that's the number most channel I follow are hitting), it is inspiring to see you take that with a stride and focus on getting more people on what you like to produce. I hope that you'll hit such landmarks and still find it enjoyable to do what you are doing.
Awww thanks!! I mean from what I've noticed, or at least from most channels I watch, it tends to be more around the 30 to 40% mark. Again, there sadly isn't much I can do to change people's minds on getting them to watch my current sort of content, without resorting to catering (which I really despise).
But I've really been enjoying creating my newer videos (post July 2020 update video)!! 😊😊
As one of the ”to young to relate”, I still find all of your content intreesting, even without the relatebility, and I honestly really like the new videos. Its really sad that the amazing content you make now only is getting watched by the 5%, but just as some other people here are saying, your content is amazing, so no worrys about it!

I discovered your channel thanks to UTAU tutorials. Some of them referred to other parts of the series which weren't on UA-cam yet. I subscribed for them. Then I saw that Sonic video. I wanted to see more Sonic content, but I was OK with the fact that Sonic will appear on this channel only as quick mentions. You sounded not like other people from other English-speaking channels I watch and I liked it. I liked the art style, cute bunnies here and there and I just was having a good time watching your videos, so I decided to stay here. And then the video about growing up non-English came out. Hi Yuu, please do not let your inconsistent view count get to your head TOO much. The UA-cam Algorithm is a cruel mistress and I don't even remember seeing your last video in my sub box.
Your content has not had this quality decline that you think it might have, UA-cam has just never been any good at consistently promoting even the channels us viewers actively subscribe to. Another reason the view counts may be going down is simply due to the fact that older videos have been around longer and as a result have had more time to accumulate views. But the best thing I can suggest is trying to work around the sketchy system of UA-cam that's being held together by scotch-tape and to start promoting your presence on other platforms such as Twitter and Discord.
I don't know how useful this advice will be, but please don't take the dysfunctional platform that is UA-cam too personally.
Nah nah no worries, I personally also really like to believe my content is of pretty decent quality. And normally I wouldn't hyper-focus this much on views this much. But it's just this consistent trend that I've noticed over the past 7 months or so in declining view count vs. steady sub growth that kinda worries me.
But yeh I've also seen other people saying something about my channel not showing up in their sub box. Really sucks. But unfortunately not much that can be done about that, other than people enabling the notification bell thingy maybe.
And yeh I have been thinking of perhaps pushing my Patreon, Discord server, Twitter and other social media a bit more in future uploads. Even if I don't really like the whole _what's up gamerzzz hit that like button, subscribe and follow me on Twitter, etc. etc._ type ramble, it kinda does become necessary with how garbage UA-cam has become at notifying people 😅😅

This is the first video from you that I watched in nearly 2 years. I often go through my subbed channels and clean them out but for some reason I wanted to stay subbed to your channel despite not keeping up to date with your content. As you said yourself, I think your content is great quality. I hope you stay optimistic and keep doing what you love.
I found your channel because of some of your videos about Touhou, but stayed for how funny and enjoyable your videos are. Even when I'm not really into any of the other topics you talk about sometimes (like the vocaloid stuff, drawing, buying plushies, etc), I still watch them anyways just because of how you manage to get my attention even when I'm not really related or interested about them, just by how you talk about them. You make them intesresting to watch. It's not like "Hey, She uploaded a video about something I'm interested in, let's give it a look", but rather "Hey, Yuu uploaded something, let's see what she brings this time". I don't know how to explain it. xD
Also, I sometimes I don't watch your content, because I can't the moment I see it in my feed and then I forget to do so later.

But nah nah I totally get what you mean!! I'm actually subscribed to a handful of people for a similar reason. Not because I necessarily always care about the subject matter they cover, but instead just wanting to know what they have to say/how they react/etc. Just enjoying their content because of them as a person.
A good example in my case is SomeOrdinaryGamers. Occasionally he'll cover cybersecurity stuff, which I have 0 interest in, but I still watch such videos regardless, simply because he's himself.
Ah no need to be sorry that's alright!! If you do wish to watch my content but just don't have time in the moment, I highly recommend youtube's Watch Later feature. I use it a ton too for storing videos I plan on watching at a later point in time!! 😊😊
I subscribed because I like your voice and your artstyle, but the thing that kept me around was your honesty. I'm a recent sub... but in a more general sense I actively contribute to the whole sub vs active viewer kind of issue as anyone who has seen my subscriptions can tell you. For me I have a hard time admitting to myself that I've moved on from a channel and so I will tend to hold onto things like that until they're truly dead or I haven't watched their content in years. Part of me wants to hold on out of some sense of loyalty, and part of me is just waiting to see if they will release something that will hook me back in.
Anyway I definitely think your 5k or so is actively growing so if that's the direction you want to take things I think you actually have a promising future. My sub was so recent I can still viscerally remember the moment the algorithm started pushing your content into my feed. At first I didn't understand why I was getting all of the pencil sketch style cartoon thumbnails about variety topics since at the moment I was purely focused on gaming optics. Then I saw your Eurobeat video pop up and the rest was history.
P.S. I really enjoy your relationship videos, and the fact that you've consistently put out the effort to respond to both my own and other's comments is a lovely cherry on top. I don't think I've seen any other channel that maintains that level of dialogue with its audience. Even if that dynamic were to change the level of commitment you displayed has won me over as a sub.
I mean that's totally fair. Though I do feel that after a certain amount of time, say.. A year or so, and that person still hasn't published any content you feel drawn to. It's probably best to let them go. There's nothing as saddening, or at least speaking from personal experience, as seeing that massive sub count, yet only a "handful" of people really watching your content. It really makes you think like: Oh fuck did I lose touch with my audience? Is my content just not that fun to watch anymore?
Mehh as of now I think it's shrinking more than it is growing 😅 Though I do still hold out hope that it might change at some point!! But I think it'll also depend a lot on what UA-cam's algorithm decides to do with my videos.

Congrats on 100K Yuu! (: Honestly I subscribed to you back in 2019 because I liked how you were a Eurobeat woman of culture and because I kinda liked your personality. Idk, you just had a certain charm back then. Yea having people subbing to you all because of "this one vid" kinda sucks. It overshadows your other vids which you've also put some effort into and deserve just as much views. In my case I'm only sitting at 1000 subs because of my meme compilations. The AMV's and fan openings which I made don't really get that much, tho some of them are gaining a little bit of traction.

I subbed during the Sonic video era. I loved that video, but moreso for its presentation and relatable nature than the fact that I wanted more of nothing but Sonic. I've loved every single video that you've done, whether it be about fandoms, or your more mature subjects. I love the presentation of it(even the awkward phase of "Dead Eye Yuu"), and your calm voice. Once I've watched it once, I love to just have them in the background and listen, because of your calming voice. I've suggested your channel to a friend who was upset because all she watched was drama channels, and she needed something calmer.
I know this is a long shot, but why not make a second channel? One video for each, separating your mature/relatable content VS your lighthearted, fandom content. It'd really be able to separate your target audience, like you wish. But I know that it'd also take more work and management.

Thanks for the suggestion, however I really wouldn't want to split up my channel. I like keeping everything in one place, and being able to look back on certain stages of my channel (hence why I also didn't create a new channel after my old UTAU videos). At most I might consider making a back-up channel for livestreams and the like at some point. But that's about it 😓

I first started following you around the time and because of the first toho doujin video and I stayed for the funny and honest presentation and personality. Don't worry about the dead subs, you'll build and audience over time and if not, a thousand is still pretty nice considering that the majority of the people I am subscribed to have less than that per video.

Awww thank you so much!! 😊😊 I mean personally I feel that "milking content" is only acceptable if you truly have more to say on a specific subject. E.g. I'm planning on making more relationship videos as I just have a lot I wanna share. But doing it just for views is just so... Fake. Like sure in the short term it may look like a great idea, but in the long run it'll end up defining your channel and trap you in a certain type of content, because that's what you made yourself known for. Usually ending up with the creator feeling very burned out (unless they have like.. A burning passion for the topic), and thus taking a big toll on their mental well being.
Instead, people should just stay true to themselves 😊 and stick to making content they get emotional fulfilment out of. Not what gets the most views.
You should be proud of your current work! You talk about things you're passionate about, and you do am excellent job making your videos entertaining and visually lovely! I noticed the view thing too- the yt algorithm can really suck and push content just for arbitrary reasons that don't work with what a creator's goals are. Please never doubt the quality of your current content though!
As a watcher who started with the UTAU tutorials and followed to your videos about interpersonal stuff and 2kki- you have come SO far! I'm really sorry the algorithm/userbase hasn't shown you that... you should feel no shame for talking about it, it's a serious problem for growing creators. On one hand I'm very well aware it's probably not me that's a fault, but on the other hand I really don't like blaming external forces for my failings 😅 (especially when you so so many people say "the only reason I'm not successful is because of the algorithm". I've done so much self-reflection and thinking over the past couple of years about myself, the actions of other people, why people say and do the things they do, attitudes towards life, etc. that I feel it's worth sharing a bunch of my opinions with the rest. And hope other people can relate / perhaps take something away from the things I have to say. Cause I do think a lot of the topics I'm wanting to talk about are just not covered enough. (although I don't intend on making such "deep and serious" topics the main focus of my channel. I still like keeping things fun and lighthearted for the most part)

I can kinda relate since I usually upload edits, I think my channel blew up around March of last year mainly from an edit from a fandom I was in and I was kinda worried that peweople would just expect edits of that fandom from me oof. I don’t upload often but ye, congrats on 100k btw!

I personally found your channel like a month or 2 ago bc of the what is touhou video, but I kept watching your videos because I find them genuinely enjoyable. Do not worry that your viewcount is low due to your content being bad(it's really cool), cus this is clearly simply an algorithm issue. Like those particular videos you mentioned got picked up by the algorithm probably just because of their mass appeal. Lack of SEO does suck indeed (tho the very fact it's become a necessity is sad)

I am totally fine with the choice you made. I also suffered from the same reason. Back in the day I used to make AMV's but now I am focused on art and animation etc. My AMV's were and are still growing with views and likes but my animations and art aren't getting a lot of attention. That is why I decided to hide all my animations from my UA-cam channel and made my channel into an AMV channel. But that is also a choice I made. I am not really into making animations anymore (I am becoming a 3D Artist after all) so that is also why I made my YT channel into an AMV channel. Everyone can choose what they like to do with their channels and people should accept and like it the way it is.

But yeh I think it hits hardest to those people who have made a noticeable switch in their content, as unfortunately, a lot of people do tend to subscribe simply for certain subject coverage. Hence why I personally highly avoid making videos on the same topic twice, unless I'm really invested in said topic and have a lot to share (e.g. Touhou Music, relationship stuff, proxy shop stuff)

It's understandable that you (and every content creator) would feel frustrated because of the disproportionate view counts and I hate to admit it but I'm part of that 95%. Opinion videos and animated story times aren't really my thing (I'm really sorry if this sounds harsh, it's just my preference). I respect that you're being really upfront about it, and it made me watch the last 2/3 videos on your channel that I missed. I can tell you put in a lot of effort into these few videos, even in this subscriber milestone video, and I feel kinda guilty for not watching them on release cuz those video's resonated with me to some extent.
Keep doing what you're doing and you'll eventually attract the right audiences, someday your channel will grow better than before. As for me, I'll be sure to ring that bell and watch every upload from here on out, you got yourself a loyal subscriber o7

If I remember correctly, I'm a newer subscriber actually. I think UA-cam recommended the old Touhou video and that's how I got here, but not only was that video pretty good, I was curious enough and interested enough in the newer videos and their topics as well that I wanted to stick around. They actually are really relatable topics for me personally. Unfortunately, I just never got around to watching them, there are so many people I sub to and stuff, but... I feel pretty bad about that now. I'll make it a mission to go and check them out soon, as I had intended to.

Your thoughts and feelings on this are completely valid, it sucks to put your heart and soul into things and not get the recognition you think that you're due.
If I'm to hazard a guess as to why you have so many subs but not many views I'd mostly chalk it up to a few reasons, I think first of which is that UA-cam's algorithm favours people who upload regularly in numerous ways, generally you have a large gap between your content, this results in UA-cam not promoting your videos as much and sometimes it even results in UA-cam just deciding not to make your videos appear in the sub feeds of people who've actually explicitly subscribed to you, sadly UA-cam doesn't really allow animators and other similar content creators to thrive.
Another reason I'd have to guess is that your content has a rapidly shifting subject matter, sometimes people will subscribe for one type of content and ignore content that isn't similar to it, over the years you've made Sonic content, Anime content, life stories and even videos about Dutch, that's too many audiences for one person to please.
My advice to you would be this: don't worry about how many views you get, you have to if you want to enjoy doing this into the future, sadly UA-cam gives you two options, you can either become a soulless content machine that get's millions of views or you can make what you love but maybe not get so much recognition for it.
Alternatively though, I might recommend trying to build a platform on other sites that don't have these problems, I know you were on Bitchute a while ago but have you considered joining LBRY or another similar site? I'm quite certain that you'd become very very popular on there very very quickly
Yeh a lot of people have been telling me in the comments how this is one of the first videos of mine in months or even years that showed up in their subscription box. Outside of that, I've kinda thrown all "good SEO" practises out of the window as to me it became pretty clear that upload frequency, tags optimization, etc. all doesn't really matter much. I do upload a lot more frequent (once a month, compared to once every 2 or 3 months) than I used to in previous years, yet it doesn't seem to have made much of a difference in video recommendations. So I'm pretty convinced it just picks videos at random and that you just gotta be lucky.
I mostly just upload more frequent now due to personal satisfaction, rather than algorithm benefits.
As for the subject matter, while I think that'd make total sense if I were to do multiple videos on 1 subject, only to then shift to something else and repeat that process. But if every video covers something different you can't really establish an audience simply based off of one specific interest (outside of the Sonic video because that just happened to blow up and attract the wrong audience). Which is exactly what I'm going for. I don't want to establish my channel around just 1 subject, as that simply would be detrimental to my mental well being, and channel in the long run.
And nah I personally don't believe in that bleak of an ultimatum. I do think there's a place for content creators like myself. The road to it is just a lot longer than the simple "capitalise on a viral video and become successful quick" scheme.
And I do have backup accounts on Bitchute and Odysee yep! (though I think Bitchute stopped auto-mirroring UA-cam videos for some reason) Just to make sure. However from what I've noticed the audience there isn't quite ready for my type of content yet. Or at least, most of the people there seem to dwell more on the tech/finance/political content. Perhaps in the future it may find it's spot there 😊
