What's worse is that we could've had a better Minecraft movie. About a decade ago, a fan-made Minecraft movie was in the works that would've been darker in tone. They released a concept trailer, and it played into the isolation and dreariness of playing Minecraft solo. There wasn't even a Minecraft wiki back then, so you really didn't know what was around the corner. Mojang forced the team to shut it down because they had a Minecraft movie in the works. _This_ is what they shut down that fan movie for.
It looks 1:1 same as Jumanji. 4 people somehow get to video game world, they have some item that they must 'deliever' somewhere, they find a guy stuck in that fictional world that will help them. Everything is the same.
what makes it even more saddening is that instead of having a more unique narrative, like exploring the "lore" or something like that, they decided to make a jumanji/isekai style movie, AGAIN. why do they keep doing the same "humans end up in a franchise/game world and they need to escape" narrative? it's so boring and repetitive. and it's not even a random game, it's MINECRAFT, which is all about creativity, this teaser shows no creativity at all
I would've loved a group of friends playing Minecraft and then discovering a huge mystery like the deep dark, the origin of the nether or anything like that. The Piglins invading the overworld is a story been told over and over again. I am a bit tired of them being the villain when there's so much lore to explore in this game. Jack Black was like, “I’ll be in your stupid movie but I’m just gonna wear what I’m wearing right now and I’m not fucking shaving.” “Ok Mr. Black , we’ll turn your shirt blue in post.”
They’ve been doing that since Dungeons. Or maybe Minecraft Worlds, if anybody even remembers that. They decided that for the game to branch out into other genres, they needed items and ideas that don’t work in the regular game. Hammers, sickles, daggers, etc from Dungeons don’t exist in the regular game and they probably never will. The same thing goes for Minecraft Legends, with all the random stuff in that game that has nothing to do with the actual game. I honestly think they’ve tried to completely change how Minecraft looks as a universe from outside from surrounding games and properties. The piglins in the game don’t have much of a presence and aren’t what you think of when you think of “antagonists” of Minecraft. The same for the Illagers from Dungeons. But if they force the idea through other mediums, they might be able to make you think they have fresh ideas in regular Minecraft

As someone who (unfortunately) spots and focuses on visual inconsistencies, I would have a very uncomfortable experience watching this movie if they don’t fix that before release 😅
I would kill for an animated movie that starts as a slice of life of steve in minecraft's world just living. Taking care of his farm, greeting villagers, but then slowly beginning to unravel the secrets within the nether and the big climax is the wither, with a post-credits of a orange haired woman chopping woods in the same forest steve did it.
What sucks is that the director of this movie jared hess is known for making funny movies such as Napoleon Dynamite, which came out 20 years ago, and Nacho Libre, which also stars Jack Black.
It's already Jumanji. "Four people, all with different lives that somehow/someway came together, are sucked into a game world where they must fight and learn to survive. They are helped by someone who's been stuck in the world for so long they've basically mastered the life in the game. Eventually, at the end of the adventure where all of the characters have grown passed their personal issues finally return home, however a character has fallen in love with the game world so heavily that they have a tearful goodbye and separate, leaving another mentor like character in the game for the next set of adventurers in the inevitable sequel that blows like a whale" I guarantee it will follow this beat by beat as it already does from the trailer.
What does Roblox even have? It's a game developing platform, built by the developers and players. A movie on it that will make any sense at all is probably just a documentary film.
I just hope Steve has an illegal Villager breeder where he tries to cage in the others and turns out to be the bad guy. Just the crazy stuff you can do in Minecraft.

The fact Steve isn't played by Chris Pratt or The Rock is a miracle... But saying that, casting Jack Black again to play himself isn't really an improvement either.
They should've made both Jack Black and Chris Pratt play steve at the exact same time with no one pointing out that he's 2 people until the end where Chris pratt gets poorly edited white eyes and becomes herobrine
I bet you that the movie is 1. Jumanji 2. Jack Black is a human trapped here and made the world a better place 3. One of the actors accidentally opens a portal to the Nether 4. Jack Black gets kidnapped and now we must rescue him 5. Montage 6. Wow this is fun! 7. Failure on the plan, infighting begins, the grup breaks up 8. Sad moment until one NPC will say something to motivate the kid 9. Try again and everyone joins to help 10. Jack Black is freed and the nether is closed 11. The real villain was...Herobrine!? I can’t be the only person sick and tired of seeing the same 20ish top actors in every big franchise movie. Borderlands was a perfect example. What even is that cast? None of them resemble the characters they are intended to play. It just looks like garbage.

Can they just stop making live action cartoons? Smurfs and Enchanted already did it, Sonic movies are scrapping the "real world" sidestory, and this movie is just further overusing the Cartoon meets Reality formula. Let's hope the Roblox movie won't be like this, I hope it's just a better Emoji movie
So CaptainSparklez did an interesting video on this today. He met with Rob McElhenney many years ago when he was attached as the director for the Minecraft Movie. Even back then it was supposed to be live action characters moving into a CGI world and asked his opinion on how he thinks that could work and CS told him that he thinks it would be incredibly difficult to pull off and have it look good. Seems like he was right and Rob took his advice and bailed on the project and now we have this mess. Makes me think Microsoft was pushing for this format from the start, and if I had to guess it’s probably because they were wanting to make the kids feel like they were immersed in the world which probably drives some made up engagement sales figures, and also because back then they were pushing for the AR HoloLens version of Minecraft where the boundary between reality and Minecraft were blurred.
I think the idea behind adding known, liked actors was to have something to draw the parents to the cinemas as well or make it more enjoyable for them. They forgot that we had many, many great, full CGI movies in the past, with great storytelling and jokes that were specifically directed at the parents and there was no need for any known faces/actors in there..
Honestly it's kinda odd someone like him wasn't consulted at least in some sense on this movie. You'd think someone like Jordan or DanTDM, as some of the more trusted veterans in the game would be worth talking to on this. But no, the geniuses in charge summarily put this slop out. Figures.
Nah Rob said in an interview in 2020 that the movie got pulled from him. He said he always wanted to direct the movie since he was a massive fan of the games and he'd been working on it for 2 years. Apparently they had already gotten Ryan Reynolds contracted to star in it.
They made the Piglins the villains of the movie??? They don't even know that Piglins turn into zombie Piglins outside of Nether lmao Minecraft literally has Illagers literal fcking raiders why choose the Piglins😭
Could've easily been solved by having the piglins drink a potion that makes them immune to the efects of the overworld. So it isn't necessarily bad that the piglins invade the overworld.
Piglins aren't even evil you can trade with them and they won't attack you if you wear gold, they're supposed to be like a neutral intelligent race that is wary of the player but not always hostile
The only time when Piglins could do that is Minecraft Dungeons, but even there that was explained: red mushrooms Were there red mushrooms? Nope, I don't see them
@@NamePending878 Wary doesn't sound right when they attack you on sight, not even. keeping distance or fleeing. They only not attack you if you show them that you own enough gold to barter. Otherwise they probably see you as prey. Because the moment you have no showing of your richness, they have no problem to attack you again.
This movie doesn't need to exist at all. Minecraft is a videogame, it only makes sense to exist as a videogame, there is nothing in it that suggests it can work as a movie. Nothing. I hate how people have accepted this concept "oh yeah, popular game means it's going to be adapted into a movie. That's how it is." NO! We now understand that cartoons don't need to be promotion for action figures and instead stand on their own telling great stories; we now understand that movies don't need to have videogame tie-ins released with them. Why can't people understand that videogames don't have to be adapted into movies?? That games are appealing because of their interactivity, so it makes no sense to extrapolate a movie for them, save for specific cases where there's lore or an interesting original story. It'd be the same if we all started to expect musicals to be adapted into comic books. "Oh have you gone to the latest Broadway show? Yeah it's very popular, I can't wait to read the comic book!" You are removing the ONE element that is specific to that medium!
I mean the nether, nether dragon, crafting, houses, villagers…. You could make a real movie, not set in block form and it would be fine. The Jumanji aspect ruins this… just stick to the game, you spawn, have to build before the zombies appear, huge landscapes, giant bases and cave systems… I just think that the people who make the crappy movies don’t ask the fans or creators for help. The movie is possible, but changing the rules and storyline ruins it.
Another detail my friends and I noticed was the crafting table scene, there's actual artifacting happening to the edges of the 3x3 grid that are closer to the camera that are easier to notice at 1/2 speed. It almost looks like the camera focus is pixelating. It's a crazy error that somehow got past and while it's probably just something that will be polished before it's official release, I saw it as "we don't really care if it looks weird, kids are gonna eat this shit up anyways." While those very kids are part of a generation entirely separate from the ones who made minecraft the powerhouse it is, and grew up with the game and all it's updates and dominance in 2014.
Trust me kids won’t be interested in this just mainly autistic ones. The target demographic is smart enough to know this movie will be trash, heck most kids don’t even like jack blscl anymore because of his politics. Bro YES. Stuff like FNaF or the Mario movie can at least say they were love letters, & the Lego Movie, Sonic and Detective Pikachu truly understood what made them beloved to begin with. Wth is this??
It absolutely still has a large child audience. Also, even if that were true, how do they appeal to a teen/adult audience? Make it more mature? It should’ve been fully 3D animated.
@@spaghetto9836 idk about FFnaF but Lego and Mario have been around for several decades that the 40-50 year olds who made them were kids who grew up on those properties. This is why the Mario movie in the early 90s, despite its cult quality charms, did not have a genuine "for the fans by the fans" appeal to them because the adults who made them did not grew up on Mario video games. I honestly think if Zoomers want properties they grew up be treated better in a movie adaptation, the only way is people from your generation actually take on the task of adapting these. A full animated approach would have possibly made a world of difference. Surely the movie makers could have tried something more innovative given the popular and immersive character of Minecraft.
Making a non-animated Minecraft movie is such a missed opportunity. There's an entire list of things they could have taken from the Mario movie on how to make a good videogame movie adaptation, but only took Jack Black and called it a day
I always imagined that Minecraft irl would be super terrifying and grim solo survivalist movie. Steve, alone, in the wilds is forced to survive day in, day out. At night undead and monstrous spiders, exploding centaurs, purple slendermen come out to roam lands every land. If Minecraft were to be adpted into the live action, I'd expect a movie like "I am Legend"
that actually makes sense. a more dramatic take on the franchise is definitely something i want to see (as long it has nothing to do with dream or any of his guys)
I would love it if Steve was this PTSD-ridden paranoid schizophrenic who has been stuck in Minecraft too long and is constantly worried about Herobrine stealing his stuff

it would be far from perfect but it would still be a lot better than what Warner Bros came up with for the official movie like the mario movie. It's a bad movie but it's still a good adaptation of the first game
Why couldn't they just follow something similar to the manga where everyone and all of the monsters are Humans and humanoid and the world isn't square. They could've made a Minecraft movie where they get all of the actors but just keep the Minecraft lore and give it a similar soundtrack and keep the designs similar but something that could transfer into real life well. Godamn they can't just do the bare minimum.

You would think it would be jaw dropping to make everyone happy, but to me now it’s a spit in the face, I’ve played Minecraft for over 10 years myself but I’m pretty disappointed. They could have done a lot better, mainly in the main story department.
First bowser, then claptrap, and now steve. If you told me 5 years ago that jack black would be playing video game characters in movies, I'd probably believe you.
So from what I'm getting they remade the new Jumanji movie. There's a lifeless big buff character (Mamoa/The Rock), a funny black character (the lady/Kevin Hart) and Jack Black essentially playing as himself in a videogame esque alternate dimension.
Animation is also way more expensive (although paying famous actors $$$ to just play themselves on a green screen isn't far behind)-- it also requires way less effort to do live action.
I mean it’s basically looking like a cheap, half-baked version of the Mario Movie. We got 40 seconds of footage and I feel like I could draft out 80% of the core plot. Rag tag team stumbles into a portal to a different world. Things are peculiar there, and after some exploring and making new acquaintances, they bump into a leading character from that universe (“Steve”)! He’s probably framed as a protector in this and the village we see will probably become a core point at the end. After some minor world building and character development, the gang finds a spooooooky portal. What they find inside is an evil army that chases them back (probably not immediately though, so we can have some SICK crafting table and army building montages) for a grand finale fight sequence. They are either going to wake up some boss monster piglin, or they’re doing to overhear some scary plotting that causes all of this to come to a head. The movie will end with the villagers being saved from this army of gross CGI, the gang destroying the spooky nether portal, and either Steve dies, goes back with the gang, or convinces a few people to stay. TLDR: they should start hiring crackheads or at least some random people for the writing department. Throw some curveballs into the plot. Mix it up a little! Jfc.
The difference between this and the Mario movie is that the Mario movie is actually good. It was made by a team of die hard Nintendo fans. I bet half of these people started working on it not even knowing what Minecraft was outside of some pixel game with toys they always see at Target.
They said "It's ment for kids", then why is the 1ST piece of dialogue from the MAIN characters in the teaser is "What the HELL?!"??? In a MINECRAFT movie!
The low effort put into liveaction and animation synergy and abortive attempts at actor characterization do cast a worrying shadow over the final outcome.

They released a concept trailer, and it played into the isolation and dreariness of playing Minecraft solo. There wasn't even a Minecraft wiki back then, so you really didn't know what was around the corner. Mojang forced the team to shut it down because they had a Minecraft movie in the works.
_This_ is what they shut down that fan movie for.

what makes it even more saddening is that instead of having a more unique narrative, like exploring the "lore" or something like that, they decided to make a jumanji/isekai style movie, AGAIN. why do they keep doing the same "humans end up in a franchise/game world and they need to escape" narrative? it's so boring and repetitive. and it's not even a random game, it's MINECRAFT, which is all about creativity, this teaser shows no creativity at all
I would've loved a group of friends playing Minecraft and then discovering a huge mystery like the deep dark, the origin of the nether or anything like that. The Piglins invading the overworld is a story been told over and over again. I am a bit tired of them being the villain when there's so much lore to explore in this game. i cant get past the simple fact that they showed them crafting an item in the trailer THAT ISNT A REAL ITEM IN MINECRAFT LIKE ARE YOU KIDDING ME
They’ve been doing that since Dungeons.

Figures.

Now with that being said, this movie looks like it’s awful. But that’s not because it appeals to young children. It’s because it looks awful and fails to even appeal to those kids.
But the oldest of your lot are like 26/27 so it's going to be a while before y'all have any film directors come out of your gen. Elder Millennials had their breakout in the late 00s and 2010s and now the younger millennial filmmakers (1991-1996) have also been getting the splotlight since late 2010s & current 2020s.
@@henrycase3788 True. I'm certain that's partly why the Spiderverse films were so great- you could tell by the humour & how the team connected with the Spidey fandom (UA-cam apology parodies, "We're getting tired of Multiverses" talk, them wanting to make Miguel O'Hara thiccer than he already was for simps, dialogue for the teens being realistic) that there are likely older Gen Z'ers there. Makes me proud & inspired.
@@spaghetto9836 fnaf definitely was NOT a love letter
Instead of the role, they should've given Jack Black a barber.

There was like a Minecraft book series that's like that which they could have adapted
With all of the Monsters in Minecraft I can’t imagine anything but a survival horror movie
I would love it if Steve was this PTSD-ridden paranoid schizophrenic who has been stuck in Minecraft too long and is constantly worried about Herobrine stealing his stuff
Beautiful plot idea
so robin williams in jumanji?
Uhh he’s surviving a zombie apocalypse and skeletons can rise and some weird pig that’s green and exposed-creeper and a tall black creature the sometimes makes things by placing blocks like him but also being attacked in hell by zombie pigmen and the other pigs 🐷

Why did they make it an isekai? It would’ve been so much better if we were just following Steve’s journey to fight the ender dragon
THERE WAS A PLOT *RIGHT THERE* !
Nah forget the dragon, they should’ve played on the creepy lore stuff like the lord of disc 11.
it would be far from perfect but it would still be a lot better than what Warner Bros came up with for the official movie like the mario movie.
@CerealExperimentsMizuki either that or make it an animated movie. Such wasted potential.
A Minecraft story mode like movie would’ve been so much better. That game had such a good story

10 years in the making? the one thing they got down is how hard the devs/animators work
WHY CANT THEY MAKE A FULLY ANIMATED MOVIE BRO😭😭😭😭😭
this movie just looks like a cash-grab
With Minecraft being the most popular and sold game in the entire world with over 300 million sales! You would think it would be jaw dropping to make everyone happy, but to me now it’s a spit in the face, I’ve played Minecraft for over 10 years myself but I’m pretty disappointed. They could have done a lot better, mainly in the main story department.

So glad it was fully animated
I never thought that tho was it a huge rumour to be live action or just a joke because of the pive action movie
This is hopeless tough
they had such a good opportunity to call it "Minecraft: Movie Edition"
So from what I'm getting they remade the new Jumanji movie. There's a lifeless big buff character (Mamoa/The Rock), a funny black character (the lady/Kevin Hart) and Jack Black essentially playing as himself in a videogame esque alternate dimension.
This is definitely original..mhm. Maybe it will be a banger storywise, who knows.

Animation is also way more expensive (although paying famous actors $$$ to just play themselves on a green screen isn't far behind)-- it also requires way less effort to do live action.
@@SuperPegMeglive action is actually more expensive because of the sets and production crew.
@thegiftedfire3470 what sets? It's all green screen now
I mean it’s basically looking like a cheap, half-baked version of the Mario Movie.
Jfc.
Its not mario, it feels more like Jumanji but Minecraft version
The difference between this and the Mario movie is that the Mario movie is actually good. It was made by a team of die hard Nintendo fans. I bet half of these people started working on it not even knowing what Minecraft was outside of some pixel game with toys they always see at Target.
Despicable 4 trailer is just whole bascially we watched
Screenshotted this comment I'll be back when the movie comes out and it's exactly this
This movie reminds me of that Jumanji movie lol
They said "It's ment for kids", then why is the 1ST piece of dialogue from the MAIN characters in the teaser is "What the HELL?!"???
In a MINECRAFT movie!
The low effort put into liveaction and animation synergy and abortive attempts at actor characterization do cast a worrying shadow over the final outcome.
I’m holding out for the idea that this is just a prank and the real trailer will be released soon
