0:52 that guy’s poker face is just making me laugh so hard
He doesn’t even flinch the slightest bit. He’s a hardened man.
Dang
tis but a scratch
*shrapnel explodes on him*
oh no, anyway-
God knows how many brits filled that helmet with stew or soup.
I mean just look at it, this is just a reinforced dinner plate!
I WOULD DO IT
I would do that and it’s Funny just imagining it
You'd be eating lice
What is the difference between stew and soup
The us helmet in ww2 was the best for soup
In my mind this is one ofthe most iconic helmets in war history
Matt Wells I agree this helmet is present a lot in little things like movies as well. The helmets are like a symbol of WWI in my opinion (I do live in Britain which may explain it)
Matt Wells if I think of war helmets I think of the German m15 or later models
Kili Studios crazy thing is (for me at least) I never knew the helmet was in ww1 until just a couple years ago :P I always thought it was just the pickelhelm (may have misspelled it)
Matt Wells pickelhelm or pickelhaube is right
I thought the iconic helmets are the m1 and stahlem
Brodie: I just “invented” a new military helmet
13th century infantry: Hey! That thief stole my helmet!
Brodie: Run. I’m not going to jail!
The Germans basically copied the 15th cen sallet, as I recall.
1:53 General said it was my turn on the Brodie Helmet
It's shallow design was pretty good for trench warfare. Most of the shrapnel, and debris flying around was above the soldier, and coming down. The rim helped protect the shoulders. When lying prone, and looking or firing forwards, the head is tilted up, this design won't dig into the back of the neck.
A video about the Chinese army during WWII would be great. Many people, myself included, don't know an awful lot about china's role during the war.
The script for this is recorded!
Nice, cant wait!
why not one about their role in WWI?
They used German helmets.
@@Admiral45-10 for a certain division
0:51 I heard that Battlefield 1 sound effect :P
welcome to one of the best educational youtube channels ever, keep it up simple history!
I own a original Brodie helmet from ww2, and it is surprisingly in good condition
Do something about the Pickelhaube.
And make a victorian era book.
And with victorian I mean wars like the Crimean war and Franco Prussian war
2:03 Except most Aussies still wore that slouch hat ;)
I was amazed to find out how many originals are left over on ebay and such. I've heard many stories of them being collected up and melted down for their metal after the war when we still had to ration.
I had one of those as a child. It had some rust damage on the rear rim but was otherwise pretty fit to serve. Mine was matt OD with crushed walnut.
I love that you guys explain things in good detail in a few minutes

I've recently been wondering. If the Brodie was considered obsolete by WW2, why couldn't they have manufactured more of the more modern-looking paratrooper helmets?
I love the look of these. Great video!

+About 30 Ninjas glad it can help!
I love this Channel
I would like to see these videos play as a *series.*
I'll pick today's video as an example. It starts out talking about the development of the British Brodie Helmet, but finishes by touching on how it was adopted by U.S. soldiers. I feel this can be continued into a follow-up video about the U.S. helmet development, with a compare/contrast to the helmets of other combatants, both Entente and Central powers.
nice I love the animation in the ending
My great grandfather fought in ww1 in the canadian army. He told to my grandfather that when he received the new brodie helmet he tought it was a plate to eat but he rapidly realised that it was a helmet. He said it was ugly and uncomfortable but he always said "ça fesait la job" which can be translate by "it was getting the job done". He had a happy life and died in the 1990s at almost 100 years old. What a great man.
Simple history is amazing keep doing what you doing

How about a video on the Mk III "Turtle" Helmet? This helmet was first used in combat by British and Canadian landing forces on D-Day and then would be used throughout the rest of WW2 and well into the Cold War
The Brodie pattern was used in the Canadian Army up until the late 1960’s. I remember my dad wearing it when he was in the Militia. It was replaced by the American styled steel helmet of the WW2-Korea-Vietnam era which is the one I wore. I heard the old timers talk affectionately about their old Brodies and how much heavier the “new” ones were.
The real question is what kind of militia 👀😱
@@sadjosh3545 in Canada, what we call the Militia is our Army Reserve. They are in fact members of the Armed Forces of Canada. I assume that you’re probably from the United States where the Militia means something totally different, such as armed citizens formed into voluntary groups that are not part of the Regular or Reserve Army.
I love your channel, could you do more of the ww2 weapon videos?

With the rear edge sharpened, the pan helmet was a deterrent to assault from behind.
