  • I’m going to show you how to mix flake. (In my opinion the only way to mix flake) I’m using @PAINTHUFFERMF fifty/fifty mixed in @Matrix Automotive Finishes intercoat. You can use any intercoat that you prefer. This is just what I use. Here’s my step by step process to mix metal flake. If you have any questions feel free to comment. I will answer the best I can. This is the start to a tech tip series that I’ll be doing. If there are any topics you want covered leave a comment and I’ll work on making a video for this common question.

I look for .025 mil flake, which i think dances well with .015 mil. The biggest bling other than 1/8 crushed glass.

You seam to know what your talking about in your videos and really understand how it all works. So I have a question and maybe you can answer it. Never seen this done and maybe it's a reason why, destroyer Gray with Orange flakes. Can it be done or would it look dumb and not show up?

what size flake will be small enough to be used as metallic rather than metal flake?

I do not use base coat intercoat binder for mixing flake i use U-Pol 2882 with medium activator tge flake has time to lay down and settle usually three Light coats will give me the desired amount of flake on my base then three light coats of clear over the flake.
But thats just my way. The disposable lids and liners are the way to go for easy clean up.
    Happy painting.

I would never use clear for a flake carrier. And I especially would never use upol clear for that. There is products made to do this. I have seen too many paint failures happen because of flake in the clear.

@@Swampyssidehustlehobbyshop that’s great. Keep doing what works for you. I personally would never suggest to spray flake that way. Do what works for you.

@@joebluntdesigns and i would never suggest using intercoat clearcoat binder for flake.
Nothing is written in stone when it comes to custom paint.

Does the Fifty Fifty have a rainbow affect? The flake I purchased recently does and it really disappointed me. I just want a nice silver flake.

Could I add metallic flake to primer sealer ?

No you shouldn’t add it to your primer sealer

except 200 g to 200 g isn’t one to one because of different densities. It’s fairly close though.

200g to 200g is 1:1 by weight. If you’re going to mix by volume that’s a different story.
