Having spend the first 20 years of my life growing up in Idaho, I knew that the Owyhee country was special because of its stark craggy beauty, but your capture of the scenery throughout the video was spectacular. Thank you for another wonderful flying buddy camping trip; I really enjoy these particular episodes... ...and Alaska would be EPIC!!!
Did you you know that the name Owyhee is an old name for Hawaii? So how did a mountain range in SW Idaho come to be named for some Pacific islands?! There is a rather involved back story here. Briefly, in the mid-1800's a group of men from Hawaii got snookered into coming to Idaho for work, if I remember. They got homesick and decided to walk to California and go home. They left camp and were never seen again.
Kanakas came from Hawaii to work the gold fields of California in 1849. Many kept going to Montana and Idaho as the strikes happened. I lived for years on Kanaka Rapids of the Middle Snake.
@@TrentonPalmer lol… I know I am… but always knew I’d be a pilot. While flying it hits me occasionally, but most of my commercial flying has been helicopters, doing ranch work and offshore oil and gas. The fixed wing stuff was also ranch related, so always at treetops or otherwise quite low, flying fences or moving cows, flying by ground reference, yet ALWAYS know what the wind is doing. I think flying high with turbulence is all that really bothers me. Probably because I am out of what I usually use for reference. Standing at the edge of a cliff or building…. Testicles move up into my neck!!!!
The Owyhee is a magical place. I'm a PNW (Oregon) native and an avid self-supported rafter and we've run the Owyhee river several times. Rome is a DESOLATE place as is the Alvord and Lost Forrest. beautiful to see it from the air in your videos. if you ever want a real adventure get someone trustworthy to take you on a float trip down the whole Owyhee (or the Middle Salmon). Rafting, much like bush planes, is one of the only ways short of hiking in to see many of the most amazing places in the PNW.
Man! This was a Trent Palmer classic epic adventure! Sooo good to see an all flying and camping get together with Trent and friends. It was so nice to wake up this morning and grab a hot cup of coffee and head out to our sun room to take off and fly with you Trent. There is just something so special about your calm demeanor that makes me relax and puts me in your passenger seat for a grand adventure. Thank you so much for your excellent video. The view, music and your commentary are better than any fiction movie one could pay to go and see. I just love what you do. Keep up the good work! I’ll raise a cup to clear skies and calm winds and happy flying! Somehow these adventures motivate me to get rolling with our RV to experience our own adventure. Time to get out of Texas and leave behind the blistering heat and head for the mountains.
Hey, nice grass on the home strip 👍. Fabulous adventure flying video. 🙏 Trent. And GREAT in air photography. What spectacular shots, absolutely loved it.
Wow! Such vicarious fun and in one of my two favorite parts of Oregon, the other being the Wallowas. I have flown around the Owyhee's in an Ercoupe, but never back country landed, though, I have overland back country explored west to east and nearly destroyed a pair of hiking boots in just a week-plus 3-days. Too much camera equipment, not enough food. The Owyhees were created by the same moving hot spot that created the Yellowstone complex. It is a great rock hounding area. Thanks for the visual pucker factor adventure.
Hey Trent, thanks so much for the video. I'm in a really rough spot currently, still trying to figure out how to make it out and really just needed some peace and calm for a moment and you uploading a 36 minute video was just a heaven sent.
23:35: I have spent more time thinking about this than I like to admit. I think the blades are rotated. The two white stripes on the tip of the blade should be on the front. Note how the upper blade has the black side facing in. The lower blade closes to you has two white stripes facing outwards. It has probably been rotated 180 degrees. Sooo yeah... For whoever might care.
Great job showing and telling, like where’s y’all was going. And the site’s that y’all were at nice sites. Well I joyed the video flying with y’all it was fun watching y’all. Have a great one see y’all next time see y’all hopefully soon bye.
Great video! Looks like a lot of fun. I recently got back into flight simulators, after almost 20 years, with MSFS, and just bought the FreedomFox about a week ago. What a fun plane! There's a definite learning curve for backcountry landings, but I'm loving the challenge. Keep having fun and thanks for letting us watch!
In the early 80s I flew into Rome state with my instructor. We were under the scud trying to beat a snow storm in may to Winnemucca Nevada and the wings started to ice up, so we had no choice but to land at Rome state. There was nothing there at the time but a VOR station so we ended up spending the night in a snow storm freezing our butts off at that airstrip. About 6am we spotted these wild mustangs walking by us and we were waiting till it got warm enough to get the snow off the wings of my Cherokee, finally got out about 10AM, gassed up in yerington Nevada, then home to kcma.
Wow, the life you are living is simply amazing. As a former active private pilot with an old Cessna 150 (just got too expensive for me while raising 4 kids), it is fun to live vicariously through your videos. I remember many, many years ago watching the Kitfox VHS videos I got while visiting their display at Oshkosh. Never built one, so this is GREAT to watch.
Always love these videos Trent! Unfortunately my pilot dreams have been dashed due to bone marrow cancer, the anemia it causes keeps me from chasing my license... so watching these videos lets me live vicariously through them..... keep them coming.
Very refreshing to see you guys out having an adventure. Here in UT it has been cold and wet. Looks like you guys were back just before the storm which has been many days here. Clear skies.
I love your scenic flying videos! I've always enjoyed watching little airplanes that rock and bounce through the air gently, seeming carefree. Though I understand that from a pilot's perspective, not every moment is carefree. 🙂
Looks like SO much fun! Really makes me wish I had a bush plane, and friends with bush planes. Best I could do is meet up at Nampa or some similar paved strip.
I have actually done that airplane cliff dive off that. Been to all those amazing places in a buddies supper cub years ago. Thanks for bringing back the memories. Go check out the Steens and the Alvord.
Love seeing the sights that you explore! I would like to see a video of how you prepare for these backcountry camping trips; like what aviation or camping equipment that has made your trips better.
I’ve just discovered this channel and… is just amazing. Every single frame is gorgeous. I’m 20 years old and I hope someday I could do something similar.
Excellent 👏 …. really happy to see great ADM being practiced 👍👍 The ‘wave off ‘ and decision to eliminate the pressure on others to stretch their personal minimums were spot on 😉 Great stuff, thanks for sharing. Ps - love seeing John out there with you guys at one point 😊
Jealousy is a sin my brother. The Bible States“For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.” repent your sins.
Hey Trent! Any chance you could include google-earth placemarks for the places you land for us bush pilots who don't get to fly with you? That would be so awesome. Or maybe just create a file that contains all the places you've ever landed. Something to do when it is raining or too windy to fly. Hahaha.
Following along on Foreflight and trying to see how the Bonanza S35 would do. Could land at the reservoir and Rome for sure. But would have to cruise at 1200 rpm to hang with the Kitfox/super cubs.
Trent, you should look at the bearings or how tight your axel nut is on your right wheel. It stops rotation the second your wheel leaves the ground, my guess is you're not tapping your brakes that quick, just that thought for you. Great video.
I met John this year at AirVenture, He was giving a symposium on the history of KitFox Aircraft. Afterwards, I peaked my head in his plane and saw the smoke oil system. It was clear he was a cool dude after that.
Ty seems like the coolest dude. He’s always laughing and smiling. Nice to see. Yeah you’re kinda cool to Trent and the rest of the guys.
Be interested to hear about his prop improvements.
He's my favorite! Always good seeing him in the videos
Yeah he's seems like a funny guy. Does some crazy stuff in his plane.
The guy almost killed him.

I always wondered about that, I live in Bannock County high country.
They came to trap beaver. There's a historical marker at the top of the Marsing grade that explains it.
