Only because it’s never really been seen before. In reality, altitude isn’t really an issue for turboprops. The only reason they haven’t gone that high before is because there was never really a need for it as turboprops usually serve a special purpose. Additionally, creating turboprops that are efficient at that altitude takes a little more engineering and quality and that just adds cost. The real issue with Turboprops is speed. Cruising at FL410 isn’t really doing you much if your max airspeed is 260 knots.

The Piaggio's unique "wail" is unmistakable as a charter service flies over my house every day. I can hear the newer EVO coming from miles away & its sound is distinctive with the twin turboprops in pusher configuration. What a phenomenal performer on 100 gallons total or less of jet A per hour giving near 400 knots. The only twin engine VLJ that compares with fuel burn is the Eclipse 500/550 albeit its slower top end & much smaller capacity at 5 place vs the Piaggio's 8 -10. Getting a ride in a Piaggio is on my bucket list before I lose more sight when it won't matter.
I saw a Piaggio fly into my Western PA local small airport. My fiancé and I ran out of the house with no socks on, hopped in the car to see it take off. The sound of these aircraft is wild!

Started flying single pilot part 91 in the P-180 in early 2002. Back then a small crowd would always gather upon shutdown. I believe we were the 36th registered Piaggio in the US. Flew it until 2015, and what I miss most, in order were. . . how quiet the cockpit was (perhaps the quietest in the industry with the super-sloped windscreen, and the slight prop “buzz” way far aft), and how fun the takeoffs and landings felt. Factoid. . . the main wing has the same square foot wing area as a Cessna 172, go figure! Thanks for the great video!
That flight level for a turbo prop is insane. Not a pilot here just like to watch the videos and see what pilots do and what the planes are capable of!
I have always been a little conflicted with padding hours to get your commercial as soon as you can. The industry is taking full advantage of that now as short as airlines are for qualified commercial pilots. It was good to hear how much your number two is learning along the way. That's how you do it and good luck to you.
Always great to see you in the Piaggio, she’s a rocket ship all the way up to FL410! Great video Owen, nice to see Chris too and hearing about his journey. Thanks for taking me along.
Great video and advice! It's encouraging to me to see someone so young go so far. Often we fail in life just from lack of trying. Keep up the great work!
14:00 - Great info you recounted about life/work experience. Key takeaway I heard is to fully commit towards whichever role you happen to be in - servicing lavs; pilot; whatever. The thru-line of all of it comes back to your character/integrity (which is what they hired).
17:05. I don't know whether FL410 for a turboprop is "unreal", but some wartime Spitfires (notably the MkVII) could fly at 42,000 feet, with a pressurised cabin. Performance chart indicated at 44,000 feet, max speed is 376mph, 22.2 mins to height and still climbing at 300ft/min. (the highest altitude achieved by a Griffon-powered Supermarine Spitfire Mk XIX was 51,550 feet (15,710 meters) on a high altitude test flight).
Seriously, you're comparing a max weight of 7,900 lb Spitfire Mk VII with one pilot to a Piaggio with a max weight of 12,100 lbs and up to 2 pilots and 6 passengers. Wow, talk about night and day difference.
I'm on the 767-300 and 43,100 is the max altitude but we never go that high. We like to stay 1500' below the FMS' stated max altitude for the current conditions. Like many jets, FL340 -390 is the sweet spot.

I keep hearing one around Latrobe. Very distinctive sound.
I have two to three daily noisy flights at 3 000ft rocketing above my house, she just pissed me off 😤 Beautiful aircraft in the air though 😉
@@p.c.9714 wait until someone flies past with an AN-12... 4 engine, Russian (actually Ukrainian nowadays) design from a time when noise pollution was not a thing.
Happened to me: heard a rather noisy airplane. Started looking around what makes that noise... didn't see anything. Went on FR24 to find out that an AN-12 had just flown past... at FL240... redefines noisy. Well, not really. Long ago, I had the opportunity to watch a flyby of Concorde. ;-)
@@realulli Another crazy experience is to have a B-1 fly low overhead. The scale does not make sense. The shape is fighter-like, but it's almost as long as a B-52. The sound of four GE F101's in afterburner is nuts.
@@realulli Actually Stalin successor Khrushchev (ukraine nationality) ordered Antonov company to move from Russia to Ukraine , also gave Krimea to the Ukraine back in 1954 or something
Thanks Owen. So happy for you and your brother. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy your videos. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us. Wish I still lived in Santa Clara…I would buy you a beer to say thanks for the content. If you’re ever in the Denver area the offer stands. 😜
Thank you for watching!
Great content Owen. Love how you interview other pilots you're flying with and provide teaching moments in IFR approaches, etc. Thanks for posting!
Butter landing. Great job flying the piaggio.
Thanks!
Love this plane, your content and choice of music. Safe flying Owen.
That flight level for a turbo prop is insane. Not a pilot here just like to watch the videos and see what pilots do and what the planes are capable of!
that's awesome, thank you for the experience. Happy new year from Morocco.
Controllers voice and speech pattern at Jackson Hole sounds like AWOS 😂
That's a mighty interesting, unusual aircraft.
Enjoyed the flight, young man.
Thanks for sharing...
Absolutely one of my “ money is no object” dream aircraft.
*Hey Owen, looking forward to following your Vegas flight later today. Wish you bon voyage and safe arrival. Cheers!*
I have always been a little conflicted with padding hours to get your commercial as soon as you can. The industry is taking full advantage of that now as short as airlines are for qualified commercial pilots.
It was good to hear how much your number two is learning along the way. That's how you do it and good luck to you.
You’re kill’n it, Chris! Great job and excellent attitude going after the work.
Always great to see you in the Piaggio, she’s a rocket ship all the way up to FL410! Great video Owen, nice to see Chris too and hearing about his journey. Thanks for taking me along.
One of the most beautiful airplanes around! Ferrari of the sky!
Great video and advice! It's encouraging to me to see someone so young go so far. Often we fail in life just from lack of trying. Keep up the great work!
Love it.Thank you for taking us with you
Y'all are a dynamic team! Really enjoy your content!
Thank you!
That’s so awesome! Been to Jackson once and it’s literally the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen!
14:00 - Great info you recounted about life/work experience. Key takeaway I heard is to fully commit towards whichever role you happen to be in - servicing lavs; pilot; whatever. The thru-line of all of it comes back to your character/integrity (which is what they hired).
Thx Owen and Chris...Great Piaggo performance.
Absolutely love the Piaggio content! Please keep it coming!!
Cool to see Chris again and learn all the things he has accomplished in this short amount of time! Way to go Chris! 😊
I always enjoy the time you share with us in this awesome Piaggio, Owen.
I love watching guys who do detailed PreFlight briefings. I always pick up a new tip
such a beautiful aircraft. there used to be one in southeastern MA but i havent seen it in years
CitationMax is the best and most thorough young pilot i have ever seen.
Outstanding video, I liked how you explained the maps and the meaning behind the symbols, and impressed on the 41K' on a turbo prop
I like the split screen config. Thanks Owen.
The two of you make a great team. Killer flight! Thanks for the ride.
Thank you for watching!
What great smart brothers - fly boys!
Thanks!
Now that is an aircraft. The Piaggio is a pile of junk in comparison
Seriously, you're comparing a max weight of 7,900 lb Spitfire Mk VII with one pilot to a Piaggio with a max weight of 12,100 lbs and up to 2 pilots and 6 passengers. Wow, talk about night and day difference.
This was the coolest aviation video I’ve seen yet. Really fun! Subscribed
Congratulations Chris, that’s a huge achievement.
Piaggio content, im there. Amazing plane.
Thanks Owen 👍 love your content, mate.
Watching your content from down under South Australia.
hey Owen, it was wonderful to join you on that flight….i loved it….thanks for sharing it
A truely beautiful aircraft.
Thanks for sharing. Keep making videos of your experiences! Very cool plane!
Simply awesome, looking forward to the Over Water experience.
amazing airplane, provides a very quiet ride from my vantage point. look forward to your future adventures.
Awesome flight and cool to get Chris' updates!
Insane service ceiling on that aircraft. That's about the top for most airliners as well!
I'm on the 767-300 and 43,100 is the max altitude but we never go that high. We like to stay 1500' below the FMS' stated max altitude for the current conditions. Like many jets, FL340 -390 is the sweet spot.
New favorite UA-camr. Not even a question
Huge fan and love the piaggio. Greetings from germany
Thanks!
Love that plane. Thanks Owen
Thank you!
To be 22 and have all that experience allready is amazing! Wonderful story and amazing flight!
Thanks for watching!
Wow! The most beautiful aircraft in the best place on earth JAC. Can’t get any better than that! Lucky !👍🏽
Had no clue that was your brother until I read another comment. Very impressive what you both have accomplished so far!
Enjoy watching you fly! Especially in the Piaggio.. it's such a cool aircraft.

Outstanding Owen, great video pal.
Your videos are great. Really good production value. Your just too smooth! Keep it up.

Thanks for having Chris on that was inspiring
Love your channel Owen! If I was only 20 years younger. Doing the CFI part time gig but would love to fly turbine. That Piaggio is SWEET!!!
Congrats on your success Chris!
Really enjoyed coming along for this flight. Great editing again! Cheers.

man that was so good to hear when the flight controller ask you about some footages amazing 🤩
Great video as usual! Piaggio should pay you for the big boost you give their P180! Greetings from Italy🇮🇹
Just stumbled across you channel and I am hooked.
I just subscribed and can't wait to watch more of you videos.
And congrats to Chris on his success at such a young age.,
Incredible airplane, the spiritual sucessor of the Starship.
