A friend of mine from our local LOTR gang did not want to play it but already agreed to write an article for “My home gaming computer” magazine (a long vanished magazine every schoolboy with a PC was reading in 2000s in Ukraine). So I told him the game is badly programmed (confirming that with stupid screenshots like Gollum full of arrows who looked like a hedgehog), but actually has some nice vibe that a Tolkien fan can enjoy; he generated some text and it was published…

I think the studio should get credit for imagining this world, in the own vision without being jaded by movie adaptions. It is a book adaption. This is not particularly easy, whereas although EA made definitely better action games, they're copy and pasted digital textures style and music repurposed from 7-8 years of work done by other people(usually the best at their craft like Howard Shore) this was the first attempt at a story adventure game that nobody had tried before, with the addition of the extensive lore of LOTR it was always gonna be different.
I give alot of credit for this game, even if the mechanics are under developed.
includes Nazgul chase, Barrow Wights, Old Man Willow and Tom Bombadil. It is a fairly faithful adaption. Most people look down on this solely because it's not Peter Jackson's.
It's still better than Rings of Power By Amazon.

The movies haven't really been the inspiration for the games since the mid 2000s, so a game based on the books wouldn't be out of place. Listen, this game is no Two Towers or Return of the King, but as a kid, this game was my favorite in that it let you explore the Shire, Bree, Moria and you got to play as Frodo and Gandalf. As a kid I liked the music, I like the ability to control the camera, and it was the first of these games that let you play as Gandalf.
It’s easy to look back and be like Return of the King is so much better, but when this game came out and it was this and the Two Towers, this game had some charm to it. It’s not like we knew games like Return of the King or Shadow of War would ever come out. To call it the awful game that nobody played is unfair to the time it came out in. This was the style of games back then, and for what it was back then, it wasn’t terrible.
