      +slappy2013 Well it happens in the book. It's long and complicated to explain. To be short, Doran and Oberyn have been scheming against the Lannisters ever since the end of Robert's Rebellion. The books definitely suggest that there was a larger plan at work, but Oberyn was always a bit of a hothead. He was confident he could win but he wasn't in it to win, do you get me? He knew there was a very good chance he was going to die, this is why he laced his spear with poison. I would tell you that Doran is just as cool but season 5 and so far the first episode of season 6 have shat all over the Dornish storyline. GoT has gone downhill with the Dorne storyline. It is now a blemish on a once fantastic show.

      Theories of him being alive exist. I hope he's alive, and I hope he's going to play an important role. In the first book Bran had this strange dream about three mysterious characters. One of them is obviously The Hound, another most likely The Mountain, the third one is uncertain. They must be of some importance, since the dream was already foreshadowing something that was going to happen in book 5. I think he still has a role to play, just as The Mountain still has a role to play.

    Just finished season 4. Haven't seen season 5 or 6 yet. This season has got to be my favorite so far. The character deaths, the grand scale, the epic battles, the development of the characters. There is never one storyline per season on this show, there are always half a dozen. And every single one this season has been awesome: the trial of Tyrion, the battle at castle black, Daenarys taking Meereen, Arya and the Hound travelling across Westeros. All great stuff. I doubt season 5 nor 6 could top this, as I've heard season 5 is the weakest, yet I've also heard season 6 is amazing, so we'll have to see. I'm so in love with this show right now.

      Season 4 was my favourite overall. 5 is weaker because it's mostly build-up but has arguably the best episode in the series, and 6 gets better and better with each episode leading up to a sensational final two episodes. You still got a lot to look forward to.

      Problem with Danny wasn't her or her story. It was GRRM giving in to fan service. Her parts read like GRRM is explicitly saying "There's absolutely nothing here at this time, but I know people will lose their shit if her perspective chapters reflect that fact sooo...." Her story arc was actually quite interesting, but it should have been maybe 2 chapters max, if that. Let us see more of Barristan Selmy's POV that guy is much more interesting than other characters give him credit for lol

      They really fucked up Oberyn's specialty in this episode. The Mountain is supposed to be dead due to the poison. They showed something that was never even elaborated on in the books, basically making that Maester (Dr. Frankenstein) create a monster. LAME!

  • @Evilnor7
    @Evilnor7 10 років тому +4

    As a reader of the books, my favorite part in this last episode was the fight between Brienne and the Hound. It's one of those things that the showrunners have been doing where they switch events from the books up just enough so that something interesting or downright awesome happens. This fight didn't happen in the book, but it *makes sense* that it would have happened! There's something brutally poetic about how they start off like knights, using swords and everything, but then they remember that neither of them are actually knights, so the swords are forgotten to the point where they're just beating the shit out of each other with rocks. I love it almost as much as I love Sandor's conversation (or near-monologue) with Arya afterwards.
    Tyrion vs. Tywin was downright awesome, too. It happened much more calmly and coolly than I imagined it would, and I expected Tyrion to mention Tysha, as well. As it was, I definitely got the impression that Tywin only ever called Tyrion "son" in order to manipulate him, which I'd never really considered before. Irony of ironies, though, I think Tyrion was the most like his father of any of Tywin's children, the most deserving of being called his son, and Daddy dearest totally deserved what happened.
    Another note on the Lannisters: the name certainly won't die out anytime soon. Tywin's brother Kevan (who's in the show several times and mentioned in other moments) is still around. There's also all Kevan's kids and plenty of other Lannister cousins such as Lancel, Cersei's season 2 sex toy. Tywin was always more concerned about his personal line, though, so I suppose that's what matters.

      Minor Spoilers (ish)
      Varys has got a long term plan and Tyrion is a part of it. I can see the confusion but Tywin was not in on it. I've read the books and there is no indication that the two were working together. Tywin may have wanted Tyrion to go to the Wall, but Varys has a totally different plan.

    • @Zoltan1251
      @Zoltan1251 10 років тому

      Turner Evans it was confusing... i think they did it on purpose.... there is no indication but there is no doubt Varys fear he would be blamed for releasing Tyrion and killing Tywin.... so even if he wasnt playing with Tywin he knew releasing Tyrion wouldnt kill him.......
      they changed so much from the books... so i think next season they disclose Tywin at least knew about the plan, otherwise there was no reason for Varys to run away

    One thing to think about is that Tywin had sex with Shea then went to take a dump.
    Arya getting on the ship to Bravos, I have been waiting for that since Jaqen gave her the coin.
    Breanne and The Hound fight was awesome, and Arya pretty much leaving him to die, that stone cold look on her face when she just stared at him then took his money and walked off.
    Stannis showing up at The Wall was unexpected, when I heard that horn I thought it was White Walkers.

      About that fight scene, what annoyed me is only that bloody camera angles change. Why they think changing camera makes fight more dynamic? It makes it just more easy, you can do fight in many takes. I don't mind camera change when it makes sense, exampe one attack ends and wiev is better from another angle. But this was mess. Tho fight itself was great.

      Sarper Doğan The writing became distracted. Favorite characters who lived, were almost forgotten about. The replacements weren't as interesting. And generally, it was boring. Martin didn't know or care about how to keep his writing focused, nor how to direct the story. He himself admitted he was just interested in writing "atmosphere". Really, he is the greatest bad writer I've ever read.

    • @jimboa20
      @jimboa20 10 років тому +19

      The main problem with Feast for Crows was that Martin experimented with leaving key POV characters out of that book and saving them for Dance with Dragons. Reader backlash was pretty huge, so the first half of Dance with Dragons had all the missing character POV that should have been in FfC, and then the second half was written like a normal book. HBO is going to correct his mistake by combining and consolidating Feast for Crows and Dance with Dragons seamlessly into two seasons.

      The dragons are not anywhere near large enough to conquer Westeros. When Aegon, Rhaenys, and Visenya invaded Westeros on the backs of their dragons, it was extremely difficult for even them to take the Seven Kingdoms. Technically, they didn't/couldn't conquer Dorne. Rhaenys and her dragon Meraxes were killed in battle while trying to conquer Dorne. Now, the seven kingdoms are united and have never been stronger. Daenerys hasn't even trained her dragons yet.

    I found it interesting that they changed up the ending a bit. Jaime didn't tell Tyrion the truth about his childhood girlfriend, and Tyrion didn't tell him about Cersei's scandalous activities out of rage. And in the book Tyrion just leaves Tywin to die after one arrow shot, after Tywin tells him the truth. Also the Hound begging Arya for death. A good deal of changes from the book. Although I think they should've probably stayed true to Jaime's confessional reasons to freeing Tyrion.

    SH aside the biggest problem was the complete lack of tysha, that was one of the main reasons tyrion went to see tywin to confront him about it and to try to force any information on her, it becomes one of the reasons that drives him to do what he will do in the coming seasons, also tyrion should have disclosed to jaime what cersei had been doing with lancel and others, not out of anger maybe,but to have him see who cersei really is and have jaime continue being fooled by the image that cersei gives to him, sure jaime know that cersei can be cruel but he truly believes she loves him and the only other man she ever slept with was robert and purely out of duty,not love

    Meh, at this point a lot of stuff goes downhill, for me anyway. There are some cool things that go on, but there are also a lot of stupid things that really turned me off from the books as of late. I can say that Tyrion's escape was actually made lighter in the show. In the books Jaime tells Tyrion that the woman he married years early, who was apparently a prostitute that Tywin then had killed, wasn't a prostitute, and genuinely loved him. Tyrion takes great offense to this, swears he will kill Jaime and Cersei, and storms off, asking Varys where his father is so he can kill him. I'm guessing they didn't want to cast Tyrion in a negative light. Also the skeletons in the finale were sort of a litmus test, because a lot of high fantasy/magical stuff happens soon that I think will throw a lot of viewers off. It certainly threw me off as a reader. Still, great finale. Loved the extra fifteen minutes.

      I was in the same line of think as you, but that I thought about this from the Showrunner's perspective. The last time Tyrion's wife was mentioned in the show was, like, episode three of season one. I other words, a lifetime ago in TV Land. In books we get constant references to Tysha, especially when Tyrion's imprisoned (if I recall correctly). So, when this pops up in the books it's a big relevant shocker to audience and to Tyrion. Here is where the writers actually made a very conscious, complex, and clever change in order to better suit the way show has been going: they turned Shae into different version of Tysha. In the books, Shae was just a manipulative whore, this fact elucidated to Tyrion during the trial when she betrays him. In the show, Tyrion drove her away to protect her. Sadly, he did his job a bit too well and now she wants a swipe at him because he essentially used her. Imagine, from her PoV: you've been NOTHING but a whore and someone else's property your entire life then comes along this weird, damaged, yet sweet man who takes you into his care and keeps telling you he loves you. Then BAM! He gets someone younger, and prettier and decides he's through with you. You're all used up. You're nothing but a glorified blow up doll the whole. Damn. Time. Yeah, from her perspective, FUCK THIS GUY! So she betrays him. Tragedy here, they both were actually in love the with the person they thought was fake but is actually real. Goddamit! Shakespeare, take some notes! Yeah, I think about this stuff waaay tooo much.

      It probably shouldn't irritate me as much as it does.

    • @aipplepie692
      @aipplepie692 10 років тому

      I think it makes a huge difference as to how the characters are viewed. Like reading the books makes me see her still as a girl but in the show you're constantly reminded that she's a monarch. Like he said, it makes her seem perfect.

    • @FreeHugsAndPeeps
      @FreeHugsAndPeeps 10 років тому +1

      Tenta-notthat-cool I agree that she is clearly a girl in the books and a woman in the show, but I also think the show has portrayed her as anything but perfect. Especially in season 4 they have shown that she can't even keep control of Meereen, so she would never be able to control entire Westeros.
      Edit: It should be noted that I have only read the first three books so far.

      Lannisters are still the richest house in the Seven Kingdoms. Lancel might be out of the picture but Kevan Lannister is almost just as capable as Tywin, just not as ruthless. The Lannisters are in a lot of trouble though.

    I know it's probably the unpopular opinion, but I thought It was a bad season finale. The north stuff seemed rush. Brienne just happens to run into aria and the hound on the countryside? The way the hound and arya said goodbye was unfullfilling. Didn't need to see Bran's friend getting stabbed repeatedly then have a magic grenade chucked at him. Danny putting the good dragons on time-out while the bad dragon is out there was stupid (that was sad kinda for me haha) The whole Tyrion finds a secret pasage into Tywin's room from the jail ... what? Shae being there seemed out of place (maybe I liked her too much). Tywin not hearing anything while taking quite possibly the longest dump in westeros history. Ending with Arya.cashing in the coin and taking a boat ride didn't get me pumped for the next season .... also i guess arya didn't meet Sansa at her dead aunts after all which doesn't make sense. Oh well.

    Best part of Season 4: Tyrian/Tywin, Purple Wedding, Oberyn, big Wall battle, Brienne vs Hound
    Worst part of Season 4: Ygritte's death and pyre. Don't get me wrong, it was done beautifully but absolutely sad beyond words. She was so full of life. The 1 on 1 moment with Jon in which she was shot, along with her last words and lifeless eyes, just a lot of feels. She was such an amazing character acted to perfection. RIP

    The main Lannister line of Casterly Rock is gone essentially with the death of Tywin, the banishment of Tyrion and the oaths of Jaime to the Kingsguard. However there are a few cadet branches with the Lannisters of Lannisport being the largest or at least most well known. The Lannisters of Casterly Rock are blond with curls with emerald green eyes while the Lannisters of Lannisport have emerald green eyes, blond hair but it being straight and not curly. Pretty much the only difference.

  • @REDinitial
    @REDinitial 10 років тому +1

    To be correct, Tywin and his children are not the only Lannisters left, Tywin had brothers and they had children too bearing the Lannister name and together with the Freys I think they are one of the most numerous families; very fertile. I'm honestly very surprised at the things you can grasp and predict without having read the books prior to that. Good job!

    There are tons of Lannisters left - that family does not only consist of Tywin and his 3 children. There are plenty of uncles, cousin and so on, who've also briefly been on the show, or mentioned. They aren't gonna be extinct like at the Rains of Castamere, which was an enormous slaughter - it would be pretty easy to take out the entire House Lannister, if it was just four people :P

    • @matssm123
      @matssm123 10 років тому

      I like the show as well, but they seem to be whitewashing the fan favorites, which takes away from the great characters in the book. An example is when Tyrion is killing Shae out of elf defence rather than straight up killing her.

    • @pjsmith97
      @pjsmith97 10 років тому +6

      Well as someone who is in the beginning chapters of A Dance of Dragons, I don't agree that Dany is perfect in the show. Like Jeremy said, it was getting annoying before when she was getting victory after victory, but this season has really brought her down a notch. She made the mistake of massacring all the slave masters, which the son brought to her attention later. She sent Jorah away more out of emotional heartbreak than an actual rational political decision. And she now has to face responsibility for a three year-old's horrific death by her dragon by sealing even the ones that are not responsible in the catacombs. She's more flawed in the books because you are able to get inside her head and know why she did what she did. The show is limited in that area because you can't read her thoughts. Season 2-3, I agree a hundred percent. But Season 4 is when reality comes knocking down her door.

    • @jonathanedwards4882
      @jonathanedwards4882 10 років тому

      How is she perfect? I've read all the way up to half way through A Feast for Crows and I think the shows done a really good job of showing how she might have taken the city but that's just step one. She's made some questionable decisions, like crucifying the masters and the likes. People keep saying it's boring but maybe people have to look a bit fucking deeper!

    The Lannisters line isn't "gone". Tywin's line may have been the "family", but the Lanisters are huge-ass family; Tywin's younger brother and his son are still around (though we've seen them only briefly), and you can expect to see them a slightly more prominent role in the following seasons.
    For those that didn't read the books, I'd mention something that was dropped (won't go into details), and that is Tywin's deathbed confession to Tyrion, which is actually a major thing for Tyrion. I don't know if they'll reveal that particular secret later (maybe through Varis), but you might want to look up the books for it.

      They never attacked her until recently, and it was only Drogon who snapped at her.
      They were super protective of her, especially Drogon.
      Also Drogon is the only one actually eating people, the other two eat animals.
      In the books and the show Drogon is the main issue, he is the alpha dragon and the most aggressive of the three.

    Tywin has a brother to carry on the name and Kevan Lannister has children (Lancel for one). He and Lancel have appeared several times in the TV series. If there is no heir in Tywin's line Casterly Rock falls to Kevan Lannister (though if Cersi remarries it might go to her husband). In the books Kevan becomes Tommen's hand after Tywin's death, but I won't spoil anything else here except to say that it is pretty good.
