    The death of Joffrey really shows off Jack Gleeson's acting ability.
    His performance of death was the best I've ever seen. He managed to make Joffrey look like a scared, innocent little boy, who has no idea what's happen to him. The fear in his eyes as he was dying was SO satisfying.
    Whoever did the makeup for that scene deserves credit, too.

    In the book, Joffery's death actually made me feel sorry for him when it happened. Even though I hated him, he was there, crying, screaming for his mummy, clawing his throat to bloody shreds, with nobody but his mother even caring. It was actually painful to read. That being said, go to hell Joff.

    I just cringe at the purple veins all over Joffery's face. Now who'll be our next dick character to hate? Next on my list is that Bolton's bastard child torturing Theon, then old man Frey.

    The thing that depressed me about this episode is how Tyrion's life is getting completely torn apart. He's lost Shae, he's going into the dungeons for a murder I don't think he committed (he could've come up with something that wouldn't be linked back to him), and I just know that's not all that he'll lose. I fear for Podrick and Bronn, next.

    Ned Stark & Robert Baratheon did it. As soon as they made the pact to marry their houses, they both realized "Dude... Joffrey's a dick. He's going to abuse Sansa, and one day we're both going to be dead and he's going to be a dick to the entire realm! We've gotta stop this." So they set in place a very long, ornate, intricate Rube Goldberg-style series of events that led to his death.

    Joffrey is fucked up don't get me wrong. But he's a thirteen year old kid, ruined by an overprotective mother and people surrounded him his whole life never punishing him, never reprimanding him, telling him that he is special, then one day you just give him absolute power over everything. What do you expect? Well at least thats what GRRM says, of course that guy has no clue..he's just the author...

      If you read the books, honestly, there are points where Cersei is remembering things about when he was little. He was always a little fucked up, but, admittedly, it seems like both Cersei & Robert managed to make it worse by the way they treated/ raised him...

      +XsvruploaderX Yeah, I know GRRM gets lauded over Tolkien for not having black and white characters. Honestly though, there's quite a lot of black ones (Joffrey, Ramsay, Vargo Hoat, The Mountain, Kraznyz, Balon Greyjoy, Walder Frey, Merryn Trant in the show, Janos Slynt, Craster etc.). Not a lot of white ones though. Ned Stark, Tommen, Myrcella, Shireen and Davos Seaworth maybe.
      One thing he does do really well is complicated arseholes, like Cersei, who has a few genuine heart to heart moments with Tyrion, Oberyn, Catelyn etc., but is also a monumental bitch as well as being prideful and stupid. I would have said Tywin, but honestly there's not much redeeming about book Tywin, but Charles Dance makes him one of the best likeable villain characters in fiction.

    What I loved the most about the Wedding was the "When will it happen?"-suspense. Especially when the Rains of Castamere is played by this group of musicians and Joffrey just tosses them a few coins to make them stop like "Yeah, nah, not on my wedding". I mean you know that something's going to happen, but it's so perfectly crafted as to "When" will it happen :D

    • @McCammalot
      @McCammalot 10 років тому

      That bit was hilarious. I almost thought it was like a shoutout to the audience, sort of meta, Joffrey going "Okay NO ONE wants to hear that damn thing again" on our behalf... (only nice thing he ever did for me...)

    Jack Gleeson is tremendous actor. Joffrey was a dick in the books but Gleeson really brought him to life. He's taking an extended leave from acting now that his run on the show is done, so I wish him all the best. That being said I knew the death was coming this episode and all I could think was, GoT fans who have yet to read the books are about to get an early Christmas present. As for who (finally) killed the little turd ... I'll never tell.

      but not how they pulled it off.
      he pored his drink out, then had wine pored from his mothers table. so the only way the poison would've got to him is if he got it from his mothers... i'd suggest that they tried to poison both of them, but the necklace that the poison came from was only missing 1 shard, sooo~... im confused.

    • @SSJEve
      @SSJEve 10 років тому +8

      Zebadiah Lindley SPOILER!!!
      They explain that Olenna Tyrell poisoned him from the poison in Sansa's necklace, the one that Ser Dontos gave her (Baelish was in on it and had Dontos give Sansa the necklace for Olenna). You can see Olenna touch Sansa's necklace when shes talking to her at her table and there she sneaked off a stone from the necklace that was actually a poison filled mini flask. Thats why they said a stone from her necklace was missing after the feast. When the pie showed up Margarie took Joffrey's goblet and set it down at her table and Olenna was sitting right next to her. When Joffrey got a pie piece and came back Margarie picked up the goblet again and Joffrey drank it. The last place the goblet was at before Joffrey drank it was right next to Olenna, not Circe's table.

    Olenna Tyrell and Littlefinger must have done it. She was sitting right there close enough to pour the poison in his cup after taking the vial off of Sansa's necklace, (that she got from Littlefinger's guy Ser Dontos) and Littlefinger had to have been involved because he's the one who had Ser Dontos give Sansa the necklace and spirit her away immediately after it happened.

  • @Xelpherpolis
    @Xelpherpolis 10 років тому +15

    I got mixed feelings about Joffery's death. I'm glad he's dead, but his death scene brought up mixed emotions in me. Initially I was totally ecstatic, but then by the time the scene was wrapping up, I couldn't help but think to myself;
    "Really? THIS is what I wanted to see for over three seasons? A scared kid reaching out for his weeping mother as he hemorrhages to death?" I felt dirty for enjoying it so much, or for wanting to enjoy it. I dunno, just kinda got me thinking about stuff... Maybe a heroes passing is meant to be a tragedy and a villains death is meant to be... I dunno, "necessity" seems like a good word, rather than a cause for celebration.
    Any yeah, I'm with Jeremy in that I'm gonna miss Jack Gleeson. Show won't be the same without ya, bud. You rocked the hell out of that character =)

    • @NilasThomsen

      Most fans agree that he wasn't actually reaching out for his mother: He was pointing at Tyrion, blaming him.

    • @McCammalot
      @McCammalot 10 років тому

      ***** So far, I find *most* of the deaths and things more gruesome on the show. (The only thing that's less gruesome that I can remember is Tyrion's scar.) I don't know how I feel about it. I remember waiting for my show-watching friends to get to the Red Wedding, and being a bit gloaty, like most book-readers were: "Now you know how I felt!" But then I WATCHED it, and realized that the televised version actually upset me more. The book version made me angry,and I threw the book; the TV one made me curl my body protectively around my stomach and sit quietly for some minutes. I haven't actually watched the Purple Wedding yet, but I'm told it's much more obvious that it's undeniably murder and not just choking. I don't know how I feel about that, or how it will impact the plot. (It does make Cersei look less like an overreacting mother, though, by taking away that ambiguity. Actually, another thing the televised version does is make Cersei ten times more sympathetic, now that we're not getting her terrible inner monologues...)

    • @Xelpherpolis
      @Xelpherpolis 10 років тому

      I think you guys misunderstand. I'm not saying I felt bad for him or anything. His death was necessary and I'm glad he's dead. I'm just saying I wasn't dancing on his grave like I thought I would be.

  • @Billie4Mozzarella

    Joff's death was just sad for me. I mean I'm glad he's no longer around to ruin people's lives, but let's be honest--Sansa's no better off now tat he's dead. Tyrion's life just got worse. Ser Jaime might get flak for not "protecting" him and Margaery seemed like she was getting somewhere with him. It came too late, in my opinion.
    Thing is, of the monsters in the series, Joffrey was a kid. He was a product of his family--a grandfather who is a completely vicious murderer, a mother who is hateful toward everyone except her kids, a father who was a drunk who didn't spend time with him and then died... And Margaery was making him better. He was bloodthirsty but she actually manipulated him in a way that made his power useful in areas of charity and care for the kingdom.
    Yes I'm glad he's dead but the death scene just left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm glad it did, because you get to see a mother losing a child and how killing a king, no matter how bloodthirsty, will throw everything into chaos and complicate matters rather than simplify them.

    • @tommenno
      @tommenno 10 років тому +2

      I never get how people don't want sansa to die... I mean, I KNOW she's gonna survive, because I want her dead more then anyone else in the series..
      WHY do people like her? She's every damsel trope on the planet tucked into a whiny bitch shaped ball.

    • @phishthefish
      @phishthefish 10 років тому +10

      tommenno Orrrrrr she was until she realised that heroes and damsels are just figments of stories for simpletons. Which is the entire point.
      So basically, you are the one whos reading the show wrong.

    • @tommenno
      @tommenno 10 років тому +2

      Tango Can
      I've read the books, and she's basically just a bitter version of damsel tropes.
      ***potential spoilers below***
      In the books, she completely stomps Tyrion into the ground when he's been nothing but nice to her, instead of realizing she's found a possible ally who can help her, she clings to yet another idiot knight who screws her life up even more. She refuses to learn from her past mistakes to the point where you wish she'd been the one with a slit throat at the Red Wedding, because at least then the character would make sense later.
      She's a walking victim, And she's going to stumble along, falling into a position that could lead her to actually running the entire damned country, if the foreshadowing in the books plays out like it's been hinting at.
      Her, Snow, and "Other Walking Victim stereotype" Dany are going to be the major powers once things go into endgame, calling it now.

    • @Billie4Mozzarella
      @Billie4Mozzarella 10 років тому +4

      tommenno Sansa doesn't have to be nice to people who victimize her, or their families. You realize that the Lannisters are the reason she's a prisoner, an orphan, abused and harmed? So why trust any Lannister? Why think it's kindness when it could just be another ploy to use her as their tool?
      A damsel will go with anyone who saves her. Sansa is bitter, and she makes her own choices about her fate--for good or for ill. If you want her dead, it's because you don't like her, not because she's a bad character. And I question you wanting her dead because she's a victim--that's pretty disturbing, and I have to ask if you treat all victims this way in your mind.

    • @tommenno
      @tommenno 10 років тому

      Billie4Mozzarella
      I dislike her because she's partly responsible for Ned's death. She's also a huge reason that the Starks are a dead house. (Barring Rickon making it out of the Wilds without marrying his wolf. And Yes, I also think Rob was a moron too. It's not *all* on Sansa.)
      I hate her because, instead of learning from each mistake, she just keeps making the same ones over and over and over.
      There's being stuck in a bad position, and there's walking into the door repeatedly breaking your nose when it has a big ass sign that says "PULL. YOU KNOB." on it.
      ***Spoilers follow***
      Why would she trust a drunkard assclown more then the guy who's treated her like a human being the entire time her husband was abusing her? Why wouldn't she trust the only man in kings landing who stood the hell up to Joffery, and has repeatedly shown he's different from his family? Because he was a Dwarf, and was missing his fucking nose and looked creepy. That's why.
      Maybe if he *DID* rape her, she'd have fallen in love with him, like daeny did with Drogo huh?

      in the books he isn't as classically evil. Everything awful he does in the books comes from...feeling inadequate to be the king. His "father" is this great warrior who conquered the crown, his uncle is this great warrior of the kingsguard and he is just kinda this scrawny kid who lets his mom tell him what to do too often. Also, a few of Joffrey's more evil actions in the show weren't accredited to him in the books
