***** i don't knock the game. it's a good game. i came here to see how the game has changed over time. RS has quite literally shaped my life and career path.
I started to play Runescape in 2005 when i was 9 years old. The funny thing: I didn't even understand a word in english, because in Austria we learn english at middle school. So i learned english through Runescape. ^^
Thank you guys for 25,000 subscribers and 2,000,000 views. I hope this video was everything you expected, and I hope you're having a great weekend. The RS community is by far the best community I've ever been apart of within the world of online gaming. :) EDIT 3/8/2015 - I know a lot of you feel like the video was biased, and you're right, it was very much so biased. My reasoning behind this was not because I resent or hate Jagex LTD. for making decisions that further developed their company, but more so for people to understand why oldschool players (like myself who lived through the devastating times of 2007+) reacted the way they did back then, because the opinions I expressed during the video were in fact how the majority of the community of RuneScape felt then too. I believe that opinions should be able to be counted as apart of the game's history and development too. I don't hate RuneScape 3. Asking me to play RuneScape 3 and not Oldschool RuneScape would be like asking me to play Call of Duty over Battlefield though. In my opinion, they're two totally different games now, but what I want people to understand is... That is okay and that one wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the other. :)
Its been amazing to see you improve from when you had 1k subscribers to now! Its amazing how many subscribers you have gained in such a short amount of time.
Personally I had a horrible time during 2006 so I was anticipating new things constantly. EoC kinda got me back to runescape because it's essentially a restart for me.I understand that many of y'all may prefer OSRS but for me RS3 works for me.
Well holy shit a rs youtuber that puts incredible effort into his vids. No wonder you skyrocketed so quick to get to where you are. I just watched the first 10 seconds of the video and had to pause so I could get some food.. that way I watch this appropriately with the fullest of enjoyment.
Austin P He has to search for information it's obvious, of course he's not gonna know about deviousmud if he hasn't been around at that time. Just like when people learn things by reading. What, did you think he knew all this by magic?
Luigi Deatn stare Luigi is right. XD Of course I use Wikipedia haha! I wouldn't be able to make videos about the game I love all from my memory. Have to recap on some stuff to get it right. :)
Edit 6/18/2015: We're now at 60,000 subscribers, and almost 7,000,000 views on the channel, and it's all thanks to you guys. :) I'm super happy everyone liked this video, and it was definitely my most favorite one I've ever made. Thank you guys!
Mote Plox Awesome video man. First video I've seen of yours. I started playing in 2005 and have played on and off a lot after 2008. Think I'm gonna hop on OSRS now thanks to this video. Keep up the hard work.
This is my favorite Runescape timeline video. You hit all the facts, every event, and you gave us your own personal experience so it didn't sound like a documentary. You are great at making videos! Keep it up man!
i rage quit due to Eoc aswell, then i learned EOC in like 2 days then it got boring as i saw how easy it was to do Gwd and Any pve and quit again. Now im a f2p noob once again on olschool :)
I'm a 2006 RS vet. This video made me smile, but in a bittersweet way. I like you have made friends, and lost friends. I too have rioted before, I've RPed, I've PKed, and above all I have very fond memories of RS. The bittersweet part of it all is truthfully that the game has lost it's sparkle for me. I'm 18 years old now, when I started RS? It made me happy. It was a world I could escape to and have fun and live out my own adventures with friends. I remember getting excited about the holiday events. I remember calling my cousin about to bust with excitement when the summoning update came out and I had seen you could get a wolf and such. It makes me sad that I honestly now could never get back into Runescape. But, at the same time I can say I've had fun playing it. Thank you, for making this awesome trip down memory lane video for us vets of when Runescape was at it's best.
+Aaron Galloway 2004 vet here and feeling the exact same, almost 21 now and i've moved to bigger and better games, but old RS will always have a special place in my heart
Drake Dangereux I actually am glad to report that I've picked up OSRS and honestly it's like my childhood all over again. I actually get excited when I level a skill up knowing "Hey, I've worked for that."
I became so addicted to this game, that after many years of playing it 7 years ago, my mom changed my password to something I didn't know so I'd focus on school. After 7 years, I clicked the "Forgot Password" button, and got my account back. A tear came to my eye; seeing my character wearing splitbark armor standing in the same place he was 7 years prior. I probably won't go back to the game, considering the overwhelming changes made to it since I last saw it, but it was stunning being able to go back to it for a little while.
Jagex released the "runescape 2007" version where you play the same game 9 years ago.. they also let us vote on what they want to add to the game. it's even more popular than runescape 3
daniel baars i liked runescape after they did the first few graphical overhauls. that was around the time i stopped playing. oldschool just looks too old for me
+h3h3productions well look who showed up to this party. this was 7 years ago dude, I'm a music producer/composer now. I realized my life was shit and did something about it. I was insecure to the same degree u and hila were talking about in one of your recent videos. now listen to my shit. www.soundcloud.com/arkingaudio
This game taught me Tree types, Ore Types, Fish Types, helped me with Anxiety, Gave me better English skills and Vocabulary, it showed me how to Communicate, how to make Friends, the Quests even today are the reason that i am so interested in Writing Game Stories (I ripped of Demon Slayer as a story for my English Assignment when i was like 13 lol) Because of this Game i am an Avid Gamer and in University looking to work in the Game Industry and if possible start my own Game Design Company :p - It even taught me about Dangers as well as how to use the Internet, The Stronghold even gave me Knowledge on protecting my self Online, on top of that i have not even mentioned how this Game gave me so many hours of fun, it even helped me deal with my Autism and Grow as a person, i even found my Partner through this Game, i owe my whole Life to this Game and have recently started playing it again today :p
same here bro I'm at UCD right now studying computer science - hit me up at cameronfizpatrick@ucdavis.edu if you ever want to make some games! you use unity right?
OSRS will never be the same, RS was one of those games that shouldn't of changed as much as it did. It was one of those games that you play until you get old enough to stop playing it, which they blatantly skipped and didn't listen to the community. Pretty sad, I don't play anymore but it's fun to watch old videos of RS and what it use to be.
man no way, I remember you from back in the day, you randomly gave me a mithril set around 9-10 years ago. My name was hammermill 40 I play on beckham jr now, can't believe your UA-cam account is huge hope you're doing well man!
Ill never forget the day when my grade 1 teacher asked if anyone knew how to spell "Use", and no one knew how to spell it, so I felt like a total badass being the only one who knew how to spell it because of all the times I saw it in Runescape. :) This game is all great memories to me
same with me but it was in 4th grade to win the spelling bee and the word was " strength " I remembered how because I spent days poking in f2p with my maple bow and potting up Cx
Remember burning your first fish? Cutting your first tree... Stepping outside the gates of Lumbridge for the first time, wondering around with only your wooden shield and bronze short sword. Killing cows and goblins for the first time.. USING YOUR HOME TELEPORT for the first time. Since I joined in 2007, I remember being guided around by a complete stranger showing me EVERYTHING. Visiting the Grand Exchange and buying whatever you could type with what little money you had. Asking everyone "How do you wear goblin mail? Where did you get that water staff?" Trying to beg for gp and then being shown 'green' cash numbers, before being called a noob. The intriguing music.. All the different mobs... Remember that first time you tried to find your own way to Varrock, and coming across that bear (lvl 22 I think) and trying to kill it with only your basic items and lvl 3 account, dying and wondering where your gear went, even though you knew the red name tag meant danger. The nostalgia and memories will never end for most of us and it makes me feel kinda sick in a way that i'll NEVER be able to revisit those first experiences. I always come back to watching my old runescape tutorials to relive part of my childish self. @ Demonicsplitzz
You had it good. Starting back in 02 and playing until 05, Runescape was much more difficult. Especially earning money through trading, since there was no grand exchange back then
i started the game in 05' right when it came out of beta. zezima was right though....remeber when 100k was a TON of money? remeber when a dragon longsword was rare? we will never have those times again. and that makes me sad.
Remember when White P-Hats were 1m and Full rune was 200k? (Yeah, this happened. Right around the time sleeping bags were being used.) We sound like old people talking about how cheap gas was "Back in the day". Eco resets need to happen to combat inflation but... wiping peoples items and gold is not a good way to have a successful game. (DMM excluded)
Rune set was always 200k I thought. I farmed kq for d chains all the time. I sold them when they were roughly 25m if I remember. a buddy and I had a total of 30 or so. blue phat was 200m at the time and I could never save enough for some reason. When I quick in 07/08 i had 15 santas, a purple, red, white and 6 eggs. Gave them all to my clan mates. Oh the memories.
I've pondered this before, and even if an eco reset did happen, it would still not take a long time for people to get rich quick again. Our play style of the game changed over so many years. What I mean is, 10 years ago when playing this, we all thought, "what the hell am I doing and what is over there?" as opposed to "how can I farm xp and not waste my time making gains?" The player base now is based upon farming skills and not wasting time. I hardly make any friends either nowadays, usually having to find people to talk to over community based websites (like reddit and youtube). Back then, all anyone used to do was sit infront of lumbridge and be social, lmao. I had so much boyfriends aswell... So basically, it's not the system of the game that is affecting the money issue, it's the players demand to see gains. That's why jagex even made GE, so people profit even faster. AND- an eco reset won't do anything except bother anyone, cause everyone is just gonna profit at the same rate again
Believe it or not, this is my absolute favorite RuneScape video ever made. The entire video is entertaining, giving me the chills at particular times, such as 0:55, due to the RuneScape tune playing in the background. I remember it clear as day, rushing home after my friends told me about this mysterious online game called "RuneScape." I went to the webpage, made an account and logged into the game, finding myself in a place called Tutorial Island. It didn't take much time until I found myself in Lumbridge and had a whole new world to explore. From that day forward, my addiction to play RuneScape grew an unstoppable rate, taking my friends by surprise as I passed them in levels and knowledge about the game. God damn, Elementary School was lit back in the day. I continued to play through Middle and High School, becoming a part of who I am. When life wasn't look good at times, I always relied on RuneScape to take me to a place where real life/world problems wasn't an issue. Before I knew it, I was watching RuneScape videos on how to complete quests and skill guides. One day, I stumbled across this channel and god damn, I'm glad I did. Mote, believe it or not, you're a true inspiration to me. You've been through thick and thin but you're absolutely killing it right now. RuneScape will forever be part of who you are and I'll always look forward to new RuneScape content from you. No matter what you decide to do, I'll be there for you. The content on your other channel, The Top 10's, is incredible and the future is already bright for you. Just keep in mind, making RuneScape videos for old times sakes will always please your true, og fans.
Dahrmata I remember watching my cousin play RuneScape back in 2006. I always wanted to play but couldn't figure out how to use a computer as I was only 8. Glad to say I found out how to play not shortly after. Many memorable years came after that from RuneScape. This game will always have a place in my heart regardless of how it turns out.
The nostalgia. I started playing this game on and off in the Summer going into 4th grade. Now, years later, I'm 21 years old and going through Paramedic training. Time really does fly.
This brings back memories. It's not the same as '02 anymore... Half the game was convincing mum to buy you a membership... and then trying to figure out how to buy such a thing on "the net". Adult life is less fun.
Sure brings back the good memories from the early 2000's. But I couldn't convince my mum to get me a membership though =( PKing in classic was just epic! Warrior-monks. Warrior-in-monks-robe everywhere.
Bro idk if your gunna read this, but believe it i am 20yrs old and 21 this year I started my account in 2003 mid Sept. And I remember all this and have been there just like you, and a lot of my friends, and childhood.. along with normal life stuff had runescape. It brought so much feels and if I could man id hug you man for making this video it means a lot. no homo lawlz Sincerely - A runescaper.
I get to have friends cuz of this game.. Learned "LOL" ... Trading, i learned kinds of trees, fish, ores etc. i even learned english because of this game. Im so thankful that this game came to my life.
youve not lived half your life mate but i know how you feel i spent around 6 years when i started back in 2004 and than my account got banned like legit i didnt have even that great of stats cause i didnt know how to level efficiently but like thats why i enjoyed it cause i thought no one knew and there was always something new to find out everytime i logged in.
Meechy Darko well i quit for like 2 years and i guess when i wanted to log back in it didnt let me so i checked the high scores and typed my name but its like my account was never made, im assuming that they would have banned for me attempting to sell my account but i would never do that, this game is like half my life i wouldnt wanna sell it
God damn I've been playing this game way to long. Ever since RuneScape 2 released I've loved the game. There is just something about RuneScape that is so unique and unlike any other MMO. Good video Mote!
samuel krajcik ikr ITS MORE AWESOME well i can only play rs3 for that long sorry oldschool your just boring too me but wernt boring to me how ever many years ago
Ahh... This takes me back. 2007: I was in year 5 and was told about a game called 'runescape' by friends. I was at first not interested but as soon as I started tutorial island I knew I was in for an adventure. After many years of playing it brings me lots of nostalgia to see this video. It was about the community. Playing with friends. I went back to try it again after many years of inactivity and it just wasn't the same... I guess it is all a distant memory now
+Psivewri Plays! If one thing is certain in life, that is change. Do I like all the updates? Nope, not all. Each major change was an experience on it's own.
I started playing it in first school when my brother used to help me. I stopped playing after year 4 and then played it again a couple of years ago. I agree, nothing was the same and it's just a distant memory :(
+Mote Plox "...suplort!" - Mote Plox, 2015. Just kidding, Mote. Wouldn't hesitate to say that seeing you working this hard to keep life and your channel together makes me (and I'm pretty sure, a lot of others) feel motivated at hard times. Gratz on 100k subs. Great content, Mote!
that amount of trauma can be staggering yes. I feel also like it was just yesterday that the world collapsed on itself and reality was forever changed for the worse. :( without OSRS i mightve been dead by now
Same here my friend. I always wondered as a kid if I'd be playing this game when I was 30... What I didn't imagine was all the other responsibilities as an adult there'd be lol. Thanks for sticking around. :)
@@Mote_Plox I always asked the same thing lol! Hell I always wondered if people like you would still be around, great to hear from you man. Keep at it!
That little speech at the end where you talked about the ways the game has changed you for the better and just how much of an effect it had on the person you became; god I really was tearing up because like you and so many others, I feel exactly the same way
You couldn't believe they changed combat so that it isn't based on pure luck anymore? They changed it so you actually have to think and do something. That's something you should enjoy.
A real gamer would come back and play again at some point even if it's much later on. Combat was never really my cuppa tea since I have 96 fishing and almost 90 cooking. Fishing, cooking, mining, smithing and quests are what I mostly do.
In my entire rs lifetime by truest friends came from rs and i honestly must have lost about 200 of them to EoC and other updates, now atm im just playing alone and skilling most of the time
I have not seen my old friend from elementary school, who showed me this game in 4th grade since the year after. 2009. I wonder where he is now, he probably has a girlfriend or who knows what. Probably likely quit Runescape
Ray Sharky I hear ya man. I started in 2003. Made many friends up until wilderness was removed, came back in 2011 just before Eoc was introduced, then as it came all my old buddies left, in 2012 I left for good. Seeing this video makes me remember all the good memories though
Scott Hardisty I’m 23, started playing when I was 9 in 2006. I finally have decided to do what I always wanted to do as a lad and that’s get a skillcape. My big goal is the Woodcutting skillcape (I like it a lot) but I’m going for firemaking first
Making changes is not always better lol. Not at all. Sometimes people have rose tinted goggles, other times those people have an actual point. Life is hard.
I miss this game so much, I spend most of my time outside fishing, but I remember the many days, years I put into this game. If they didn't start changing it I'd still be playing it. I never thought I'd miss a game so much
Yeah, I never thought I would quit Runescape by my own. Even through there was many bad updates I still enoyed RS despite that it went down hill. The EoC was the worst and the last drop of passion to handle. RIP my account 2006-2013
***** Same for me. 2006 and 2007 I was obsessed. Accepted the wilderness thing because I didn't really PK much, didn't like a lot of the 2008 stuff but accepted it. 2009 and 2010 the updates started to get better or weren't bad at least. 2011 it started going down hill again with bad update after bad update, by which time everyone I knew had stopped playing it and then I quit in 2012 just before that travesty that is EOC was released. Come back this month to see a completely different game, unoficially known as Easyscape which barely resembles Runescape at all. Now I'm playing RS2007, but it's just not the same as RS in 2007. Half the players, some of the content post-2007 I had grown to love like Soul Wars, no friends on it, no competition. Makes it feel dead. Like everyone is just skilling for the sake of it.
FROOB202 Similiar story, but instead of Soul Wars, I aways loved playing Clan wars minigame. Even through I have lvl 52 with 850 total lvl in oldschoolrunescape I'm still unsure if I want to continue to play. There is a lot of missing content that I really enjoyed from 2008-2011. I still have many unfinished goals in Rs3 account, but because of EoC and how ridiculous modern rs looks I dont want to even stand there. I need something different. Runescape version between 2007Rs and Rs3.
I watched it all, the music totaly fits it, you've got an awesome voice-over voice, and I didn't really had this feeling watching other video's, but I really felt this weird thing, I really had a feeling that I was there with you, going through RuneScape's timeline, I remembered all kinds of things and was frustrated when you mentioned certain updates, I can only salute you for making this amazing video. Thanks
I'm only 15 and started playing in may 2010, but when you mentioned the Osrs poll, I immediately thought 'Wait, you were just talking about the introduction of the ge, time does go very fast and things update way too quickly, I want to be 10 years old again aswell" thanks for making my day man :D
Getting caught up in this game was such an awesome feeling. I could have so much on my mind, hop on this game and then it was like all my problems were gone. Runescape had such a big part of my childhood.
Watching this made me realize ive been playing rs waaaaay longer then I thought. After watching this I got curious and went to hans in lumbridge. Apparently I can get the 10 year vet cape in like 200 days. Had no idea my account was that old lol
Right? When they said that Nex came out in 2011, I was like "What??? That came out 4 years ago?" Everything still seems relatively new and short to me. It might be because I haven't played the game in 3 years, so that time kind of seems like an instant to me, but still, you wonder where all the time has gone.
You don't know what you're talking about Yes! Same here lol. I played a lot from 07-09, so anytime after that I was rarely on. Its all new to me..I feel like a noob all over again
The music at the beginning made me cry lmao. Mainly because as I hear it, I realize everything will come to an end one day. Even my favorite game ever, being this one.
i remember playing runescape in 2005/2006 when i was 6 or 7 cuz of my brother. i was a f2p pker and made new account daily. So when the wilderness came out i left, and i got a ps2 for christmas. then xbox. then in 2009. i actually went randomly to the RuneScape page. And saw that wildy might come back. i made a new account and voted. Then it did come back. and i got members again and started pking, and Dicing/ claw staking. But EOC came and i quit again, after just dicing my bank away really not caring. Then in I again randomly searched RuneScape vids on UA-cam remembering elvemage and shit and there it was a petition for OSRS. And now 2 years later i still cant believe its back. Thought id say my little story. and if u have one similar, reply to this comment kinda want to read it
I started playing at about 8 years old and I used to play on my uncle's account on runescape and just use to wonder around not knowing what to do. Later I realised what to do and went f2p pking and I played the game on and off for the next 3 years. Playing for like a couple of weeks and then forgetting about it and coming back in like 6 months for another couple of weeks.I was flipping at the g.e for the point of it and still wonder around. Then recently I found out that legacy was going to come out (7 months ago now!) and for the first time I got really into the game and started pking and bought membership. I have never played the new osrs because I cant be bothered making an account but you never know. Btw nice story :)
TurdSuckerRS I began playing RuneScape in 2004 when I was 10 years old, towards the ending of the 3rd phase of the RuneScape 2 beta that had just been updated for free players to access. I had no idea what I was doing at the time, but it didn't matter. The charm was the simplicity, and I was never fortunate enough to have a Play Station, Nintendo or Gamecube like all my other friends, so RuneScape was there for me at this age, and I finally felt like I had something other kids didn't. :)
I remember when I was 8 years old too I was with my friend and he told me he owned an entire island. I couldn't believe it so he gave me 30 coins and we went to his island. I was so amazed I wanted to buy my own island. Then I remember going into the volcano and dying from skeletons. Took me a while to realize it was actually Karajma lol.Good times
I played this game since i was 6 in 2005 i played it from my brother i liked it af but eoc ruined rs and i wish eoc haven't been on rs and i wish also that i could go back to 2005 the golden days
I remember my friend pressuring me to play Runescape when I was 11, this was in late 06 to early 07. I was on tutorial island and didnt understand a single bit of the game.. I tried eating bronze bars because they looked like chocolate bars lolz.. and then when I got in game, I trained my attack all the way to 20, thinking it'd make me strong, while i kept my strength at like 5.. and I also levelled defence really high too.. I also trained mining into the 40's because my goal was to mine runite so I could get myself rune armour xD Little did i know, the road to 99 mining would've taken me months
I havent played Runescape since 2004 but I will never forget the feeling of PKing. The rush when you'd see that white dot on the mini map.. No game EVER on any console will ever come close to it. I played WoW for a long time after RS changed, and I've quit that too now. Its fair to say I have fonder memories of Runescape. I am considering getting back on, but I dont think I will be able to recreate those feelings of excitement that I had when I was 12.
i almost got tears watching this video. This game was so amazing played from 2006 to 2010, met amazing people. awesome memories...... time flies god damit.
I came back to RuneScape in 2017. I play both OSRS and RS3. I quit originally in 08. Watching this video made me cry. I think Jagex has made a good a recovery and continues to take steps in the right direction, but it will never be what it once was.
Runescape is growing, both games in general, about 2 years ago we had 60k total players around the same date, ( 15-24k osrs players and about 34k rs3)now we have over 93k players at peak times.()over 40k osrs! and over 45k rs3!) both games have grown so much that the community should be proud of itself. It's time to forget the past and it's time to end the rs3 vs osrs war about wich game is better. Lets enjoy our games and be in peace. Nice vid man.
Luigi Deatn stare I'm super happy you enjoyed the video my friend. :) And I agree with you 100%, we should enjoy what we have now, and the fact that it is once again becoming popular. :)
Crazy I believe I started playing this game when I was nine, and now I'm about to turn twenty. I don't play anymore though.I agree with what you said about how runescape effected you. My vocabulary increased , my typing progressed quickly, and the ability to make friendships. I was surprised that I never turned into a mod, but o well was an amazing game. Thanks for making the video. :)
waverunner517 Same here, started at 9 or 10 and now I'm 19, haven't played in a while because I forgot my username and password :( it sucks, but I still have one friend I met on runescape in facebook :') good times
waverunner517 Haha you're not alone, me too i was 8yo when i started to play runescape (2004) :o its so crazy what the game isn't the same like before.. haha
rightttt??? i remember ;all through middle school and then even through highschool everyone was like... how the hell do you type that fast... I never realized untill now it was probably because of runescape xD I used to have typing contest with people like.. whoever spells the alphabet first gets 20k ready go I think runescape and pokemon helped me with my vocab a lot.
+Joshua Owens it still is, maybe its just you who has grown apart from the game and now you are trying to relive the experience you remember as a kid wich you never will or maybe if you invent a time machine :D
What you have achieved in 30 minutes with this video is bringing back a flood of memories from some of the happiest times in my life. Liked and subscribed. You did a fantastic job putting this video together and educated me on things I never knew or had forgotten. Thank you!
I feel lile crying. lol. this video explained every detail of runescape I couldnt begin to explain. I started playing RSC in 2002. I hated the beta release in 05. alot of my friends left for it. I tried it and liked it. but I missed the RSC days. I slowly forgot about RSC and continued RS2. my friends slowly quit as the updates became increasingly severe. Runescape taught me my vocabulary. also how to ttpe well and fast. I'll still play osrs from time to time. but without friends who will play with me. I dont think ill ever commit again. Im Xero.
Vaughan Baasch I've actually met some now irl friends already through Osrs. You can always make new friends. That and just recently i've gotten some irl friends to play Osrs too (some that haven't ever even tried Rs or given it a good shot)
I just want all of us to stop bitching about the game and embrace our memories in the game. I believe it's not exactly the game that made us hooked but our relationships with the players we met. We interacted in game and had fun together in game.
After watching a few of your videos, I was actually motivated to log back into my runescape account after 10 years of inactivity. Everything, all my gear and levels and progress, still there haha! Thanks for making these videos, they've brought back a lot of memories for me.
I love Runescape! I grew up with this game and have been playing on and off for almost 13 yrs now. Really happy that Runescape isnt dead and that OSRS brought back a lot of players (myself included). Thanks for the great video, fellow Runscaper! Cheers
Feels so sad to look at my Runescape 3 account nowadays. Started it when i was 7 years old when my big brother finally made me an account on runescape. There i was killing those goblins and chickens. Grinding for rune scimitar. Still remember the day that my big brother quit playing runescape, dropping all hes items on Lumbridge spawn and saying "to the place where it all began" *log out*
Started playing in 2003 when I was 10. I played RS Classic for two weeks before RS2 officially came out in 2004. Man it’s been a journey and still playing today in 2020 and I’m 27. This isnt a game that goes away tbh it’s apart of my life at this point. 2008 everyone left RS and started making their own private servers like soul split. We can’t forget all the private servers that came out when we lost the wildy.
You are the same age as me. I started in 02 and played until about 05. Picked up OSRS again in ‘19 but there were too many damn bots. Tried it again in ‘22 now and it is so much better. Thank you Jagex for keeping this legend alive !!!
I am also one of these people he said who believe RS died in 07-08 due to AH and purple portal clan wars. I haven't played since then, but I did go back for a week or so a couple times each year for the holiday events, until eventually forgetting my logins when I got a new PC. I did play a few private servers but it just wasn't the same as being a part of the real thing, for me at least. I just remember that classic website with the goofy ass looking skeleton playing chess with an adventurer. My friend telling me how cool the game was on AIM while I made my first of five characters. I didn't know about WoW or EQ or any other MMO, I thought this was the first. It was never the only game I played but so many of my friends from school and from other games played it, so I'd always meet them there, we would go PKing, help each other with quests, or just talk for a while with complete strangers and sometimes recruit them for other games. Different times man, I sure miss the way the net used to be. I will never forget those moments, even the funny shit on the pservers.
Yeah whenever I dug those photos out off of my old computer and saw that, I was like whaaaaat. :D We was frandz? Hahaha, super happy you enjoyed! Thanks for the mention during the stream!
been a player since 2003. ive seen damn all of it on the game. never maxed out, experienced the discomfort of some of the updates like all of you.. but yeah special place in my heart for my memories. from top page to a nobody.
I've been playing runescape since 2003. Watching your nostalgic overview filled me with both sadness and joy. The devastating choices Jagex made in 2007 changed the game forever. They are to blame for chosing a path the players never wanted in the first place. We all loved runescape the way it was: a simple goal-oriented low-graphics game, held together by a supportive and social community. They took away so many aspects of the game we all loved, ignorant of the massive protest it caused. The fact that an eight-years-old copy of the game knows greater succes than the current version just shows how wrong they were. Nevertheless it is fair to say that runescape helped us become who we are today. Even though I'm 25 years old and get my doctor of medicine degree in a few months, I sometimes still smile when i think about the great times I've had in this game and the friends I've made. Old school RS gives us a chance to relive that nostalgic world we used to spend so much time in. In the end all of us who play or have played this game made some precious memories in there. We all loved runescape. We should focus on the good times we had in the game, and try to not wonder about what could have been. 3njoy--lumby
you dont ever quit runescape, you can only take breaks...
not true. i played for thousands of hours off and on over a few yrs. ultimately i quit
***** i don't knock the game. it's a good game. i came here to see how the game has changed over time. RS has quite literally shaped my life and career path.

Thank you guys for 25,000 subscribers and 2,000,000 views. I hope this video was everything you expected, and I hope you're having a great weekend. The RS community is by far the best community I've ever been apart of within the world of online gaming. :)
EDIT 3/8/2015 - I know a lot of you feel like the video was biased, and you're right, it was very much so biased.
Toby Scrubieo Thanks for sticking around Toby. :) It means a lot to me that you're still here!
***** Thanks for the confidence you have in me man. It really means a lot to me, and I'm super happy you enjoyed the videos I've made. :)
Personally I had a horrible time during 2006 so I was anticipating new things constantly. EoC kinda got me back to runescape because it's essentially a restart for me.I understand that many of y'all may prefer OSRS but for me RS3 works for me.
great video!

Mote Plox Awesome video man. First video I've seen of yours. I started playing in 2005 and have played on and off a lot after 2008. Think I'm gonna hop on OSRS now thanks to this video. Keep up the hard work.
We'll always be here, Mote.
This is my favorite Runescape timeline video. You hit all the facts, every event, and you gave us your own personal experience so it didn't sound like a documentary. You are great at making videos! Keep it up man!
Mote Plox did you ever return to old school RuneScape?
I was only 16 when I started playing, now I'm 26 and I still get back to the game - even if I do nothing but stand in GE! LOL

+Aaron Galloway At it's best? 2006? Way to late there pal, pre RS2 was RS at it's best. You saw it at it's most mediocre.
Mkilbride2599 It's all a matter of opinion.
Mkilbride2599 To me? Eoc and beyond is mediocre. People disagree, so it's all a matter of opinion.
+Xyloe Music oh man...that's beautiful
Jagex released the "runescape 2007" version where you play the same game 9 years ago.. they also let us vote on what they want to add to the game. it's even more popular than runescape 3
daniel baars i liked runescape after they did the first few graphical overhauls. that was around the time i stopped playing. oldschool just looks too old for me

I don't suppose you spelled it "yews"?
Especially earning money through trading, since there was no grand exchange back then
@@Jazzadrin that runescape classic was copied off ultima online lol from the sandcrabs to the loot drops
lmao
Man Runescape 2 was the days...
i started the game in 05' right when it came out of beta.
zezima was right though....remeber when 100k was a TON of money? remeber when a dragon longsword was rare? we will never have those times again. and that makes me sad.
I remember paying £10 for 1 million gp back in the day
Remember when White P-Hats were 1m and Full rune was 200k? (Yeah, this happened. Right around the time sleeping bags were being used.)
We sound like old people talking about how cheap gas was "Back in the day".
AND- an eco reset won't do anything except bother anyone, cause everyone is just gonna profit at the same rate again
hex knives i remember full dragon costing a shit ton of money back then and the god armor were impossible to get very very rare
The music you used brings me back to my old rs days. I qualified for my 10 year cape in april. Good times.
Nick Carbaugh I get mine in 11days! I CANT WAIT!

A real gamer would come back and play again at some point even if it's much later on. Combat was never really my cuppa tea since I have 96 fishing and almost 90 cooking. Fishing, cooking, mining, smithing and quests are what I mostly do.
I play osrs cus rs3 is shit
It's not the same as back in the day. Even though we have old school. The friends I played with don't want to touch it anymore and that's sad.
In my entire rs lifetime by truest friends came from rs and i honestly must have lost about 200 of them to EoC and other updates, now atm im just playing alone and skilling most of the time
Ray Sharky all my of my old friends only log on osrs i never see them on rs3
I have not seen my old friend from elementary school, who showed me this game in 4th grade since the year after. 2009. I wonder where he is now, he probably has a girlfriend or who knows what. Probably likely quit Runescape
Ray Sharky I hear ya man. I started in 2003. Made many friends up until wilderness was removed, came back in 2011 just before Eoc was introduced, then as it came all my old buddies left, in 2012 I left for good. Seeing this video makes me remember all the good memories though
ItzCoopzFtw I play when i feel lonely
I started late 2006 and quit 2010. A great 4 years. Now I've restarted old school and I'm just having a go
Are you playing rn? I'm thinking about playing it for the first time...
Scott Hardisty 07 dosent feel the same tho
*+Zyris Vlogs* Maybe cause you're older now.
Scott Hardisty I’m 23, started playing when I was 9 in 2006. I finally have decided to do what I always wanted to do as a lad and that’s get a skillcape. My big goal is the Woodcutting skillcape (I like it a lot) but I’m going for firemaking first
This game taught me how to type VERY quickly. Especially when in an in-battle situation.
SepticSole Hell yea lmao
Or when someone folowing u, and u had to type and finish the sentence before reaching the point u click to walk
Hey I remember this game!
And we all remember you. :)
holy crap
wtf gertjaars
been subbed to you for years. still see your random live music festival videos in my feed. ^^
Hey dude :)
Played this game for ever. It was the evolution of combat update that got me to quit
BabyBobaFette Me too, but I came back and turned on Legacy mode.
Belock ikr its not that bad
runescape did the right choice making changes is better always!
Making changer is not always better
Making changes is not always better lol. Not at all. Sometimes people have rose tinted goggles, other times those people have an actual point. Life is hard.
Me too! I knew it was going to be much different after the combat change and also when the eyes looked real! Lol
Who else just comes back to this video on occasion? Mote plox is one of the most humble & knowledgeable person I know. Love you man
I miss this game so much, I spend most of my time outside fishing, but I remember the many days, years I put into this game. If they didn't start changing it I'd still be playing it. I never thought I'd miss a game so much
P's I played from about 2002-2012
Yeah, I never thought I would quit Runescape by my own.
Thanks for this. I'm crying now.
You missed out my friend. You were 5 years to late to the best point in runescape
I started in 03
I miss locking people in the wizard tower.. (2001-2004)
I miss locking people in lumbridge castle
Ahh nothing better thaan Runescape rape
Dude I did that in the lumbridge castle and varrock bank or scamming kids before the GE
i actually got lured there in rs classic re release in 2009 and lost like 3 bil
Getting caught up in this game was such an awesome feeling. I could have so much on my mind, hop on this game and then it was like all my problems were gone. Runescape had such a big part of my childhood.
Watching this made me realize ive been playing rs waaaaay longer then I thought. After watching this I got curious and went to hans in lumbridge. Apparently I can get the 10 year vet cape in like 200 days. Had no idea my account was that old lol
That's how you get one?! I've been playing since 07 and was wondering when they would give me the cape
Right? When they said that Nex came out in 2011, I was like "What??? That came out 4 years ago?"
Everything still seems relatively new and short to me.
ThePieMan305 I can get mine in 300 days :P Small world, huh?
I'm getting my 10 year vet cape in 2018. I have my original veteran cape, which I obtained in 2013
This goes down as top ten of gaming experiences over my life.
Give it a try mate there's F2P :)
This resonates with me. I could have said the exact same thing.
Almost 5 years later. OSRS going on strong, still.
Rs3 doing even better
@@A_Black_Sheep94 no osrs has more players and doing much better, rs3 is nothing but p2w garbage
OSRS is one of the greatest mmos of all time. Same with City of Heroes. Ahhhh, memories.
@@Jazzadrin city of heroes? thats where i live
@@UltraTech97 its a good one! I need to play it again soon
My childhood 💔 I miss it..
Agree
For real! Ive played for so long so many generations of rs.. really has been the greatest game of my life lol no other has sucked me in like rs..
Just restarted RS3 finally giving it a chance and its been great aside of a few parts
I agree I played back in 2006 - 2009 and it was the best thing ever I just recently started playing again and have been loving it
i almost got tears watching this video. This game was so amazing played from 2006 to 2010, met amazing people. awesome memories...... time flies god damit.
+Elias Remark :)
Runescape 2/Oldschool Runescape is hands down the best.
I miss Runescape 2 so much.. I would do anything just for another play :/
It still up!!!
Google "runescape 2007"
Athony Allen Runescsape 2 is like HD graphics.. 2009-2011
I guess you could try Legacy Mode, that's the closest you can get to your definition of "RuneScape 2"
TeaVeeBug RS You are missing the point if you want to play it for the graphics
TeaVeeBug RS Osrs
Nostalgia overload. Great video, literally made me remember all the great times I had and all the long hours of grinding.
This Game is older than me...
Oh my lord
same
kids
pubert
+Adam I'm 16...
MOM GET THE CAMERA lol
So good to see OSRS! I left in 2004, didnt even know it got all the crazy updates so i'm glad i missed that. Just started playing again
Don't be closed minded
''Three brothers that ended up touching the childhoods of millions of people...''
I came back to RuneScape in 2017. I play both OSRS and RS3. I quit originally in 08. Watching this video made me cry. I think Jagex has made a good a recovery and continues to take steps in the right direction, but it will never be what it once was.
Joined OSRS again 2 days ago, loving it...Played it a bit too much already sitting at CL60.
Loved rs2 but moved on to 3 more quest and stuff to do and skills just so much more
There was once a game loved by many and people grew up with happy... then rs3 came out and I say it killed the game.
Nope
It did, it looks like freaking Leaque of Legends with all those ''abilities'' :C !!
exactly ffs
lol thats the first time i've heard someone said rs3 looks like League of Legends instead of World of Warcraft
+MasterJazz09 Eoc sucked lol
It's a dead expensive game, how about that.
Dude, there are other important things to buy with that $9.49 than paying for membership.
Jack Hoff ''ingame money'' you know.. gp and bonds?
runescape taught me how to smelt minerals together to form metal.
Haha. I started at 9 and im almost 19. I still play rs3 though but im not maxed. I took a couple 4 year long breaks. Ign: Land Shark
waverunner517 Same here, started at 9 or 10 and now I'm 19, haven't played in a while because I forgot my username and password :( it sucks, but I still have one friend I met on runescape in facebook :') good times
Paola Sol Same here!!
12 long years now.. ;(
waverunner517 Haha you're not alone, me too i was 8yo when i started to play runescape (2004) :o its so crazy what the game isn't the same like before.. haha
rightttt???
i remember ;all through middle school and then even through highschool everyone was like... how the hell do you type that fast...
I never realized untill now it was probably because of runescape xD
I used to have typing contest with people like..
whoever spells the alphabet first gets 20k ready go
I think runescape and pokemon helped me with my vocab a lot.
Anyone remember how awesome that game used to be?
+Joshua Owens yes. so many great memories crushed by runescape 3
+Fresh FX osrs exists?
yeah but the time between RS2 and RS3 was a really fun one.
+Joshua Owens The game is still awesome.
+Joshua Owens it still is, maybe its just you who has grown apart from the game and now you are trying to relive the experience you remember as a kid wich you never will or maybe if you invent a time machine :D
Late 2007-2012 Was my time on Runescape. Oh man so many good memories...
That's probably when it peaked best years and graphics
Im Xero.
amazing stats man wow yeh i go out with mates and play sport and still find old rs my favourite game to play from time to time
Vaughan Baasch I've actually met some now irl friends already through Osrs.
George Washington Thank you, Mr. President
***** hardly. It's taken a harsh blow but it's recovering. Btw i love the world events and quests that bring the lore about the gods.
Angel of Death Light and Darkness Trying to update Runescape to make it more like WoW was their worst mistake. It ruined what runescape was about.
Follay here comes the bitching again...
School classmates played together... it helped bond kids...
The other day I started playing OSRS and one of the servers we're full. Makes me happy.
After watching a few of your videos, I was actually motivated to log back into my runescape account after 10 years of inactivity. Everything, all my gear and levels and progress, still there haha! Thanks for making these videos, they've brought back a lot of memories for me.
Lol i remember hunter, was playing the day it was released.. Now to get me a time machine.
YOU BETTER NOT LEAVE WITHOUT ME I WANNA GO BACK TOOOO
runescape peaked in 2007, and died in 2012.
+louis gardner Runescape died when RS2 was announced
+darkmanddk ya
:(
+louis gardner Its getting back up there now.
*****
classic?
no it wont ever be what it was when it was at its prime, the era of runescape is over unfortunately
thank you, mote plox iv fallen back in love with oldschool rs and its all thanks to you, once again thanks man your the best.
Thanks for the awesome compliment. I appreciate your support!! :)
Still remember the day that my big brother quit playing runescape, dropping all hes items on Lumbridge spawn and saying "to the place where it all began" *log out*
Stringihuijari Nina lol
OH MY GOD IM ON YOUR FRIENDS LIST!!!!!! WHAT!!!!!!! 26:23 btw this is making me cry now
Alisha12287 w 70 was my home world too :(
Yeah whenever I dug those photos out off of my old computer and saw that, I was like whaaaaat. :D We was frandz? Hahaha, super happy you enjoyed! Thanks for the mention during the stream!
Alisha12287 Shoot, you're cute :P
Caleb Mathis slick
Max J lifting videos Thanks fam
been a player since 2003. ive seen damn all of it on the game. never maxed out, experienced the discomfort of some of the updates like all of you.. but yeah special place in my heart for my memories. from top page to a nobody.

2019, Still playing Runescape! Off and on for the last 11 years!
i think we are the exact same situation lol, im 21 next month and started playing when i was 10.
This video made me feel. Thank you for that. RS changed my life.
I remember those days :( really missed it mostly in 2011
