I agree it can dampen the experience, but that's why you should always select a seat in the main business class cabin and a lot closer to the front to guarantee your meal choice. KLM also let you pre-select your main meal on their app, but pre-selection is only available when flying out of Amsterdam. Greetings from Amsterdam: KLM deploys artificial intelligence to combat food waste KLM is wasting less food on board aircraft thanks to artificial intelligence. The food on KLM from AMS to ICN is obviously miles better than the food in the other direction which is provided by a 3rd party in ICN where KLM has relatively little influence over...
Couple of reasons. Firstly, the ticket price isn’t discounted therefore expectations are understandably high. Secondly, the airlines have total control over outstation catering, it’s done by the same large global players like dnata or Do&Co regardless of where you go. The airlines have tailor made menus to choose from and can co create these custom to every detail with the catering firms. Poor food service from any location is totally the responsibility of the airlines.
@@Travelsbydreamer I understand they have theoretical full control over outstation meal composition, but you're not going to give that the same level of attention as you do on your own hub. Own hub 50% of the travellers leave from and each individual outstation is at max 1% of that. If you really want to rate a carrier on the quality of their catering you should do so on the outbound leg from their hub. Everything else is just hit-and-miss.. Same with airport/ lounge experience. KLM lounge in London is horrendous compared to Amsterdam...
@ 50% of an airlines flights are from outstations. These deals with the global catering firms can cover a wide range of destinations. One could argue it’s better to judge from an outstation to truly see attention to detail as this is where a truly decent carrier will get it right. Not quite sure what you’re driving at attempting to defend a major carrier only putting 1.5 meals on for a main service from somewhere like Seoul. It was poor and was called out as such.
@@Travelsbydreamer I'm not defending the airline. If the food is poor, it's poor... All I'm saying is that airlines have more control over customer experience when flying from their hub compared to flying from an outstation. Back in the days I used to work for a global ground handler and although visiting airlines had some room for customization, the extent of that was rather limited. I guess in catering that is somewhat similar. There are a number of set menus to choose from and you can vary a bit left and right but you don't have the same degree of freedom when working with your own hub catering. Also on the fact that they deliver the wrong number of meals on board. At outstations the turnaround time is short and errors can often not be corrected at short notice. Anyway, I'm not defending a particular airline, but just wanted to make the point that when reviewing airlines, there are differences on outbound versus inbound flights.

I forgot to mention a trans flight attendant who was flirting with me in business once. Just not appropriate but this is how they presented themselves to me. I have no apologies. Don’t even get me started on how they handled operations during the pandemic. Even though I had a negative COVID result, they still tried to prevent me from boarding my second flight in transit with them, which almost left me stuck in Amsterdam, additionally I almost lost my job, because some short and nasty white woman in a KLM uniform at Schipol wanted to flex her power. @ last business class flight: I was served kosher, not sure why, and the plate had nothing on it. Nothing. No explanation. Recently I booked economy plus through DELTA, refundable ticket. DELTA put me on KLM. I paid for lounge access through KLM, as well as airport parking, through KLM. I ultimately had to cancel. Even though I received the refund through DELTA, KLM only refunded me for the airport parking, but not lounge access. They had no explanation. They don’t care. To be honest their customer service is garbage and their third world customer service representatives represent just that: third world. Utter disaster. And I have to fly with them next month in business again…
