      @@mohicannative YOU are in control of your health care and rehabilitation if you are not comfortable with that therapist just tell them that you would like somebody with more experience they will understand. It is your choice to make. I was in wound care for about a year before I had my below the knee amputation and there was a gentleman there at the same time that would only let one certain nurse wrap his wound so it is not that uncommon.
      I hope this helps and the best of luck to you.

    Good video..is it ok or safe if still got air pissing sound still coming out from the socket valve.

    • @MissionGait
      @MissionGait  3 роки тому

      This is what is called "pistoning", where the leg is moving up and down in the socket causing this sound. Usually this is a fit issue that can sometimes be resolved by the use of prosthetic socks or an adjustment to the prosthetic socket. If you are using only a suction fit and the prosthesis is moving a lot, it can be concerning. If you're unsure, check with your prosthetist to be on the safe side.

    I have an atk on my left side. When i sit down and try to stand back up my prosthesis becomes real loose, is that common?

    • @MissionGait
      @MissionGait  4 роки тому +2

      Yes, it is very common! There are a lot of ways that can happen, so it is best to check with your prosthetist to determine if there is a way to improve your fit and prevent the loosening of the socket.

  • @alstegmeyer2824

    If the inner diameter of the nylon liner of the fiberglass socket does NOT match the outer diameter of the gasket at the position the "fixed" gasket lands at the socket liner - the gasket will NOT maintain a seal-especially when the amputee sits (drives) and the leg shifts a slight angle, thus the suction breaks. Using a gasket that moves up and down the liner ...the user can adjust the location of the gasket to match the interior circumference of the fiberglass socket. PLUS, since the volume of the limb WILL change - this allows the user to adjust the height of the gasket to match the volume and changes in the limb.
    The fixed gasket is a design problem if not a potential for fall and massive annoyance.

    How can you easily get the lanyard system in perfectly straight if you have a knee that only bends forward?

    • @MissionGait
      @MissionGait  3 роки тому +1

      (Please clarify if this isn't what you are asking.) The lanyard strap does not interact with the knee. Maintaining a good alignment is really down to establishing a good fit within the socket and aligning the knee to face straight ahead while donning the limb. The lanyard simply keeps the prosthesis suspended from the residual limb, contributing little to the actual alignment. A prosthetist can be of significant help in coaching further.

    • @mariannethompson6955
      @mariannethompson6955 3 роки тому +1

      Mission Gait I mean an easy way to get my sleeve on straight, so that when I slip into the socket my foot will face perfectly straight forward. Takes me about 6-8 try’s with each leg.

    • @MissionGait
      @MissionGait  3 роки тому +3

      @@mariannethompson6955 You can try marking the top of the liner at the middle of the front-facing side using a permanent marker. Just a small vertical line. This way you have a mark to follow so you know how it should be properly aligned.

    Sir with artificial leg i can't walk well what reason

    • @MissionGait
      @MissionGait  2 роки тому

      There are many reasons that people have difficulty with a prosthetic limb. Most notably, prosthetic limbs are difficult to walk with as they are different from an original limb. You can certainly use our videos as a resource, but we would strongly recommend working with a physiotherapist and prosthetist to ensure you are walking at your highest potential.

    Below knee prosthesis suspension with straps

    • @MissionGait
      @MissionGait  4 роки тому

      Thank you for the comment. We didn't include straps in this video as they are becoming a less common approach to prosthetic suspension. We do see them with transfemoral and hip disarticulation amputees, but generally as an additional stabilization for increased activity. I unfortunately couldn't find a great resource for instruction on donning this style of device, so a prosthetist would be your best resource.
