  • These monthly lists are made so that you can keep up on your deer hunting and habitat chores for the entire year. Here is the deer work that I need to accomplish for the month of April so that I can personally stay on track. Hopefully the chores that I am completing will help you stay on track on your own deer hunting parcels.
    To learn how to create the #1 deer hunting parcel in April and beyond, check out my collection of deer hunting and habitat web classes:

    One of the best deer hunting strategies, is to make sure that you are practicing my highly proven weather based hunt predictions when you head out to hunt. Check out HuntCast, at:

    Deer lease chores, something I would feel blessed to look forward to each day rather than my normal job. My life, my dream, my passion is hunting. Ain't nothing like the smells, the sounds, the sweat, the blood, the memories, the lessons learned, the meat on the table, etc... I envy and am jealous of folks who can hunt for a living.

    Jeff,
    Planning on using your no till method this year with buckwheat to plant winter rye. With this process, when do I spray the DeerGro Plot Start? Before planting the buckwheat on June 1 or before planting the winter rye on August 1?? I know I have to spray glyphosate after smashing the buckwheat to kill the buckwheat. Located in North Central WV.
    Ps- I used DeerGro Plot Start last fall when planting a perennial clover plot and had success with it.
    Thanks for all you do!!

      Hi Chad I may be in the next year, but only in very specific combinations of states. OH, PA, NY, WI, MN and MI are unavailable.
      Some of the requirements are a minium of 10 to 20 years of successful, non guided hunting success. 5 to 10 years of deer habitat and food plot experience. At least 2 years of WHS concept experience. Wildlife or habitat management degrees may or may not be detrimental.
      Other than those positions we would not have any that relate to an in-the-field position.
      I hope that helps Chad!

    Hi Jeff. Second season switch. Foxtail grass is problem. How often should I mow second season switch? Same as first season? Thank you for all you do! Very busy with videos and travel.

    • @alexpinnow6509
      @alexpinnow6509 2 роки тому

      Greg I've done some research on this and you don't want to over-mow because foxtail will just throw the seed heads at shorter and shorter heights. Like he said in this video a mid-late July mow and maybe one more in May or June should be sufficient. I plan on doing this as well with some foxtail heavy areas and eventually switchgrass will prevail! (Hope you're getting simazine out soon too)

    • @johnmanganello4551
      @johnmanganello4551 2 роки тому +1

      Greg, I had the same problem last year. Spraying Quinclorac 1.5L wiped out the foxtail and left the switchgrass unharmed. Use with methylated seed oil. Worked great for me. There are several UA-cam videos on using Quinclorac to kill foxtail in young switchgrass.

In the bedding area, would you hinge a few of Poplar to create side cover, rather than flush cut and then flush cut the rest to get browse? Also, at what height do you mow the Switch Grass to? Thanks as always for all your insights!

    • @joshharwood6650
      @joshharwood6650 2 роки тому

      Hes usually pretty quick to reply but just from watching his videos and working on my own property. My opinion only but, most likely selective cut the oak and maple to keep the good ones and up n comers or hire a Forrester to remove sone of the big mature oaks and maple. Youll most likely want to flush cut the poplar so it grows as fresh chutes and hinge cut some of the oaks and maples as poplar doesn't hinge well. Hope some of this helps, happy management!

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  2 роки тому

      You are very welcome! How many gallons depends entirely on your coverage rate. For example many ATVs can spray at about 12.5 gallins per acre with 2 nozzle sprayers and 7 to 8mph. Some are less efficient at 15 gallons per and my UTV sprayer with 7 nozzles is more efficient at closer to 10.5 gallons per acre at around 7 to 8mph.
      You just have to figure out your coverage rate at a given speed and then just go from there...
