Deer Chores would make a great play list. These videos do keep my creative thought processes moving in the right direction. Getting ready to do some flagging to enhance/encourage deer movement in the direction of stand locations.
I have my year long chore list that I try to chip away once every couple of weeks for at least a half a day. Definitely adds up over the course of a season.
Jeff great vid... big relief... I have 40 acres and a couple weeks back you had me worried, you talked about 20 acre lot better than 40 because of depth of field. We like to enjoy our land all yr around not just hunting. Been scratching my head on how to layout my land for next yr (not a good hunting season this yr, drought killed my food). I was relieved to hear you cruise your property with friends in the off season. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
I need to work these backwards, especially 6! Still have a buck tag burning a hole in my pocket but am excited to get after more habitat work! Happy new year Jeff, Dylan, Jen, and baby Jax!
Jeff, could you do a real time video of how you treat your brassica plots when you do convert them this spring? A visual of you showing what they look like and the next steps would be very helpful.
I'm overseeding the red clover on last year's brassica plots in March/April--probably will spray them with glyphosate. That half of my food plots will be planted to oats and rye in August/September and yes I'll spray it out at that time. For this year's brassicas plots I'll be spraying last year's oats & winter rye with glyphosate in late May and spreading buckwheat into them. In early August I'll spray the buckwheat with glyphosate and spread my brassica + peas blend over the top of that. Not exactly what Jeff does, but close and I wanted the ground covered year-round in addition to putting a legume ahead of my small grains. Sunn hemp didn't work last year--might have been seeded too late and the seed isn't cheap. He's got a lot of brassica establishment videos if you go through the playlist.
@@BillVerbeten I do similar.. have problems getting peas (and previously beans) to grow well. this past year rather than rotating half my plot I started multiculutes of amny species. some worked real well and others not so much. wWeather was an issue here in PA too wet early and no rain late.
Jeff last year you did a video in the sping about planting silky willow from Big Rock Trees. Could you do an update on those planting? I want to buy some for my property and would love to see the growth.
Thanks Jeff we appreciate your hard work on the videos. I’m building a cabin on the farm I’ve been setting up with some of your strategies for hunting . I’d like to see a video if possible of setting up ones hunting property with a cabin or home in the middle of a personal farm.
what is your thought on beach nut trees? we have tons and normally we cut them down and burn the lumber . they shade out other growth, but the deer seem to love hanging out in areas were there are many.
Have y’all ever done a video on having creeks or natural water on the property? I have two creeks that run the length of my property roughly 30acres long in sc. I know y’all are always mentioning making your own waterholes.
Hey Jeff, I’ve got neighbors to my west and north that have food plots anywhere from 10 to 30 yards from the propert line. I wanted to create some buck bedding close to those areas until I found their newly created plots (my food plots are 80 and 100 yards away with doe bedding next to them) I’m worried that it will benifit them more than me. Any suggestions? Should I just try to hinge cut those area and create line of movement more towards my food plots and stand. Thanks for any help in advance. Happy New Year!
Jeff I'm moving my food plots to a different area so they aren't bedding on the neighbors . I wanna create the field a large bedding area. What do you think about using switchgrass or the northwoods whitetail HD screening.
The switchgrass would be perfect...especially surrounding the plot and in small patches within the inside! Make sure to check out our switchgrass seed: www.whitetailhabitatsolutions.com/product-category/seed
Hi Ray you can use Quincloric and we will have a full video about maintaining switchgrass coming out about that soon...keep an eye out for it! We will discuss the amounts there too.
I’m going to cheat and ask two questions today lol I know you guys are so busy so I don’t expect responses but I’m gonna ask anyways lol when do you expect deer to start leaving your property in the spring?
Jeff: How are you putting switchgrass in if not frost seeding? I seen where you are spraying more and add seed later. I don’t have access to a drill. What should I do?
I'm on five acres with my home in the middle lol yea supper hard hunt. I have deer but mostly in the evening hours. I do have a 1/4 food plot. I'm looking for something to plant around it for cover and maybe just screening from the house. I'm in SC what would you recommend
Hope to get an answer, so would you say it's a bad idea to "feather" "hinge" my wood edge? It's mostly junk brushy stuff, but when foliage is off, the deer can see from 40yds + in Would i be doing counter productive work?
I think you will see big benefits from feathering these edges, I did this on 2 side of a field and it has definitely fixed the issue of being able to see 200+yds into the woods. Don't hinge cut every tree though (here or in any case).
Hey! Need some guidance. I planted winter rye heavy in a 2 acre plot that is hard to access (Can’t till). It grew well but the deer didn’t hardly touch it. Is there another crop I can sew without tilling that will actually grow. I can spray, just can’t get equipment in there to plow. Thanks in advance.
I really appreciate your monthly chores video. They keep me on track. Thank you
That's great to hear Clay I will do my best to keep them coming!

Getting in as much chainsaw work as possible during this warm weather. Crazy to be working in the woods with just a t-shirt on in January.

I have about a dozen old pallets stacked up . Great idea to offer some rabbit habitat. Wonderful project for me and the kiddos this month. Thanks 👍
That's awesome...a lot of fun too!
Amazing amount I can get done in couple hours on woods. Thanks for the great info
It sure is!! Just a little bit chipped away consistently for the year turns into a LOT of work accomplished!!
The only CHORES I look forward to doing.

Thanks for this Jeff. Starting this right after the seasons ends in Wisconsin.
You are very welcome Mike!
I'm a relatively new land owner and yes there's tons to do year round
Thanks for the upload!

We might have to do that!we have many times...but not in entirety...or in definitive terms
I’m going to try overseeing red clover in March/April into my brassicas ahead of the oats/rye in August/September.

I would love to see you do a video on a parcel that is heavy dense cover. I am making food plots obviously but the whole 120 acres is very thick.

There is a video out there I believe him setting up 65 acres with a cabin in the middle.
Can't wait to get back too it, after our Ohio late season muzzeloader. Hopefully take out a few doe this weekend.
Started cutting last weekend. Knee deep snow has slowed my plans.
It has slowed mine too! Good job on starting so early too 😊

Sturgis catch phrase.
“Bottom line.. deer down”
We need a “Bottom line” blend for 2024.
WHS is the best “Bottom line”!!!
Haha, I love it! Maybe...😁
Hey Jeff! Happy New Year! What do you recommend sowing into a trail to keep it from eroding when the trail is under the canopy?

Started yesterday!
I just had some new paths cut at my farm in NC. What can I plant to help the deer and to keep the weeds from taking over ?

Doing tons this yr
What would you recommend, if anything, for supplemental feeding from a feeder? I do not want to induce acidosis.
Hey Fellas! When you excavated a new trail, what did you seed that with? And why? Thank you

Jeff I frost seeded switch grass last year but ended up with a lot of foxtail. Beside cut is there another way to get rid of the foxtail?

We sure are! We are likely shooting another one today...
My radishes grew great but didnt get hit til December... now that deer have tasted them do you think they'll hit em sooner next year ?

If I have ash trees that will be dead due to ash borer most are already, do I just cut them down?
Definitely cut them completely down Eric! They often have life left in them and will produce sprouts that last for many years!
Jeff! I noticed on your instagram you are starting to use the tactacam reveal? First season using them and they put perform my $300 dollar cams 😮

Same here in WNY... broadcasting clover this year

Frost seed clover in February March. Works great on my farm!
Just waiting for the ground to firm up again. It's mud soup out then again.
